In most retail formats, placing a diffuser is an airflow question. In a jewellery showroom it is an airflow question wrapped inside a security question, a camera question, a power question and a display question, and getting the airflow right while getting any of the other four wrong is not a good outcome. This page works through the five constraints in the order a jeweller would actually apply them, then deals with the private cabins, which are a different problem entirely and should almost never get a machine of their own.
Quick answers — read this first
Where should a scent machine go in a jewellery showroom? On the staff side of the floor, out of the client sightline from any counter, clear of camera coverage, unreachable from the public side, near a live socket, and off the display line so nothing blows across open trays. In practice that puts it behind a counter run, on a back wall, on a plinth or column away from the display cabinets, or ducted into the air-conditioning system. The SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is mains powered at DC 12V and 1A, drawing about 5W, and can sit freestanding, lay flat, or be wall or HVAC mounted - which usually gives you enough options to satisfy all five constraints at once.
Should the diffuser be visible to customers in a jewellery store? No, and this matters more here than in most retail. A client at a jewellery counter is seated or standing still, looking at small objects at close range, and everything in that field of view is part of the impression - a visible plastic device on a counter reads as equipment in a room that has been designed to look like anything but. There is also the practical point that a machine within reach of the public side is a machine that can be adjusted, knocked over or interfered with. Place it where staff can reach it and clients cannot see it, and let the air do the travelling.
Should each private selling cabin have its own scent machine? No. A private cabin is a small closed volume - 120 sq ft at a 10 ft ceiling is 1,200 cubic feet, about 34 cubic metres - and a machine sized for a shop floor placed in one would overwhelm it with a client sitting a metre away. The correct answer is a reed diffuser from Rs 749, which needs no power and no schedule, or nothing at all, letting the cabin take the floor's air when the door is open. This is one of the few places in commercial scenting where the cheapest option is also the correct one.
The short answer
Short answer: Place a jewellery showroom scent machine on the staff side: out of the client sightline from any counter, not obstructing or sitting near camera coverage, not reachable from the public side, close to a live socket, and off the display line so nothing blows across open velvet-lined trays. The SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999) is mains powered at DC 12V, 1A, about 5W, and mounts freestanding, lay flat, or on a wall or HVAC duct. Private selling cabins are separate small volumes - a reed diffuser from Rs 749 or nothing, never a machine of their own. Registers from Rs 299. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for premises to ~1000m³; reeds from ₹749 for a single room; cabin systems from ₹1,899; HVAC from ₹25,999.

Every customer-facing space hosts two audiences at once: the customer who forms an opinion in a single visit, and the staff who breathe that air for eight hours. Commercial scenting serves both with one move - a single refined fragrance, held evenly from the entrance to the far end of the floor, running on a schedule nobody has to remember. Customers experience it as "this brand has itself together"; the team gets premises that smell composed from opening to close.
Where does the machine physically go in a showroom with counter runs, cameras and private cabins?
Five constraints, applied in this order, and the position is usually decided by the time you reach the fifth. 1. Not in a client's sightline at a counter. A jewellery client is stationary, at close range, looking at small objects, and everything in that field of view is part of the impression. Behind the counter run, on a back wall, on a plinth away from the display line - anywhere but on the counter. 2. Not obstructing or crowding camera coverage. Your camera positions were decided by someone who thought carefully about angles and blind spots, and a device placed on a shelf or a column can block a view or create a shadow. Show the proposed position to whoever specified the system before anything is fixed. 3. Not reachable from the public side. Anything a customer can reach is something that can be adjusted, knocked or interfered with. Staff side only. 4. A live socket. The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is mains powered - DC 12V, 1A, about 5W - so it needs a permanent point rather than an extension lead trailing across a floor that clients and staff walk. It sits freestanding, lays flat, or wall or HVAC mounts, which usually gives you the option you need. 5. Off the display line. Velvet and fabric-lined trays absorb ambient scent, so nothing should blow across open trays or into an open cabinet. Distance and a different height solve this. Then the cabins. A private selling room is a separate small closed volume of roughly 34 cubic metres - a reed diffuser from ₹749, or nothing, never a machine of its own. One register from the Hotel Collection (from ₹299) everywhere, one locked level, calibrated to the staff standing in it all day. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your floor plan. Made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Five constraints that decide the position
Three groups of constraint: what the client can see, what the security system needs, and what the display fabric cannot tolerate.
Why this works
The five placement constraints in a jewellery showroom
The commercial standard: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, app-scheduled, ~1000m³ coverage. Single rooms start on reeds from ₹749.
What a seated client can see is part of what they are buying
A jewellery transaction has an unusual physical geometry. The client is stationary at a counter, often seated, looking down at objects a few centimetres across under directed light, for anything from ten minutes to an hour. That is a long time spent with a narrow, fixed field of view, and everything inside it is being read: the counter surface, the tray, the lighting, the staff member's hands, and anything else on or behind the counter. A visible scent machine in that frame is a small but real error, in the same category as a visible extension board or a stack of order books. It is equipment in a room whose entire design brief was to look like it contains no equipment. The fix is not to hide it badly behind a display prop, which draws more attention than leaving it in the open; it is to place it somewhere it does not need hiding. A back wall behind the counter run, a plinth or column set away from the display cabinets, a low shelf on the staff side, or ducted into the air conditioning entirely - all of these put the machine outside every client sightline while leaving it entirely accessible to your team. Walk the store and sit in each client chair before you fix anything; the view from a customer stool is not the view from behind the counter, and it is the only view that matters for this decision.
Tip: a client at a counter has a narrow fixed field of view for an hour - keep the equipment out of it.
2
The security
Cameras, reach and the socket - three constraints nobody writes down
These three get skipped in every generic placement guide and every one of them can force a position change after installation, which is why they belong at the start. Cameras first: a jewellery showroom's camera layout is a considered thing, with specific coverage of every counter, the entrance, the cabinet runs and the strong room door, and the angles have been chosen to eliminate blind spots. A device placed on a shelf, a column or a high ledge can intrude into a frame or cast a shadow across one, and the person who discovers this is usually reviewing footage after an incident. Take the proposed position to whoever specified your system and get it agreed before anything is fixed or drilled. Reach second: anything on the public side of the floor is something a stranger can touch, adjust, pick up or knock over, and a scenting machine has no business being reachable by anyone but your staff. Staff side, without exception. Power third, and this is the constraint that most often decides the final answer: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is mains powered at DC 12V and 1A, drawing roughly 5W, so it needs a permanent socket rather than an extension lead run across a customer floor. It can stand freestanding, lay flat, or mount on a wall or into an HVAC duct, which is usually enough flexibility to find a point that satisfies all three - but check where your live sockets actually are before you decide where the machine should go, not afterwards.
3
The display line
Never blow across an open tray
The last constraint is specific to jewellery and follows directly from what the store is made of. Velvet, suede and fabric-lined trays, pads, cabinet linings and drawer inserts absorb and hold ambient scent in a way that marble, glass and metal do not, and those fabrics are in direct contact with stock - on the tray a client is handed and inside the cabinet where pieces sit overnight. So the rule is physical and absolute: nothing should be blowing across an open display tray, into an open cabinet, or along a counter where pieces are laid out. That means the machine is not on a counter, not beside one, and not positioned so that its output travels down the length of a counter run. Distance solves most of it, and a difference in height solves the rest - a machine at a different level from the display surfaces, several metres away, scents the room without ever directing air at the stock. The room carries the fragrance to the counter; the machine does not. The same logic argues against the instinct to put a small unit at each counter for even coverage, which produces a series of local clouds rather than one even atmosphere and puts a device in exactly the place this page says it should never be. One machine, correctly sized for the connected floor as set out in the sizing page, positioned off the display line, is both the better result and the simpler one.
Tip: the room carries the scent to the counter - the machine never points at it.
The SOSA principle
In most shops, placement is about airflow. In a jewellery showroom it is about airflow, sightlines, cameras, reach, power and fabric - and the airflow is the easiest of the six.
Staff side, out of every client sightline, agreed with whoever specified the cameras, on a permanent socket, and never pointing at an open tray.

The SOSA commercial edit
Whatever your business sells, the system logic is the same: one signature, sized to the space, scheduled so it never depends on anyone's memory. A single small room or a consultation corner can sit happily on reeds with no power at all; a customer-facing floor wants the Vaayu; a venue or a flagship wants HVAC. Every SOSA system is supported from India, and the Hotel Collection blends - SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations - run across the powered ones. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the full commercial range.

Honest notes for business owners: scenting compounds a well-run premises and rescues nothing. Ventilation, air-conditioning and cleaning come first, and fragrance never substitutes for hygiene or air quality - if the air is stale, damp or smoky, fix that at the source before any scent goes in. The people most exposed to the fragrance are not your customers but your STAFF, who work eight-hour shifts in it, which is why whisper calibration and locked settings are standard on every SOSA commercial install, and any staff sensitivity report should be treated as a recalibration signal rather than a complaint. Healthcare and wellness spaces need extra restraint: keep scenting to reception and circulation areas, never treatment rooms, and the practitioner's judgement overrides anything in this guide. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. Ultrasonic systems use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; the Vaayu and HVAC systems run waterless nebulising oil - the formats are not interchangeable. WhatsApp consult: +91 96192 18531. ISIPCA Versailles
A note from Sonal
I have walked into jewellery showrooms lit like museums, bridal boutiques with hand-embroidered walls, furniture floors styled down to the last cushion, clinics with better art than most galleries - and in almost every one of them, the air was an afterthought. Floor polish, packaging cartons, the phenyl from the morning mopping, the workshop or the loading bay drifting forward. The one thing every customer takes in before they see anything is the thing most businesses leave to chance.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles, where the world's scent-marketing perfumers learn the craft, and what I build for Indian businesses is the same architecture the global hospitality brands use, whatever you sell: one signature, sized to the space, run on a schedule - so the scent is as reliable as your lighting. A consultation corner may only need reeds; a full floor needs the Vaayu; a venue needs the HVAC systems. If you want it applied to your specific premises, message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with the type of space and its approximate size - I read those descriptions myself.
Everything is made or assembled for Indian conditions, supported from Pune - and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your brand gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Can the machine go near the entrance so customers notice it on the way in?
Near the entrance is a reasonable position; aiming for a noticeable moment at the door is not. An entrance-adjacent placement often works well because it is away from counters, usually on a wall or a plinth rather than a display surface, and frequently near a socket. What we would not design for is the burst effect, where the first three metres of the store read strongly and the rest reads of nothing, because clients experience that as a spray rather than an atmosphere and it is the most common thing a badly placed machine produces. There is also a practical caution specific to entrances: a door onto a street or a mall concourse is a constant source of air movement, and a machine sitting directly in that draught will have its output pulled straight back out. Set it back from the door rather than at it, and check the position against the camera covering the entrance before fixing anything.
Is a wall-mounted or an HVAC-mounted machine better than a freestanding one?
It depends which constraint is binding in your store. Wall mounting is usually the cleanest answer in jewellery retail because it gets the unit off every surface, out of reach from the public side, out of most sightlines, and away from the display line all at once, and it removes the risk of anything being knocked over on a floor where people move around counters. HVAC mounting is the most invisible option of all and is worth considering seriously if you already have a central system, because distribution then comes through the ducts rather than from a point in the room, which tends to produce a more even floor - though at that point the SOSA Aangan at Rs 25,999 is often the more appropriate system. Freestanding is perfectly workable when there is a suitable spot on the staff side with a socket. Send us a photograph of the candidate positions on WhatsApp and we will tell you which one we would use.
Our private cabins feel stuffy after a long appointment. Should we scent them?
Stuffiness is a ventilation problem and fragrance will not solve it - a small closed room with three or four people in it for an hour needs air movement, and adding scent to stale air produces stale scented air, which is worse. Fix the ventilation first: check that the cabin has a supply and a return rather than just a supply, leave the door open between appointments so the room clears, and if the air conditioning in there is an afterthought, that is worth addressing properly. Once the room genuinely clears between clients, a reed diffuser from Rs 749 holds a light, constant presence with no power, no noise and nothing to schedule, which is all a 34 cubic metre room needs. If the cabin is used for bridal appointments specifically, read the bridal page in this section first, because the dosing logic there is stricter still.
How far from the counters does the machine need to be?
Far enough that its output is not travelling along a counter run or across an open tray, which in most showrooms means several metres and a different height rather than a precise distance we could quote. The honest test is not a measurement, it is an observation: stand at each counter position with a tray open in front of you and see whether you can feel or smell a directed stream. If you can, the machine is either too close, at the wrong height, or pointed the wrong way. Move it, and re-check from every counter rather than just the nearest one. The other half of the test is evenness - walk from the entrance to the furthest counter and see whether the level changes noticeably. A correctly sized and placed machine gives you a floor that reads the same everywhere and directs air at nothing in particular.
Do we need to tell our insurer or security consultant about installing one?
We are not in a position to advise on your insurance or security terms, and anyone who tells you otherwise without reading your policy is guessing. What we can say is that it costs nothing to ask, and that two specific aspects are worth raising: anything that could affect camera coverage or create a blind spot, and any new fixed installation or drilling in a secured area. Most jewellers have a security consultant or an installer who already reviews changes to the shop floor, and adding a device to that review is a five-minute conversation rather than an obstacle. Do it before the machine is fixed rather than after, because the cost of moving it is a hole in a wall and an afternoon. This is also a reason wall and HVAC mounting are worth deciding early rather than late.

Facts verified August 2026: Ambient scent research consistently associates pleasant, congruent scenting with improved evaluations of a space and its service, longer dwell time and stronger brand recall at moderate effect sizes; congruence (scent matching the setting) and gentle intensity outperform strong scenting in replicated studies, and no scent effect survives poor ventilation, poor cleaning or poor indoor air quality. Olfactory memory is unusually durable: scent-linked brand memories persist and retrieve for years, which is the mechanism behind signature scents. Staff exposure is the design constraint, since employees breathe the fragrance for full shifts: whisper calibration, locked settings and sensitivity accommodations are standard practice, and healthcare and wellness settings call for extra restraint. SOSA systems: alcohol-free reed diffusers from ₹749 for single rooms with no power needed; Sukoon 500ml ultrasonic (₹1,899) and Megh 6L ultrasonic (₹3,499) run the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (from ₹299; refills from ₹999, 100ml ₹999); SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebulising machine, ~1000m³ coverage, Bluetooth app and timer; SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) and SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) are HVAC nebulising systems for approximately 8,000-10,000 and 12,000-18,000 sq ft respectively.
