This is the nicest question we get, because nothing has gone wrong. You are not writing to complain. You like the fragrance, you like the bottle, and you would like it to travel further than it does. Before you spend anything, there is one distinction worth making, because the word reach hides two completely different wishes and they have two completely different answers - and one of them costs a great deal less than the other.
Quick answers — read this first
I love my reed diffuser but I want more reach. What should I buy? It depends on what reach means to you, and there are only two versions of it. If you mean you want the fragrance to be unmistakable in the place you actually occupy - the bedside, the desk, the seat of the car - that is the waterless cordless SOSA Safar at Rs 3,999, which diffuses pure undiluted oil and ships with three hotel-inspired blends. If you mean you want the whole room to smell of it evenly, wall to wall, that is an ultrasonic: a Boond at Rs 899 or a Sukoon at Rs 1,899 running the water-based Hotel Collection from Rs 299. Boond plus one bottle is Rs 899 plus Rs 299, which is Rs 1,198 all in, and that is cheaper than the Safar by Rs 2,801. For a whole ordinary bedroom the cheaper machine is the correct machine, and we would rather say so.

Do I have to give up the reed diffuser I already have? Not at all, and we would rather you did not. A reed diffuser is passive by design: the oil climbs the reeds by capillary action and then waits for the air to come and collect it, so it gives you a pool of fragrance around where the bottle stands and asks for nothing in return. No plug, no switch, no noise, nothing to refill and nothing to fail, for about 6 to 10 weeks. That is a genuinely good product, and it stays good in the rooms that suit it - a bathroom, a study, a guest room, a bedside, an entryway console. What you are buying now is not a replacement, it is a second tool for a job the first one was never built to do. Most people who write to us end up with both.

Is the more expensive option the better one? No, and here it is the opposite of that. The Safar at Rs 3,999 is the most expensive small diffuser we make and it is still the wrong answer if what you want is even coverage across a bedroom, because it is a personal-space diffuser - SOSA's own copy lists it for car, handbag, work desk, bedside, hotel and travel. We publish no square-foot or cubic-metre coverage figure for it, and we will not invent one to make a sale look tidier. An ultrasonic is the one designed for rooms, and Boond plus a Hotel Collection bottle comes to Rs 1,198. The honest test is not what costs more. It is whether you want scent strongest where you are, or spread evenly where you are not.
The short answer
Short answer: Decide which reach you mean first. Reach that means strong and true right where you sit or sleep, or one diffuser carried between bedside, desk and car, is the waterless cordless SOSA Safar at Rs 3,999 with three hotel-inspired blends included. Reach that means the whole room scented evenly is an ultrasonic, which is active, designed for rooms and cheaper: Boond Rs 899 plus the water-based Hotel Collection Rs 299 is Rs 1,198, or Sukoon Rs 1,899 plus Rs 299 is Rs 2,198. Keep the reed diffuser from Rs 749 for the small rooms where it already excels. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your room size.
The pick: keep the reed from ₹749 for ambience near where it stands; an ultrasonic from ₹899 with the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299 when you want the whole room evenly; the SOSA Safar (₹3,999, waterless and cordless, three hotel-inspired blends included) when you want it strong and true in the space you sit in; the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for a large or open-plan room.
Talk to us: WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your room's approximate size and where you actually sit or sleep in it, and we will place you on the ladder honestly.
Why it smells near the bottle - at a glanceStep 1 - a reed diffuser is passive: oil evaporates, nothing pushes itStep 2 - so it is strongest at the bottle and fades with distanceStep 3 - whole room evenly? An active diffuser from ₹899Step 4 - strong where you sit or sleep? Safar ₹3,999Keep the reed too · from ₹749, no power needed
Nothing has gone wrong with your reed diffuser. A reed is a passive system: the oil climbs the sticks and evaporates at whatever rate your room's warmth and air movement allow, and no part of it pushes scent anywhere. That is exactly why it is lovely at arm's length and quiet across the room. What has changed is what you now want from it. Ambience near where the bottle stands is one job; a whole room that smells of it, or a strong true scent right where you sit, is a different job, and a different job needs a different tool. This guide explains the mechanism first, then tells you honestly which tool matches which wish.
Straight answer
I love my reed diffuser and only want it to reach further. What should I actually buy?
One question first, and it settles everything. Do you want it strong where you are, or even where you are not? Those are different products. Strong where you are. If the wish is that the fragrance is properly there at the bedside, at the desk, in the car, in a hotel room - or that one device follows you between them - that is the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999. It is waterless, cordless and rechargeable on a 2000 mAh battery, it cold-diffuses pure undiluted oil with no water, no dilution and no white dust, and it arrives with three hotel-inspired blends. It is a personal-space diffuser and we publish no room-coverage figure for it. Even across the whole room. If the wish is that you open the bedroom door and the room smells of something, that is an ultrasonic, which is the machine actually designed for rooms - and it costs less. A Boond at ₹899 with one bottle of the water-based Hotel Collection at ₹299 is ₹1,198 all in; a Sukoon at ₹1,899 with the same bottle is ₹2,198. That is ₹2,801 less than the Safar for the Boond route, and it is the right answer, so it is the one we give. Its honest trade, in our own words: an ultrasonic mixes oil with water, which adds humidity and can dilute the scent, and in hard-water areas it can leave a fine white dust. And keep the reed. Your reed diffuser from ₹749 is not being replaced; it is being joined. Tell us your room size and where you sit on WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 and we will place you honestly. Made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: strong where you sit or sleep is the waterless Safar at ₹3,999; the whole room evenly is an ultrasonic - Boond ₹899 plus Hotel Collection ₹299 is ₹1,198, which is cheaper and correct for a bedroom. Keep the reed from ₹749. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The honest ladder in one line: keep the reed diffuser from ₹749 for ambience near where it stands; an ultrasonic from ₹899 with the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299 when you want the whole room, water trade-offs and all; the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999, waterless and cordless, when you want it strong and true in the space you actually sit in; the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 when the space is large or open-plan. Which kind of reach you actually mean, and what each one costs

Two meanings of one word, the price of each, and what happens to the bottle you already own.

Why this happens in your room
Reach is two different wishes with two different price tags
1Strong where you sit or sleep: the waterless Safar, Rs 3,999, personal space2The whole room evenly: Boond Rs 899 plus Hotel Collection Rs 299 = Rs 1,1983Rs 1,198 is Rs 2,801 less than Rs 3,999, and it is the room-designed machine4Keep the reed from Rs 749 - it is still the right thing for a small room
Keep the reed where it already works, from ₹749. If you want the whole room, an ultrasonic from ₹899 with the water-based Hotel Collection is the honest and cheaper first upgrade. If you want it strong and true right where you sit or sleep, the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 is waterless and cordless.
1
First
Reach is not one wish. It is two, and they point at different shelves
When someone tells us they want more reach, they usually mean one of two things and have never had to separate them, because a reed diffuser gives so little of either that the distinction never came up. The first version is intensity where you are. You lie down, you sit at your desk, you get into the car, and you want the fragrance to be properly present at that spot rather than something you have to lean toward. The second version is evenness across the room. You want to walk in through the bedroom door and have the whole space smell of it, including the far corner you never sit in. Those sound like the same complaint and they are not. The first is about concentration in a small volume you occupy; the second is about distribution across a large volume you mostly do not. A reed diffuser is passive and delivers a modest amount of both, which is why the two blur together while it is the only thing you own. The moment you go shopping they come apart, because one is answered by a waterless personal diffuser and the other by a room machine that costs less than half as much. Work out which sentence is yours before you look at a single price.
Tip: say your wish out loud: strong where I am, or even where I am not. The rest follows from that.
2
Second
The cheaper answer is the room answer, and we are not going to pretend otherwise
If your sentence is the second one - the whole bedroom, evenly - then the honest recommendation is the least expensive active machine we sell, and it is not close. An ultrasonic breaks fragrance and water into a fine cool mist and pushes it out into the room, which is exactly the mechanism that even coverage requires: something has to carry scent away from the source, because nothing in a passive bottle ever will. A Boond is ₹899. A 15ml bottle of the water-based Hotel Collection is ₹299. Add those by hand and you have ₹1,198, which is the entire cost of turning one ordinary bedroom into a room that smells of something. A Sukoon at ₹1,899 with the same ₹299 bottle comes to ₹2,198 and gives you a larger tank for longer unattended runs. Compare either against ₹3,999 and the arithmetic is uncomfortable for us and useful for you: ₹3,999 minus ₹1,198 is ₹2,801 of difference, spent on a device that was never built to fill a room. There are two honest caveats on the ultrasonic, and they come from our own product copy: it mixes oil with water, so it adds humidity to the room and can dilute the scent, and in a hard-water area it can leave a fine white dust on nearby surfaces. Neither of those makes it the wrong machine for a bedroom. They are simply what you are agreeing to.
3
Third
Nothing you buy has to cost you the diffuser you already like
The quiet worry underneath this question is usually that buying something new is an admission that the first purchase was a mistake. It was not. A reed diffuser does a specific and rather elegant thing: it holds oil, the reeds draw it up, and it releases fragrance slowly and silently into the air immediately around it for about 6 to 10 weeks, with no electricity, no water, no noise and no maintenance beyond turning the sticks. In a bathroom, a powder room, a study, a guest bedroom, a wardrobe corner or on an entry console where people pass within arm's length, that is not a compromise - it is the best-suited product in our range, and an active machine in the same spot would be overkill. So the practical move for most readers is addition, not replacement. Put the reed where its strengths are free: a small enclosed room with little air movement, or the surface people walk past. Then add the active device that answers your actual sentence, whether that is an ultrasonic from ₹899 for the room or the waterless Safar at ₹3,999 for the space you personally occupy. Two tools, two jobs, no regret about either.
Tip: buy the second tool, keep the first one, and give each the room that suits it.
The SOSA principle
The word reach is doing two jobs at once. Strong where you are, and even where you are not, are different purchases - and the second one is the cheaper of the two.
A personal-space diffuser concentrates scent in the volume you occupy. A room machine distributes it across the volume you do not. Naming the wish names the product.

Start where you already are. Reed diffusers from ₹749 are passive: Morning Freshness ₹749, Garden Bloom ₹799, Evening Calm ₹799, Mountain Breeze ₹849 and Fresh Brew ₹849, with 130ml sizes from ₹1,249. They give you ambience near where the bottle stands, with no power, no noise and nothing that can fail, and they are still the right product for a bathroom, a bedside table, a study or a guest room. If you want the room itself to smell of it, that needs an active diffuser: Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899 or Megh ₹3,499 running the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299 (100ml refill ₹999, or the Pack of 7 at 15ml for ₹1,799). That is the honest first upgrade for a single ordinary bedroom, and it costs less than the Safar. Its trade-off, in our own words: an ultrasonic mixes the fragrance with water, which adds humidity to the room, can dilute the scent, and in hard-water areas can leave a fine white dust on nearby surfaces. If you would rather have no water at all and want the scent strong and true in the space you actually occupy, the SOSA Safar ₹3,999 is waterless, cordless and rechargeable, diffusing pure undiluted oil by cold diffusion. For a large room or a connected open-plan space, the SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 is the genuine whole-space answer at approximately 1000m³ of connected volume, and it is honestly more machine than a small bedroom needs.

The SOSA edit, passive to active

Whatever your room looks like, the logic is the same, and it has nothing to do with how big or smart your home is. A passive reed gives you scent near where it stands, and that is genuinely the right answer for a bathroom, a bedside table, a study or a guest room. An active diffuser moves scent into the air instead of waiting for the air to come and collect it, which is the only thing that turns "lovely next to the bottle" into "the room smells of it". Every SOSA product is made in India, cruelty-free and vegan, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is where each one honestly belongs.

Honest notes before you spend anything. A reed diffuser is passive, and its scent is strongest at the bottle. That is the mechanism working, not a fault, and not a sign you bought the wrong thing: oil climbs the reeds and evaporates, and nothing in the design pushes that scent across a room. More reeds increase evaporation, not reach. Adding sticks makes the air near the bottle stronger and empties the bottle faster; it adds no force to carry fragrance to the other side of the room, so you get a more intense spot and a shorter-lived diffuser. Placement optimises a passive system but cannot make it active. Moving the bottle out of a direct draught, away from an open window, up to roughly seated-nose height rather than on the floor, and into the part of the room you actually use, all genuinely help - and none of them convert passive diffusion into active diffusion. Ventilation and cleaning come first. If a room smells stale, damp or of last night's cooking, open it, air it and clean it; fragrance laid on top of that only makes a more complicated smell, and it never substitutes for either. Homes are shared. Households include children, elderly relatives, pregnant family members and pets, all of whom breathe this air far longer than a visitor does, so gentle dosing is the default and the settings we suggest are lower than any machine can run. Anyone reporting a headache is a recalibration signal, not a complaint to argue with: turn it down or turn it off, and tell us. The Safar and the Vaayu run waterless oil and each ship with their own blends; the Hotel Collection bottle is water-based and belongs in the ultrasonic machines only, and the two formats are not interchangeable. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. A note from Sonal

There is a difference between a fragrance being good and a fragrance reaching you, and almost nobody is told what it is. When someone writes to me and says the reed diffuser smells wonderful up close but they cannot smell it from the bed, my first answer is always the same: nothing is wrong, and you did not buy the wrong thing. A reed diffuser is a passive object. It holds oil, the reeds draw it up, the room's warmth and air take it away at their own pace. It has no way of carrying scent to you, and it was never built to.

So the real question is not which fragrance is stronger. It is which job you want done. If you want a quiet, pleasant presence in the corner of a bathroom or beside a bed, a reed is still the most elegant thing I sell, and I would rather you kept it than replaced it. If you want the whole room to smell of something when you walk in, that needs a machine that actively moves scent into the air, and the honest first step there is one of our ultrasonics, which costs less than our waterless diffuser does. If you want it strong and true right where you sit or sleep, with no water and no dilution, that is the Safar. And if your living space is genuinely large or open-plan, that is the Vaayu, which I will happily tell you is far too much machine for a 10 by 12 bedroom.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and I have had this conversation hundreds of times, and I would much rather talk someone out of a purchase than sell them a disappointment. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with your room's approximate size and a line about where you actually sit or sleep in it - the bed, the desk, the sofa, the corner you read in - and we will tell you which of these you need, including when the answer is none of them. I read those messages myself. Everything is made in India, cruelty-free and vegan, and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your room gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom.

Frequently asked questions

Will a second reed diffuser give me more reach for less money?
It gives you a second pool of fragrance rather than more reach, so it is worth knowing that before you spend. Two passive bottles produce two zones, each strongest at its own bottle and each fading outward, with the middle of the room still thin, because neither bottle has any way of carrying scent to the other. Two reeds at Rs 749 each is Rs 1,498, which is actually Rs 300 more than a Boond at Rs 899 with a Hotel Collection bottle at Rs 299, and the Boond is an active machine that does the distribution job. There is one case where the second reed is genuinely right: when you have two separate spots you occupy, such as a bedside and a reading chair, and you want a pleasant presence at both rather than a scented room. If that is you, buy it happily. If you want to open the door and smell the room, buy the machine.
Can I run my reed diffuser oil in an ultrasonic to save money?
No, and this is one of the few hard lines in our range. The reed diffuser oil is formulated to travel up reeds and evaporate; it is not the water-based Hotel Collection and it does not belong in an ultrasonic tank. The Hotel Collection at Rs 299 for 15ml is the water-based fragrance made for the Boond, Sukoon and Megh, with a 100ml refill at Rs 999 and a Pack of 7 at 15ml for Rs 1,799 if you would like to try the whole range. In the other direction the same applies: the Hotel Collection bottle never goes into a Safar or a Vaayu, because those are waterless machines that run pure undiluted oil and each arrive with their own blends included. Three formats, three fragrance types, no swapping. If you are unsure which bottle goes with which machine, message us before you pour anything.
How do I know whether my bedroom is an ultrasonic room or a Vaayu room?
Measure the air, not the floor, and then look for the nearest closed door. A 10 by 12 bedroom is 120 sq ft, and under a 10 ft ceiling that is 1,200 cubic feet, or about 34 cubic metres once you divide by 35.3. A larger 150 sq ft bedroom is 1,500 cubic feet, about 42 cubic metres. Both of those are ultrasonic rooms, comfortably, and the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 covers approximately 1000 cubic metres of connected volume, which is roughly thirty times a 34 cubic metre bedroom. We would be embarrassed to sell it for that. Where the Vaayu earns its price is a large room or a genuinely open plan where living, dining, kitchen and passage share one volume with no doors between them. If your bedroom door closes, you are in ultrasonic territory and the Rs 1,198 route is the sensible start.
Does the Safar work in a bedroom at all, then?
It works beautifully in the part of the bedroom you occupy, which for almost everyone is the bed. Placed on a bedside table it gives you strong, true, undiluted scent right where you lie, with no water tank, no mist, no cable and nothing to top up, which is exactly what a lot of people mean when they say they cannot smell their reed from the bed. What we will not tell you is how many square feet it covers, because no such figure is published for it and inventing one would be dishonest. So the fair way to put it is this: the Safar is excellent at the bedside and not designed to fill the far corner of the room, and if the far corner is what bothers you then an ultrasonic is both the right tool and the cheaper one. Many people who travel or drive a lot buy the Safar precisely because it does not stay in the bedroom.
What if I want both the room scented and something strong by the bed?
Then buy both, and buy them in the order that matches your day. A Boond at Rs 899 with a Hotel Collection bottle at Rs 299 comes to Rs 1,198 and handles the room; the Safar at Rs 3,999 handles the bedside and travels to the desk or the car when you do. Together that is Rs 5,197, which is a real amount of money, so we would usually suggest starting with whichever wish is louder and living with it for a few weeks before adding the second. Most people find one of the two wishes was actually the whole complaint. Keep the reed running in the bathroom or the study throughout, because it costs nothing to run and it is doing its job perfectly well there. If you want a second opinion on the order, WhatsApp us your room size and we will give you one.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the passive-versus-active reasoning applies to any brand's products.

Facts verified August 2026: A reed diffuser is a passive system - oil travels up the reeds by capillary action and evaporates at the rate the room's temperature and air movement allow, so concentration is highest at the bottle and falls away with distance. A SOSA reed diffuser lasts about 6 to 10 weeks. Reed prices: Morning Freshness ₹749, Garden Bloom ₹799, Evening Calm ₹799, Mountain Breeze ₹849, Fresh Brew ₹849; 130ml sizes from ₹1,249. An active diffuser adds energy to move fragrance into the air. SOSA's ultrasonic machines are Boond (₹899), Sukoon (₹1,899) and Megh 6L (₹3,499); they run the water-based SOSA Hotel Collection, 15ml ₹299, 100ml refill ₹999, Pack of 7 at 15ml ₹1,799. An ultrasonic mixes fragrance with water, which adds humidity to the room, can dilute the scent, and in hard-water areas can leave white dust. The SOSA Safar (₹3,999) is a waterless, cordless, rechargeable cold-diffusion perfume diffuser with a 2000 mAh battery, diffusing pure undiluted oil with no water and no white dust; SOSA's own copy lists it as best for car, handbag, work desk, bedside, hotel and travel, work-from-home and gifting. It ships with three hotel-inspired waterless blends, chosen as one of three bundles: Ritz-Carlton Inspired, Westin Inspired and 1 Hotels Inspired; St. Regis Inspired, Shangri-La Inspired and Four Seasons Inspired; or W Hotels Inspired, Ritz-Carlton Inspired and Westin Inspired. No square-foot or cubic-metre coverage figure is published for the Safar, so none is stated here or anywhere else by us; it is a personal-space diffuser, not a whole-room machine. The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air system covering approximately 1000m³ of connected volume, with a Bluetooth app and timer, and it ships with four hotel-inspired waterless blends included in the box. Format distinction: the Safar and the Vaayu run waterless oil and each arrive with their own blends, while the ₹299 Hotel Collection bottle is water-based and goes into the ultrasonic machines only. The two formats are not interchangeable. Scent perception is personal and varies between people in the same room, and coverage figures assume connected air volume rather than closed doors. Ventilation and cleaning come first; fragrance is an addition to a well-kept room and never a substitute for either, and we make no health, therapeutic or air-purification claims. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any hotel brand. Made in India, cruelty-free and vegan. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Questions about a specific room are answered on WhatsApp: +91 96192 18531.
