They answer different questions. Volume decides which machine the room needs; guest movement decides where inside the room it stands, and that second decision gets skipped.
Quick answers — read this first
Should placement follow guest movement or square footage? Both, at different stages. Air volume including ceiling height determines which machine a room needs; guest movement determines where inside the room it should stand and where the level should be judged from.

What are the placement rules? Deep in the room rather than by the entrance, away from seating, out of sight lines and photographic backgrounds, and at a position with a socket so no cable crosses a floor.

Why deep rather than at the door? So guests walk into an established level rather than past a source. A SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 placed at an entrance produces a strong patch and a weak room, on fragrance from ₹299.
The short answer
Short answer: Volume sizes the machine; movement places it. Deep in the room, away from seating, out of shot, beside a socket.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 as reusable event kit for one enclosed room up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected volume, the Aangan at ₹25,999 for a large enclosed hall, on Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299. Lawns, courtyards and dining zones are specified as nothing.
Sizing? WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with how many events a year, typical enclosed-room sizes at the venues you use, and whether you want to own or rent the equipment - remote sizing from your own measurements, no site visit needed outside Pune.
How SOSA sizes a commercial space - the order that actually worksStep 1 - find the source: solvents, sanitiser, footwear, drains, AC filters, stale airStep 2 - draw the air volume, not the floor plan: doors and partitions divide itStep 3 - decide which zones stay unscented, and write that downStep 4 - set intensity low and schedule it around your peakStep 5 - re-check after two weeks, then leave it alone
Commercial scenting goes wrong in a predictable order: somebody buys a machine to cover a smell that has a source, puts it where the socket is, runs it at full intensity because day one felt weak, and ends up with a room people comment on for the wrong reason. Source first, air volume second, unscented zones written down third, low intensity and a schedule fourth. This guide walks that sequence, with the real SOSA machine range at each size.
Straight answer
Should machine placement follow guest movement rather than venue square footage?
They answer two different questions and both are needed, but the movement question is the one that gets skipped. Volume decides which machine. Length by width by ceiling height tells you whether a room needs a Vaayu at ₹11,999 or an Aangan at ₹25,999, and floor area alone will under-specify any high-ceilinged heritage room. Guest movement decides where in the room it stands, and there are four rules. First, deep rather than at the entrance. A machine by the door produces a strong patch at the threshold and a weaker room beyond it, so guests walk past a source instead of into an established level; placed deep, the room fills evenly and the entrance reads as a transition. Second, away from seating. Nobody should spend an hour sitting beside a diffuser, and at a wedding the seating is where the elderly relatives and the long conversations end up. Third, out of sight lines and out of photographic backgrounds, which means agreeing the position with whoever is shooting, during the walkthrough - this is the placement rule that prevents the only complaint you will reliably get afterwards. Fourth, at a position with a socket, because the alternative is a cable across a floor guests walk on in low light and long clothing. One more movement-derived rule: set the level standing where guests enter, not where the machine is, and by somebody who has been outside. The level that matters is the one arriving guests meet. Specification: one machine per enclosed volume, on Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299. SOSA makes no claim about how an event is remembered and no mood or calming claim. Fragrance is an ambience decision and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. Guests include children, elderly relatives and fragrance-sensitive people, so levels stay low and unscented seating should be available. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: volume picks the machine, movement picks the corner - deep, unseated, unseen, near a socket.
Small and quiet enough to place properly: a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, under 38 dB, fragrance from ₹299.

Two different decisions

Most planners size correctly and then put the machine wherever the socket happens to be, which undoes half of it.

Why this works
Four placement rules
1 Deep in the room, so guests walk into a level rather than past a source 2 Away from seating, where people sit for an hour at a time 3 Out of sight lines and photographic backgrounds, agreed with the photographer 4 At a position with a socket, so no cable crosses a guest floor
The machine planners buy rather than rent: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, under 38 dB, app and timer control, key-locked, and it goes back into the store cupboard on Monday. Fragrance from ₹299.
01
Why deep works better
Even room, quiet threshold
A source at the entrance creates a concentration gradient that peaks exactly where guests are least able to tolerate it and thins out where you wanted the effect. Placed deep, the volume fills more evenly and the doorway becomes a transition rather than a hit, which is also how the level ends up lower overall for the same perceived result - a saving on refills nobody expects.
Tip: A machine at the door scents the doorway and disappoints the room.
02
The photographer rule
One question, one complaint prevented
Wedding rooms are photographed continuously from angles nobody plans, and a white unit on a console table turns up in a surprising share of the results. Asking the photographer during the walkthrough where not to put it takes thirty seconds and prevents the single most common post-event complaint about scenting. They know their backgrounds; nobody else does.
03
Judge from the entrance
The arriving nose is the one that counts
The level should be set standing where guests come in, by somebody who has been outside, because that is the only reading that reflects what a guest experiences. Setting it from beside the machine, or from inside the room after twenty minutes, produces a level that is reliably too high - and at a wedding the people doing the setting have usually been on site since morning.
Tip: Set it from the door, with a nose that has been outdoors.
The SOSA principle
Most planners size the room correctly and then put the machine wherever the socket was.
Which loses most of what the sizing bought.
SOSA Hotel Collection diffuser fragrance

Four placement rules

Placement also decides how much fragrance the event consumes, since a well-placed unit reaches the same perceived level at a lower setting than a badly placed one.

The SOSA scent edit
Two decisions, two inputs
Scent Why it suits the mood
Which machine Air volume - length by width by ceiling height
Where in the room Guest movement - deep, away from seating, out of shot
Power A socket at the chosen position, never a cable across a floor
Where to judge level Standing at the entrance, with a nose that has been outside

Not sure which size? WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with how many events a year, typical enclosed-room sizes at the venues you use, and whether you want to own or rent the equipment - sizing is done remotely from your own measurements.

The zone-counting that precedes this is in the scent zones chapter, keeping the unit invisible is in the noticing a diffuser chapter, and the walkthrough timing argument is in the planning stage chapter.

The SOSA commercial range

Whatever the space, the method is the same: find the source of any smell and fix it, draw the air volume rather than the floor plan, write down which zones stay unscented, then set a low intensity and a schedule. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the range by the size of space it is honestly built for.

The SOSA commercial range
Sized by air volume, not by ambition - from a ₹749 reed diffuser to the ₹38,500 Meenar
Option Right for What it actually is Price
Reed diffusers One small room, no power point, no maintenance Alcohol-free reed oil, passive, silent. Good for a single cabin or a small front desk, not for a hall from ₹749
Boond / Sukoon ultrasonic A desk, a single cabin, a small reception Water-based cool mist; runs on Hotel Collection fragrance, adds a little humidity to the room ₹899 / ₹1,899
Megh ultrasonic (6L) A larger waiting area where visible mist is wanted 6L tank, water-based. Still a room machine rather than a floor machine ₹3,499
SOSA Vaayu Reception, lounge, corridor, a contained showroom floor Waterless cold-air, up to 1000m³ (about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft), 400ml tank, app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, under 38 dB, key-lock for public areas ₹11,999
SOSA Aangan Large premises, or scenting carried on the building's own HVAC HVAC-mount nebulising machine, 800ml, roughly 8,000 to 10,000 sq ft, under 42 dB ₹25,999
SOSA Meenar Hotels, large showrooms, venues, corporate floors The largest machine in the range, specified for roughly 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft ₹38,500
Hotel Collection fragrance The fragrance the machines actually run on Seven scents, 15ml / 100ml / 300ml. SOSA's own interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand from ₹299
Honest notes for planners and event designers: fragrance is an ambience decision only and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. Fragrance introduced into a semi-open or outdoor volume is carried away by air that does not stay in the space, so it is spent rather than used. This is a physical limit and not a machine limit: no output setting makes an open courtyard hold a scent. No therapeutic, mood, calming or memory claim should be made to a client, and dining areas should be left unscented. Where a venue carries heavy fresh floral installation, additional fragrance is generally not recommended. Guests include children, elderly relatives and fragrance-sensitive people, so low levels and unscented seating are recommended. SOSA makes no claim that ambient scenting increases bookings, enquiries, conversion, retention, referrals, transaction value or guest spend, and no such claim should be made on the strength of this guide. Where memory or association language is used it is descriptive of ordinary experience - people come to associate a place with how it felt - and is not a commercial performance claim, nor a claim about mood, sleep, stress, calm or any other therapeutic effect. Ultrasonic diffusers and the machines run on the Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil, and the two are not interchangeable. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. SOSA's fragrances are made in India; the scent machines are imported. Listed prices are store prices and are subject to change. SOSA's paid on-site walkthrough is ₹1,500 and is Pune only - everywhere else, sizing is done remotely over WhatsApp from your own measurements. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. WhatsApp: +91 96192 18531.
SOSA Sukoon ultrasonic cool mist diffuser
The small-room option Sukoon ultrasonic diffuser ₹1,899 A 500ml water-based cool-mist diffuser for a single cabin or a small desk. It adds a little humidity to the room, which is the reason it is not the choice for a monsoon-season space. See full specs →Size it on WhatsApp

A note from Sonal

Planners are the only buyers in this cluster who should be thinking about ownership rather than a purchase. If you run twenty or thirty premium weddings a year, you are already spending on temporary fragrance products that leave with the bins, and a machine that goes back into the store cupboard on Monday is a different kind of cost entirely. I will not put a payback figure on it, but the arithmetic is yours to do and it is not complicated.

The bigger service you can give a client is knowing where to say none. Dining neutral. Lawns and courtyards left alone. Two or three enclosed rooms done quietly. A planner who walks a venue and produces that map looks considerably more expert than one who arrives with a fogger, and it costs the client less, which is a pleasant thing to be able to say out loud.

The honest limits, which I would want in your client deck as well. Fragrance is an ambience decision, never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control, and neither SOSA nor a planner should claim any effect on mood, calm or how the day is remembered. If you want to talk about owning equipment, WhatsApp me on +91 96192 18531. A part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Should placement follow guest movement or square footage?
Both. Air volume including ceiling height decides which machine a room needs; guest movement decides where inside the room it should stand.
Why place the machine deep in the room?
So guests walk into an established level rather than past a source. A unit at the entrance produces a strong threshold and a weaker room.
Why consult the photographer?
Because wedding rooms are photographed from angles nobody plans, and a visible unit in the background is the most common post-event complaint.
Where should the level be judged from?
Standing at the guest entrance, by somebody who has been outside, because that is the only reading reflecting what an arriving guest experiences.
Does placement affect fragrance consumption?
Yes. A well-placed unit reaches the same perceived level at a lower setting. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
