Why do apartments need a different approach? Because the front door opens onto a shared corridor, the kitchen is often only a few metres from the living area with no door between them, and the balcony is covered and cannot hold fragrance.
Should I scent the balcony? No. Covered balconies, terraces and verandahs cannot hold fragrance because the air exchanges continuously. Spend that money on the entrance instead.
An apartment is not a small house. It has different problems
Advice about whole-home fragrance is mostly written for houses, and an apartment is not a house with fewer square feet. Three structural differences change what you should buy, and none of them appears on a floor plan. The first is the front door. In a house, the front door opens onto your own land. In an apartment it opens onto a shared corridor, which has two consequences. Anything placed right at the threshold is partly scenting a space that belongs to the building rather than to you, which is both wasteful and, in a corridor where several families pass daily, presumptuous. And the traffic runs the other way too: your flat receives whatever the corridor carries, including cooking from neighbouring kitchens, particularly when the door is opened. The practical instruction is to place the entrance source just inside the door rather than at it, where it does its work on the person arriving without being pushed into shared air. This position still matters more than any room in the flat, because everybody who lives in a home has adapted to it and perceives very little, so walking in from outside is the only moment anybody experiences the place properly. The second difference is the one that actually determines what an apartment smells like, and it is the kitchen. In a compact flat the hob is frequently four or five metres from the seating, often with no door between them and sometimes with no wall. Cooking smell is not a smell in the air that dissipates; it is aerosolised oil, and it travels and settles onto soft surfaces - the sofa, the curtains, the rug, the cushions - where it is released slowly for days afterwards. In a large house with a separate kitchen and a closed door, this is a manageable problem. In an open compact plan it is the dominant factor in how the home smells, and no fragrance product addresses it. Using the extraction every single time something is cooked, at full speed, with whatever door exists closed, does more for a 1,200 square foot apartment than every item in our catalogue combined. And fragrance layered over unextracted cooking smell is actively worse than nothing, because the combination is instantly legible to anybody who walks in and it reads as concealment rather than care. The third difference is the balcony, and this one is a straightforward refusal. Covered balconies, terraces and verandahs cannot hold fragrance. The air exchanges continuously with the outside, so whatever is released is gone immediately, and no product, price or setting changes that. It is a common and understandable purchase - the balcony is often the nicest part of a flat - and it is money that will do nothing. Spend it on the entrance or on better fragrance for the rooms that can actually hold it. With those three understood, the kit for a 1,200 square foot apartment is simple and inexpensive. A reed diffuser in each bathroom, which is the highest return per rupee available in home fragrance because a bathroom is small enough for one source to work evenly, is behind a door no machine can serve, and is the room visitors notice most. A reed in each bedroom at the lightest level in the home, since dwell time there is long and somebody sleeping in a room cannot leave it. A reed or a Boond just inside the entrance. And for the living and dining area, a choice: another reed if a constant low presence is fine, which for most flats this size it genuinely is, or a small scheduled unit such as the Sukoon at Rs 1,799 if you specifically want the level to build before you get home in the evening rather than being the same all day. The Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is rated for up to 1,000 square metres of connected air, roughly 10,700 square feet, and is not a product for this home. One last apartment-specific note. A flat usually runs on a single air conditioning pattern, and a strong directed airstream will carry everything in one direction and produce a gradient rather than an even level. Keep sources out of the direct throw of a unit, and at console or table height rather than on the floor, where still air produces a pool instead of distribution.
The apartment kit
The apartment kit for 1,200 sq ft. Every bathroom, the highest return per rupee in home fragrance: a reed diffuser - Morning Freshness at Rs 749, Garden Bloom at Rs 799, Evening Calm at Rs 799, Fresh Brew at Rs 849, Mountain Breeze at Rs 849 - three to four months per bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml. Each bedroom, at the lightest level in the home since dwell is long and the occupant cannot leave: one reed. Just inside the entrance rather than at the door, since the corridor is shared air you do not control: a reed or the SOSA Boond at Rs 799, running continuously. The living and dining area: another reed if a constant low presence is fine, which for most flats this size it is, or the SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,799 if you want the level to build before you come home. A larger connected core than this: the SOSA Megh at Rs 3,499 with a 6L tank. Not this home: the SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999, rated for up to 1,000 m² of connected air, roughly 10,700 square feet. Fragrance for machines: Hotel Collection at Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml, at three to six drops per tank, rinsing between scents. This is a water-based fragrance for ultrasonic diffusers and is not reed diffuser oil; the two are not interchangeable and reed oil can damage a diffuser. Keep every source at console or table height and out of the direct throw of an air conditioner, since a strong airstream produces a gradient rather than a level and floor placement in still air makes a pool. Outranking everything above: extraction over the hob used every single time at full speed with any door closed, because cooking smell is aerosolised oil that settles into the sofa, curtains and rug of a compact open plan. Never scented: the kitchen at any time, the dining area, children's rooms, and covered balconies, which cannot hold fragrance at all. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards.

Versailles
Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.
And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
