Honest notes before you buy anything. Coverage ratings assume connected air volume. A machine cannot push scent through a closed bedroom door, and it never will - so a partitioned villa is not one scenting problem but several, and honest sizing means saying so out loud rather than selling you one machine and hoping. Scent the volume that is genuinely open to itself, then give the closed rooms their own quiet answer, usually a reed diffuser. Fragrance never substitutes for ventilation or cleaning. If a room smells damp, stale or of last night's cooking, open it, air it and clean it first; scent added on top of that only makes a more complicated bad smell. A home is not a lobby you pass through. There is a difference between a room that smells nice and a home that has a signature, and almost nobody is told what it is. A room that smells nice is an event: you light a candle, you spray something in the hallway before people arrive, it is lovely for forty minutes and then it is gone. Somewhere else in the house a bathroom gel is doing one thing, a kitchen spray another, and a bedroom reed a third. Four pleasant smells in four rooms is not a fragranced home. It is four rooms.
A signature is the opposite. It is one scent, sized to the house, running on a schedule - so it is already in the air when someone walks through your front door, and already there at eleven at night when you come home yourself, and nobody has lifted a finger to make it happen. That is the whole trick the great hotels use, and it is not complicated: they do not chase smells room by room, they hold one fragrance across the volume people actually move through. In a villa that usually means the entrance, the living room and the dining as one connected space, with the closed rooms handled separately and quietly.

Is there a birthday or anniversary fragrance in the SOSA range?
No, and we would rather say so than invent one. What exists is seven hotel-inspired registers, and the useful question is which of them suits the room the occasion produces rather than which one carries the right label. For a birthday, which is mixed-age, often daytime and already sweet from the cake, the answer is the quiet end: the Westin-inspired white tea, aloe and cedar, which is the calmest of the seven, or the Ritz-Carlton-inspired white tea, bergamot and cedar, whose bright lift reads well alongside cake and food. For a grounded house of wood, stone and plants, the 1 Hotels-inspired cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves is the driest and greenest. For an anniversary, which is adult, evening and usually one room, the St. Regis-inspired amber, violet and woods is the register the occasion was made for, and it reads as considered after dark in a way it would not at noon. Which of the seven is the strongest?
We do not publish comparative strength, longevity or throw figures for these registers, and any page that gives you one has invented it. What is fair to describe is character: a warm amber-and-woods register such as the St. Regis-inspired one reads as more present in a room than an airy white-tea register such as the Westin-inspired one, and that is a perceptual observation rather than a measurement. What actually determines how far a fragrance carries in your house is the machine, the intensity setting and the volume of the room, which is why a page about sizing is more useful than a page ranking blends. It is also worth questioning the goal behind the question. At a birthday or an anniversary the room already contains cake, flowers, food and people, and a register loud enough to be picked out of that company is loud enough to be identified as a product. The role you want is the quiet floor everything else stands on, registered properly once, at the front door, by somebody who has just come in from outside.
Can I run one register for the birthday and a different one in another room?
It is tempting and it is the reliable way to make a house smell confused. A nose reads several unrelated pleasant smells at once as chaos rather than as richness, and the doorway between two registers is exactly where a guest notices something is off without being able to name it. At a birthday guests move constantly between the entrance, the living room and the washroom, so every gap gets walked several times. Run one register across the connected volume of entrance, living and passage, and put the reeds behind closed doors in the same family so the change at each threshold is a shade rather than a subject change. There is one sensible exception, which is discreet functional freshening in a bathroom. Everything else - the gel pot, the plug-in, the room spray under the sink, the scented candle somebody gifted last year - is best retired for the evening. And a specific reminder for these occasions: keep all of it well away from the candles on the cake.
There are a lot of flowers in the room. Does that change the register?
It can, and the flowers should win. Birthdays and anniversaries both attract flowers as gifts, so a house that normally holds one vase may hold five or six, and if any of them are lilies or tuberose you have one of the strongest smells of the year standing in the living room. Those flowers were given, they belong to the occasion, and no host should be trying to cover them. Keep the level low either way, and let the flowers be part of what the room smells like rather than something to be overwritten.
I have a Sukoon. Which fragrance do I buy, and can I use it in a Vaayu later?
