The specification table is the one piece of furniture in an appliance showroom where somebody holds two things a hand apart and chooses between them. A veneer against a lacquer. A brushed steel against a graphite. The air over that table should be the faintest air on the floor, and you get that by where you put the machine, not by how you turn it.

And nothing is ever placed on the table or beside it: no reed among the samples, no small diffuser on the plinth next to it, no machine on the wall behind it. Strength at the table is the last of five decisions, not the first. Here they are in the order they should be taken, with the dial at the end where it belongs.

The zero point
Draw the gradient: machine at one end, table at the other
Every scented floor has a gradient - strongest near the source, faintest at the far end of the air path - and the only question on a floor with specification tables is which end the tables are at. Put them at the faint end, on purpose. Take the floor plan, mark the AC supply and returns, mark every specification table, and draw a line from the wall furthest from the tables along the supply path to the tables themselves. The machine goes at the start of that line. If the line has to pass through a live kitchen or a demo theatre, the plan needs another wall. If the tables are spread around the floor so that no wall is far from all of them, group them; a floor cannot have two zero points. Rule: the table is the far end of the air path. Choose the wall so that it is.

Nothing on it, nothing beside it, nothing on the wall behind it
The three wrong places are all popular. A reed diffuser on the table looks like an object that belongs there and is the worst place on the floor for one: it puts the source among the samples, at close range at the moment of closest attention, and it gets picked up. A small diffuser on the plinth beside the table is the same mistake a metre away. A machine on the wall behind the table, because that is where the socket is, puts the table at the loud end of the gradient and no setting on the dial fixes it. The rule for the table and everything within arm's reach of it is: no source. The samples must carry no fragrance when held close, and the person at the table for an hour must not be able to name the air. In a small studio that means the Mountain Breeze reed lives at the reception desk at the other end, not on the table. The consultation area is the same rule for a sideboard and two chairs.
Test: pick up a sample board that has sat on the table for a morning and smell it. If you can name the floor, the source is too close or too high.

A sample board is not a hob. It is card, timber veneer, laminate, sometimes fabric-backed, and those materials hold fragrance far better than the steel and glass the rest of the floor is made of. An hour in a scented zone loads them; a week does more. That is the practical reason the table sits at the zero point and the register is the driest available: cedar, sage and tea leave less on card than anything sweet or amber-forward, and a dry lemon-and-mint on a white sample wall - Morning Freshness - behaves the same way. Keep the sample boards in a drawer or a case when not in use rather than fanned on the table all day. Only after the wall is right - step down until an hour at the table passes
With the machine on the correct wall, the dial does the last ten percent. Sit at the specification table for an hour on a normal afternoon with the AC running and try to name the air at the end. If you can, step the Vaayu down one setting and repeat the next day; the right setting is the highest at which the hour passes, and it will be at the low end of the range. Then the key-lock goes on, because the dial is the thing a helpful colleague turns up when the entrance seems plain on a quiet morning. The order matters: a floor that tries to fix a strong table by turning down a machine on the wrong wall ends up with a plain entrance and a still-nameable table. Wall first, then dial, then lock. Rule: if you are turning the dial down to fix the table, the machine is on the wrong wall. Move it, then set it.

The demonstration

Many floors put a specification table near the live kitchen, so a client can watch the hob and then choose it. While the demo runs, the demonstration owns the air: the machine goes off on the timer or with one press before the hob is lit, extraction runs during and after, and the floor's fragrance returns only when the room smells of nothing. A table that sits at the faint end of the gradient is also, ideally, the end nearest the kitchen, so that extraction pulling toward the hood pulls the last of the fragrance away from the samples rather than across them. Nothing edible is ever in the floor's register, because the hob and the coffee counter own those smells. Scenting the reception without fragrancing the demo area is the placement rule for a floor where kitchen and tables sit together.
Rule: the machine is off on the timer while the hob is lit. The table beside the kitchen gets extraction, not fragrance, until the room smells of nothing.

When I visit an appliance floor I go to the specification table first, pick up a sample board and smell it. It tells me more than the entrance does. If the board smells of the floor, the source is too close to the table or too high, and usually both, and usually because the machine went where the socket was. The table is where somebody holds a veneer twenty centimetres from their face and decides. The air there should be the faintest on the floor, and the samples should smell of themselves. I think of the table as the zero point and I choose the wall for the machine so that it is.
That is why the mount on the Vaayu matters more here than the dial.
