What we specify
"Showroom with large doors opening every two minutes in May."
Place deep, not at the door. The doorway is not a volume you can hold
Door traffic
What we answer
"Owner raising the setting because dust keeps coming in."
Dust is a filtration and cleaning problem. More fragrance makes it a smell problem too
Dust
What we specify
"Complaint that the machine is too weak, three months after install."
Check filters, cleaning and airflow first. It is usually one of those three
Diagnosis
What we specify
"Heritage layout of many small rooms off a courtyard."
Zone it. One machine cannot serve rooms that do not share air
Architecture
What we answer
"Strong AC running all summer."
Recirculating AC helps distribution; fresh-air intake works against you
Air conditioning
What we answer
"Property with damp, drainage and dust issues, plus a fragrance budget."
Spend it in that order. Fragrance is the last item, not the first

Founder Diaries · SOSA Commercial Scenting Guides
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 8 min read Updated September 2026
Three things change in a Jaipur summer and they do not all pull the same way, which is why the season produces such contradictory advice.
Quick answers — read this first
How does hot dry weather affect commercial scenting? Heat increases volatility, so the same setting reads stronger and consumes faster. Door traffic and outside air work against retention, and dust load rises. The net effect varies by premises.

Should the setting be raised in summer? Usually the opposite. Warm air carries more volatile material, so a level set in January often reads as heavy in May, and the correct adjustment is downward if anything.

What should actually change? Filter and cleaning frequency, refill checks, and door discipline. A key-locked SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 keeps the level steady while those are addressed, from ₹299.
The short answer
Short answer: Heat makes the same setting read stronger and run out faster. Adjust cleaning and door discipline, not the dial.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 for one enclosed volume up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected space, the Aangan at ₹25,999 for a large hall, on Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299. Open and semi-open areas are specified as nothing.
Sizing? WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with room volume and ceiling height, AC type and whether it brings in outside air, how often the main door opens, and when filters were last cleaned - remote sizing from your own measurements, no site visit needed outside Pune.
How SOSA sizes a commercial space - the order that actually worksStep 1 - find the source: solvents, sanitiser, footwear, drains, AC filters, stale airStep 2 - draw the air volume, not the floor plan: doors and partitions divide itStep 3 - decide which zones stay unscented, and write that downStep 4 - set intensity low and schedule it around your peakStep 5 - re-check after two weeks, then leave it alone
Commercial scenting goes wrong in a predictable order: somebody buys a machine to cover a smell that has a source, puts it where the socket is, runs it at full intensity because day one felt weak, and ends up with a room people comment on for the wrong reason. Source first, air volume second, unscented zones written down third, low intensity and a schedule fourth. This guide walks that sequence, with the real SOSA machine range at each size.
Straight answer
How does Jaipur's hot dry summer affect commercial fragrance performance?
Through three separate effects that pull in different directions, which is why summer advice in this trade is so inconsistent. First, volatility. Warm air carries more volatile material, so the same machine setting produces a stronger perceived result in May than in January and the refill empties faster. A level set comfortably in winter frequently reads as heavy in high summer, and the correct adjustment, if any, is downward. Second, air exchange. Door traffic rises in summer in most premises, and every opening replaces conditioned scented air with hot outside air, which works against retention near the entrance. That is a placement problem rather than an output one: place deep, and accept that the doorway is not a space you can hold. Third, dust. Jaipur's dry season raises the dust load carried in on clothes, feet and air, and dust in filters and on surfaces produces a dry, flat smell that owners frequently mistake for the fragrance failing. Raising the machine in response makes the room smell of dust and fragrance rather than of dust, which is worse. What should actually change in summer: filter cleaning frequency, because filters load faster in the dry months; floor and surface cleaning, for the same reason; refill checks, because consumption is genuinely higher; and door discipline, including whether a closer is working and whether an entrance is being propped open for convenience. What should not change is the level, which is why key-locking matters more in this climate than in a mild one. Specification: a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 per enclosed volume on Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299. Fragrance is an ambience decision and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning, filtration or source control. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: heat makes it stronger and faster. Change the cleaning schedule, not the setting.
Key-locked, which matters more in this climate: a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, fragrance from ₹299.

Three effects, pulling different ways

Summer produces more calls than any other season, and the diagnosis is almost never the machine.

Why this works
What changes in summer
1 Filter cleaning frequency - filters load faster in the dry months 2 Floor and surface cleaning, for the same reason 3 Refill checks, because consumption genuinely rises with temperature 4 Door discipline - closers working, entrances not propped open
The machine sized for one connected volume rather than for a floor plan: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, under 38 dB, app and timer control, key-locked. Fragrance from ₹299.
01
Warmth amplifies
The same setting is a stronger room
Higher temperatures increase the rate at which fragrance material enters the air, so a level that was judged correct in a cool month is delivering more in a hot one. Businesses that set in winter and then raise it in spring end up at a level that is genuinely uncomfortable by June - and because everybody inside has adapted, the only accurate reading comes from somebody walking in from the street.
Tip: Set in January, raised in March, unbearable in June.
02
Doors, not output
The entrance is not a room
Every door opening in summer swaps conditioned air for hot outside air, which is why fragrance seems to vanish near an entrance. This is a boundary problem, and the answer is to place the unit deep in the space and stop trying to hold the doorway. A working closer and an entrance that is not propped open do more than any setting change.
03
Dust is misread as weakness
And more fragrance makes it worse
Dry-season dust on surfaces and in filters gives a room a flat, dusty character that owners interpret as the fragrance failing. Adding output produces a room that smells of dust and fragrance, which is a worse outcome and a faster refill. Clean the filters and the surfaces, and the same setting will read correctly again.
Tip: More fragrance over dust gives you dust and fragrance.
The SOSA principle
Summer makes the same setting stronger, and everybody's instinct is to turn it up.
Which is how a room becomes unbearable by June.

What to change and what to leave

If any seasonal change is made to the register itself, lighter and drier reads better in heat than anything warm or sweet, which becomes heavy quickly at Jaipur temperatures.

The SOSA scent edit
Summer, three effects
Scent Why it suits the mood
Volatility Up - the same setting reads stronger and consumes faster
Air exchange Up at the entrance - place deep, fix door discipline
Dust load Up - clean filters and surfaces; do not add output
The setting Unchanged, or lower. Key-lock it so summer does not move it

Not sure which size? WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with room volume and ceiling height, AC type and whether it brings in outside air, how often the main door opens, and when filters were last cleaned - sizing is done remotely from your own measurements.

The air-conditioning question is in the strong AC chapter, the door-traffic problem is in the large doors chapter, and the dust argument is in the dust chapter.

The SOSA commercial range

Whatever the space, the method is the same: find the source of any smell and fix it, draw the air volume rather than the floor plan, write down which zones stay unscented, then set a low intensity and a schedule. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the range by the size of space it is honestly built for.

Honest notes on conditions: fragrance is an ambience decision only and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning, filtration or source control. Where dust, damp, drainage or ventilation faults are present, those should be corrected first and fragrance considered afterwards; increasing output to compensate is not recommended. Fragrance introduced into a semi-open or outdoor volume is carried away by air that does not stay in the space, so it is spent rather than used. This is a physical limit and not a machine limit: no output setting makes an open courtyard hold a scent. Sizing is by connected air volume including ceiling height, so rooms that do not share air require separate treatment or none. SOSA makes no claim that ambient scenting increases bookings, enquiries, conversion, retention, referrals, transaction value or guest spend, and no such claim should be made on the strength of this guide. Where memory or association language is used it is descriptive of ordinary experience - people come to associate a place with how it felt - and is not a commercial performance claim, nor a claim about mood, sleep, stress, calm or any other therapeutic effect. Ultrasonic diffusers and the machines run on the Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil, and the two are not interchangeable. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. SOSA's fragrances are made in India; the scent machines are imported. Listed prices are store prices and are subject to change. SOSA Sukoon ultrasonic cool mist diffuser

A note from Sonal

Nearly every call that starts with the machine being too weak ends somewhere else. In Jaipur it is usually one of three things: a filter nobody has cleaned since installation, a door that opens more often than anyone counted, or a room that shares air with a space nobody included in the sizing. The machine is generally doing what it was asked to do; the room was described optimistically.

Dust deserves its own paragraph because the instinct is exactly backwards. Adding fragrance to a dusty room does not make it smell clean. It makes it smell of dust and fragrance, which is worse, and it burns oil at a rate nobody enjoys. Filtration, door seals, mats and a cleaning rota first. Then the air is worth doing something with.

And the thick walls and courtyards that make Jaipur beautiful also make it awkward. Rooms that do not share air need their own machines or none at all. Fragrance is an ambience decision, never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. If something is not working, WhatsApp me on +91 96192 18531 before you spend anything. A part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How does hot weather affect commercial scenting?
Heat increases volatility, so the same setting reads stronger and consumes faster, while door traffic and dust load both rise.
Should the setting be raised in summer?
Usually the opposite. A level set in winter often reads as heavy in May, and the correct adjustment if any is downward.
Why does fragrance vanish near the entrance?
Because every door opening replaces conditioned air with hot outside air. That is a boundary problem - place the unit deep instead.
Why not add output when dust rises?
Because the room then smells of dust and fragrance rather than of dust. Clean filters and surfaces and the same setting reads correctly again.
What should change in summer?
