The machine wins on: coverage across an open floor plate, control — a schedule means it is not running at 2am into an empty office — consistency of level as weeks pass, and cost per year once you need four or five points of fragrance.
The arithmetic: a 1,500 sq ft office needs four to six reed bottles at ₹749–₹849, replaced every few months. Three rounds a year approaches or exceeds a Vaayu at ₹11,999, and repeats annually.
The rule: under 700 sq ft and cellular, reeds. Over 1,200 sq ft or open-plan, the machine. Between the two, count your shut doors.
2. Under about 700 square feet, buy reeds and stop reading. Two or three bottles at ₹749 to ₹849 covers a small office properly, needs no socket, no schedule and no decisions, and the establishment time that rules a reed out of a viewing tomorrow is irrelevant in a room you occupy every day.
3. Over about 1,200 square feet with an open floor, buy the machine. A Vaayu at ₹11,999 covers up to 1000 m³ from one point and holds a level across it, which no passive product does. This is the round reeds lose outright and it is the only one that cannot be argued.
4. Do the arithmetic before you assume reeds are the cheap option. A 1,500 square foot office wants four to six bottles. At about ₹800 each that is roughly ₹4,000 a round, and in an air-conditioned office a round lasts a few months — three rounds a year approaches the price of the machine, and repeats every year afterwards.
5. Weigh control, which is the argument reeds have no answer to. A reed cannot be switched off. It evaporates into an empty office at two on a Sunday morning exactly as it does at eleven on a Tuesday, and everything released outside your working hours is fragrance nobody met.
6. And either way, do the free work first. The pantry bin, the food geography, twenty minutes of ventilation and the air-conditioning filters decide more about how your office smells than the choice this page is about.

Why this comparison is closer than the others
Everywhere else in this cluster I have been fairly hard on passive diffusion, and the reason was always the same one: a property viewing is an event with a deadline, and a product that needs one to three days to reach its level cannot serve an appointment on Saturday. An office removes that objection completely. There is no deadline, nobody is arriving at a fixed hour to judge the space, and the room will still be there next week — which turns a reed's worst specification into a non-issue and leaves it competing on the things it is genuinely good at. It is worth being honest about that rather than running the same argument in a setting where it no longer applies.
Eleven rounds, scored honestly
The comparison scored round by round for a permanent office rather than for a viewing, which is the setting that makes it close. Reeds take five of the eleven outright and share a sixth. I have marked each winner rather than summarising, because which rounds matter depends entirely on your floor plan.
| The round | Reed diffusers · from ₹749 | SOSA Vaayu · ₹11,999 | Winner |
|---|---|---|---|
| Open floor plate ★ | A point source with no energy behind it. On a 700 sq ft plate it scents the console | Up to 1000 m³ from one position, which is most brokerage offices in one machine | Machine, decisively |
| Control and hours | Cannot be switched off. Runs into an empty office at 2am at the same rate as at 11am | 1h/4h/8h/24h schedules through the app. Office hours scented, nothing else | Machine |
| Consistency over months | Output falls as the bottle empties and rises when the room warms; the drift goes unnoticed | A set intensity produces the same room in month nine as in week one | Machine |
| Cost at 1,500 sq ft | Four to six bottles a round at ₹749–₹849; three rounds a year is around ₹12,000, repeating | ₹11,999 once, then oil and about ₹250 of electricity a year | Machine, from year two |
| Cost at 600 sq ft | Two bottles, about ₹1,600 a round — and the space is genuinely covered | ₹11,999 for coverage you do not need at this size | Reeds, clearly |
| Electricity and cabling | None. No socket, no cable along a skirting board, no extension behind a console | 5W and a DC adaptor, so it needs a socket within reach of where it should stand | Reeds |
| Setting up | Open the bottle, put the sticks in, walk away. 24–72 hours to establish, which does not matter here | Fill, place, pair the app, set a schedule and an intensity | Reeds |
| Maintenance | Turn the sticks over every week or two while somebody wipes the console | Refill the 400ml tank a handful of times a year; wipe it down; nothing else | Reeds, narrowly |
| Noise | Silent, with no moving part at all | Under 38 dB, which is inaudible in a working office but not literally nothing | Reeds |
| How it looks | Glass and reeds on a console reads as furniture rather than as equipment | A neat 165 × 80.5 × 215 mm unit, but a device nonetheless | Reeds |
| Tampering and safety | A bottle of liquid on an open console, within reach of a waiting visitor | Key-lock and auto-stop, so nothing can be turned up or knocked over into a plug point | Machine |

The arithmetic, and the rule by office size
So here is the rule, stated by size and layout rather than as a preference, and it is the part of this page worth keeping. Under about 700 square feet, with rooms rather than a plate: buy reeds. Two or three bottles, at the reception console and in the waiting corner, and nothing plugged in anywhere. Between about 700 and 1,200 square feet: count your doors — if the space is cellular, reeds still work and you will need three or four; if it is open, a Sukoon at ₹1,899 in the reception is the honest middle answer and it arrives with three 15ml Hotel Collection scents. Above about 1,200 square feet, or any office with a genuine open floor plate: the Vaayu at ₹11,999, because that is the round no passive product wins. There is one clean exception that overrides all of it: if you also intend to scent property viewings, buy the machine whatever the size of your office, because a 0.9 kg waterless unit that travels turns a single purchase into something that serves your listings as well — and a reed cannot do that at all, since it needs one to three days to establish and a viewing is an appointment.
Then the practical detail on each, which is where most of the disappointment in this category comes from. On reeds: use more sticks in a larger room and fewer in a small one, that is the only intensity control you have; flip them every week or two rather than every day; keep the bottle out of direct sun and away from the throw of an air-conditioning vent, which will empty it in half the time; and place them at the height of a console rather than on a low table, because fragrance released at knee height mostly stays there. The line is alcohol-free, which is a genuine advantage in a room where people sit all day. Do not put Hotel Collection oil into a reed — it is a water-based fragrance made for ultrasonic machines and the reed line has its own compositions. On the machine: place it at reception, waist height or above, away from a vent, set the intensity low with a fresh nose in the room, schedule it for office hours, and then leave it alone. The Vaayu is waterless, which in an office full of paper and electronics is worth more than it is in a home; the ultrasonic Sukoon, Boond and Megh are honest products in a single room but they add 30 to 50 millilitres of water an hour to the air, which is a consideration at scale.
And then the two things that override the whole comparison, because they are worth more than either product. First, the free work: a lidded pantry bin emptied every evening, a decided geography for where food is eaten, twenty minutes of real ventilation early in the day, and the air-conditioning filters washed on a calendar. Those four decide more about how your office smells than the choice this page is about, and any money spent before they are done is money spent on top of a problem. If there is damp, a drain or anything with a physical cause, that is a repair and neither a reed nor a machine should be bought to sit on it. Second, the people: your team meets whichever product you choose for something like two thousand hours a year, and reeds are not exempt from that just because they are quiet and passive — a colleague who reacts to a fragrance reacts to it whether it came out of a bottle or a nozzle. Ask first, ask again a month later, and if somebody reacts, stop. And nothing on this page suggests that either product affects a client's decision, a mandate or a fee. Both are presentation, the choice between them is a practical one about floor plans and hours, and that is the only basis on which I would want you to make it.
The SOSA edit
By office size and layout rather than by product, because that is the shape the real decision has. Find your row. The last one covers the situation that overrides everything above it.
| Your office | What to buy | Why | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 700 sq ft, cellular ★ | Two or three reed diffusers — Morning Freshness at ₹749 or Mountain Breeze at ₹849 | Reeds win here properly. No socket, no schedule, covered for under ₹3,000, and they look right | ₹749–₹2,547 |
| 700–1,200 sq ft, cellular | Three or four reeds, or 300ml refills at ₹2,399 once you know which scent you keep | Still reeds, but you are approaching the point where you are buying a machine in instalments | ₹2,247–₹3,396 |
| 700–1,200 sq ft, open | A Sukoon at ₹1,899 in reception, with three 15ml Hotel Collection scents included | The honest middle. Ultrasonic, so it adds 30–50 ml of water an hour — fine in one room | ₹1,899 |
| Above 1,200 sq ft, or any open plate | One Vaayu at reception — waterless, up to 1000 m³, app scheduling, key-lock | The round reeds cannot win. One source, one level, held across the floor and switched off at seven | ₹11,999 |
| Any size, plus a washroom or a lift lobby | One reed, kept apart from the rest | The places a machine should not reach and a bottle can. Not Evening Calm, which is a bedroom composition | ₹749 |
| Not for an office: two of the five reed scents | Fresh Brew (Coorg coffee, Kerala vanilla) reads as the pantry; Garden Bloom is too floral for a workroom | Printed rather than left for you to discover. Morning Freshness and Mountain Breeze are the two workplace bottles | ₹849 / ₹799 |
| If you also scent viewings: buy the machine | The Vaayu at 0.9 kg travels between your office and your listings | This overrides every row above. A reed needs 24–72 hours to establish, so it cannot serve an appointment | ₹11,999 |
Versailles
I sell both of these and I would rather lose the larger sale than have somebody buy ₹11,999 of machine for a 600 square foot office with four rooms in it. At that size a reed is not a compromise. It is a better object for the job: it needs nothing, it never fails, it does not have a cable, and it looks like something somebody chose rather than something somebody installed. I have been in small consultancies with one bottle on a console and a well-kept reception where the whole arrangement was correct, and suggesting a machine would have been me selling rather than answering.
What changes my answer is the floor plate and the calendar. The moment your office becomes a floor rather than a set of rooms, a passive product stops reaching the middle of it, and the moment you would need a fourth or fifth bottle you are paying for a machine every year without owning one. Add the schedule — the fact that a reed spends every night and every Sunday releasing fragrance into an empty room, which nobody thinks about and everybody pays for — and above about 1,200 square feet the case stops being close. Below that, it is close, and I would rather write the page that says so than the one that pretends otherwise.
