Active scenting starts at a volume of air rather than at a floor area, and the two numbers are much further apart in a chiropractic clinic than in almost any other kind of premises. Do the subtraction first and the shopping second.
Quick answers — read this first
At what clinic size does active scenting start to make sense? At roughly 1,500 sq ft of scented area, which is a very different number from the area on your lease. Scented area is the entrance, reception, waiting room and connecting corridor only. Every adjustment room, treatment room, examination room, imaging room, store, staff room and washroom comes out first, and in a chiropractic practice that subtraction usually removes more than half the plan. A 1,200 sq ft clinic often has 400 to 600 sq ft of scented area, which is a reed or a small machine rather than a ₹11,999 one.

What is scented volume, and how do I work it out? Take the square footage of the rooms that actually get scented, multiply by the ceiling height in metres, and multiply by 0.0929. Five hundred scented square feet at a 3.05 m ceiling is 500 × 3.05 × 0.0929, or about 142 cubic metres. Coverage figures are published in cubic metres for a reason: the SOSA Vaayu is rated at 1000m³, so against 142 it is seven times the room. A double-height reception can quietly double the figure your floor plan suggests.

Is there any reason to cross earlier than the size says? One, and it is control rather than coverage. If somebody needs the source stopped in seconds, or there are hours the clinic must not run anything, or several people can reach the dial and do, a small machine earns its price at any size. That is a Sukoon at ₹1,899, not the ₹11,999 machine. Coverage, on the other hand, never arrives early: no amount of wanting it makes a 200 cubic metre room need a 1000m³ machine.
The short answer
Short answer: At about 1,500 sq ft of scented area, not of leased area. Subtract every unscented room - adjustment, treatment, examination, store, washroom - then multiply the remainder by the ceiling height and 0.0929 to get cubic metres. Under about 300 sq ft scented, buy a reed at ₹749. To about 750, a Sukoon at ₹1,899. Past 1,500, the Vaayu at ₹11,999. Most chiropractic practices are not there yet.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 once the scented area is genuinely past ~1,500 sq ft, and one Morning Freshness reed at ₹749 or a Sukoon at ₹1,899 below it.
Next step: list your rooms with their sizes and mark the ones clients sit in, add the ceiling height, and we will do the subtraction and tell you which side of the line you are on - ask for a clinic scenting plan.
The threshold is a subtraction, not a floor areaTake out cabins, examination, store, staff room, washroomWhat is left is the scented area: front of house and corridorScented sq ft x ceiling in metres x 0.0929 = cubic metresUnder 300 a reed, to 750 a Sukoon, past 1,500 the VaayuMost chiropractic clinics are not there yet
The whole method is one subtraction and one multiplication. It is also the step that most over-buying skips.
The far side of the line - tap for the coverage figures
Straight answer
At what clinic size does moving from reed diffusers to active scenting make sense?
At about 1,500 sq ft of scented area on coverage grounds - and the trap in that sentence is the word scented, because it is not the number on your lease. Do the subtraction before you do anything else. Scented area is the entrance, the reception, the waiting area and the corridor that joins them. Out of the calculation come the adjustment rooms, treatment rooms, examination rooms, imaging rooms and any combined consultation-and-treatment room, all of which stay unscented because a chiropractic client spends the session prone with their face in a cradle and cannot move away from what is in the air. Out also come the store, the staff room, the washroom and the plant cupboard, which nobody was scenting anyway. Work an ordinary example. A 1,200 sq ft practice with four cabins at about 100 sq ft each, a consultation room, a store, a staff room and a washroom has roughly 450 to 550 sq ft left, and that is the number that decides your purchase. Then convert it, because you scent volume rather than floor: scented square feet × ceiling height in metres × 0.0929. Five hundred square feet at a 3.05 metre ceiling is about 142 cubic metres. The SOSA Vaayu is rated at 1000m³, roughly 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, so against that clinic it is seven times the room. Now read the bands. Under about 300 sq ft of scented area, one reed at ₹749 to ₹849 and nothing else. From there to about 750, either reeds or a Sukoon at ₹1,899. From 750 to 1,500 is the genuine decision zone, and it is settled by control and distribution rather than by coverage. Past 1,500 the Vaayu at ₹11,999 is correct on coverage as well, and past about 3,000 it is the Angaan at ₹25,999 rather than two Vaayus, because one machine serves one volume of air and several in one connected space make competing gradients rather than combined coverage. There is a second line worth naming: control. If somebody needs the source stopped in seconds, or there are hours nothing may run, a small machine is defensible at any size, and that is ₹1,899 rather than ₹11,999. Coverage never arrives early. For a majority of chiropractic practices, the honest answer to this question is not yet. Fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting, seating or flooring, it sits alongside ventilation and cleaning rather than instead of them, SOSA products are not medical devices, we make no claim that scenting affects bookings, retention or spend, and the clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan.
Not at a lease size, at a scented volume. Subtract every unscented room, multiply by the ceiling, and read the band: reed under ~300 sq ft, Sukoon to ~750, Vaayu past ~1,500. For most practices, not yet.
Below the line, one Morning Freshness reed at ₹749 is the whole purchase. Past it, the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is correct on coverage - and we would rather do your subtraction than assume you are past it.

What the far side of the line buys

These two are what you are choosing between once the subtraction has genuinely put you past 1,500 sq ft of scented area. If it has not, they are reference points rather than options, and the reed above is your purchase.

The subtraction, the multiplier and the two lines

Three steps, and each one moves the answer downward. That direction is the whole reason this page exists, because every instinct an owner has about clinic size moves it the other way.

1
Step one
The subtraction, worked on a real plan
Write out every room with its approximate area, then strike through the ones that are never scented. Adjustment and treatment rooms go, examination and imaging rooms go, any combined consultation-and-treatment room goes, and so do the store, staff room, washroom and plant cupboard. What survives is the entrance, the reception, the waiting area and the corridor. On a 1,200 sq ft plan with four cabins that is typically 450 to 550 sq ft; on a 750 sq ft plan with three cabins it can be as little as 250. The reason this matters is that every published coverage figure, including ours, is quoted against the space a machine has to fill, and comparing it with a lease area rather than a scented area overstates your requirement by a factor of two or three.
Tip: Do the subtraction on a printed plan with a pen. Doing it in your head reliably leaves one room in that should have come out.
SOSA Vaayu
The Vaayu's figure is 1000m³. Hold your post-subtraction number against that, not the number on your lease, and the comparison becomes honest.
See SOSA Vaayu →
2
Step two
The multiplier nobody applies
You scent volume, not floor area, and volume needs a height. Scented square feet times ceiling height in metres times 0.0929 gives cubic metres. Four hundred square feet at 3 metres is about 111 cubic metres; the same 400 sq ft under a 4.5 metre soffit is 167, and the top third of that is air nobody stands in. This is why two clinics with identical plans can genuinely need different products, and why a double-height reception is the most common reason a sizing exercise goes wrong. It also cuts the other way: a low false ceiling in a corridor makes that corridor a much smaller job than its length suggests. Measure the height in each part of the scented zone rather than assuming one number for the whole front of house.
SOSA Vaayu
Coverage is published in cubic metres precisely because height matters. The Vaayu's 2,000-3,000 sq ft equivalent assumes an ordinary ceiling, and a void eats into it.
See SOSA Vaayu →
3
Step three
Two lines, and you only need to cross one
The coverage line sits at roughly 1,500 sq ft of scented area, and it is where a machine starts to be justified by the size of the room alone. The control line has no size at all. If a member of staff needs the source stopped within seconds and cannot reach it, if there are hours when nothing may run, if a cleaning window needs the room aired with nothing going, or if three people can reach the dial and one of them keeps raising it, then an active source is justified in a 250 sq ft reception - and the correct spend there is ₹1,899, not ₹11,999. Crossing the control line does not put you on the far side of the coverage line. Buying a machine rated at seven times your room because you wanted a timer is the most expensive way to buy a timer.
Tip: Write down which line you have crossed before you shop. Owners who cannot name it usually have not crossed either.
SOSA Vaayu
Where both lines are crossed together - a large front of house and several hands on the dial - the Vaayu's key-lock is the feature that matters most.
See SOSA Vaayu →
The SOSA principle
There are two thresholds, not one. Coverage arrives at about 1,500 sq ft of scented area; control can arrive at any size at all, and costs a tenth as much to satisfy.
Most chiropractic practices have crossed neither, which is why the answer on this page is so often not yet.
SOSA Vaayu
Held against a measured number: 1000m³ is seven times a typical 500 sq ft scented zone. That ratio, not the price, is the reason to wait.

Four bands of scented volume

Find your post-subtraction number in the left column. The bands are given in scented square feet at an ordinary ceiling; if your ceiling is unusually high or low, convert to cubic metres first and treat the figures as approximate.

The SOSA plan
Four bands of scented area, and the honest purchase in each
Scented area, after the subtraction What actually makes sense there
Under about 300 sq ft
One reed at ₹749 to ₹849, three or four reeds standing rather than six. A machine here is rated for many times the room and buys reach you have nowhere to put.
SOSA VaayuAbout 300 to 750 sq ft
Reeds, or a Sukoon at ₹1,899 if the control line has been crossed. Ultrasonic, so it adds a little humidity and needs a tank routine somebody owns.
About 750 to 1,500 sq ft
The genuine decision zone, and coverage does not settle it. Control and corridor distribution do. Plenty of clinics in this band correctly stay on reeds for another year.
SOSA VaayuPast about 1,500 sq ft
The Vaayu at ₹11,999 is correct on coverage as well as control, and past roughly 3,000 sq ft it is the Angaan at ₹25,999 rather than a second machine. View →

The four reasons that justify the machine once you are past the line are counted in whether a commercial scent machine is worth buying, the same subtraction done on a specific plan is in scenting a 750 sq ft clinic with multiple treatment rooms, and the solo-versus-large version of the question is in whether professional scenting suits a solo chiropractor. SOSA makes no health, therapeutic or wellbeing claim of any kind, and no claim that scenting affects bookings, retention or spend.

SOSA Vaayu
One volume, one machine: several units in one connected space produce competing gradients rather than combined coverage, and the corners still lose. A second machine belongs to a second volume.
The subtraction takes five minutes and it is the whole decision

A note from Sonal

I ask for a room list rather than a floor area now, and I started doing it because of how often the two disagreed. An owner would tell me twelve hundred square feet, I would size against twelve hundred square feet, and then a plan would arrive showing four cabins, a consultation room, a store and a washroom, and the space we were actually talking about was a reception, six chairs and eight metres of corridor. That is not a machine problem. It is a bottle.

Chiropractic is unusual in how much of the plan comes out. In a boutique or a restaurant nearly everything is scented, so the lease area and the scented area are close and a shortcut is harmless. In your building the majority of the rooms are on the zero list by rule, and the shortcut is the single most reliable way to over-buy. That is why this page is mostly a subtraction rather than a recommendation.

The honest summary for most readers of this page is not yet, and not yet is a perfectly good place to be. We make no health, therapeutic or clinical claim of any kind, and no claim that scenting affects bookings, retention, referrals or spend. Fragrance is an ambience decision, like lighting or seating. Adjustment and treatment rooms stay unscented, staff must be able to switch the source off in seconds, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly counts as scented area in a chiropractic clinic?
The entrance, the reception, the waiting area and the corridor joining them. Nothing else. Adjustment rooms, treatment rooms, examination and imaging rooms and any combined consultation-and-treatment room stay unscented by rule, and the store, staff room and washroom were never in the plan. On most chiropractic layouts that leaves under half of the leased area.
How do I convert my scented area into the cubic metres on a product page?
Scented square feet times the ceiling height in metres times 0.0929. Four hundred square feet at 3 metres is about 111 cubic metres; 500 sq ft at 3.05 metres is about 142. Compare that figure with the machine's rating rather than comparing square feet with square feet, because the square-foot equivalents on any product page assume an ordinary ceiling.
My clinic is 1,200 sq ft. Have I crossed the threshold?
Almost certainly not on coverage. A 1,200 sq ft practice with four cabins, a consultation room and back-of-house typically has 450 to 550 sq ft of scented area, which is comfortably reed or Sukoon territory. You may have crossed the control line, which is a different purchase: a ₹1,899 machine buys the switch and the schedule without buying seven times the coverage you need.
Does a long corridor push me over the line on its own?
It can change the format without changing the band. A corridor is a distribution problem rather than a volume one: a bottle standing in reception will not carry along thirty metres of corridor whatever you do to it, so a mounted source becomes the honest answer even where the cubic metres are modest. That is a reason to look at a machine, not a reason to buy the largest one.
If I am below the line, when should I look at this again?
When the building changes or the staffing does. A new suite, a wall coming down, a mezzanine, or a move to premises with a real corridor will all change the subtraction. So will hiring a front-of-house team who need the source stopped at particular times. Otherwise a reed at ₹749 to ₹849, replaced every six to eighteen weeks depending on bottle size, is a complete answer.
SOSA Angaan
Past the second line: the SOSA Angaan at ₹25,999, 3,000m³, for genuinely large connected air. It replaces the idea of buying a second Vaayu for the same volume.

Facts verified 24 August 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W (roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule), freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB, and also runs standalone wall-mounted or lay-flat. Ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision: it works alongside proper ventilation, cleaning and clinical protocol and is not a substitute for any of them, it is not a medical device, and SOSA makes no health, therapeutic or treatment claim of any kind and no claim that fragrance affects bookings, retention or spend.
