One fragrance across both and two different levels, with the original shop getting the quieter one, because two scents would tell your customers you now run two businesses.
Quick answers — read this first
Should a flagship and an original shop share a scent? Yes, one fragrance across both. Two scents tell customers the business has split into two, which is rarely the message a family business wants when it opens a flagship.
Should the level be the same? No. The flagship is usually a larger volume and a newer fit-out, and the original shop has long-standing customers who notice change. The original gets the quieter setting.
What if the two shops serve different customers? They usually overlap more than the owner expects, and the customers who move between them are the ones most likely to notice a difference. One fragrance handles that; two draws attention to it.
The short answer
Short answer: One fragrance, two levels. The original shop gets less.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 for a contained shop floor on Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299, introduced at the lowest setting and left there.

Commercial scenting goes wrong in a predictable order: somebody buys a machine to cover a smell that has a source, puts it where the socket is, runs it at full intensity because day one felt weak, and ends up with a room people comment on for the wrong reason. Source first, air volume second, unscented zones written down third, low intensity and a schedule fourth. This guide walks that sequence, with the real SOSA machine range at each size.
Should a new flagship and an original shop use the same scent?
One fragrance across both, at two different levels. Why one fragrance. A customer who has used the original shop for twenty years and then visits the new flagship is the most important person in this decision, and they are also the person most likely to make the comparison. If the two premises smell different, the flagship reads as a separate business rather than as the same family doing something new - and for most Ahmedabad family businesses opening a flagship, continuity is the asset being traded on. Two scents spend it. One fragrance says the same people run both. Why two levels. The flagship is usually a larger volume with a higher ceiling and a newer, tighter fit-out, so the same setting produces a different perceived result. More importantly, the original shop has customers who have been coming for decades and who notice any change, so it should receive the quieter of the two. A change nobody can date is the change that works. Introduce at the lowest setting, leave it alone, and resist the instinct to make the improvement visible. The flagship can carry slightly more because nobody has a memory of it to be disturbed, and because a new premium space is expected to feel considered. How to specify it. A Vaayu at ₹11,999 in each, both on the same fragrance from ₹299, each sized on its own air volume and each key-locked at its own written level. If the flagship is a genuinely large open floor, an Aangan at ₹25,999 may be the correct unit there while the original shop stays on the smaller machine - different equipment, same fragrance, which is exactly the right way round. What to write down. The fragrance, and a rule that it does not change in either shop. A perceived-level target for each premises rather than a shared dial number, because the same number will not mean the same thing in two different rooms. One named owner per shop. One mistake to avoid. Do not use the flagship as an excuse to introduce something more characterful, with the intention of rolling it out to the original shop later. You will either end up with two registers permanently or with a change forced on the shop least able to absorb one. Choose the register you would be content with in the original shop, and use it in both. SOSA does not recommend scenting shared employee work areas. Somebody working a nine-hour shift cannot leave a scent they dislike or react to, and nobody there chose it. SOSA makes no claim that scenting affects footfall, spend or retention. Fragrance is an ambience decision and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

One fragrance, two levels
The temptation is to treat the flagship as a fresh start, and the customers moving between the two are the reason not to.
Why this works
Specifying two premises
For a family business the specification is usually modest: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, introduced at its lowest setting and never raised. Fragrance from ₹299.
Somebody who has used the original for twenty years and visits the flagship is the person whose reading matters most. Two scents tell them the business has split, when continuity is usually the asset the flagship is trading on.
Tip: Two smells, two businesses.
02
The old shop gets less
It has memories attached
Long-standing customers notice change in the premises they have used for decades, and the flagship has no memory to disturb. The quieter setting belongs where the history is, which is the opposite of how most people specify it.
Tip: Quietest where the customers are oldest.
03
Do not pilot a new register there
It never rolls back cleanly
Introducing something more characterful in the flagship with a plan to extend it later ends in two permanent registers or a forced change in the original shop. Choose what you would accept in the old shop and use it in both.
Tip: Pick for the old shop. Apply to both.
The SOSA principle
If the two premises smell different, the flagship reads as a separate business.
Which is rarely what a family business is trying to say.

Which shop gets less
Choose for the original shop and let the flagship inherit it, because the register that suits a business with thirty years of customers will always be safe in a new room, and the reverse is not true.

The SOSA commercial range
Whatever the space, the method is the same: find the source of any smell and fix it, draw the air volume rather than the floor plan, write down which zones stay unscented, then set a low intensity and a schedule. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the range by the size of space it is honestly built for.

Honest notes for family businesses in transition: fragrance is an ambience decision only and is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. Long-serving staff spend far longer in the scented environment than any customer and should be consulted before installation, with at least one working area kept outside the scented volume. A restrained register held unchanged is what reads as upkeep; a distinctive or fashionable one reads as a change of identity. SOSA makes no claim that ambient scenting increases footfall, enquiries, conversion, retention, referrals, transaction value or customer spend, and no such claim should be made on the strength of this guide. Where association language is used it is descriptive of ordinary experience - people come to associate a place with how it feels - and is not a commercial performance claim. Ultrasonic diffusers and the machines run on the Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil, and the two are not interchangeable. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. SOSA's fragrances are made in India; the scent machines are imported. Listed prices are store prices and are subject to change. SOSA's paid on-site walkthrough is ₹1,500 and is Pune only - everywhere else, sizing is done remotely over WhatsApp from your own measurements. A note from Sonal
The generational handover is the most delicate brief I get, and the fragrance is never the difficult part. The difficult part is that the person redesigning the business and the people who made it successful want opposite things. The next generation wants the shop to feel like their decade; the customers of twenty-five years want to walk into somewhere they recognise.
Scent is unusually useful in that argument precisely because it is the one change nobody audits. New signage, new counters, new uniforms - regulars register each of those instantly, and a proportion of them experience it as loss. A restrained scent is felt rather than itemised, which is why it modernises without appearing on the list of things that are different now. Choose something the founding generation would not object to. That constraint produces a better choice, not a compromised one.
One more thing, and I say it in every one of these conversations: ask the staff. In a forty-year-old business somebody has stood behind that counter for two decades, and they will be in this air for nine hours a day. They are more exposed than any customer and they are almost never consulted. Fragrance is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531. Frequently asked questions
Should a flagship and an original shop share a scent?
Yes, one fragrance across both. Two scents tell customers the business has split into two.
Should the level be identical?
No. Size each on its own volume, and give the original shop the quieter setting.
Why does the old shop get less?
Because its customers have decades of memory of the room, and the flagship has none to disturb.
Can we trial a new register in the flagship?
Better not. It ends in two permanent registers or a forced change in the shop least able to absorb one.
Will they need the same machine?
Not necessarily. Different equipment on the same fragrance is the right way round. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Facts verified September 2026: Fragrance is an ambience decision only and is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. Staff working in a scented environment are exposed for far longer than customers and should be consulted before installation, with a working area available outside the scented volume. Fragrance preference is personal and retail floors are crowd environments, so gentle and broadly acceptable registers are recommended. SOSA makes no claim that ambient scenting increases footfall, enquiries, conversion, retention, referrals, transaction value or customer spend, and no such claim should be made on the strength of this guide.
