SOSA commercial scenting
A showroom with doors big enough to drive a car through is an airflow problem, not a fragrance one
◆ ◆ ◆
What we specify
"Six thousand sq ft display floor, high ceiling, main doors open for vehicle movement all day."
Scent the closed customer lounge properly and treat the open floor as a separate, much harder problem
Large showroom
What we answer
"Owner has put four reed diffusers around a display floor and cannot smell anything."
Reeds are passive and were never going to fill that volume; this is a machine job or no job
Wrong tool
What we specify
"Handover bay where a customer takes delivery of a new car."
A short, contained moment - and the fragrance the customer takes home matters more than the bay
Delivery day
What we fix first
"Detailing studio where polish and coating solvents carry into the lounge."
Extraction and door separation between the bays and the lounge, before any fragrance is discussed
Source control
What we answer
"Active PPF and ceramic-coating bays with cure lamps running."
Working bays stay unscented. Do not introduce anything near a cure process
Bays stay out
What we specify
"Premium used-car showroom wanting to feel closer to a new-car environment."
Deal with the interiors of the cars first; a scented floor over a stale cabin fools nobody

Yes. Not some of it, most of it - and understanding exactly how it leaves is what stops you spending money trying to stop it.
Quick answers — read this first
Will fragrance escape through large showroom doors? Most of it will. Every door opening exchanges a large parcel of air, and a showroom with vehicle-sized doors operating through the day replaces its volume repeatedly. A machine can only add scent to air that stays put, and this air does not.
Does a vestibule or air curtain help? Both reduce exchange and both are worth having for thermal reasons anyway, but neither makes an open display floor behave like a closed room. They improve the situation; they do not change the category.
So what should a showroom do? Scent the contained rooms and leave the floor alone. A SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 in the customer lounge delivers a consistent result; the same machine on the floor delivers an inconsistent one at higher consumption.
The short answer
Short answer: Yes, most of it. A vestibule or air curtain helps but does not change the category - scent the contained rooms and leave the floor alone.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 for the customer lounge, the Aangan at ₹25,999 where a floor is genuinely enclosed, and the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 as the fragrance that leaves in the customer's car.
Sizing? WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your floor area, ceiling height, how often the main doors open and whether the lounge is a separate room - remote sizing from your own measurements, no site visit needed outside Pune.
Commercial scenting goes wrong in a predictable order: somebody buys a machine to cover a smell that has a source, puts it where the socket is, runs it at full intensity because day one felt weak, and ends up with a room people comment on for the wrong reason. Source first, air volume second, unscented zones written down third, low intensity and a schedule fourth. This guide walks that sequence, with the real SOSA machine range at each size.
Will most fragrance escape through a car showroom's large doors?
Yes, and it is worth understanding the mechanism rather than just the outcome. Three things move air out of a showroom.Door exchange: every opening of a vehicle-sized door swaps a substantial parcel of inside air for outside air, and a busy dealership does that many times a day. Stack effect: a high-ceilinged building with a large temperature difference between inside and outside - which, in a Vijayawada April, is considerable - drives a continuous pressure-led flow, pushing air out at high level and pulling it in low. Solar gain: a west-facing glazed frontage heats the air behind it through the afternoon and sets up convection currents that keep everything moving. A scent machine adds fragrance to air. If the air leaves, the fragrance leaves with it.Mitigations help and do not solve. A vestibule or air-lock entrance for customers, an air curtain over the vehicle door, keeping the vehicle door closed except during actual movement, and shading the west glass all reduce exchange - and all are worth doing for energy reasons regardless. But they make an open floor better, not closed. The productive response is to stop fighting it: specify nothing for the display floor, and put the machine where the air stays put. A SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 in the customer lounge produces a consistent result at low consumption; the same machine on the floor produces an inconsistent one while emptying its tank faster. Fragrance from ₹299; the Safar at ₹3,999 for the car. Fragrance is an ambience decision and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: door exchange, stack effect and solar gain all push air out - so put the machine where the air stays.
The honest recommendation for a big-door showroom is a small one: a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 in the lounge and nothing on the floor. Fragrance from ₹299. A machine on the display floor consumes faster and delivers less, which is the worst combination available.

Where the air actually goes
This is the question dealerships ask most, and the arithmetic is more useful than a reassurance would be.
Why this works
Reducing exchange, and knowing its limits
The lounge is the zone that pays: a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 in a contained customer room, rather than a machine fighting an open display floor. Fragrance from ₹299; the Safar at ₹3,999 is the part that goes home.
Door exchange is the obvious one and not the only one. A tall showroom with a big inside-to-outside temperature difference behaves like a chimney: warm air escapes at high level and cooler air is drawn in low, continuously, whether or not anybody opens anything. Add a west-facing glass frontage heating through the afternoon and you have convection on top of that. Together these mean a display floor's air is in constant motion and constant replacement, which is exactly the condition under which ambient scenting does not work.
Tip: A tall showroom is a chimney whether or not anyone opens a door.
02
What mitigation buys
Better, not different
A customer vestibule, an air curtain at the vehicle door, disciplined door use and shaded glazing all genuinely reduce exchange, and all pay for themselves in cooling costs before fragrance enters the conversation. What they do not do is turn an open display floor into a room. Dealerships that install these and then expect a machine to hold the floor are usually disappointed, because the improvement is real but the category has not changed. Do them for the energy saving, and plan the scenting as though the floor is still open.
03
The consumption point
A losing machine also costs more to run
The failure mode is not just that the floor never smells right. It is that somebody raises the intensity to compensate, which empties the tank considerably faster for a result that is still inconsistent. You end up paying more per month for a worse outcome than doing nothing. Redirect that same spend: a Vaayu in the lounge at a low setting consumes slowly and delivers reliably, and the Safar at ₹3,999 goes home with the customer, which no showroom machine can do.
Tip: Losing the floor is expensive twice over.
The SOSA principle
A scent machine adds fragrance to air. If the air leaves, so does the fragrance.
Which makes the display floor a spending decision rather than a technical one.

What to do instead of fighting the doors
Once the floor is off the list, the remaining choices are ordinary and the register is chosen for the lounge and the car rather than for the building.

Why passive reed diffusers are the wrong tool for this volume is in the reed diffuser chapter, the three-zone split that follows from all of this is in the zones chapter, and the seasonal version of the same physics is covered in the Andhra climate guides.

The SOSA commercial range
Whatever the space, the method is the same: find the source of any smell and fix it, draw the air volume rather than the floor plan, write down which zones stay unscented, then set a low intensity and a schedule. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the range by the size of space it is honestly built for.

Honest notes for dealerships and detailing studios: fragrance is an ambience decision only and is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. Solvent, polish, coating and paint odours are an extraction and workshop-ventilation matter, and active working bays - including PPF and ceramic-coating bays and any cure process - stay unscented. A display floor with frequently opening vehicle doors and a high ceiling exchanges air faster than any machine can scent it, so contained rooms are specified first. SOSA makes no claim that scenting increases sales, conversion or customer spend. Ultrasonic diffusers and the machines run on the Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil, and the two are not interchangeable. A note from Sonal
Car showrooms defeat more scent machines than any other space I get asked about, and the reason is simple: the doors are big enough to drive a car through, and they open all day. Air volume plus constant exchange plus a high ceiling is the hardest combination there is. Anyone who tells you one machine will hold a 6,000 sq ft display floor at a noticeable level has not stood in one in May.
So I say the same thing every time: win the closed rooms. The customer lounge, the sales cabin, the handover area - these are contained volumes where a setting stays true and where customers actually sit and decide. And the highest-value scent in this business is not in your building at all; it is the one that goes home in the car.
Fragrance is an ambience decision and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control - in a detailing studio especially, solvent smells are an extraction question and working bays stay unscented. Frequently asked questions
Will fragrance escape through large showroom doors?
Most of it. Door exchange, stack effect in a tall building and solar gain through west-facing glass all move air out continuously, and fragrance leaves with the air.
Does an air curtain or vestibule fix it?
They reduce exchange and are worth having for cooling costs anyway, but they make an open display floor better rather than turning it into a closed room.
Can I just run the machine harder?
That empties the tank considerably faster for a result that is still inconsistent, so you pay more per month for a worse outcome than doing nothing.
What is stack effect?
In a tall building with a large inside-to-outside temperature difference, warm air escapes at high level and cooler air is drawn in low, continuously, whether or not doors are opened.
What should I do instead?

Facts verified September 2026: Fragrance is an ambience decision only and is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control.
