Here the answer changes, and a page that told you otherwise would be selling you a disappointment. A 5,000 sq ft villa at a normal ceiling height is roughly 1,415 cubic metres of air against a machine rated to about 1000, so one unit does not cover it - and the volume is only half the reason. A villa is almost never one connected volume of air in the first place. It is two or three floors joined by a staircase, a wing the buyer sees at the end of the walk, and a set of doors that are usually shut. Sizing a villa for a viewing is a zoning exercise, not a coverage calculation.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I scent a 5,000 sq ft villa for a viewing? Start with the volume: 5,000 sq ft at a 10 ft ceiling is 5,000 x 10 = 50,000 cubic feet, and 50,000 / 35.3 = about 1,415 cubic metres. A SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is rated to roughly 1000 cubic metres of connected air, so one unit does not cover a villa of this size, and SOSA's own 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft figure says the same thing more plainly. The practical answer is zoning: two units placed by zone rather than by floor area, usually one in the ground-floor living and dining volume and one on the upper landing, plus reed diffusers from Rs 749 in the bedrooms that stay closed. Where the villa has ducted HVAC and the owner wants permanent scenting, SOSA Aangan at Rs 25,999 covers approximately 8,000 to 10,000 sq ft through the duct system.

Is one Vaayu enough for a 5,000 sq ft villa? No, and the arithmetic is not close: about 1,415 cubic metres against a rating of roughly 1000 is about forty per cent over. Turning one unit up does not solve it either, because the constraint in a villa is not output but distribution - fragrance moves on the house's own air currents, and it does not travel up a staircase, along a first-floor passage and into a far bedroom in the time you have before a buyer arrives. Two units placed in two zones will outperform one unit at any setting, and will do it at a lower perceived intensity in each room, which is what you want in a viewing anyway.

Should I buy the HVAC system for a villa instead of two machines? Only when three things are true: the villa has a genuine ducted air-conditioning system with return air, the owner is committing to permanent scenting rather than a handful of viewings, and somebody is allowed to install into that system. SOSA Aangan at Rs 25,999 covers approximately 8,000 to 10,000 sq ft and is the right answer for a scented residence or a permanently staged property. For a broker preparing a specific villa for a specific appointment, freestanding units you can carry in, plug in and pack down are usually the practical choice, because most Indian villas run split air conditioners per room and there is no duct to scent through.
The short answer
Short answer: A 5,000 sq ft villa at a 10 ft ceiling is 50,000 cubic feet, which is 50,000 / 35.3 = about 1,415 cubic metres - roughly forty per cent past the SOSA Vaayu's approximately 1000 cubic metre rating, so one unit does not cover it. Zone it instead: two Vaayu units at Rs 11,999 each, one in the ground-floor living and dining volume and one on the upper landing, with reed diffusers from Rs 749 in bedrooms that stay closed. Where there is ducted HVAC and the owner wants permanent scenting, SOSA Aangan at Rs 25,999 covers approximately 8,000 to 10,000 sq ft. A villa is never one connected volume, so size by zone rather than by total area. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Every customer-facing space hosts two audiences at once: the customer who forms an opinion in a single visit, and the staff who breathe that air for eight hours. Commercial scenting serves both with one move - a single refined fragrance, held evenly from the entrance to the far end of the floor, running on a schedule nobody has to remember. Customers experience it as "this brand has itself together"; the team gets premises that smell composed from opening to close.
Straight answer
My listing is a 5,000 sq ft villa. How many machines, and where do they go?
Two answers depending on who is paying and for how long. 1. The arithmetic, so nobody sells you one unit. 5,000 x 10 = 50,000 cu ft; 50,000 / 35.3 = 1,416, call it about 1,415m³. A SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is rated to approximately 1000m³ of connected air and SOSA's own figure is one unit to 2,000-3,000 sq ft. A 5,000 sq ft villa is past both. 2. But volume is the smaller problem. A villa is not one connected volume of air. It is a ground floor, a staircase, an upper floor and often a terrace level, with doors on most of the rooms. Even if a single machine were rated to 1,415m³, it would still be scenting the room it stands in and struggling to reach a first-floor bedroom behind a closed door. Every coverage rating in the industry assumes connected air, and a villa is the property type where that assumption breaks first. 3. The broker's answer: zone it. Two units, placed by zone rather than by area - one in the ground-floor living and dining volume where the buyer arrives and lingers, one on the upper landing where the bedroom passage begins. Add reed diffusers from ₹749 in bedrooms and bathrooms that stay closed, placed days ahead so they have opened up. 4. The owner's answer: HVAC, if there is HVAC. SOSA Aangan at ₹25,999 nebulises into a ducted system and covers approximately 8,000-10,000 sq ft. It is right for a permanently scented residence or a long-staged property, and it is only possible where genuine ducting with return air exists - not where the villa runs split units room by room. 5. Under-dose in both cases. A large empty villa that smells strongly of fragrance is the single fastest way to make a buyer wonder what a 5,000 sq ft house is hiding. Quiet registers, low settings, started well before the appointment: the Ritz-Carlton-inspired white tea, bergamot and cedar, or the 1 Hotels-inspired cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves in a concrete-and-timber house. SOSA's blends are its own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is not affiliated with any hotel brand. Fragrance never substitutes for airing, cleaning or fixing what is actually wrong. One line: 5,000 x 10 = 50,000 cu ft = about 1,415m³ against a ~1000m³ rating, so one unit is not the answer - two Vaayu units at ₹11,999 zoned, reeds from ₹749 in closed bedrooms, or Aangan at ₹25,999 where there is real ducted HVAC. Registers from ₹299. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Past one unit, and past one volume of air

Three parts: the volume arithmetic that rules one unit out, the reason a villa is never one volume of air anyway, and how a broker actually sets up a house this size for a ninety-minute appointment.

Why this works
Sizing a villa by zone instead of by square feet
15,000 sq ft x 10 ft = 50,000 cu ft; 50,000 / 35.3 = about 1,415 cubic metres2That is roughly 40 per cent past one Vaayu's approximately 1000 cubic metre rating3A villa is floors and closed doors, not one connected volume - so zone it4Two units by zone, reeds from Rs 749 in closed rooms, or Aangan at Rs 25,999
The commercial standard: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, app-scheduled, ~1000m³ coverage. Single rooms start on reeds from ₹749.
1
The arithmetic
Where the number puts you, precisely
5,000 sq ft at a 10 ft ceiling: 5,000 x 10 = 50,000 cu ft, and 50,000 / 35.3 = 1,416.4, which everyone in this trade rounds to about 1,415m³. The rounding is irrelevant; the ratio is not. A SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is rated to approximately 1000m³ of connected air, so you are looking at roughly forty per cent more air than one unit is specified to handle, and SOSA's own coverage statement - one unit covers 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft evenly, using the room's natural airflow - reaches the same conclusion from the other direction. Villas also rarely sit at 10 ft. A double-height entrance or living volume at 18 to 20 ft is normal in this segment, and it is worth seeing what that does: if 1,200 sq ft of the ground floor is double-height at 20 ft, that portion alone is 1,200 x 20 = 24,000 cu ft = about 680m³, two thirds of a whole machine's rating spent on one room. Recompute for your actual house rather than accepting the round number. And use the enclosed built-up area you walk on, not the plot area or the super built-up figure, neither of which contains any air you are scenting. The villa size and coverage guide works through the residence version of this in full.
Tip: about 1,415m³ against a ~1000m³ rating - one unit is not a close call here, it is the wrong purchase.
2
Connected air
The reason a bigger single machine would not fix it either
Suppose a machine existed that was rated to 1,500m³. It would still not scent this villa from one position, because coverage ratings describe a volume of connected air and a villa is a set of volumes with doors between them. Ground floor to first floor is joined only by a staircase, and a staircase is a chimney: warm air rises through it and cool air falls, so there is real movement, but it is vertical and slow and it does not distribute fragrance into rooms off a first-floor passage. Bedroom doors are usually shut. Bathrooms have exhaust fans that remove air rather than circulate it. Split air conditioners recirculate each room's own air and connect nothing to anything. The result is a house where a single machine scents the room it stands in properly, the adjoining spaces adequately, the landing weakly and the far bedroom not at all - and a buyer who experiences the ground floor as considered and the upper floor as neutral or closed. That contrast is worse than an unscented house, because it draws attention to the thing you did rather than to the property. The correct mental model is not one house of 1,415m³. It is a ground-floor zone, an upper-floor zone, and a set of small closed boxes, each of which gets its own answer.
3
The set-up
What a broker actually carries into a villa on a Saturday
Two Vaayu units at ₹11,999 each is the honest working configuration for a villa of this size, placed by zone: one in the ground-floor living and dining volume, ideally near where that space meets the entrance and the staircase, and one on the upper landing where the bedroom passage starts. Both are freestanding - they lay flat on a console, a chest of drawers or a landing table - and both are mains powered at DC 12V / 1A, about 5W, so you need a live socket in each of those two positions, which is worth checking on the recce rather than discovering on the day. Start them roughly ninety minutes to two hours before the appointment on low settings, with the internal doors open, and expect the staircase to move some ground-floor scent upwards on its own, which is a reason to run the upper unit lower rather than higher. For bedrooms and bathrooms that will stay closed, reed diffusers from ₹749 on a bedside table or a counter, placed several days ahead so they have opened up, are usually a better answer than a third machine - no power, no set-up and no pack-down, and they are working on the days you are not there. If the villa is vacant with the supply disconnected, reeds are the only thing that will work at all, which the disconnected-power page covers properly. And if the owner is scenting the house permanently rather than for a handful of appointments, that is the point at which SOSA Aangan at ₹25,999 through a real ducted system becomes the better conversation.
Tip: check for a live socket on the landing during the recce - a villa's upper floor is where set-up plans usually fail.
The SOSA principle
A villa does not fail the coverage test because it is large. It fails because it is many rooms of air with doors between them - and no rating on any box has ever described that.
About 1,415m³ on paper, in practice a ground-floor zone, an upper-floor zone and a set of closed boxes. Size the zones, not the villa.

The SOSA commercial edit

Whatever your business sells, the system logic is the same: one signature, sized to the space, scheduled so it never depends on anyone's memory. A single small room or a consultation corner can sit happily on reeds with no power at all; a customer-facing floor wants the Vaayu; a venue or a flagship wants HVAC. Every SOSA system is supported from India, and the Hotel Collection blends - SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations - run across the powered ones. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the full commercial range.

Honest notes for business owners: scenting compounds a well-run premises and rescues nothing. Ventilation, air-conditioning and cleaning come first, and fragrance never substitutes for hygiene or air quality - if the air is stale, damp or smoky, fix that at the source before any scent goes in. The people most exposed to the fragrance are not your customers but your STAFF, who work eight-hour shifts in it, which is why whisper calibration and locked settings are standard on every SOSA commercial install, and any staff sensitivity report should be treated as a recalibration signal rather than a complaint. Healthcare and wellness spaces need extra restraint: keep scenting to reception and circulation areas, never treatment rooms, and the practitioner's judgement overrides anything in this guide. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. ISIPCA
Versailles
A note from Sonal

I have walked into jewellery showrooms lit like museums, bridal boutiques with hand-embroidered walls, furniture floors styled down to the last cushion, clinics with better art than most galleries - and in almost every one of them, the air was an afterthought. Floor polish, packaging cartons, the phenyl from the morning mopping, the workshop or the loading bay drifting forward. The one thing every customer takes in before they see anything is the thing most businesses leave to chance.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles, where the world's scent-marketing perfumers learn the craft, and what I build for Indian businesses is the same architecture the global hospitality brands use, whatever you sell: one signature, sized to the space, run on a schedule - so the scent is as reliable as your lighting. A consultation corner may only need reeds; a full floor needs the Vaayu; a venue needs the HVAC systems. If you want it applied to your specific premises, message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with the type of space and its approximate size - I read those descriptions myself.

Everything is made or assembled for Indian conditions, supported from Pune - and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your brand gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get away with one machine if I only show the ground floor properly?
Sometimes, and it is a legitimate strategy rather than a compromise, as long as you are honest with yourself about what you are doing. If the buyer's experience is genuinely concentrated on the ground floor - the entrance, the living and dining volume, the kitchen and the garden doors - and the upper floor is a quick walk-through, then one unit in the ground-floor zone plus reed diffusers from Rs 749 upstairs is a proportionate set-up for a 5,000 sq ft villa. What does not work is scenting the ground floor properly and leaving the upper floor to look after itself, because the contrast is noticeable in exactly the wrong direction: the buyer registers the difference between a considered ground floor and a closed, neutral first floor, and closed and neutral is how a bedroom reads when it has been shut for a week. Something quiet in every room the buyer enters beats a strong ground floor and nothing above it.
What about a double-height living room in the villa?
Recompute it separately, because it eats coverage faster than anything else in the house. Take a 1,200 sq ft double-height living volume at 20 ft: 1,200 x 20 = 24,000 cubic feet, and 24,000 / 35.3 = about 680 cubic metres, which is more than two thirds of one machine's entire rating for a single room. The second issue is behavioural rather than arithmetical: in a tall room, warm air and the fragrance with it rise and sit in the upper volume, so a buyer standing at floor level may smell very little while a considerable amount of scent is stacked above their head. The response is not to increase the setting, which fills the ceiling void faster. It is to place the unit low, run it earlier, and accept that a double-height room takes longer to reach an even state than a normal one. The section on double-height villa viewings goes into this further.
Two Vaayu units or one Aangan for a villa this size?
It depends on whether you are preparing a listing or scenting a home. Two SOSA Vaayu units at Rs 11,999 each are portable, need only a socket, can be set up and packed down for each appointment, and can be moved to your next listing when this one sells - which is exactly what a broker needs. SOSA Aangan at Rs 25,999 covers approximately 8,000 to 10,000 sq ft through a ducted HVAC system and is a fixed installation into that system: the right answer when the owner wants the house permanently scented, when there is genuine ducting with return air, and when somebody is authorised to install into it. Most Indian villas run split air conditioners room by room, which means there is no duct to scent through at all. Check what the house actually has before this becomes a price comparison - WhatsApp us on +91 96192 18531 with the details and we will tell you which side of the line you are on.
The villa is furnished and staged. Does that change the sizing?
It does not change the volume, and it does change the behaviour in your favour. A furnished villa has curtains, rugs, upholstery, mattresses and bed linen, all of which absorb fragrance and release it slowly, so the air holds its character for longer between machine cycles and the house feels more consistent from room to room. An empty villa has hard floors, bare walls, high echo and nothing to hold anything, so scent disperses and dissipates faster and the flat, closed quality of unused air is more obvious. The sizing arithmetic is identical - about 1,415 cubic metres either way - but a staged villa is a more forgiving property to scent, and an empty one wants a longer lead time and a steadier low level rather than a stronger setting. Neither situation is improved by a fragrance a buyer can name.
The villa smells musty on the ground floor. Should I scent harder there?
No. That is the one instruction in this section we will not give under any circumstances. A musty smell in a villa is information: it usually means moisture, and moisture in a large house means seepage through an external wall, a terrace or balcony detail, a bathroom above, a leaking line, poor drainage around the plinth, or a basement or store that has never been dried out properly. The sequence is to open the house up and cross-ventilate for as long as you can get, clean it, find the actual source, have the owner repair and disclose it, and only then present the property. Fragrance laid over must does not delete the must - it sits alongside it and produces a combined smell buyers find worse and more suspicious than the original. Nothing on our price list is the correct response to a damp villa, and a broker who scents over one is storing up a problem for the transaction, not solving one.

Editorial standards & sources
About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA commercial range; the scent-marketing strategy advice applies to any business's systems.

Facts verified August 2026: Ambient scent research consistently associates pleasant, congruent scenting with improved evaluations of a space and its service, longer dwell time and stronger brand recall at moderate effect sizes; congruence (scent matching the setting) and gentle intensity outperform strong scenting in replicated studies, and no scent effect survives poor ventilation, poor cleaning or poor indoor air quality. Olfactory memory is unusually durable: scent-linked brand memories persist and retrieve for years, which is the mechanism behind signature scents. Staff exposure is the design constraint, since employees breathe the fragrance for full shifts: whisper calibration, locked settings and sensitivity accommodations are standard practice, and healthcare and wellness settings call for extra restraint. SOSA systems: alcohol-free reed diffusers from ₹749 for single rooms with no power needed; Sukoon 500ml ultrasonic (₹1,899) and Megh 6L ultrasonic (₹3,499) run the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (from ₹299; refills from ₹999, 100ml ₹999); SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebulising machine, ~1000m³ coverage, Bluetooth app and timer; SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) and SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) are HVAC nebulising systems for approximately 8,000-10,000 and 12,000-18,000 sq ft respectively. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Ultrasonic systems run water-based fragrance; the Vaayu and the HVAC systems run waterless nebulising oil - the two formats are not interchangeable. Made in India.
