Two adjustments that people miss. Height counts more than floor plan. A double-height entrance hall of 500 sq ft at a 20 ft ceiling is 10,000 cu ft, about 283m³ on its own, so a modest-looking hall can be a large volume. An open front door subtracts. On a function day the main door is propped open for hours while people arrive, which means the hall is partly exchanging air with outside all morning - so plan for a longer, gentler run rather than a stronger one. Now read the answer off. A small entrance lobby around 113m³ is a Boond at ₹899 or a Sukoon at ₹1,899 with the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299. Scent the volume that is genuinely open to itself, then give the closed rooms their own quiet answer, usually a reed diffuser. Fragrance never substitutes for ventilation or cleaning. If a room smells damp, stale or of last night's cooking, open it, air it and clean it first; scent added on top of that only makes a more complicated bad smell. A home is not a lobby you pass through. There is a difference between a room that smells nice and a home that has a signature, and almost nobody is told what it is. A room that smells nice is an event: you light a candle, you spray something in the hallway before people arrive, it is lovely for forty minutes and then it is gone. Somewhere else in the house a bathroom gel is doing one thing, a kitchen spray another, and a bedroom reed a third. Four pleasant smells in four rooms is not a fragranced home. It is four rooms.
A signature is the opposite. It is one scent, sized to the house, running on a schedule - so it is already in the air when someone walks through your front door, and already there at eleven at night when you come home yourself, and nobody has lifted a finger to make it happen. That is the whole trick the great hotels use, and it is not complicated: they do not chase smells room by room, they hold one fragrance across the volume people actually move through. In a villa that usually means the entrance, the living room and the dining as one connected space, with the closed rooms handled separately and quietly.

How many machines do I need for a house hosting a wedding function?
Usually one, and often a smaller one than you were planning, plus two or three reeds. The instinct is to count rooms or guests; the right count is bodies of connected air. If your entrance, hall, passage and drawing room open into each other with no door between them, that is one body of air and one machine's job, and a second unit a few metres away in the same volume adds very little. The function area is outdoors and comes out of the count entirely. What genuinely needs separate attention is every room with a door that closes, because no machine at any price pushes scent through one: the washroom guests use, the room where bags, shoes and gift boxes are collected, the bedroom the family is getting ready in, and any upstairs landing. Those take a reed from Rs 749 each, which is the correct product for them rather than a compromise. Will a bigger machine make the fragrance reach the courtyard?
No. This is the single most common misunderstanding in home wedding scenting and it is worth being blunt about, because it wastes money and produces a worse result indoors. Coverage figures describe enclosed connected air. A courtyard, lawn, garden, driveway or open terrace has no enclosure, so there is nothing for the fragrance to accumulate in and it is diluted past detection almost immediately. Turning the intensity up does not extend the reach outdoors; it just releases more fragrance which is then carried away, while the room the machine is standing in becomes far too strong for the people sitting in it. A shamiana or a tent does not change this either, because the sides are open and the volume under it is enormous. What actually works at an outdoor function is scent at human scale and at the boundary: the enclosed rooms guests pass through on the way in and out, and the flowers, food and henna that are already there. Should I buy the Vaayu now and use it for the wedding, or buy something small?
Ask yourself what happens on the Monday after. If the answer is that the house goes back to being an ordinary house and nobody wants to think about fragrance again, buy small and buy well: a Sukoon at Rs 1,899 or a Megh at Rs 3,499 with the water-based Hotel Collection from Rs 299, plus reeds from Rs 749 for the washroom and the shoe area, will do a genuinely good job of the arrival and cost you under Rs 6,000 all in. Where should the machine actually stand during a function?
In the enclosed part of the route, low, and away from three things. First, away from any lamp, diya or candle, with no exceptions and no shared surface - at a roka or an engagement there are often lamps at the entrance and a puja underway somewhere in the house, and fragrance products and open flame simply do not share a table. Second, away from the door that is propped open, because a machine sitting in a draught sends most of what it produces straight outside and reads as nothing at all in the hall. Third, away from where people will actually sit for hours, since anything at close range for a long time is far stronger than the same setting experienced in passing. The best position in most homes is a console or side table in the entrance hall or the passage, set back a couple of metres from the open door, at low height so the air movement in the room carries it rather than blowing it. It needs a live socket. And the puja room is not scented at all, on any day of the week.
Do I need a machine at all, or will reed diffusers do?
For several of the places that matter most, reeds are not a compromise, they are the correct product. A washroom that a hundred people will use one at a time, a shoe area by the front door, a stair landing, the room where bags and gift boxes pile up: all of those are small, enclosed, unattended and often without a convenient socket, which is exactly the shape of problem a reed solves. What reeds do not do is fill a large connected hall evenly, which is where a machine earns its place.
