SOSA commercial scenting
A new building has no memory attached to it yet - which is the opportunity, and the trap
◆ ◆ ◆
What we answer
"Sales gallery opening while construction continues on the same site."
Dust, paint and new-material odour come first. Fragrance over curing paint is a cover-up
Construction phase
What we specify
"Double-height experience centre with a full glass facade facing west."
Height and afternoon solar gain both change the job; measure volume, not floor plate
New-build volume
What we answer
"Developer asks whether scenting should be in the HVAC drawings."
If the building will be scented at all, yes - retrofitting around a finished ceiling is the expensive route
Design stage
What we specify
"Sales gallery and the sample apartment next door."
Different jobs. The gallery is a brand space; the sample flat should smell like a home, or like nothing
Two spaces
What we specify
"New brand with no existing customer memory to build on."
Then consistency from day one matters more than distinctiveness - pick something you can hold for years
New identity
What we specify
"Developer with several projects wanting one recognisable scent."
One fragrance, output set per building - and commit before the first project opens, not the third

Height multiplies the volume you have to fill. Glass adds a thermal load that moves through the day. Together they change three things: how much capacity you need, how high the machine should sit, and where it cannot go.
Quick answers — read this first
How do high ceilings change scent-machine requirements? They multiply the air volume, so capacity must be sized in cubic metres rather than from floor area, and they stratify the air so warm scented air collects near the roof. A SOSA Vaayu covers up to 1000m³; a double-height space reaches that with far less floor area.

What does a large glass facade add? A thermal load that moves through the day. Solar gain heats the air behind the glass, driving convection currents that change direction and strength between morning and late afternoon, so a level set at one time of day behaves differently at another.

What does this mean at design stage? Size by volume, plan a mounting height that serves the occupied zone, keep the machine away from the glazed zone and out of the supply airstream, and consider HVAC-carried scenting - an Aangan at ₹25,999 - where the envelope makes standalone placement difficult.
The short answer
Short answer: Height multiplies volume and stratifies air; glass adds a moving thermal load. Size by cubic metres, mount low, and keep away from the glazed zone.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 for a contained gallery or reception, the Aangan at ₹25,999 where scenting rides the building's own HVAC, on Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299.

How SOSA sizes a commercial space - the order that actually worksStep 1 - find the source: solvents, sanitiser, footwear, drains, AC filters, stale airStep 2 - draw the air volume, not the floor plan: doors and partitions divide itStep 3 - decide which zones stay unscented, and write that downStep 4 - set intensity low and schedule it around your peakStep 5 - re-check after two weeks, then leave it alone
Commercial scenting goes wrong in a predictable order: somebody buys a machine to cover a smell that has a source, puts it where the socket is, runs it at full intensity because day one felt weak, and ends up with a room people comment on for the wrong reason. Source first, air volume second, unscented zones written down third, low intensity and a schedule fourth. This guide walks that sequence, with the real SOSA machine range at each size.
Straight answer
How do high ceilings and large glass facades change scent-machine requirements?
Three consequences, and all of them are design-stage decisions. One: capacity. Coverage is a volume figure, so a double-height space reaches 1000m³ with roughly half the floor area of a standard-height one. Quoting from square feet under-specifies a new-build envelope every time, and new commercial architecture in the Amaravati belt is generous with height. Measure length by width by ceiling height and size against that: a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 to 1000m³, an Aangan at ₹25,999 beyond it. Two: stratification. Warm air rises and forms a stable layer near the roof that mixes slowly with the air below, so fragrance delivered high stays high, several metres above anybody. Mount to serve the occupied zone, not the ceiling void - a machine placed neatly at high level is a common and expensive error in tall buildings. Three: the glazed facade, which is a moving target. Solar gain heats the air behind a large glass frontage, and in a west-facing elevation that peaks through the afternoon exactly when a gallery or showroom is busiest. The convection it drives changes strength and direction through the day, which means a level set at ten in the morning behaves differently at four. Keep the machine away from the glazed zone, shade the glass where the design allows, and expect some variation rather than promising uniformity. Where the envelope makes standalone placement difficult, scenting through the HVAC is the cleaner answer - a mechanical-drawings decision, taken at design stage. Fragrance from ₹299. Fragrance is an ambience decision and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: size in cubic metres, mount for people not ceilings, keep away from the glass - and consider HVAC-carried scenting.
In a tall glazed building the choice is usually between a Vaayu at ₹11,999 and an Aangan at ₹25,999 on the HVAC, and ceiling height decides it. Send the section drawing rather than the floor plan and we will size it properly.

Two features, three consequences

New commercial buildings are the easiest to specify correctly and the easiest to get wrong, because the drawings are available and nobody looks at the section.

Why this works
Specifying a tall, glazed envelope
1 Size from the section, not the plan - volume in cubic metres, including height 2 Plan mounting height to serve the occupied zone rather than the roof space 3 Keep the machine away from the glazed zone and out of the supply airstream 4 Consider HVAC-carried scenting where standalone placement is difficult
For a new gallery the usual specification is a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, or an Aangan at ₹25,999 where it is designed into the HVAC at fit-out stage. Fragrance from ₹299 - introduced once the building has finished off-gassing.
01
Capacity
The section drawing, not the floor plan
A 3,000 sq ft gallery at standard height and the same footprint under a double-height roof are two different jobs, and only one number distinguishes them. Ask for the section drawing; it takes a minute and it prevents the most common specification error in new commercial buildings. Generous ceiling heights are a defining feature of current commercial architecture in the region, which means floor-area-based quoting is wrong more often here than almost anywhere.
Tip: Ask for the section. The plan will mislead you.
02
Stratification
Neat mounting is usually wrong mounting
In a tall space, warm air forms a layer near the roof that exchanges slowly with the air below. Anything introduced into it stays there, which means a machine mounted high delivers fragrance into a zone nobody occupies - while looking tidy and being out of reach, which is why it keeps happening. Mount to serve the breathing zone and use the air-conditioning throw to distribute horizontally rather than letting buoyancy carry everything upward.
03
The glass
A thermal load that moves through the day
A large glazed facade is not a static condition. Solar gain builds through the day, peaks on a west-facing elevation in the late afternoon, and drives convection that changes both strength and direction - which is why a level that seemed right in the morning can read differently when the gallery is busiest. Shade the glass where the design permits, keep the machine out of the zone behind it, and specify honestly that some variation is inherent rather than promising a uniform level the building will not deliver.
Tip: A west-facing glass wall peaks exactly when you are busiest.
The SOSA principle
The single most useful drawing for specifying a new building is the one nobody sends: the section.
Floor plans hide the half of the calculation that matters most.

Specifying for a new-build envelope

None of this changes the register - it changes capacity, mounting and placement, which is where new-build specifications go wrong.

The SOSA scent edit
For a tall, glazed new-build
Scent Why it suits the mood
Capacity Sized in cubic metres from the section - floor area under-specifies every time
Mounting height Serving the occupied zone; high mounting delivers into the roof layer
The glazed zone Keep the machine out of it, and shade the glass where the design allows
HVAC-carried The cleaner answer where the envelope makes standalone placement awkward

The showroom version of the stratification problem is in the high ceilings chapter, the HVAC-integration decision is in the HVAC planning chapter, and the broader design-stage provisions are in the new premises chapter.

The SOSA commercial range

Whatever the space, the method is the same: find the source of any smell and fix it, draw the air volume rather than the floor plan, write down which zones stay unscented, then set a low intensity and a schedule. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the range by the size of space it is honestly built for.

SOSA Aangan Large premises, or scenting carried on the building's own HVAC HVAC-mount nebulising machine, 800ml, roughly 8,000 to 10,000 sq ft, under 42 dB ₹25,999
SOSA Meenar Hotels, large showrooms, venues, corporate floors The largest machine in the range, specified for roughly 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft ₹38,500
Hotel Collection fragrance The fragrance the machines actually run on Seven scents, 15ml / 100ml / 300ml. SOSA's own interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand from ₹299
Honest notes for new commercial spaces: fragrance is an ambience decision only and is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. Construction dust, curing paint, adhesives and new-material off-gassing are resolved by ventilation and time, not by fragrance - introducing a scent over them masks a condition rather than finishing it, and visitors generally recognise the difference. Ceiling height and glazing change the air volume and the thermal behaviour of a new building substantially, so sizing is done from drawings and measurements rather than floor area. SOSA makes no claim that scenting influences sales or enquiry conversion. Ultrasonic diffusers and the machines run on the Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil, and the two are not interchangeable. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. SOSA's fragrances are made in India; the scent machines are imported. Listed prices are store prices and are subject to change. SOSA's paid on-site walkthrough is ₹1,500 and is Pune only - everywhere else, including Vijayawada, Guntur and the Amaravati region, sizing is done remotely over WhatsApp from your own measurements. A note from Sonal

New buildings are the only case where I tell people to think about scent before the fit-out rather than after, and it is a practical point rather than a romantic one: if a building is going to be scented at all, that belongs in the HVAC conversation while the ceiling is still open. Retrofitting around finished plaster is how a simple decision becomes an expensive one.

But there is a trap in new construction, and it is the one I see most in fast-building regions. A new space smells of itself - curing paint, adhesives, new textiles, site dust drifting in. Putting fragrance on top of that is not scenting, it is masking, and visitors read it accurately. Let the building finish off-gassing, ventilate properly, then introduce a scent you intend to keep.

Fragrance is an ambience decision and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. Frequently asked questions

How do high ceilings change machine requirements?
They multiply the air volume, so capacity must be sized in cubic metres rather than from floor area, and they stratify the air so fragrance delivered high stays above the occupied zone.
What does a large glass facade add?
A thermal load that moves through the day. Solar gain drives convection that changes strength and direction, so a level set in the morning behaves differently in the late afternoon.
Where should the machine go?
At a height that serves the occupied zone, away from the glazed area and out of the supply airstream, using the air-conditioning throw to distribute horizontally.
What should I send for a proper size?
The section drawing rather than the floor plan, plus glazing orientation and the air-conditioning layout. Height is half the calculation.
When is HVAC-carried scenting better?
Where the envelope makes standalone placement awkward, or where several areas share air handling. An Aangan at Rs 25,999 mounts to the system. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Facts verified September 2026: Fragrance is an ambience decision only and is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. In new construction, dust, curing paint, adhesives and new-material off-gassing are addressed by ventilation and time; ambient fragrance introduced over them masks a condition rather than resolving it. Ceiling height and glazing materially change a building's air volume and thermal behaviour, so sizing is carried out from drawings and site measurements rather than floor area.
