Every few weeks an owner asks me the question in exactly these words: is it worth it? They mean the machine, and they usually want a number back. I do not have a number, and anyone who gives you one is selling. What I have is a way of deciding that does not need one.
Quick answers — read this first
Is a commercial scent machine worth buying for an appliance showroom? Yes, from about 1,500 sq ft of connected sales floor, or earlier if a timer, a key-lock and the absence of water on the floor matter to you - and no, not for a studio under about 750 sq ft, where one reed diffuser at the desk is the honest purchase. Judge it as an interiors line item, the way you judge the lighting design or the music licence: it is a decision about how the floor feels, and it is not a business case.

What does the machine actually buy you over a reed? Four things a reed cannot do: reach across a whole floor rather than one desk zone; hold a level under a key-lock so a busy team cannot drift it upward; run on a timer so it switches off for the live-kitchen demo and on again for trading hours; and do all of that without water, so nothing is added to the air around steel, glass and screens. If none of those four matters in your floor, do not buy it.

What is the honest recommendation? Under about 750 sq ft: a SOSA Mountain Breeze reed (Rs 849) or, in a single studio room, a SOSA Sukoon (Rs 1,899). From about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor: one SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999), waterless, 1000m³, timer and key-lock, 90+ days a fill. Past about 3,000 sq ft: one SOSA Angaan (Rs 25,999). Fragrance is an interiors decision like lighting or music; SOSA makes no claim that it changes dwell time, footfall, conversion or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish.
The short answer
Short answer: worth it as an interiors line item from about 1,500 sq ft of connected sales floor, or wherever a timer, a key-lock and no water matter; not worth it for a studio a reed can carry. Decide it like the lighting, not like an advertising spend.
The pick: from about 1,500 sq ft, one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999); under about 750 sq ft, a Mountain Breeze reed (₹849) at the desk or a SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) in a single room - and for that studio, the reed is the whole purchase; past about 3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999).
Next step: send the connected floor area, ceiling height and where the live kitchen is, and we will tell you plainly whether a machine is worth it for your floor - ask for a showroom scenting plan.

Straight answer
Is a commercial scent machine worth buying for my appliance showroom?
It is worth buying in exactly the way your lighting design was worth buying, and for exactly the same reason: because you decided the floor should feel a certain way, and this is the tool that makes that decision hold. Put the question in those terms and it answers itself. A commercial scent machine is an interiors line item. It is not an advertising spend, it is not a promotion, and it comes with no figure attached. SOSA makes no claim that fragrance changes footfall, dwell time, conversion, basket size or sales, and if a supplier offers you a percentage, you are being sold to. So the honest question is not "what does it return" but "does my floor need what this machine does that nothing cheaper does" - and that has a clean answer by size. Under about 750 sq ft, no. A studio with a desk, two display kitchens and a sample wall is carried by one Mountain Breeze reed at ₹849, or by a SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 if it is one enclosed room and you are willing to fill it with water each morning. A machine at that size is a bigger source than the air can use, and you will spend the first month turning it down. Between 750 and 1,500 sq ft is the decision point, and the machine is bought there for one of four reasons or not at all: you want the scent to reach past the desk zone a reed stops at; you want a level that a team of eight cannot nudge upward, which is what the key-lock is for; you want it to switch itself off while the hob demo runs and on again at opening, which is the timer; or you want no water anywhere near steel, glass and screens, which is what waterless means. From about 1,500 sq ft of connected sales floor, yes: one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is the whole installation - 1000m³, a 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, key-lock, under 38dB, wall or HVAC mount - and it is the point where the alternatives stop working, because six reeds scattered across a floor are six desk zones, not a floor. Past about 3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan at ₹25,999 rather than a second Vaayu in the same air. Then set the expectation properly. The machine buys reach, consistency, a schedule and dryness. It does not buy a cleaner floor - plastic, packaging and warm dust are ventilation and unboxing problems that fragrance never covers - and it is never a substitute for extraction, ventilation or cleaning. It does nothing about the open door, which exchanges threshold air all day whatever you run. It stays out of the live kitchen and the coffee counter, because the demonstration owns that air and the demo zone stays unscented. And SOSA makes no claim about what fragrance does to any appliance, screen or finish; the one product fact is that a waterless machine adds no moisture and leaves no residue. If, having read that, you still want the floor to smell like a beautifully kept home nine hours a day, at one level, on a schedule, without water - then yes, it is worth it, and what to ask before buying is the next page to read. Ask for a showroom scenting plan and we will give you a plain yes or no for your floor.
Worth it as an interiors line item from about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, or earlier if timer, key-lock and no water matter; not worth it for a studio, where one Mountain Breeze reed (Rs 849) is the purchase. Vaayu Rs 11,999; Angaan past 3,000 sq ft. No business number is promised.
From about 1,500 sq ft of connected sales floor, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is the whole purchase - waterless, 1000m³, timer and key-lock, 90+ days a fill. Below that, a reed at the desk is the honest buy.

What worth-it looks like at each size

The same purchase is right at one size and wrong at another. Here are the two ends of the ladder with the reasons attached; the images link to the product pages so every figure can be checked.

SOSA Vaayu
Worth it - from about 1,500 sq ft of connected sales floor
SOSA Vaayu
One waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, Rs 11,999. Buys four things a reed cannot: reach across a whole floor; a key-locked level; a 1h/4h/8h/24h timer that switches it off for the demo and on for trading; and no water near steel, glass and screens. 400ml tank, 90+ days a fill, under 38dB, wall or HVAC mount.
From ₹11,999
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
Not worth a machine - under about 750 sq ft
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
For a studio, the machine is the wrong purchase and this is the right one. Himalayan pine, sage and cedar - dry, quiet, the showroom default. Alcohol-free, six fibre reeds, flip weekly; 50ml Rs 849 lasts 6-8 weeks, 130ml Rs 1,349 lasts 14-18 weeks. Reaches one desk zone, which in a studio is most of the floor.
From ₹849
SOSA Vaayu
The machine the question is usually about
SOSA Vaayu Waterless Diffuser
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft) on one unit, Rs 11,999. Adjustable intensity, 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, key-lock, under 38dB, DC 12V/1A 5W. Freestanding or wall and HVAC mount. CE, RoHS, SGS certified. Made in India.

The five tests that decide whether the machine is worth buying

Run your floor through these five in order. If it fails the first two, buy a reed and stop reading. If it passes the first two and any one of the last three, the machine is worth it.

1
Size
Connected sales floor, not the number of displays
The first test is the only one most owners need. Measure the sales floor that shares one body of air - not the back store, not the demo kitchen, not the manager's cabin - and read it against the ladder. Under about 300 sq ft, one reed at the desk. From 300 to about 750, a reed or a Sukoon in a single room. From 750 to about 1,500, the decision point, where the machine is bought for control and not for coverage. From about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, one Vaayu, and it is worth it because nothing smaller reaches. Past about 3,000, one Angaan. A 500 sq ft studio fails this test, and the honest advice for it is in what scent machine a 500 sq ft studio needs: none.
Test: if the floor is smaller than a good-sized flat, the machine is a bigger source than the air can use.
2
Ceiling
You buy for volume, and a double-height floor is twice the air
The second test corrects the first. A machine is rated in cubic metres - the Vaayu to 1000m³ - and the square-foot figures on product pages assume an ordinary ceiling. An experience centre with a double-height atrium over the reception, or a converted-warehouse floor at five metres, holds far more air than its footprint suggests, so the "worth it" line arrives earlier in area terms. A 1,200 sq ft floor at a normal height is a decision-point floor; the same 1,200 sq ft under a tall ceiling is a floor that needs the machine, because a reed's desk zone is a smaller fraction of that air. Height is why the honest answer is always "send the plan": how to scent a 1,500 sq ft kitchen-appliance experience centre shows how a single number changes with the ceiling.
Rule: measure the height before you measure the area. It moves the ladder more often than the area does.
3
Control
A key-lock is worth buying on any floor with more than two staff
Here is the reason a machine can be worth it at 900 sq ft. On a shop floor, fragrance levels only ever drift upward. Someone arriving at eight in the morning to a floor that smells of nothing turns it up; nobody ever turns it down; and by the third month the advisors who stand there nine hours a day have stopped mentioning it because mentioning it did nothing. A reed cannot be locked. A Vaayu can: the key-lock holds the setting the team agreed on, and only the person with the key changes it. If your floor has more than two people on it and no single owner present all day, that lock is the feature you are paying for, and it justifies the machine on its own. The level you lock it at is the one the advisor who stands there all day has stopped noticing.
SOSA Vaayu
The Vaayu holds one level under a key-lock, runs a timer, and switches off in one press for a demo.
See SOSA Vaayu →
4
Schedule
A timer is worth buying on any floor with a live kitchen
The fourth test is the demonstration. If your floor has a live kitchen, an oven or hob demo, or a coffee-tasting counter, the rule of this whole cluster applies: the demonstration owns the air while it runs, the demo zone stays unscented, and the fragrance is switched off during the demo and returns only when the room smells of nothing - extraction, not fragrance, does the clearing. A reed cannot be switched off; you can only carry it out of the room. A machine with 1h/4h/8h/24h timers and an app can be scheduled to run trading hours and to stop before the eleven o'clock demo, every day, without anyone remembering. If you demo three times a week, the timer is worth the price difference on its own. Whether to switch off during an oven or hob demonstration is the working version of that rule.
Rule: the demo kitchen and the coffee counter stay unscented whatever you buy. The timer is how the machine obeys that.
5
Water
No water on the floor is worth buying wherever the merchandise is steel, glass and screens
The last test is the one specific to an appliance floor. An ultrasonic diffuser - the Sukoon is one - works by putting a fine water mist into the air, and it needs filling and wiping every day. On a single studio room that is fine and honest. On a large floor of steel, black glass and screens, most owners would rather not add moisture to the air at all, and a waterless cold-air machine is how you avoid it: the Vaayu adds no moisture and leaves no residue. That is the entire product fact. SOSA makes no claim about what fragrance or humidity does to any appliance, screen or finish; whether room humidity matters to what you sell is a question for the brands you carry. If the answer is that you would simply rather not, the waterless machine is worth it, and ultrasonic vs commercial machine works through the choice in full.
SOSA Sukoon
The Sukoon is the honest buy for one enclosed studio room - water-based, filled daily, 16-18 hours on low.
See SOSA Sukoon →
The SOSA principle
A scent machine is worth buying when the floor needs reach, a locked level, a schedule and no water - and not worth buying to chase a number nobody can promise you.
Judge it as an interiors line item. Size, ceiling, control, schedule, water. Pass the tests and buy it; fail them and buy a reed.
SOSA Vaayu
The purchase that is worth it from 1,500 sq ft: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999, waterless, timer and key-lock, 1000m³ of connected sales floor, 90+ days a fill.

Reed, Sukoon, Vaayu, Angaan - what each is worth for

Worth-it is not one answer; it is four, one per rung of the ladder. This table says what each purchase is actually for, so you buy the rung and not the aspiration.

Nothing at all
Worth choosing when the floor still smells of plastic, packaging or warm dust - fragrance never covers those. Ventilate, unbox in the back, clean the vents, and come back to this page once the floor smells of nothing.

Three sibling pages sharpen the choice: reed diffuser vs waterless machine for a small floor, what it costs per month to keep a showroom fragranced for the running arithmetic, and what a premium appliance showroom should smell like for the register you would be buying any of this to carry. SOSA makes no claim that any rung of the ladder changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales.

A note from Sonal

I have talked more owners out of the Vaayu than into it, and I think that is the right ratio for an honest company. The ones I talk out of it have a studio - six hundred square feet, a desk, two kitchens, a wall of handles - and they have read somewhere that a machine is what serious showrooms use. A machine in that room is a source the air cannot absorb. They would spend the first month turning it down and the second month wondering why they bought it. A reed at the desk at eight hundred and forty-nine rupees is the serious answer for that floor, and I say so.

The ones I talk into it have a floor of two thousand square feet, a live kitchen at the back, eight advisors, and a fragrance level that has crept up every month since they started because nobody was in charge of it. For that floor the Vaayu is worth it three times over - once for the reach, once for the key-lock, once for the timer that switches it off before the demo - and the absence of water is the fourth reason on a floor of steel and glass. None of those reasons is a number. I do not have a number. Fragrance is an interiors decision like lighting or music: no claim that it changes footfall, dwell time or sales, no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish, never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction, and the live kitchen and coffee counter stay unscented.

So: worth it from about fifteen hundred square feet, worth it earlier if the lock, the timer or the dryness matter, and not worth it for a studio. Past three thousand, one Angaan, not two Vaayus. If you want to check your own floor against that before you spend anything, what to ask before buying is the checklist, and a plan from us is free. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

At what floor size does a commercial scent machine become worth buying for an appliance showroom?
From about 1,500 sq ft of connected sales floor, one SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is worth it because nothing smaller reaches across the floor. Between 750 and 1,500 sq ft it is worth it only if you want the key-lock, the timer or a waterless source - it is bought there for control, not coverage. Under about 750 sq ft a Mountain Breeze reed at Rs 849 is the honest purchase and the machine is not worth it.
Should a 500 sq ft appliance studio buy a scent machine at all?
No. A studio of that size is carried by one Mountain Breeze or Morning Freshness reed diffuser at the desk, Rs 749-849, which reaches one desk zone and in a studio that is most of the floor. A SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,899 is the alternative for a single enclosed room if a daily water routine is acceptable. A Vaayu in a studio is a bigger source than the air can use and you would spend a month turning it down.
Does SOSA give a return figure for a showroom scent machine?
No, and no honest supplier can. SOSA makes no claim that ambient fragrance changes footfall, dwell time, conversion, basket size or sales, and a supplier who quotes you a percentage is selling. Judge the machine as an interiors line item, like the lighting design or the music licence: it is bought because you decided how the floor should feel, and it is worth it when the floor needs reach, a locked level, a schedule and no water.
What does a waterless scent machine do that a reed diffuser cannot in a showroom?
Four things. It reaches across a connected floor rather than one desk zone. It holds a level under a key-lock so a busy team cannot drift it upward. It runs on 1h/4h/8h/24h timers so it switches off for the live-kitchen demo and on for trading hours without anyone remembering. And it does all of that without water, adding no moisture and leaving no residue on steel, glass or screens. If none of the four matters on your floor, the reed is the better purchase.
Is a scent machine worth buying to fix a showroom that smells of new plastic?
No. New plastic, packaging off-gassing, warm dust on vents and cardboard in the back store are ventilation, unboxing and cleaning problems, and fragrance over any of them is a worse smell than either alone. A scent machine is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction. Fix the floor until it smells of nothing, then come back to the question of whether a machine is worth it for the floor you actually have.
