Yes, and the difference is as much about how the two rooms hold a fragrance as about which one suits them aesthetically.
Quick answers — read this first
Should marble and wood interiors use different registers? Yes. A marble-heavy room holds almost nothing, so fragrance clears quickly and the room reads cooler and brighter; a wood-and-textile room absorbs and re-releases, holding the register far longer.

What does that mean practically? Soft rooms need lower settings and are slower to correct if the register is wrong. Hard rooms need slightly more but respond quickly to a change.

Which registers suit each? Dry, clean and mineral registers sit naturally with marble and stone; warmer woody registers sit with wood and textile. A SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 runs either, from ₹299.
The short answer
Short answer: Yes. Hard rooms clear fast and need a little more; soft rooms absorb, need less, and take weeks to correct.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 for a connected living volume up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, the Aangan at ₹25,999 for a very large double-height space, SOSA reed diffusers from ₹749 for bedrooms and studies, on Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299.
Sizing? WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with room volumes including ceiling heights, which spaces are open to each other, courtyard layout, and where power points can still be added - remote sizing from your own measurements, no site visit needed outside Pune.
How SOSA sizes a commercial space - the order that actually worksStep 1 - find the source: solvents, sanitiser, footwear, drains, AC filters, stale airStep 2 - draw the air volume, not the floor plan: doors and partitions divide itStep 3 - decide which zones stay unscented, and write that downStep 4 - set intensity low and schedule it around your peakStep 5 - re-check after two weeks, then leave it alone
Commercial scenting goes wrong in a predictable order: somebody buys a machine to cover a smell that has a source, puts it where the socket is, runs it at full intensity because day one felt weak, and ends up with a room people comment on for the wrong reason. Source first, air volume second, unscented zones written down third, low intensity and a schedule fourth. This guide walks that sequence, with the real SOSA machine range at each size.
Straight answer
Should a marble interior use a different scent direction from a wood-and-textile interior?
Yes, and the practical difference is behavioural before it is aesthetic. A marble-heavy room absorbs almost nothing. Stone, glass and polished surfaces hold no fragrance, so what is in the air is only what the machine has recently released, which means the room clears quickly when the unit stops and responds quickly to any change in setting. These rooms also tend to read as cool and bright, and dry, clean, mineral registers - a light citrus, a green note, a restrained cedar - sit naturally in them, while warm sweet registers can feel oddly upholstered in a room with no upholstery. A wood-and-textile room behaves in the opposite way. Carpets, drapes, upholstery and untreated wood absorb ambient fragrance and re-release it slowly over days, so the room reaches a given perceived level at a lower machine setting, holds it long after the unit stops, and takes weeks rather than hours to clear if the register turns out to be wrong. That asymmetry is the most useful thing to know: soft rooms need less and forgive less. Set them lower than the volume calculation suggests, and trial a register for a fortnight before committing, because a mistake in a carpeted room is a long mistake. Warmer woody registers suit these rooms, which already contribute resin and dust of their own. A third case worth naming: most large Jaipur homes are mixed, with marble floors and heavy textiles, and the textiles dominate this calculation - if there are carpets and drapes, treat the room as soft. Specification: a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 per volume, reeds from ₹749 in bedrooms, on Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299. SOSA makes no therapeutic, mood or calming claim. Fragrance is an ambience decision and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: soft rooms need less and forgive less. If there are carpets, treat it as soft.
Either direction runs on the same unit: a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, fragrance from ₹299.

Hard rooms and soft rooms behave differently

Designers ask this as a style question and the more useful answer is about how the two rooms physically behave.

Why this works
Reading the room
1 Count the soft surfaces - carpet, drapes, upholstery, untreated wood 2 If they are substantial, treat it as a soft room and set lower 3 Trial any register for a fortnight in a soft room before committing 4 Match direction to materials: mineral with stone, warmer with wood
The machine specified in most large Jaipur homes for the main living volume: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, under 38 dB, app and timer control. Bedrooms take reeds from ₹749. Fragrance from ₹299.
01
Hard rooms are honest
What you release is what is there
With no absorbent surfaces, a marble room contains only recent output, so it clears within an hour of the unit stopping and responds immediately to a lower setting. That makes hard rooms easy to tune and easy to correct, and it also means they need marginally more output than a soft room of the same volume to reach the same perceived level.
Tip: A marble room forgets in an hour. A carpeted one remembers for a week.
02
Soft rooms accumulate
Lower setting, longer memory
Textiles reach a perceived level at a lower machine setting because they store and re-release, which is efficient, and they hold it for days after the unit stops, which is unforgiving. A register that turns out to be wrong in a heavily furnished room is a weeks-long problem rather than an afternoon's, so trial before committing and start lower than the calculation suggests.
03
Mixed rooms follow the soft
Carpets decide it
Most large Jaipur homes combine marble floors with substantial textiles, and the absorbent surfaces dominate the behaviour even when they cover less area. If a room has carpets, drapes and upholstered seating, treat it as a soft room regardless of the flooring - which in practice means most main living rooms are set lower than their volume alone would suggest.
Tip: Carpets decide it, even in a marble house.
The SOSA principle
A marble room forgets in an hour. A carpeted room remembers for a week.
Which is why one is easy to tune and the other has to be trialled.

Two directions, and the level difference

Whichever direction the materials point to, one register across the house keeps it coherent, with the hard and soft rooms differing in level rather than in fragrance.

The SOSA commercial range

Whatever the space, the method is the same: find the source of any smell and fix it, draw the air volume rather than the floor plan, write down which zones stay unscented, then set a low intensity and a schedule. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the range by the size of space it is honestly built for.

Honest notes for homes and interior projects: fragrance is an ambience decision only and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. Sizing is by air volume including ceiling height, not floor area, and spaces open to a courtyard or to outdoor air will not hold a scent at any setting. Fragrance introduced into a semi-open or outdoor volume is carried away by air that does not stay in the space, so it is spent rather than used. This is a physical limit and not a machine limit: no output setting makes an open courtyard hold a scent. Bedrooms and rooms used for long periods should be set lower than entrance areas, households include children, elderly family members, pets and people with fragrance sensitivity, and unscented rooms should be kept. SOSA makes no claim that ambient scenting increases bookings, enquiries, conversion, retention, referrals, transaction value or guest spend, and no such claim should be made on the strength of this guide. Where memory or association language is used it is descriptive of ordinary experience - people come to associate a place with how it felt - and is not a commercial performance claim, nor a claim about mood, sleep, stress, calm or any other therapeutic effect. Ultrasonic diffusers and the machines run on the Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil, and the two are not interchangeable. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. SOSA's fragrances are made in India; the scent machines are imported. Listed prices are store prices and are subject to change. A note from Sonal

The reason I like being called at drawing stage is unglamorous: a power point costs nothing before the plaster goes on and is a genuine nuisance afterwards. Two discreet high-level points in each room that will actually be scented, and the whole thing disappears into the house instead of sitting on a console table with a cable running down the wall.

The mistake I see most in large Jaipur homes is treating height as if it were not there. A double-height living room holds roughly twice the air of the same floor plan at normal ceiling height, so it is a bigger room in every sense that matters here, and the answer is to size for the volume rather than to turn a smaller machine up. And a courtyard house simply does not hold a scent in the courtyard, whatever anyone tells you.

The limits. Fragrance is an ambience decision, never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control, and I make no therapeutic claim of any kind. If you are specifying a home and want the volumes worked out, WhatsApp me on +91 96192 18531. A part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Should marble and wood interiors use different registers?

Which direction suits each?
Dry, clean and mineral registers sit naturally with marble and stone; warmer woody registers sit with timber and cloth, which already contribute resin and dust.
Why trial in a soft room?
Because a register that turns out wrong in a heavily furnished room takes weeks to clear rather than an afternoon.
What about mixed rooms?
The absorbent surfaces dominate. If a room has carpets, drapes and upholstery, treat it as soft regardless of the flooring.
Does this mean different fragrances per room?
No - one register across the house, with hard and soft rooms differing in level. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
