Does ceiling height matter? Yes. A room with a 12 foot ceiling holds substantially more air than the same floor area at 9 feet, so identical square footage can mean very different volumes.
What does a 1,000 sq ft home usually work out to? Often a connected core of a living and dining area only, since bedrooms and bathrooms are behind doors. That is a small volume, served well by a reed or a Sukoon at Rs 1,799.
Floor area is the wrong input. Volume is the right one
Sizing questions in this category are almost always asked in square feet, and square feet is the wrong unit for the job. It is a floor measurement, and fragrance does not sit on the floor. What a machine has to fill is a volume of air, and two homes with identical floor plans can contain very different volumes and behave very differently. Here is the method that actually works, in three steps. Step one is to convert area into volume by multiplying by ceiling height. This sounds pedantic until you compare two real cases. A 1,000 square foot apartment with a standard nine or ten foot ceiling contains a certain quantity of air. The same 1,000 square feet with a twelve foot ceiling, which is common in older buildings and in some newer premium ones, contains roughly a third more. That third has to be filled by the same source, and it changes both how long a level takes to build and how much material it takes to hold it. Height has a second effect worth knowing: warm air rises, so in a tall room the upper portion tends to hold more of what is released and the level at seated height is lower than the average would suggest. Raising the dose to compensate is the wrong response, since it fills the ceiling void rather than the room. The better answers in a tall room are a source at console or table height rather than floor level, and enough soft furnishing to give the room a reserve. Step two is where most of the sizing error actually lives, and it has nothing to do with arithmetic. Subtract every room whose door is usually closed, because a machine distributes fragrance through connected moving air and cannot cross a closed door. In a typical Indian 1,000 square foot flat, that means subtracting both bedrooms, which are shut for privacy and for air conditioning, and both bathrooms, which are shut permanently. The kitchen is subtracted too, but for a different reason: it should never be scented at any time, since cooking smell is aerosolised oil that requires extraction rather than competition. What is left is usually the living and dining area, possibly with a passage, and that is frequently around a third of the total floor plan. Step three is to size for that remaining volume and nothing else, and this is where the honest answer diverges sharply from the marketing answer. A connected core of one or two rooms in a compact flat is a small volume. It does not need a machine built for a villa ground floor, and putting one there produces a home that is heavier than its owners can perceive, because everybody living in a space adapts to it within about an hour. If a constant low presence is acceptable, a reed diffuser at Rs 749 to Rs 849 will serve that core for three to four months without being touched. If the requirement is specifically that the level should change with time, so the home builds a presence before you walk in during the evening rather than being identical all day, then a small scheduled unit such as the Sukoon at Rs 1,799 is the right choice. A Megh at Rs 3,499 with its 6L tank belongs in a larger connected core, remembering that a tank is a recurring job that gets refilled every few days and rinsed between scents. The Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is rated for up to 1,000 square metres of connected air, which is roughly 10,700 square feet, and it is simply not a product for a home of this size. Two closing points. First, the rooms you subtracted still exist and still want serving; they want a passive source each rather than a bigger machine, so a reed in each bedroom and each bathroom completes the home. Second, none of this arithmetic matters if there is an unaddressed cause. In a compact plan the kitchen is often only a few metres from the seating with nothing between them, which makes extraction the single highest-value habit in the house, and a bathroom that is not used daily will develop a dried drain trap that no amount of correct sizing addresses.
Sizing by volume, not by plan
Sizing by volume, not by plan. The connected core that remains after subtracting closed rooms, usually a living and dining area: a reed diffuser from Rs 749 through to Rs 849 if a constant level is fine, or the SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,799 if the level should change with time and build before you come home. A larger connected core: the SOSA Megh at Rs 3,499 with a 6L tank, remembering that a tank is refilled every few days and rinsed between scents. Not this house: the SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999, rated for up to 1,000 m² of connected air, roughly 10,700 square feet. The rooms subtracted from the calculation, which still need serving and want a passive source rather than a bigger machine: one reed in each bedroom, at the lightest level in the home since dwell time there is long, and one in each bathroom - Morning Freshness at Rs 749, Garden Bloom at Rs 799, Evening Calm at Rs 799, Fresh Brew at Rs 849, Mountain Breeze at Rs 849 - three to four months per bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml. Entrance: a reed or the SOSA Boond at Rs 799. In a tall room, raise the source to console or table height rather than raising the dose, and add soft furnishing, which gives the room a reserve that holds fragrance and releases it slowly. Fragrance for machines: Hotel Collection at Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml, at three to six drops per tank, rinsing between scents. Reed oil and Hotel Collection are two different systems and are not interchangeable. None of the arithmetic matters over an unaddressed cause: extraction over the hob every single time, and a mug of water down the drains of any bathroom not used daily. Never scented: the kitchen, the dining area, children's rooms, and covered balconies. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards.
| Scent | Why it suits the mood |
|---|---|
| 1. Volume | Connected floor area multiplied by ceiling height |
| 2. Subtract | Every room whose door is usually shut. Plus the kitchen |
| 3. Size for the rest · ₹1,799 | Often two rooms. A reed, or a Sukoon if you want timing |
| The subtracted rooms · from ₹749 | A reed each. Never a bigger machine |
The unit confusion is in the 1,000 sq ft chapter, coverage limits are in the coverage chapter, and how many units are needed is in the quantity chapter. Everything gathers in the size guide.

Versailles
Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.
And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
