Founder Diaries · Living Room

The most common complaint I hear about a waterless diffuser is a placement problem in disguise. "It only smells near the machine" almost never means the machine is weak — it means it was put somewhere the air stands still. Give it moving air and the whole living room follows.
Quick answer
The rule: place a SOSA Vaayu where the air already moves — near an AC return, a fan's pull, or the walkway between rooms.
Height: raised off the floor on a console or sideboard, not tucked on the ground behind the sofa.
Position: roughly central or two-thirds down a long room — never shut in a dead corner.
The short version
Short answer: near airflow, raised, central — placement decides coverage far more than intensity does.
The pick: SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 — waterless, up to 1000 m³, so one well-placed unit holds a large room.
A waterless diffuser like the Vaayu works by nebulising fragrance oil into a fine, dry scent — no mist, no water, just scent molecules released into the air. That is precisely why placement matters so much. It does not throw a wet cloud a fixed distance the way a spray does; it releases scent and lets the room's own air carry it. Put it somewhere the air is still, and the scent has nothing to travel on. Put it where air is already moving, and that same air does the distribution for you, corner to corner, for free.
The three placement rules that decide coverage
01
Rule one
Put it where the air already moves
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999
The single biggest lever. Position the Vaayu near an AC return, in the path of a ceiling or pedestal fan, or by the doorway that air flows through between rooms. The moving air becomes your delivery system, sweeping one even scent across the whole space. Because the Vaayu is waterless it adds no humidity at all, so placing it beside an air-conditioner running all day is ideal — the two work together instead of fighting. This is the opposite of the instinct to hide it in a quiet corner, which is exactly where scent goes to die.
Founder tip: in a coastal, humid city, the AC-return placement is doubly smart — you get whole-room distribution and zero added moisture.
02
Rule two
Raise it off the floor
SOSA Megh 6L ₹3,499
Scent disperses far better from mid-height — a console table, sideboard or shelf around waist to chest height — than from the floor, where it pools low and gets trapped behind the sofa and curtains. Give the unit a little clear space around it so the scent can lift and travel. This holds for the water-based Megh too, if you are running a large room on a bigger tank: raised and open beats floor-level and boxed-in every time.
Founder tip: keep it away from thick fabric — a curtain or sofa back absorbs scent before it can reach the room.
03
Rule three
Sit it central, not cornered
Garden Bloom reed from ₹799
In a square room, roughly central distribution beats a corner. In a long drawing room, place the unit about two-thirds of the way down the length so the scent has room to travel in both directions rather than stalling at one end. And if you want a welcome at the door as well, add a passive reed diffuser on the entry console — a small low note that greets guests, while the Vaayu holds the main room behind it. One signature, two placements.
Founder tip: match the reed's scent to your Vaayu oil so the door and the room feel like one continuous fragrance, not two.

The Vaayu is rated to about 1000 m³, so in most homes a single, well-placed unit covers the living room — the trick is the spot, not a second machine.

The SOSA principle
A diffuser doesn't push scent across a room — the room's air does. Your only job is to place the machine where that air is already moving.
This is why turning up the intensity rarely fixes patchy coverage. A stronger release into still air just makes a stronger corner. Move it into the airflow and a low setting reaches everywhere.
One honest caveat, because it keeps the whole thing credible: placement can distribute a scent beautifully, but it cannot cover for a room that needs airing. If the living room smells stale or damp, open it up and fix the source first — a waterless diffuser crowns clean, dry, moving air; it does not replace it. Get the ventilation right, then let the airflow you already have carry one steady signature from wall to wall.
Frequently asked
Where is the best place to put a waterless diffuser in a living room?
Put it where the air already moves: near an AC return, a fan's pull or the walkway between rooms, raised off the floor on a console or sideboard, and roughly central to the space rather than shut in a corner. The
SOSA Vaayu nebulises a fine dry scent that airflow carries — give it moving air and it reaches corner to corner. Placement affects coverage more than turning the intensity up.
Should a waterless diffuser go near the AC?
Yes. Placing the Vaayu near the air-conditioner's return or in the path of its circulation lets the AC do the distribution for you, spreading one even scent across the whole room. Because the Vaayu is waterless it adds no humidity, so it works with an AC running all day rather than fighting it.
Should the diffuser be on the floor or raised up?
Raised. Scent disperses better from mid-height — a console, sideboard or shelf around waist to chest height — than from the floor, where it tends to pool low and get trapped behind furniture. Keep it off the ground and away from thick curtains or a sofa back that would absorb the scent before it travels.
Why does my diffuser only smell in one corner?
Almost always because it is in a still, enclosed corner with no airflow to carry the scent out. Move it toward the room's air movement — near a fan, an AC return or the doorway air flows through — and raise it off the floor. In a large or long room, place it around two-thirds of the way down the length so scent has room to travel both directions.
Where should I place a waterless diffuser in an open-plan living room?
Place it near the natural airflow spine of the open plan — often the passage where air moves between the living, dining and kitchen zones — and let the shared air current carry one signature across all of them. Keep it raised and central. For a very large open plan, the Vaayu is sized for up to 1000 cubic metres, so a single well-placed unit can hold the whole floor.
