The tell-tale sign of a big room scented wrong is a "good corner" and a "dead corner." Even coverage is not a matter of a stronger diffuser — it is a matter of enough output for the volume of air, placed where the air is already moving.
Quick answer
Why it's uneven: your diffuser scents only the air near it. In a large room the far end never gets there.
The fix: coverage sized to the volume — the waterless SOSA Vaayu (~1000 m³) — placed in the airflow.
Placement beats power: near a fan, AC return or doorway, held low.
The short version
Short answer: Size the system to the volume and let airflow distribute it — don't just turn a small unit up.
The pick: SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 for large / open-plan;
Megh ₹3,499 for a big-but-enclosed room.
A large living room breaks the rules that work for a small one. In a compact space, a single reed or a small diffuser fills the air easily — the volume is modest and the walls keep it contained. Double or triple the size, add a high ceiling and an open flow into the dining area, and the same little unit is suddenly trying to scent an amount of air it was never built for. What you get is a fragrant pool right around the diffuser and a far end that smells of nothing. The instinct is to buy the same thing but "stronger." That is not the fix, and it usually makes the near corner unpleasant without ever reaching the far one.
Two things decide even coverage
The first is output matched to volume. Fragrance has to be produced fast enough to fill the whole cubic-metre count of the room before it settles or is carried away. A 300ml ultrasonic simply cannot keep a large open-plan floor supplied. The second is airflow, which is the free labour that carries scent to the corners. A diffuser sitting in a still, dead corner behind the sofa will never reach the far wall no matter how high you set it. Put the same diffuser where air is already moving and the room distributes the scent for you.
The SOSA principle
Corner-to-corner is coverage plus airflow, held low — never a small unit turned up until the near corner is loud.
Size the system to the volume of air, place it where the air moves, and set it gently. The room does the spreading; you supply an even, low source.

Even the right-sized system underperforms in a dead corner. Give it moving air and it transforms. In a large Indian living room that usually means near a ceiling or pedestal fan, close to the AC return, or in the natural draught of a doorway between the living and dining zones. Keep it off the floor on a console or shelf, roughly waist-to-chest height, and out from behind heavy furniture. With the Vaayu, position it once in the airflow, schedule it low in the app, and the whole floor levels out.
Founder tip: if you run the AC, place the Vaayu near the return, not the vent — the room's own circulation then carries the scent to every corner.
"A big room doesn't need a louder diffuser. It needs enough scent, moving air, and a low hand on the dial."
Sonal Sahani · Founder, SOSA
The honest caveat for large rooms especially: more air also means more air exchange, so scent escapes faster through big windows and open flows. That is exactly why continuity matters here — a source that keeps topping up, like the scheduled Vaayu, holds the level where one burst never could. And as always, air the room and settle any sofa or cooking odour first; a large space that smells stale in patches usually has a source problem, not a fragrance shortage.
Frequently asked
How do I make a large living room smell good from corner to corner?
Match the coverage to the volume and let airflow carry the scent. A single small diffuser can only scent the air near it, so a large room ends up with a good corner and a dead corner. The waterless
SOSA Vaayu is built for this: it covers up to around 1000 cubic metres and can be placed near airflow so the scent is distributed evenly. Place it where air moves — near a fan, an AC return or a doorway — and keep the level low so it builds across the whole room.
Why does one end of my living room smell good and the other doesn't?
Because your diffuser is too small for the volume of air, so its scent only reaches the nearby zone before it thins out. Fragrance travels on air currents; without enough output and without airflow to carry it, the far end stays unscented. The fix is more coverage and better placement, not simply turning the same small unit up.
Should I use several small diffusers or one big system?
For a genuinely large or open-plan room, one properly sized system beats several small ones. Multiple small diffusers create overlapping strong pockets and still leave gaps, and they mean several tanks to refill. A single waterless
SOSA Vaayu placed in the airflow gives one even signature across the whole space with nothing to juggle.
Where should I place a diffuser in a large living room?
Where air is already moving, so the room does the distribution for you: near a ceiling or pedestal fan, close to an AC return or in the path of a doorway. Keep it off the floor on a console or shelf, and away from a dead corner behind furniture. Good placement in moving air scents a large room far more evenly than a stronger setting in a still corner.
Will a stronger diffuser fix uneven scent in a big room?
Not on its own. Turning up a unit that is too small just makes the near zone overpowering while the far end stays faint. Even coverage comes from a system sized to the room's volume plus airflow to carry the scent, held at a low, steady level rather than pushed hard.
Cover the whole room
Size it to the volume, place it in the airflow.
For a large or open-plan living room, the waterless Vaayu covers up to around 1000 m³ and, set low near moving air, holds one even signature from the sofa to the far wall — no dead corners, no juggling tanks.
