Why is square footage a poor guide? Because it is a floor measurement that says nothing about doors, ceiling height, shape or airflow, and a machine serves connected air rather than floor.
What is the single most useful check? Walking the home at an ordinary hour and counting the closed doors between the living area, dining, the passage and the foot of the stairs.
Coverage is four things, and square footage is none of them
This is the whole coverage cluster in one page, and it starts from a single correction: coverage is not a floor measurement. It is four things at once, and the number everybody quotes is a poor proxy for every one of them. Component one is doors, and it is the largest. A machine distributes fragrance through connected moving air and cannot cross a closed door at any price or setting. So doors decide what is connected and what is sealed, and both halves matter. The sealed rooms give you your bottle count: every bedroom, bathroom and study behind a closed door needs its own passive source, typically three or four in a compact flat and ten to sixteen in a large villa. The connected space gives you your machine, or tells you there is not one - walk the home at an ordinary hour of an ordinary day, in the season you actually live in, and count the closed doors between the living area, dining, the passage and the foot of the stairs. Zero closed doors means one large connected volume and qualifies the Vaayu at Rs 11,999, waterless with nothing to fill or empty. One usually means a partly open plan and a Megh at Rs 3,499 with its 6L tank. Two or more means the home is compartmented in practice, and no machine qualifies at any square footage, because the physics is identical in a 1,500 square foot flat and a 5,000 square foot villa. That is the answer we give most often. Component two is volume. Coverage figures describe air, and air is three-dimensional, so the correct calculation is connected floor area multiplied by ceiling height. A twelve foot ceiling holds roughly a third more air than a nine foot one over the same area. Tall rooms add a second effect: warm fragranced air rises, so a disproportionate share of what is released migrates above head height into the part of the room nobody occupies, which means the level where people sit is lower than the room average. The right responses are a higher source - console or table height, never the floor - and more soft furnishing, not a higher dose, which mostly fills a void nobody breathes. Component three is shape. Output falls away with distance rather than levelling out, and it does not turn corners well. So a broadly square open space distributes evenly from one central point, an L-shaped plan needs two modest points placed apart with one in each limb, and a long linear space needs two or three spaced along the run. Raising a single source in an angled space thickens the pocket near it without ever reaching the far leg, because this is geometry and geometry does not respond to capacity. The second point never has to be another machine: a reed on a console at the far end costs a fraction as much and evens the space completely. Component four is airflow, and it has three parts. Ventilation: a home run with open windows and fans replaces its interior air many times an hour, so nothing accumulates - the answer is timing, building the level with the house closed in the half hour before people come home, rather than a larger machine that simply sends more of it outside. Air conditioning: a split unit's throw carries everything one way and deposits it downstream, so keep sources a metre or two to the side; and because cooled rooms are kept shut, air conditioning quietly makes a house more compartmented than its plan suggests. The stairwell: it carries a weak trace between floors in a direction that reverses with roof heat and cooling, so it can never be designed around - each occupied volume needs its own source, and one register should run throughout so that whatever the column carries in a given month, it is the same thing. Underneath all four sits the reservoir, which is the single most underrated fact in home fragrance. Fragrance does not stay suspended in air. It partitions onto porous surfaces - rugs, curtains, upholstery, cushions - which release it back slowly over hours. That slow release is what a steady background actually is. A hard minimal room stores nothing, which is why it reads strong for twenty minutes and empty when guests arrive, and the correct fix is a rug rather than a higher setting. That same intervention shortens reverberation and softens evening light, which most modern rooms need anyway. Two closing rules that hold regardless of coverage. The two highest-value positions in any home are bottles rather than machines: the entrance, because everybody indoors has adapted and perceives very little, making arrival the only moment anybody experiences the house properly; and the guest washroom, because it is the room visitors actually remember. And nothing here substitutes for extraction over the hob used every single time, since cooking smell is aerosolised oil that settles into exactly the textiles that hold your fragrance.
The complete coverage method
The complete coverage method. Doors first: count the rooms shut at an ordinary hour in the season you live in, and give each a reed diffuser - Morning Freshness at Rs 749, Garden Bloom at Rs 799, Evening Calm at Rs 799, Fresh Brew at Rs 849, Mountain Breeze at Rs 849 - three to four months per bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml, with bedrooms at the lightest level in the home from a source the occupant can move or cap. Then the connected space: zero closed doors between living, dining, passage and stair qualifies the SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 - waterless with no tank, coverage up to 1,000 m², Bluetooth app and timer control; one door suits the SOSA Megh at Rs 3,499 with a 6L tank; a modest hall suits the SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,799; and two or more doors qualifies no machine at any square footage. Volume: floor area times ceiling height, with a higher source and more soft furnishing rather than a higher dose in tall rooms, since fragrance stratifies above head height. Shape: one point for a square open space, two placed apart for an L with one in each limb, and two or three spaced along a linear run - and the extra point can simply be a reed at the far end. Airflow: in a ventilated home build the level with the house closed in the half hour before people come home rather than buying a larger machine; keep every source out of an air conditioner's direct throw; and never plan on the stairwell, which is weak and reverses with roof heat and cooling. The reservoir underneath all of it: rugs, curtains and upholstery absorb fragrance and give it back slowly, which is what a steady background actually is, so a hard minimal room needs a rug rather than a higher setting. The two highest-value positions in any home, always bottles: the entrance, with a reed or the SOSA Boond at Rs 799, and the guest washroom. Fragrance for machines: Hotel Collection at Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml - Quiet Luxury in white tea, bergamot and cedar, White Tea Serenity in white tea, aloe and cedar, Forest Suite in cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves - at three to six drops per tank, rinsing between scents. It is a water-based fragrance for ultrasonic diffusers, is not reed diffuser oil, and the two are not interchangeable. These are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. Outranking all of it: extraction over the hob used every single time, since cooking smell settles into exactly the textiles that hold your fragrance. Never scented: children's rooms, the kitchen at any time, the dining area during a meal, and covered terraces and balconies. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards.

Versailles
Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.
And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
