If the building will ever be scented, yes - because the choice between a machine in the room and a machine on the ductwork only exists while the drawings are open, and it is the better option that disappears.
Quick answers — read this first
Should scenting be in the HVAC planning stage? If the building may ever be scented, yes. Duct-mounted scenting distributes on the building's own airflow and is more even than standalone units, but it has to be designed in - retrofitting into a finished ceiling is disruptive and often impractical.

What does the mechanical consultant need to know? Which zones are to be scented, that a duct-mounted unit needs a mounting point, power and service access, its dimensions and noise rating, and that scented and unscented zones must not share a supply. An Aangan at ₹25,999 is the duct-mounted option.

What if the decision has not been made yet? Provision anyway. A mounting point, a power supply and access in the ceiling cost very little at design stage and nothing if unused, and they preserve an option that is otherwise lost when the ceiling closes.
The short answer
Short answer: Yes, if it may ever be scented. Duct-mounted scenting must be designed in; provisioning costs little and preserves an option you otherwise lose.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 for a contained gallery or reception, the Aangan at ₹25,999 where scenting rides the building's own HVAC, on Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299.
Sizing? WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your drawings, ceiling heights, glazing, HVAC design and opening date - remote sizing from your own measurements, no site visit needed outside Pune.
How SOSA sizes a commercial space - the order that actually worksStep 1 - find the source: solvents, sanitiser, footwear, drains, AC filters, stale airStep 2 - draw the air volume, not the floor plan: doors and partitions divide itStep 3 - decide which zones stay unscented, and write that downStep 4 - set intensity low and schedule it around your peakStep 5 - re-check after two weeks, then leave it alone
Commercial scenting goes wrong in a predictable order: somebody buys a machine to cover a smell that has a source, puts it where the socket is, runs it at full intensity because day one felt weak, and ends up with a room people comment on for the wrong reason. Source first, air volume second, unscented zones written down third, low intensity and a schedule fourth. This guide walks that sequence, with the real SOSA machine range at each size.
Straight answer
Should commercial scenting be included in the HVAC planning stage of a new experience centre?
Yes, whenever scenting is a possibility rather than a certainty - because the option you lose by not planning is the better one. There are two ways to scent a building. A standalone machine in the room, which works well in a contained space and can be added at any time. Or a duct-mounted unit that introduces scent into the supply air and lets the building's own distribution carry it - which produces a markedly more even result across several areas, needs one setting rather than four, and cannot sensibly be retrofitted once the ceiling is closed. What the mechanical consultant needs from you is short: which zones are intended to be scented and which must not be; a mounting point on the supply side with power and service access for refilling; the unit's dimensions and noise rating - an Aangan at ₹25,999 runs under 42 dB; and the critical zoning requirement that scented and unscented areas must not share a supply, which is a drawing decision, not an operational one. If the decision has not been made, provision anyway. A mounting position, a power supply and ceiling access cost very little while services are exposed and nothing at all if never used. What should not be decided now is the fragrance itself, which waits until the building has finished off-gassing - that is an operational decision months after handover. And a standalone SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 remains perfectly correct for a single contained gallery; HVAC integration matters where several areas need one consistent level. Fragrance from ₹299. Fragrance is an ambience decision and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: provision it now even if undecided - duct-mounted scenting is the better option and the only one that expires.
The duct-mounted option is an Aangan at ₹25,999, and it belongs on the mechanical drawings. A standalone Vaayu at ₹11,999 can be added any time, which is exactly why the duct option is the one to protect now.

The choice that only exists before the ceiling closes

This is a sequencing question rather than a product question, and the sequencing is unusually unforgiving.

Why this works
What to put on the drawings
1 Which zones are to be scented, and which must never be 2 A mounting point on the supply side, with power and service access 3 Unit dimensions and noise rating for the ceiling void 4 Zoning: scented and unscented areas must not share a supply
For a new gallery the usual specification is a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, or an Aangan at ₹25,999 where it is designed into the HVAC at fit-out stage. Fragrance from ₹299 - introduced once the building has finished off-gassing.
01
Why the option expires
One choice survives, the other does not
A standalone machine can be bought and plugged in at any point in a building's life. A duct-mounted unit needs a position, a power supply, access and a zoning arrangement that all have to exist in the ceiling - and once that ceiling is plastered and the finishes are in, adding them is disruptive, expensive and sometimes not worth doing. So the asymmetry is total: not planning costs you the better option, while planning costs almost nothing and loses you nothing.
Tip: Not planning costs you the better option. Planning costs a socket.
02
The zoning requirement
Scented and unscented cannot share a supply
This is the item most often missed and the one that is impossible to fix later. If an area you intend to keep fragrance-free is served by the same supply as a scented zone, it will not stay fragrance-free, and no operational measure changes that. In an experience centre this usually means separating any staff-only zone, quiet room or accessible waiting area at the drawing stage - which a mechanical consultant will do without difficulty if told, and cannot do at all if told afterwards.
03
What still waits
The fragrance, not the ductwork
Provisioning for scenting does not mean scenting. The fragrance itself should not be introduced until the building has finished releasing paint, adhesive, joinery and carpet odours, which is months after the mechanical drawings are signed off. Keeping those two decisions separate is what lets a developer protect the option at design stage without committing to a register before anybody has stood in the finished room. Provision now; choose the fragrance later; switch it on later still.
Tip: Provision now, choose later, switch on later still.
The SOSA principle
One of these two options can be added at any time. The other disappears the day the ceiling closes.
Which is the entire argument for putting it on the drawings now.

What the mechanical consultant needs to know

The register decision belongs months later, and nothing about the mechanical provision constrains it.

The SOSA scent edit
Standalone or duct-mounted
Scent Why it suits the mood
Standalone A machine in the room - right for one contained gallery, addable at any time
Duct-mounted More even across several areas, one setting to govern - must be designed in
On the drawings Mounting point, power, service access, dimensions, noise rating, zoning
Not yet decided Provision anyway - it costs little now and nothing if never used

The envelope factors that often push a building toward duct-mounted scenting are in the ceilings and glazing chapter, the wider design-stage checklist is in the new premises chapter, and why the fragrance itself waits is in the construction odour chapter.

The SOSA commercial range

Whatever the space, the method is the same: find the source of any smell and fix it, draw the air volume rather than the floor plan, write down which zones stay unscented, then set a low intensity and a schedule. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the range by the size of space it is honestly built for.

The SOSA commercial range

SOSA Aangan Large premises, or scenting carried on the building's own HVAC HVAC-mount nebulising machine, 800ml, roughly 8,000 to 10,000 sq ft, under 42 dB ₹25,999
SOSA Meenar Hotels, large showrooms, venues, corporate floors The largest machine in the range, specified for roughly 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft ₹38,500
Hotel Collection fragrance The fragrance the machines actually run on Seven scents, 15ml / 100ml / 300ml. SOSA's own interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand from ₹299
Honest notes for new commercial spaces: fragrance is an ambience decision only and is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. Construction dust, curing paint, adhesives and new-material off-gassing are resolved by ventilation and time, not by fragrance - introducing a scent over them masks a condition rather than finishing it, and visitors generally recognise the difference. Ceiling height and glazing change the air volume and the thermal behaviour of a new building substantially, so sizing is done from drawings and measurements rather than floor area. SOSA makes no claim that scenting influences sales or enquiry conversion. Ultrasonic diffusers and the machines run on the Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil, and the two are not interchangeable. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. SOSA's fragrances are made in India; the scent machines are imported. Listed prices are store prices and are subject to change. SOSA's paid on-site walkthrough is ₹1,500 and is Pune only - everywhere else, including Vijayawada, Guntur and the Amaravati region, sizing is done remotely over WhatsApp from your own measurements. A note from Sonal

New buildings are the only case where I tell people to think about scent before the fit-out rather than after, and it is a practical point rather than a romantic one: if a building is going to be scented at all, that belongs in the HVAC conversation while the ceiling is still open. Retrofitting around finished plaster is how a simple decision becomes an expensive one.

But there is a trap in new construction, and it is the one I see most in fast-building regions. A new space smells of itself - curing paint, adhesives, new textiles, site dust drifting in. Putting fragrance on top of that is not scenting, it is masking, and visitors read it accurately. Let the building finish off-gassing, ventilate properly, then introduce a scent you intend to keep.

Fragrance is an ambience decision and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. Frequently asked questions

Should scenting be in the HVAC planning stage?
If the building may ever be scented, yes. Duct-mounted scenting distributes more evenly and needs one setting, but it must be designed in and cannot sensibly be retrofitted.
What does the mechanical consultant need?
Which zones are to be scented and which must not be, a mounting point with power and service access, the unit's dimensions and noise rating, and separation of supplies between scented and unscented zones.
What if the decision is not made yet?
Provision anyway. A mounting position, power supply and ceiling access cost very little while services are exposed and nothing at all if never used.
What is the item most often missed?
That scented and unscented areas must not share a supply. If a fragrance-free zone is on the same supply as a scented one, it will not stay fragrance-free.
Does this mean choosing the fragrance now?
No. The fragrance waits until the building has finished off-gassing, months after the drawings are signed. Provision now, choose later, switch on later still. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Facts verified September 2026: Fragrance is an ambience decision only and is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. In new construction, dust, curing paint, adhesives and new-material off-gassing are addressed by ventilation and time; ambient fragrance introduced over them masks a condition rather than resolving it.
