Should I increase the dose in a tall room? No. Extra material mostly fills the upper part of the room, which nobody occupies. Raise the source instead and add soft furnishings so the room has a reserve.
What is the practical fix? Place the source at console or table height rather than the floor, add rugs and curtains so the room can store and slowly release fragrance, and keep the dose modest.
More air, and the fragrance goes to the part you are not in
Ceiling height matters more than almost any other single variable that square footage fails to capture, and it matters in two distinct ways that are worth separating because they have different remedies. The first effect is straightforward volume. Coverage figures describe how much air a machine can serve, and air is three-dimensional. A room of a given floor area with a nine or ten foot ceiling contains a certain quantity of air; the same floor area at twelve feet contains roughly a third more; at double height it can contain twice as much. Nothing about the floor plan reveals this, which is one of the reasons two homes of identical square footage can need quite different setups. The practical implication is simply that the volume calculation should be floor area multiplied by height, and then reduced by every room whose door is normally shut, since no machine crosses a closed door. The second effect is less obvious and it is the one that actually determines what people perceive in the room. Fragranced air is warm relative to the room when it leaves a machine, and warm air rises. In a room with a standard ceiling this hardly matters, because the whole volume mixes reasonably quickly. In a tall room it matters a great deal: a disproportionate share of what is released migrates to the upper third of the space, which is precisely the part of the room nobody occupies. Everybody in the room is sitting or standing in the lower third. So the level at seated height ends up lower than the room average, and a tall room can read as under-fragranced while the machine is doing exactly what it was set to do. This produces a very predictable and very expensive mistake. The owner notices the room seems weak, so they raise the dose. Most of the increase goes straight to the ceiling void, where it does nothing for anybody, and the seated level improves only slightly. So they raise it again. Now the material is accumulating - fragrance does not stay suspended, it partitions onto surfaces and is slowly released - and the room is consuming several times what it needs while still reading as modest at head height, and the consumption is invisible because everybody living in the house has adapted within about an hour anyway. There are two correct interventions and neither is dose. The first is to raise the source. A machine or bottle at floor level in a tall room is the worst possible arrangement, because a low source in still air produces a pool around itself and then the material rises past the occupied zone. Placing it at console or table height puts the release into the part of the room where air actually circulates at human level, and in many cases this alone resolves what people had diagnosed as insufficient capacity. Keep it out of the direct throw of an air conditioner too, which will otherwise carry everything in one direction and produce a gradient rather than a level. The second intervention is material, and it is the more powerful of the two. Soft furnishings act as a reservoir: rugs, curtains, upholstery and cushions absorb fragrance and release it slowly over hours, and crucially they are located in the lower part of the room where people are. A textile-rich room therefore holds fragrance low and gives it back gradually, which is what a steady background actually is. A tall, hard, minimal room - stone floor, glazing, high ceiling, little soft furnishing - has no reservoir at all, so what is released rises and dissipates fast, and the room behaves exactly as people describe: strong for twenty minutes and gone by the time guests arrive. Adding a rug and a pair of curtains fixes the acoustics, softens the evening light and gives the room its fragrance reserve, all from one purchase. Two closing notes. In a genuinely tall room, accept that it will always read a little lighter at the same dose than a normal-ceilinged room, and treat that as correct rather than as a shortfall. And run cycles anchored to arrivals rather than continuously, because the value sits in the moment somebody walks in with an unadapted nose - a taller room takes longer to build a level, so start the cycle earlier rather than raising the output.
Raise the source, not the dose
Raise the source, not the dose. Sizing: multiply the connected floor area by the ceiling height rather than working from square footage, then subtract every room whose door is normally shut. The machine, for a genuinely open and connected volume: the SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 - waterless with no tank to fill or empty, coverage up to 1,000 m², Bluetooth app and timer control - or the SOSA Megh at Rs 3,499 with a 6L tank for a partly open plan, or the SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,799 for a compact space. Placement, which matters more in a tall room than anywhere: console or table height rather than the floor, since a low source in still air makes a pool and then the material rises past the occupied zone, and out of the direct throw of an air conditioner, which otherwise produces a gradient. The intervention that does most: soft furnishing - rugs, curtains, upholstery and cushions - which sits in the lower part of the room where people are, absorbs fragrance and releases it slowly, giving the room a reserve. A tall hard minimal room has no reserve at all, which is why it reads strong for twenty minutes and empty by the time guests arrive; a rug and a pair of curtains fix the acoustics, soften the evening light and give the room its fragrance reserve from one purchase. Timing: a taller room takes longer to build a level, so start the cycle earlier rather than raising the output, anchored to arrivals rather than run continuously. Accept that a tall room will read a little lighter at the same dose than a normal-ceilinged one, and treat that as correct rather than as a shortfall. Rooms behind closed doors, unaffected by any of this: reed diffusers from Rs 749 through to Rs 849, three to four months per bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml. Fragrance for machines: Hotel Collection at Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml, at three to six drops per tank, rinsing between scents; it is not reed diffuser oil. Never scented: children's rooms, the kitchen at any time, the dining area during a meal, and covered terraces and balconies. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards.
| Scent | Why it suits the mood |
|---|---|
| Volume | 12ft holds about a third more air than 9ft, same floor area |
| Stratification | It rises above head height, where nobody is |
| Wrong fix | More dose. Most of it fills the ceiling void |
| Right fix · from ₹749 | Console height, plus rugs and curtains as a reserve |
The extreme case is in the double-height chapter, open plans are in the open plan chapter, and air conditioning is in the air conditioning chapter. Everything gathers in the coverage guide.

Versailles
Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.
And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
