Why not the passage? Because it feels central but every room off it has a closed door, so nothing reaches the bedrooms. A source there scents a corridor nobody sits in.
Why does height matter? Because air circulates through the upper part of a room, so a floor-level source in still air produces a pool around itself rather than distributing.
Not the passage, which is where almost everybody puts it
There is one correct position for a machine in a 3BHK and four common wrong ones, and the most common wrong one is worth taking first because it feels like the most logical place in the flat. The passage. In a standard 3BHK, three bedrooms and two or three bathrooms all open off a central corridor. Standing in that corridor, it genuinely looks like the hub of the home - the one place from which everything is reachable. So that is where a great many machines end up, on a console table or a shelf in the passage, in the belief that fragrance will move from there into all the rooms around it. It will not, and the reason is the same fact that governs every page we write about flats. Every one of those rooms has a door, and those doors are shut: bedrooms for privacy and for air conditioning, bathrooms permanently. A machine distributes fragrance through connected moving air, and a closed door is a hard boundary. So a unit in the passage is scenting a corridor that nobody sits in, and the rooms it was bought to serve stay exactly as they were. Worse, the corridor is usually narrow and unventilated, so it becomes noticeably strong there while the flat as a whole gains almost nothing. The right position is the hall - the room people actually occupy and, crucially, the room they walk into. That second point matters because everybody who lives in a home adapts to its background within about an hour and perceives very little of it, which means the moment of walking in from outside is the only time anybody experiences the flat properly. Placing the source in the part of the hall people enter means the level is where the value is. The second wrong place is on the floor, or tucked into a corner. Air in a room circulates predominantly through its upper portion, driven by temperature, fans and movement. A source at floor level, especially in a still corner or behind furniture, produces a pool of fragrance around itself rather than distributing through the room. The symptom is a machine that seems weak everywhere except within a metre of itself, and that symptom is very commonly misdiagnosed as insufficient capacity and treated by buying something larger. Moving the same unit to a console, side table or shelf frequently fixes it entirely, at no cost. The third wrong place is in the direct throw of an air conditioner. A split unit produces a strong directed airstream, and anything released into it is carried in one direction at speed, producing a pronounced gradient rather than an even level and depositing material on whatever soft surfaces sit downstream. Keep the source out of the stream; a metre or two to the side, or on the opposite side of the seating area, is usually enough. The fourth wrong place is near the kitchen or aimed at the dining table. Taste is very largely smell, so an ambient register at the table competes directly with food, and the better the fragrance the more damage it does. In a flat this needs more care than in a house, because the hob may be only a few metres from the sofa with no door between them. And the kitchen itself gets nothing at any time from anything: cooking smell is aerosolised oil that travels and settles into the hall's soft furnishings within seconds in a compact plan, and the answer is extraction used every single time with whatever door exists closed. Two final notes. In an apartment, the entrance source goes just inside the door rather than at the threshold, because the corridor outside is shared air you do not control. And the bedrooms and bathrooms are not a placement problem at all - they are a product problem. No amount of clever positioning gets a machine through a closed door, so each of those rooms needs its own reed diffuser at Rs 749 to Rs 849, running three to four months untouched, with bedrooms at the lightest level in the home from a source the occupant can move or cap themselves.
The right spot, and the four wrong ones
The right spot, and the four wrong ones. Right: the hall, at console or table height, in the part of the room people walk into, out of the direct throw of an air conditioner - the SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,799, or the SOSA Megh at Rs 3,499 with a 6L tank for a genuinely large open living-dining, or simply another reed diffuser if a constant level is fine. Wrong one, the passage: it looks like the hub, but every room off it has a closed door, so a unit there scents a narrow corridor nobody sits in. Wrong two, the floor or a still corner: air circulates through the upper part of a room, so a low source makes a pool around itself, which is the symptom people misdiagnose as insufficient capacity. Wrong three, an air conditioner's throw: a directed airstream carries everything one way, producing a gradient and depositing material downstream. Wrong four, near the kitchen or aimed at the dining table: taste is largely smell, and in a flat the hob may be only metres from the sofa. Not a placement problem at all, because no positioning gets a machine through a closed door: each bedroom and bathroom needs its own reed - Morning Freshness at Rs 749, Garden Bloom at Rs 799, Evening Calm at Rs 799, Fresh Brew at Rs 849, Mountain Breeze at Rs 849 - three to four months per bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml, with bedrooms at the lightest level in the home from a source the occupant can move or cap. The entrance, the highest-value position in the flat: a reed or the SOSA Boond at Rs 799, just inside the door rather than at the threshold since the corridor outside is shared air you do not control. Not a flat product: the SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999, rated to 1,000 m², roughly 10,700 square feet. Fragrance for machines: Hotel Collection at Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml, at three to six drops per tank, rinsing between scents; it is not reed diffuser oil. Never scented: the kitchen at any time, where extraction used every single time is the answer, the dining area during a meal, children's rooms, and covered balconies. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards.
| Scent | Why it suits the mood |
|---|---|
| Right · ₹1,799 | The hall, console height, where people walk in |
| Wrong: the passage | Looks central. Reaches nothing behind the doors |
| Wrong: floor or corner | Makes a pool. Mistaken for the machine being weak |
| Wrong: AC throw, or near food | A gradient, and a register competing with dinner |
The whole-3BHK method is in the whole-3BHK chapter, the count is in the 3BHK count chapter, and the head-to-head is in the Sukoon versus Vaayu chapter. Everything gathers in the BHK guide.

Versailles
Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.
And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
