By sizing for the volume rather than pushing a smaller machine harder. A double-height room is not a room with a high ceiling; it is roughly twice the room.
Quick answers — read this first
How should a double-height living room be scented? By sizing the machine to the air volume, which is length by width by ceiling height. A double-height space holds roughly twice the air of the same floor plan at normal height, so it needs capacity rather than a higher setting.

Why does turning a small machine up not work? It produces a strong concentration near the unit and a weak result across the room, because output raised in an undersized machine increases local intensity rather than filling the volume evenly.

Where should the unit sit? At normal level rather than high, because warm air rises and a source placed high sends fragrance into the unused upper volume. A SOSA Aangan at ₹25,999 suits very large volumes, from ₹299.
The short answer
Short answer: Size for volume, not floor area. Height is half the calculation, and a turned-up small machine makes a hot spot, not a room.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 for a connected living volume up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, the Aangan at ₹25,999 for a very large double-height space, SOSA reed diffusers from ₹749 for bedrooms and studies, on Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299.
Sizing? WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with room volumes including ceiling heights, which spaces are open to each other, courtyard layout, and where power points can still be added - remote sizing from your own measurements, no site visit needed outside Pune.
How SOSA sizes a commercial space - the order that actually worksStep 1 - find the source: solvents, sanitiser, footwear, drains, AC filters, stale airStep 2 - draw the air volume, not the floor plan: doors and partitions divide itStep 3 - decide which zones stay unscented, and write that downStep 4 - set intensity low and schedule it around your peakStep 5 - re-check after two weeks, then leave it alone
Commercial scenting goes wrong in a predictable order: somebody buys a machine to cover a smell that has a source, puts it where the socket is, runs it at full intensity because day one felt weak, and ends up with a room people comment on for the wrong reason. Source first, air volume second, unscented zones written down third, low intensity and a schedule fourth. This guide walks that sequence, with the real SOSA machine range at each size.
Straight answer
How should a double-height villa living room be scented?
By sizing for the actual air volume, which almost nobody does, and by placing the unit low rather than high. The arithmetic first. Air volume is length times width times ceiling height, so a living room of 600 sq ft at a standard three metres holds roughly 1,800 cubic metres-worth of the calculation, and the same floor plan at six metres holds twice that. A machine specified from the floor area alone is therefore under-specified by half in a double-height space, which is the single commonest sizing error in large Jaipur homes. Why raising the setting does not fix it: an undersized machine at maximum output produces a strong concentration in the air immediately around it and a weak result at the far end of the room, because the limiting factor is capacity relative to the volume rather than intensity at the source. The owner experiences a hot spot near the sofa and nothing by the window, concludes the machine is faulty, and buys a second one - which produces two hot spots and an uneven middle, and consumes twice the fragrance. One volume takes one machine, sized for it. On placement, height matters in the other direction. Warm air rises, and in a tall room the upper volume is unused space that nobody occupies; a unit placed high sends fragrance into it, so the correct position is at normal level, deep in the room, away from the seating and away from any staircase or gallery opening that connects to another volume. And check what the room is actually connected to - double-height spaces usually open onto a landing, a stairwell or a mezzanine, all of which are part of the same air volume and must be counted. Specification: a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 up to roughly 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected volume, the Aangan at ₹25,999 above that, on Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299. SOSA makes no therapeutic, mood or calming claim. Fragrance is an ambience decision and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: measure the height, count the landing, and buy capacity rather than turning it up.
For a genuinely large double-height volume: the SOSA Aangan at ₹25,999 rather than two smaller units fighting each other. Fragrance from ₹299.

Height is half the room

Double-height rooms are the reason most large-home scenting disappoints, and the cause is almost always the tape measure.

Why this works
Sizing a tall room
1 Measure length, width and actual ceiling height, and multiply 2 Add every space connected by an opening - landing, stairwell, mezzanine 3 Buy one machine sized for the total, never two smaller ones 4 Place it at normal level, deep in the room, away from the stairs
The machine specified in most large Jaipur homes for the main living volume: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, under 38 dB, app and timer control. Bedrooms take reeds from ₹749. Fragrance from ₹299.
01
Height doubles the room
And floor plans never mention it
Every specification conversation starts with square feet, which is exactly the number that omits the variable doing half the work. Six metres instead of three is twice the air, and it is invisible in a floor area figure, so these rooms get under-specified by default and the machine takes the blame. Ask for the height before quoting anything, and multiply it out even roughly.
Tip: Ask for the ceiling height before anything else. Always.
02
Two machines is worse
Hot spots and an uneven middle
When one unit is insufficient the instinct is to add another, and the result is two concentrated areas with unpredictable air between them, plus double the consumption. A single unit sized to the volume distributes evenly; two undersized units never do, whatever their combined rating suggests. If one is not enough, the answer is a larger one.
03
The landing counts
Connected volumes are one room
Double-height living rooms in large Jaipur houses almost always open onto a gallery, a landing or a staircase, and all of that shares air with the room below. Sizing for the living room alone under-specifies again, on top of the height error, which is how a room ends up needing three times what was originally quoted. Walk the connection and include it.
Tip: If the landing is open to it, the landing is part of the room.
The SOSA principle
Six metres instead of three is twice the room, and the floor plan will not tell you.
Which is why these rooms disappoint so reliably.

Placement in a tall volume

Once the volume is right, the level can be low, which is the usual outcome: correctly sized rooms run quietly, and undersized ones run loud and still fail.

The SOSA scent edit
Tall rooms, four rules
Scent Why it suits the mood
Size by volume Length times width times actual height - not floor area
Count connections Landing, stairwell, gallery and mezzanine are the same volume
One machine Sized for the total; two smaller units make hot spots and an uneven middle
Place low and deep Warm air rises, so a high unit scents space nobody occupies

Whatever the space, the method is the same: find the source of any smell and fix it, draw the air volume rather than the floor plan, write down which zones stay unscented, then set a low intensity and a schedule. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the range by the size of space it is honestly built for.

Honest notes for homes and interior projects: fragrance is an ambience decision only and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. Sizing is by air volume including ceiling height, not floor area, and spaces open to a courtyard or to outdoor air will not hold a scent at any setting. Fragrance introduced into a semi-open or outdoor volume is carried away by air that does not stay in the space, so it is spent rather than used. This is a physical limit and not a machine limit: no output setting makes an open courtyard hold a scent. Bedrooms and rooms used for long periods should be set lower than entrance areas, households include children, elderly family members, pets and people with fragrance sensitivity, and unscented rooms should be kept. SOSA makes no claim that ambient scenting increases bookings, enquiries, conversion, retention, referrals, transaction value or guest spend, and no such claim should be made on the strength of this guide. Where memory or association language is used it is descriptive of ordinary experience - people come to associate a place with how it felt - and is not a commercial performance claim, nor a claim about mood, sleep, stress, calm or any other therapeutic effect. Ultrasonic diffusers and the machines run on the Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil, and the two are not interchangeable. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. SOSA's fragrances are made in India; the scent machines are imported. Listed prices are store prices and are subject to change. A note from Sonal

The reason I like being called at drawing stage is unglamorous: a power point costs nothing before the plaster goes on and is a genuine nuisance afterwards. Two discreet high-level points in each room that will actually be scented, and the whole thing disappears into the house instead of sitting on a console table with a cable running down the wall.

The mistake I see most in large Jaipur homes is treating height as if it were not there. A double-height living room holds roughly twice the air of the same floor plan at normal ceiling height, so it is a bigger room in every sense that matters here, and the answer is to size for the volume rather than to turn a smaller machine up. And a courtyard house simply does not hold a scent in the courtyard, whatever anyone tells you.

The limits. Fragrance is an ambience decision, never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control, and I make no therapeutic claim of any kind. If you are specifying a home and want the volumes worked out, WhatsApp me on +91 96192 18531. A part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How should a double-height living room be scented?
By sizing the machine to the air volume - length times width times actual ceiling height - rather than to the floor area.
Why not just turn a smaller machine up?
Because the limit is capacity relative to volume. A turned-up undersized unit makes a strong patch near itself and a weak result across the room.
Can two machines cover one tall room?
No. Two undersized units produce two concentrated areas and unpredictable air between them, at double the consumption. Use one larger unit.
Does the landing or gallery count?
Yes. Anything connected by an open span shares air with the room and must be included in the volume calculation.
Where should the unit sit?
At normal level, deep in the room, away from seating and stairs. Warm air rises, so a high unit scents unused space. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
