What we answer
"Sales gallery opening while construction continues on the same site."
Dust, paint and new-material odour come first. Fragrance over curing paint is a cover-up

What we specify
"Double-height experience centre with a full glass facade facing west."
Height and afternoon solar gain both change the job; measure volume, not floor plate
New-build volume
What we answer
"Developer asks whether scenting should be in the HVAC drawings."
If the building will be scented at all, yes - retrofitting around a finished ceiling is the expensive route

One register throughout, three different levels, and the room where the money gets discussed should carry the least of all.
Quick answers — read this first
How should a developer scent reception, model area and closing rooms? One register throughout, because visitors move between them within minutes. Reception carries the level that defines the experience, the model area sits slightly below it, and the closing room carries the least - it is where a large decision is being made and nothing should compete.

Why should the closing room be quietest? Because a buyer signing for a home is at their most deliberate and most alert, and anything noticeable in that room becomes something to think about. A small closed room also concentrates scent far more than an open gallery, so the same setting reads much stronger there.

Should the model area differ from reception? Only in level, and only if it is a separate volume. In most galleries the models sit in the same open space as reception and carry whatever reception carries - which is correct. A SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 serves that whole volume.
The short answer
Short answer: One register everywhere, levels descending from reception to models to closing room - and the closing room quietest of all.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 for a contained gallery or reception, the Aangan at ₹25,999 where scenting rides the building's own HVAC, on Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299.
Sizing? WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your drawings, ceiling heights, glazing, HVAC design and opening date - remote sizing from your own measurements, no site visit needed outside Pune.
How SOSA sizes a commercial space - the order that actually worksStep 1 - find the source: solvents, sanitiser, footwear, drains, AC filters, stale airStep 2 - draw the air volume, not the floor plan: doors and partitions divide itStep 3 - decide which zones stay unscented, and write that downStep 4 - set intensity low and schedule it around your peakStep 5 - re-check after two weeks, then leave it alone
Commercial scenting goes wrong in a predictable order: somebody buys a machine to cover a smell that has a source, puts it where the socket is, runs it at full intensity because day one felt weak, and ends up with a room people comment on for the wrong reason. Source first, air volume second, unscented zones written down third, low intensity and a schedule fourth. This guide walks that sequence, with the real SOSA machine range at each size.
Straight answer
How should a developer use scent across reception, project models and closing rooms?
One register across all three, with the level stepping down as the conversation gets more serious. Reception sets the experience, and it is usually the only room that needs a machine: a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 at a low setting for a contained gallery. The model area is normally the same air volume as reception - open-plan, with the scale models and layouts in the same space - so it carries whatever reception carries, which is correct and requires nothing extra. Where the models sit in a separate room, size it as its own volume and set it slightly below reception. The closing room is the important one, and it should carry the least. It is small, closed, occupied for an hour by two or three people, and it is where somebody commits to the largest purchase of their life. Three things follow. A small closed room concentrates scent far more than an open gallery, so an identical setting reads much stronger there. A buyer at that moment is deliberate, alert and reading the room, and anything noticeable becomes one more thing to process. And it should be possible to air the room between appointments, because back-to-back closings in a sealed room with the air conditioning working hard is how a space becomes stuffy regardless of fragrance. In practice a closing room needs either nothing or a reed diffuser at ₹749 on a far shelf, matching the gallery register rather than contrasting with it. Keep one unscented seating option in reception. Fragrance from ₹299. Fragrance is an ambience decision and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: one register, levels descending toward the closing room - which needs a reed diffuser or nothing at all.
The gallery specification is one machine and one small bottle: a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 serving reception and the model area, and a ₹749 reed or nothing in the closing room. Fragrance from ₹299, same register throughout.

One register, three levels, one room that stays quiet

The three rooms look like three opportunities and are better treated as one register applied with decreasing volume.

Why this works
Three rooms, descending levels
1 Reception: the machine, at a low setting, defining the register 2 Model area: usually the same volume, so it needs nothing of its own 3 Closing room: a reed diffuser or nothing, matching the register, never contrasting 4 Air the closing room between appointments, and keep one unscented seat in reception
For a new gallery the usual specification is a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, or an Aangan at ₹25,999 where it is designed into the HVAC at fit-out stage. Fragrance from ₹299 - introduced once the building has finished off-gassing.
01
Why one register
Visitors move between all three in an hour
A prospective buyer walks from reception to the models to a closing room and back within a single visit, sometimes twice. A change in register over that distance reads as inconsistency rather than as zoning, exactly as it would in a hotel between lobby and lift lobby. Different levels are fine and often necessary; a different scent is not. Fix the register once, then think only about how much of it each room gets.
Tip: Different levels, one fragrance, always.
02
The closing room
Small, closed, and the stakes are highest
It is the smallest room in the gallery and the one people spend the longest in, at the moment of greatest concentration. The same output that is barely noticeable across an open reception is markedly present in a room of twelve square metres with the door shut, and a buyer reviewing figures does not need a fourth thing in the room. Nothing, or a reed diffuser at ₹749 on a far shelf, is the right specification - and being able to air it between appointments matters more than what is in it.
03
The model area
Usually not a separate decision at all
In most galleries the scale models sit in the same open volume as reception, which means they are already carrying the reception register and there is nothing further to specify. Developers frequently plan a separate treatment for the model area and then discover it is one room. Where the models genuinely occupy a separate space behind doors, size it independently and set it slightly below reception, on the same fragrance. Check which you have before budgeting for a second machine.
Tip: Check whether your model area is actually a separate room.
The SOSA principle
The room where somebody commits to the largest purchase of their life should have the least going on in it.
Which makes the closing room the quietest room in the gallery, not the most impressive.

Specifying each room

The register should suit a serious, considered environment - clean and restrained rather than luxurious, because the gallery's job is credibility rather than indulgence.

The SOSA commercial range

Whatever the space, the method is the same: find the source of any smell and fix it, draw the air volume rather than the floor plan, write down which zones stay unscented, then set a low intensity and a schedule. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the range by the size of space it is honestly built for.

The SOSA commercial range
Sized by air volume, not by ambition - from a ₹749 reed diffuser to the ₹38,500 Meenar

Megh ultrasonic (6L) A larger waiting area where visible mist is wanted 6L tank, water-based. Still a room machine rather than a floor machine ₹3,499

SOSA Aangan Large premises, or scenting carried on the building's own HVAC HVAC-mount nebulising machine, 800ml, roughly 8,000 to 10,000 sq ft, under 42 dB ₹25,999
SOSA Meenar Hotels, large showrooms, venues, corporate floors The largest machine in the range, specified for roughly 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft ₹38,500
Hotel Collection fragrance The fragrance the machines actually run on Seven scents, 15ml / 100ml / 300ml. SOSA's own interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand from ₹299
Honest notes for new commercial spaces: fragrance is an ambience decision only and is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. Construction dust, curing paint, adhesives and new-material off-gassing are resolved by ventilation and time, not by fragrance - introducing a scent over them masks a condition rather than finishing it, and visitors generally recognise the difference. Ceiling height and glazing change the air volume and the thermal behaviour of a new building substantially, so sizing is done from drawings and measurements rather than floor area. SOSA makes no claim that scenting influences sales or enquiry conversion. Ultrasonic diffusers and the machines run on the Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil, and the two are not interchangeable. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. SOSA's fragrances are made in India; the scent machines are imported. Listed prices are store prices and are subject to change. SOSA's paid on-site walkthrough is ₹1,500 and is Pune only - everywhere else, including Vijayawada, Guntur and the Amaravati region, sizing is done remotely over WhatsApp from your own measurements. SOSA Sukoon ultrasonic cool mist diffuser
The small-room option Sukoon ultrasonic diffuser ₹1,899 A 500ml water-based cool-mist diffuser for a single cabin or a small desk. It adds a little humidity to the room, which is the reason it is not the choice for a monsoon-season space. See full specs →Size it on WhatsApp

A note from Sonal

New buildings are the only case where I tell people to think about scent before the fit-out rather than after, and it is a practical point rather than a romantic one: if a building is going to be scented at all, that belongs in the HVAC conversation while the ceiling is still open. Retrofitting around finished plaster is how a simple decision becomes an expensive one.

But there is a trap in new construction, and it is the one I see most in fast-building regions. A new space smells of itself - curing paint, adhesives, new textiles, site dust drifting in. Putting fragrance on top of that is not scenting, it is masking, and visitors read it accurately. Let the building finish off-gassing, ventilate properly, then introduce a scent you intend to keep.

Fragrance is an ambience decision and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. If you are building in the Amaravati belt and want scenting considered at design stage, WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your drawings and ceiling heights. Frequently asked questions

How should a developer scent reception, models and closing rooms?
One register throughout with descending levels: reception carries the machine, the model area usually shares that volume, and the closing room carries the least.
Why should the closing room be quietest?
Because it is small and closed, so the same setting reads far stronger there, and because a buyer committing to a home is at their most deliberate and does not need anything competing.
Does the model area need its own machine?
Usually not. In most galleries the models sit in the same open volume as reception and already carry its register. Check before budgeting for a second machine.
What should the closing room have?
Nothing, or a reed diffuser from Rs 749 on a far shelf matching the gallery register. Being able to air it between back-to-back appointments matters more than what is in it.
Should any area be unscented?
Keep one unscented seating option in reception. Fragrance is an ambience decision and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Facts verified September 2026: Fragrance is an ambience decision only and is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. In new construction, dust, curing paint, adhesives and new-material off-gassing are addressed by ventilation and time; ambient fragrance introduced over them masks a condition rather than resolving it.
