Founder Diaries · Reed Diffuser & Home Fragrance Gifting
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 9 min read Updated September 2026
Somebody gave you their guest room, their bathroom shelf, their kettle and two mornings of their own routine. That is a bigger favour than dinner, so the gift is bigger - and it also comes with an advantage almost no other gifting situation has: you have slept in the room. You know whether it is a small closed bedroom or a large one, whether the living area is open-plan, and what the house is like at seven in the morning. That is enough to size and choose properly instead of guessing.
SOSA Day and Night reed diffuser duo gift set, two 50ml bottles, Rs 1,498
SOSA Day & Night duo · two 50ml reeds in one box ₹1,498 →
The weekend gift, because a weekend is two rooms rather than one. SOSA Day & Night duo, ₹1,498 for two 50ml bottles - Morning Freshness lemon and mint with Evening Calm lavender and chamomile, those being the names on the bottles rather than any claim about effect. About 6 to 10 weeks each, no flame and nothing to plug in. Note that Evening Calm publishes no refill, while Morning Freshness does.
Quick answers — read this first
What should I give someone who hosted me for a weekend? Something a step up from a dinner gift. A reed duo set is two 50ml bottles in one box at ₹1,498 to ₹1,598 - Day & Night ₹1,498, Fresh & Grounded ₹1,548, Warmth & Bloom ₹1,598 - which covers two rooms rather than one.

Is a duo set better than one large diffuser? For a weekend host, usually yes. Two 50ml bottles handle a guest room and a hallway, or a bedroom and a living area. A single 130ml at ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 is only better when the house has one genuinely large open living and dining space and that is where it is going.

Should I give it before I leave or send it after? Either works and nothing about timing is published here, so decide on the situation rather than on a rule. What matters more is that you now know the house: choose the sizes and the two scents for rooms you have actually stood in.
The short answer
Short answer: Step up from the dinner gift. A reed duo set is two 50ml bottles in one box at Rs 1,498 to Rs 1,598, which covers a guest room and one more room. Use what you learned from staying there: a small closed guest room takes the 50ml, never the 130ml.
The pick: A Fresh & Grounded duo at ₹1,548 - Morning Freshness lemon-mint and Mountain Breeze pine, sage and cedar, which splits neatly between a bright room and a quieter one.
Why: A weekend is a larger favour than a meal, and a duo set spends more without over-sizing any single room - two 50ml bottles instead of one bottle that is too big for the space.
Sending something when somebody is having a hard time - at a glanceKeep it small - candle ₹399, attar ₹379, car scent ₹449For their home - reed diffuser ₹749, nothing to switch onSay the words yourself - no card goes in the parcelNever - a parcel instead of turning up
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
Straight answer
What is a good thank-you gift for someone who hosted you for the weekend?
Spend more than you would after dinner, and spend it on two rooms rather than on one bigger bottle. A weekend means somebody made up a bed, cleared a shelf, cooked more than they planned and lost their own routine for two days, and a single 50ml reed at ₹749 reads as thin against that. The natural step up is a duo gift set: two 50ml bottles in one box - Day & Night ₹1,498, Fresh & Grounded ₹1,548 or Warmth & Bloom ₹1,598, with 130ml pairs at ₹2,498, ₹2,548 and ₹2,598. Each bottle runs about 6 to 10 weeks with no flame, no socket and nothing to switch off. The real advantage you have is information: you have slept in that guest room, so you know whether it is a small closed bedroom that wants a 50ml or part of a big open floor that could take a 130ml, and you are not guessing the way a housewarming buyer has to. When not to buy: if you stay at this house every month, a ₹1,548 box each time turns a friendship into an account, and a single 50ml or a ₹399 candle is better. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
You slept in the room. That makes you the only gift-buyer in this category who is not guessing.
The weekend gift: a duo set at ₹1,498 to ₹1,598, two 50ml bottles in one box, sized for two rooms you have actually stood in.
Reed duo sets from ₹1,498

Why a weekend changes the size of the gift, and how to pick it

Two things separate a weekend thank-you from every other host gift: the favour was bigger, and you have information nobody else has. Work through them in that order.

1
The size of the favour
A bed and two mornings is not the same as a meal
Hosting somebody overnight costs a household more than feeding them. A bed gets made and then remade, a bathroom gets cleared, breakfast happens twice, and for two days the people who live there do their own routine around somebody else. Most guests feel this and then bring a dinner-sized gift anyway, because the dinner-sized gift is the one everybody knows how to buy.

The straightforward correction is to go up one level without going up a bottle size. A duo set at ₹1,498 to ₹1,598 is two 50ml reeds in one box, which is more gift and also more useful: two rooms handled, about 6 to 10 weeks each, rather than one room handled loudly. It is the only boxed format SOSA makes - there are no hampers and no printed cards, and SOSA encloses no note with an order, so anything you want said you say yourself.
Tip: Spend sideways rather than upwards: two 50ml bottles beat one over-sized one.
2
The information you have
You can size for a room you have actually slept in
This is the useful specific, and it is worth being concrete about what you now know. You know whether the guest room is a small closed bedroom with a door that stays shut, or a bright larger room. You know whether the living and dining area is one open space or two. You know if there is a long internal corridor with no window, and you know which rooms the family actually sits in rather than which rooms look best.

So use it. A small closed guest room takes the 50ml, full stop - a 130ml in that room is the commonest mistake in this whole category and it ends up in a corridor within a week. A large open living and dining space is the one place a 130ml at ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 earns its price. If the house is one big open floor and one small bedroom, the 130ml pair at ₹2,498 is wrong and a 50ml duo plus nothing else is right.
3
The register
When a duo set is too much, and when it is the wrong gift entirely
Two honest cases against it. First, frequency: if you stay at your sister's flat one weekend in four, a ₹1,548 boxed set every time stops reading as thanks and starts reading as settlement. A single 50ml at ₹749, or a candle at ₹399, is the correct size for a visit that is routine.

Second, the house that has already decided. If your host runs a diffuser they picked for the living room, a boxed pair arriving for the same space is a comment on their choice. Give a pair aimed at rooms they have not handled, or give a 300ml refill at ₹2,399 in a scent they already run - remembering that Evening Calm is the one scent with no refill published, so if that is what they use, the refill route is closed.
Tip: A weekend you repeat monthly is a ₹399 candle occasion, not a ₹1,548 one.
SOSA Morning Freshness reed diffuser, Malabar lemon and mint, Rs 749
The size decision, before the scent decision
50ml or 130ml is a room question, not a budget question
The 50ml from ₹749 suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or anybody receiving their first diffuser. The 130ml from ₹1,249 suits an open-plan living and dining area or a large 3BHK living room, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom - a bigger bottle in the wrong room gets moved into a corridor. All five scents run about 6 to 10 weeks either way.
See the SOSA reed diffusers →
Work it out in this order
How to choose the weekend gift before you pack
  1. Note the guest room while you are in it: closed and small, or open and large.
  2. Pick a duo set from Rs 1,498 so two rooms are covered, not one loudly.
  3. Keep 50ml bottles for closed rooms; 130ml only for a large open living area.
  4. If you stay here every month, drop to one 50ml at Rs 749 or a candle at Rs 399.
The SOSA principle
The weekend guest is the only gift-buyer who has done the research by accident. You have slept in the room, used the bathroom and seen the house at breakfast, which is more than any amount of deliberation gives anybody else.
So the mistake to avoid is not spending too little - it is ignoring what you learned and buying the biggest bottle on the page.

Which duo, and which size within the duo

There are three duo sets and they split differently, so pick by the two rooms rather than by price. Day & Night at ₹1,498 pairs Morning Freshness, Malabar lemon and mint, with Evening Calm, lavender and chamomile - those are the names on the bottles and descriptions of the ingredients, not claims about what either does. Fresh & Grounded at ₹1,548 pairs Morning Freshness with Mountain Breeze, Himalayan pine, sage and cedar, which is the most straightforward split between a bright room and a quieter one. Warmth & Bloom at ₹1,598 pairs Fresh Brew, Coorg coffee and Kerala vanilla, with Garden Bloom, British rose and night-blooming jasmine - the most decorative pair and the one that needs you to be confident about the household's taste, because Fresh Brew is the strongest opinion in the range.

The SOSA gift edit
Four ways to thank a weekend host, and where each one goes wrong
The option Who it suits, and where it fails
A 50ml duo set · ₹1,498 to ₹1,598 The default here. Two 50ml bottles in one box, two rooms, about 6 to 10 weeks each, no flame and nothing to plug in. It fails when the stay was routine rather than special, where it starts to look like a transaction.
A 130ml duo set · ₹2,498 to ₹2,598 The same three pairings in the larger bottles. Right only for a house with two genuinely large or open spaces. In a flat with closed bedrooms it is two bottles that are both too big, which is twice the mistake rather than a better gift.
A single 130ml reed · ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 One large open living and dining area, handled properly. Cheaper than a duo and the better choice when the house has exactly one big room and you know which one it is. It fails in a compact flat, where it gets moved out of the room it was meant for.
A single 50ml reed · ₹749 to ₹849 The right size when the weekend is a regular thing rather than an event - your brother's flat, the friend you visit every few weeks. It fails as a one-off thank-you for a household that genuinely rearranged itself for you.
SOSA Warmth and Bloom reed diffuser duo gift set, Rs 1,598
When it has to look like an occasion
A duo set is the readymade gift box, without anybody assembling a hamper
Two 50ml reeds in one box: Day & Night pairs Morning Freshness lemon-mint with Evening Calm lavender-chamomile at ₹1,498, Fresh & Grounded pairs lemon-mint with Mountain Breeze pine and cedar at ₹1,548, and Warmth & Bloom pairs Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla with Garden Bloom rose-jasmine at ₹1,598. The 130ml x 2 versions are ₹2,498, ₹2,548 and ₹2,598.
See the reed duo gift sets →

Two last practicalities. Refills: 300ml at ₹2,399 and 500ml at ₹3,499 are published for Morning Freshness, Garden Bloom, Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew, and Evening Calm publishes no refill - so of the three duos, Day & Night is the one where half the box cannot be topped up later. And branding, since weekend hosts are sometimes colleagues or clients: SOSA can do a custom label or logo on the product itself, and that is the whole of it. There are no hampers, no printed cards, no ribbon and no personalisation, and nothing is enclosed with an order, so the thank-you is something you say rather than something SOSA prints. Bulk orders are welcome and are discussed on WhatsApp rather than priced on a page.

When the gift is meant to be the big one
SOSA Safar ₹3,999 for the car, SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 for the whole home
Safar is the waterless, cordless, rechargeable cold-diffusion perfume diffuser for a car or a travel bag - ₹3,999 for the SOSA-scent trios and ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios. Vaayu is the machine version of the same idea for a building: waterless cold-air nebulising of undiluted oil, rated for approximately 1000 m3 of connected air, with a Bluetooth app and timer, a 400ml tank, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, DC 12V / 1A 5W mains power and CE, RoHS and SGS marks. Both run waterless nebuliser oil - 100 gm ₹1,049, 300 gm ₹1,849 - and neither takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle. A rating assumes one connected body of air, so a Vaayu suits a large open home or a business and is the wrong gift for a two-bedroom flat with every door closed. It adds a scent to a space; it does not remove one.

The weekend guest already knows which room is cold, which door is always shut and where the family actually sits. Nobody buying a housewarming gift knows any of that, and most weekend guests throw the knowledge away at the shop.

The SOSA gifting range

Two questions settle almost every reed diffuser gift, and the first one is not price. How big is the room it is going into? A 50ml suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a first diffuser; a 130ml suits an open-plan living and dining area, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom. Then: how much do you actually know about their taste? The less you know, the less declarative the scent should be - Morning Freshness is the safest of the five for a home you have never stood in, and Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla is the strongest opinion in the range. Price follows those two answers rather than leading them.

SOSA reed diffusers 50ml The standard gift size Five scents, about 6 to 10 weeks, nothing to plug in or switch off - right for a bedroom, a study or a first diffuser from ₹749

SOSA scented candles Hand-poured, small batches ₹399 for about 15 to 18 hours - the smaller home gift, and the one that needs a flame from ₹399

SOSA Vaayu Waterless cold-air machine Approx 1000 m3 of connected air with a Bluetooth app and timer - a large open home or a business, not a flat ₹11,999

Three different fluids run through this range and none of them is interchangeable. Reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil. The SOSA ultrasonics - Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899 and Megh ₹5,999 - run the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299. Vaayu and Safar run waterless nebulising oil, so the ₹299 water-based bottle never goes into either of them. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

The reed diffuser is the product people are least embarrassed to give and most surprised by afterwards. What they expect is a decorative object. What it actually is, is a small piece of a household that runs for six to ten weeks and then ends, which is a very different thing from an ornament somebody has to keep forever out of politeness.

The reason I recommend it so often for gifting is unromantic: you are buying for a room rather than for a person. Personal fragrance is a taste decision, and when you cannot finish the sentence she usually wears something with..., no amount of money makes the guess better. A room does not have a signature scent it is loyal to. That is why a reed diffuser works for a colleague, a client, a mother-in-law and a friend's new flat - relationships where you may like somebody very much and still have no idea what is on their dressing table.

The one thing I would press on is size, because it is where good intentions go wrong. The 130ml is not the better gift, it is the bigger room's gift. Put it in a small closed bedroom and the person will move it to a corridor within a week. A 50ml at ₹749 in the right room beats a 130ml at ₹1,249 in the wrong one every single time, and if you want to spend more, spend it on the duo set so they get two rooms rather than one very loud one.

Frequently asked questions

What should I give someone who let me stay for the weekend?
A step up from a dinner gift. A reed duo set is two 50ml bottles in one box at Rs 1,498 for Day and Night, Rs 1,548 for Fresh and Grounded and Rs 1,598 for Warmth and Bloom, which covers two rooms instead of one. Each bottle runs about 6 to 10 weeks with no flame and nothing to plug in.
Is a duo set or a single 130ml better for a weekend host?
It depends on the house you have just slept in. If there is one genuinely large open living and dining area, a single 130ml at Rs 1,249 to Rs 1,349 put in that room is the better spend. If the house is several ordinary rooms with doors, two 50ml bottles from a duo set are better than one bottle that is too big for any of them.
How much should a weekend thank-you gift cost?
There is no rule, but the useful benchmark is that it should read as larger than a dinner gift. A single 50ml reed is Rs 749 to Rs 849, a duo set is Rs 1,498 to Rs 1,598, and the 130ml duo pairs are Rs 2,498 to Rs 2,598. If you stay often, the smaller end is more appropriate, not less.
Can SOSA put a card or a message in the box?
No. SOSA does not enclose printed cards, notes, ribbon or wrapping, and there are no hampers - the duo sets are the only boxed format that exists. For corporate gifting, a custom label or logo on the product itself is possible, and that is discussed on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531.
Which duo set should I choose if I do not know their taste well?
Fresh and Grounded at Rs 1,548, which is Morning Freshness lemon-mint with Mountain Breeze pine, sage and cedar. Both are relatively undeclarative. Warmth and Bloom at Rs 1,598 contains Fresh Brew, coffee and vanilla, which is the strongest opinion in the range and the easiest to get wrong for somebody else's house.

Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent and does not remove, neutralise or purify odour, and no SOSA product makes any health, antibacterial, air-purifying or wellbeing claim. No claim is made about how any recipient will feel about a gift. No claim is made anywhere on this page about mood, stress, calm, sleep, comfort or wellbeing: fragrance is a scent, not a treatment, and where a product name contains a word such as Calm that is a name and not an effect. Where this guide covers sending something to a person having a difficult time, it treats a gift as a gesture of attention alongside real support and never as a substitute for a person or for professional help, and it gives no mental-health advice. No delivery date, dispatch time, order cut-off, discount or minimum order quantity is stated anywhere on this page; corporate and bulk enquiries are answered on WhatsApp. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand; the SOSA perfumes are SOSA's own compositions and are not the designer fragrances they are described as being inspired by. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
