The instinct in a two-floor 5BHK is one machine per floor, and it is an expensive instinct. Your house already has a vertical distribution system running through the middle of it, moving air upward continuously, for free, since the day it was built. Use it properly and the upper landing takes care of itself. Here is exactly where the unit goes, what arrives upstairs, and what the stair genuinely cannot do for you.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I get fragrance to travel upstairs in a 5BHK villa? Place the machine low, inside the connected ground-floor volume, near the base of the stairs rather than in a far corner. Warm air rises, so a stair void behaves like a chimney and carries fine airborne fragrance up to the landing on its own. Low placement matters because it puts the output at the bottom of the convection current where it can be picked up, while a unit on a high shelf mostly scents the ceiling beside it. Keep it out of the direct blast of a split air-conditioner, which would throw the output sideways and defeat the climb. One SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 covers approximately 1000 cubic metres of connected air, which in a two-floor 5BHK is typically about 482 cubic metres including the void and landing.

Do I need a machine on each floor of a 5BHK? Not if the stairs are open. An open stair void makes both floors one connected volume, so one unit placed correctly at the base serves the ground floor and the landing above it. A second machine is justified only when that connection is broken - a door at the top of the stairs, an enclosed stairwell, or a first-floor family lounge behind its own door - because then you genuinely have two separate volumes rather than one. Two machines is Rs 23,998. Before spending that, check placement, air-conditioning draughts and the schedule, since those explain most cases of a thin upper floor. And if you want every upstairs room scented regardless of doors, the ducted Aangan at Rs 25,999 is the only route that delivers it.

Should the upstairs of a villa smell as strong as the ground floor? No, and designing for that is a mistake. The landing receives a diluted version of the ground-floor register because the air has travelled and mixed on the way up, and that is appropriate: a landing outside bedrooms is a quiet transitional space, while the hall downstairs is where arrivals happen and guests stand. Trying to make both identical means overdosing the ground floor, which is precisely how a household ends up with headaches and a house guests describe as strong. The correct pattern is a firm but gentle ground floor, a softer landing, and a reed from Rs 749 inside each upstairs bedroom, where no machine reaches at any setting.
The short answer
Short answer: In a multi-floor 5BHK the stairwell is the distribution route. Place one SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999, waterless, approximately 1000 cubic metres, app and timer, four hotel-inspired blends included) low in the connected ground-floor volume near the stair base, out of any air-conditioning draught, and convection carries the register up the void to the landing. Expect the upstairs to be gentler, which is correct. Each upstairs bedroom is sealed air and takes a reed from Rs 749 or a Boond Rs 899. A second machine is justified only by a door at the top of the stairs. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999, four hotel-inspired blends included in the box) for the connected living volume of a villa; reeds from ₹749 for a single bedroom or bathroom; a single room done properly from ₹899; the Aangan (₹25,999) ducted into central air-conditioning for genuine whole-home coverage.

A villa is not one room, it is a set of connected volumes and a set of closed doors, and the two need different answers. Whole-home scenting means one fragrance held evenly across the part of the house you actually live in - the entrance, the living room, the dining - running on a schedule so it is already there when someone walks through your front door, and already there when you come home yourself. The bedrooms, the guest bathroom and the study get their own quiet solutions. Nobody in the house has to remember anything.
Straight answer
Where does the machine go in a two-floor 5BHK, and what actually reaches the upper floor?
Four placements decisions and one honest limit. 1. Low. Warm air rises, so put the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 at console or shelf height rather than high up - low is where the convection current starts and where the output gets picked up and carried. Waterless cold-air, approximately 1000m³, Bluetooth app and timer, four hotel-inspired waterless blends in the box. 2. Near the stair base. Inside the connected ground-floor volume, within a few metres of where the stairs begin, so the void gets a share rather than the far corner of the dining. 3. Out of the draught, out of a cupboard. A split air-conditioner blowing across the unit throws everything sideways and cancels the climb; a closed cabinet starves it of the air movement it needs. 4. Started early. Vertical distribution takes time - begin the evening block before anyone is home so the landing has settled, not just the hall. 5. The limit. The void delivers to the landing, never through a bedroom door. Five bedrooms take a reed from ₹749 or a Boond ₹899 each; five reeds is ₹3,745, so the house is ₹15,744. A second machine only if a door at the top of the stairs has split the house into two volumes. Every room regardless of doors: the ducted Aangan ₹25,999. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531. Made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: put the Vaayu ₹11,999 low near the stair base, let the void carry it to the landing, expect upstairs to be gentler, and give each of the five bedrooms its own ₹749 reed. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The whole-home answer most villa owners land on: the SOSA Vaayu - waterless cold-air scenting to ~1000m³, Bluetooth app and timer, and four hotel-inspired blends included in the box - at ₹11,999. One bedroom or a guest bathroom starts on reeds from ₹749; a single room done properly from ₹899; central air-conditioning from ₹25,999. The stairwell as the distribution route

The route, the placement and the layer the route cannot serve.

Why this works at home
Using a staircase you have already paid for
1Low placement puts the output where the convection current can lift it2Near the stair base, so the void gets a share and not the far corner3Out of the air-conditioning draught, which would cancel the climb entirely4Reeds from Rs 749 upstairs: the void reaches the landing, never a bedroom
The whole-home answer: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, app-scheduled, ~1000m³, and it arrives with four hotel-inspired blends in the box. A single bedroom or guest bathroom starts on reeds from ₹749.
1
The route
A stair void moves air upward whether you use it or not
Every two-floor house has a temperature gradient and a shaft, and together those make a current. Warm air is less dense, so it rises; the stair void is the easiest vertical path in the building; and air moves up through it continuously without anything pushing. That current is running in your house right now. Fine airborne fragrance from a cold-air nebulising machine is light enough to stay suspended and simply goes where the air goes, so it joins the current and arrives on the landing. The practical consequence is that vertical coverage in a villa is not a hardware problem to be solved with a second unit; it is a placement problem, and placement is free. It also explains something owners notice and misread: the upper floor often smells strongest in the evening, when the ground floor has been warm all day and the gradient is at its most active. That is the system working, not a fault. What you should not do is try to force the issue by raising the intensity downstairs, because the ground floor is where people actually sit.
Tip: you are not pushing fragrance upstairs. You are putting it into a current that was already going there.
2
The placement
Low, near the stair base, out of the draught
Four constraints decide the spot and they are usually satisfiable at once. Low: console, shelf or open cabinet height rather than a high ledge, because a unit near the ceiling scents the ceiling and never enters the current properly. Near the stair base: within the connected ground-floor volume and a few metres from where the stairs begin, so the void receives a real share rather than whatever drifts across from the far end of the dining. Out of the draught: a split air-conditioner blowing directly across the machine will throw its output horizontally into one wall and cancel the climb entirely, which is the single most common reason an upstairs landing gets nothing. And in open air rather than shut inside a cabinet, because the unit needs movement around it to disperse at all. In most 5BHK villas that combination lands somewhere near where the entrance opens into the living area, with the staircase in view. If your plan makes that impossible, send it to us on WhatsApp before you buy - a bad spot is a much more common cause of disappointment than an undersized machine.
3
The limit
The void serves the landing, and stops at every door off it
Be clear about the boundary, because it is where the money decisions live. The stair current delivers to the landing and to any first-floor space genuinely open to that landing. It does not deliver into the five bedrooms, because each of those has a door that is closed for eight hours a night, and a closed door is an air barrier rather than a distance. No amount of intensity, and no second machine standing on the landing, changes that - a machine on the landing would simply make the landing stronger. What works inside those rooms is something small in the room: a reed diffuser at ₹749, which needs no power, makes no sound and sits happily beside a sleeping person, or a Boond ₹899 or Sukoon ₹1,899 with the water-based Hotel Collection ₹299 where somebody wants their own control. Five bedrooms is ₹3,745 and the house comes to ₹15,744; add the bathrooms and ten rooms at ₹749 is ₹7,490, so ₹19,489 complete. Keep them in the register family the machine is running so the landing and the bedrooms agree with each other rather than argue at the threshold.
Tip: a machine standing on the landing does not open a bedroom door. It just makes the landing louder.
The SOSA principle
Vertical coverage in a villa is a placement decision, not a second purchase - low, near the stair base, and out of the air-conditioner's way.
The void carries the register to the landing for free. The five doors off that landing are a Rs 749 job each, and always will be.

The SOSA home edit

Whatever the house looks like, the logic is the same: one scent, sized to the volume that is genuinely connected, running on a schedule so nobody in the family has to remember it. A single bedroom or a guest bathroom is happy on reeds with no power at all; the living room you actually live in wants a machine; the whole villa with central air-conditioning wants the ducts doing the work. Every SOSA system is made in India, cruelty-free and vegan, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is where each one belongs.

Honest notes before you buy anything. Coverage ratings assume connected air volume. A machine cannot push scent through a closed bedroom door, and it never will - so a partitioned villa is not one scenting problem but several, and honest sizing means saying so out loud rather than selling you one machine and hoping. Scent the volume that is genuinely open to itself, then give the closed rooms their own quiet answer, usually a reed diffuser. Fragrance never substitutes for ventilation or cleaning. If a room smells damp, stale or of last night's cooking, open it, air it and clean it first; scent added on top of that only makes a more complicated bad smell. A home is not a lobby you pass through. Households include children, elderly parents, pregnant family members and pets, all of whom breathe this air far longer than any visitor does, which is why gentle dosing is the default at home and why the settings we suggest are lower than the machine can run. Anyone in the house reporting a headache is a recalibration signal, not a complaint to argue with - turn it down or turn it off, and tell us. The Vaayu runs waterless nebulising oil and comes with the four hotel-inspired blends; the Hotel Collection bottle is water-based and belongs in the ultrasonic machines only. The two formats are not interchangeable. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. ISIPCA
Versailles
A note from Sonal

There is a difference between a room that smells nice and a home that has a signature, and almost nobody is told what it is. A room that smells nice is an event: you light a candle, you spray something in the hallway before people arrive, it is lovely for forty minutes and then it is gone. Somewhere else in the house a bathroom gel is doing one thing, a kitchen spray another, and a bedroom reed a third. Four pleasant smells in four rooms is not a fragranced home. It is four rooms.

A signature is the opposite. It is one scent, sized to the house, running on a schedule - so it is already in the air when someone walks through your front door, and already there at eleven at night when you come home yourself, and nobody has lifted a finger to make it happen. That is the whole trick the great hotels use, and it is not complicated: they do not chase smells room by room, they hold one fragrance across the volume people actually move through. In a villa that usually means the entrance, the living room and the dining as one connected space, with the closed rooms handled separately and quietly.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and I have sized this for houses across India, and I would rather tell you honestly that your layout needs two answers than sell you one machine that disappoints you. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with your home's approximate size, the number of floors and a line about the layout - open plan, closed rooms, central air-conditioning or split units - and we will give you a free sizing recommendation. I read those descriptions myself. Everything is made in India, cruelty-free and vegan, and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your home gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take for the fragrance to reach the upper landing?
Longer than the hall, which is the main practical reason to start the schedule early rather than to raise the setting. Convection is a steady, gentle process rather than a fan pushing air, so the ground floor evens out first and the landing follows. In a typical two-floor 5BHK, running the evening block from well before the family is home gives the whole vertical volume time to settle, which is exactly the quality people read as luxurious. If you start fifteen minutes before guests arrive you will get a scented hall and a landing that has barely changed. Judge the result properly: come in from outside after several hours away and walk straight upstairs while your nose is still fresh, rather than deciding at ten at night when you have been living in the air since six.
Does running the air-conditioning upstairs stop the fragrance arriving?
It changes the currents, and occasionally it reverses them, which is worth checking rather than assuming. Air-conditioning cools air, cool air sinks, and a hard-running split unit on the landing can set up a downward flow that works against the stair current. It is rarely a total blockage, but it can turn a gentle arrival into nothing much. Two easy checks. First, make sure the ground-floor unit is not sitting in the direct blast of a split air-conditioner, since that is the more common problem and it throws the output sideways before it ever reaches the stairs. Second, if the upstairs landing is being conditioned hard for hours, try starting the schedule earlier and see whether the result changes. If the house has ducted central air-conditioning rather than splits, the far better answer is to scent through the ducts with the Aangan at Rs 25,999.
Our 5BHK has three floors including a terrace room. Does the stair logic still hold?
It holds well for two floors and starts to thin out beyond that. Each additional level means more mixing, more dilution and a longer path, so what arrives on a second landing is fainter again, and by the third floor the honest expectation is very little. If that top level is a terrace room, a guest suite or a home office that is genuinely used, treat it as its own problem rather than hoping: a Boond at Rs 899 or a Sukoon at Rs 1,899 with the water-based Hotel Collection from Rs 299 handles a single room properly, and a reed at Rs 749 works if you simply want it pleasant with nothing to switch on. A second Vaayu makes sense only if that upper level has its own genuine connected volume - a landing, a sitting area and a passage together - rather than a single room.
Should I close the bedroom doors upstairs so the landing holds the scent better?
You do not need to manage the doors for the machine's sake, and it would be the wrong way round anyway. Open bedroom doors are good news, not a leak: an open door briefly makes that room part of the connected volume, so it picks up a gentler version of the house register while it is open. Nothing meaningful is being lost from the landing by that exchange. The pattern in most Indian households runs on its own and it is fine - doors open through the afternoon, shut by night - which means the rooms are scented when nobody is in them and unscented when people are, and that is precisely the gap a reed at Rs 749 in each room quietly fills. Manage the doors for how your family lives; let the layers handle the fragrance.
Is the Vaayu safe and sensible to leave running with children upstairs?
The approach we recommend at home is gentler than most people expect, and it starts with the setting rather than the placement. Run the machine well below what it is capable of, aim for a level a guest reads as atmosphere rather than as fragrance, and keep the house ventilated as a matter of routine regardless. We make no health, therapeutic or air-purification claims for anything we sell. Practical points for a family house: keep the unit low but out of the reach of small children and away from where anyone sits for hours, run the schedule in blocks with the overnight hours off, and remember that what arrives upstairs is already a diluted version of the ground floor. Scent perception varies enormously between people in the same house, so anyone reporting a headache or irritation is a signal to turn it down or off in that area, not something to talk them out of.
