For a few weeks a year the air conditioning is off, windows are open and the level you set in May is obviously too strong, which makes December the most useful month in the calendar.
Quick answers — read this first
Does an Ahmedabad winter change scenting? Yes, more than people expect. With the air conditioning barely running and windows sometimes open, air movement patterns change entirely and a level set for deep summer reads noticeably heavier.

Should the level go down in winter? Usually yes, and it is the most important adjustment of the year, because it is what undoes the increases made during the summer.

Does an open window make the machine pointless? It changes the calculation substantially. A room with a window genuinely open is being ventilated by outdoor air, and holding a level in it is not realistic - the sensible move is to run less rather than more.
The short answer
Short answer: Turn it down. December is the month that undoes May.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 on Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299, set to a written perceived level and rechecked when the season turns.
Sizing? WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your floor area, ceiling height, AC usage through the year, how often the street door opens, and whether you have carpet or heavy upholstery - remote sizing from your own measurements, no site visit needed outside Pune.
How SOSA sizes a commercial space - the order that actually worksStep 1 - find the source: solvents, sanitiser, footwear, drains, AC filters, stale airStep 2 - draw the air volume, not the floor plan: doors and partitions divide itStep 3 - decide which zones stay unscented, and write that downStep 4 - set intensity low and schedule it around your peakStep 5 - re-check after two weeks, then leave it alone
Commercial scenting goes wrong in a predictable order: somebody buys a machine to cover a smell that has a source, puts it where the socket is, runs it at full intensity because day one felt weak, and ends up with a room people comment on for the wrong reason. Source first, air volume second, unscented zones written down third, low intensity and a schedule fourth. This guide walks that sequence, with the real SOSA machine range at each size.
Straight answer
What changes about commercial scenting in an Ahmedabad December?
Three things, and together they make winter the month to reduce output. One: the air conditioning is barely running. For much of December and January a commercial interior in Ahmedabad does not need continuous cooling, which means the air handling that was exchanging air rapidly all summer is doing far less. Slower exchange means more fragrance present at the same setting, so a level tuned for June reads heavier in December without anybody changing anything. Two: windows and doors behave differently. Where a building can be ventilated naturally, windows get opened, and a room with a window genuinely open is being ventilated by outdoor air on the outdoor air's terms. Holding a perceived level in such a room is not realistic, and the correct response is to run less rather than more - a machine competing with an open window loses, expensively. In some businesses the honest answer for a few weeks is to switch it off during the hours the windows are open. Three: arrival is different. A customer coming in from twelve or fourteen degrees is not the sensitised, overheated person who arrived in May, and does not experience the same sharp step at the door. The doorway effect that justified a very low summer setting is weaker, which cuts the other way and is worth noticing rather than assuming everything points down. What to do, concretely. Do the late-November recheck properly. Somebody comes in from outside, reads the written perceived target, and adjusts. In most rooms that means a reduction from the summer position, and the point of the exercise is that this is the moment the summer increases get reversed. Write the winter setting down beside the summer one, so that in March you are returning to a recorded position rather than guessing. Keep the register the same. A business that changes fragrance with the season never establishes one, and the whole value of a house scent is that it is the same each time somebody comes in. A Vaayu at ₹11,999 on fragrance from ₹299, lower, on the same schedule. One winter opportunity worth taking. These are the weeks when the room is at its most naturally ventilated, which makes December and January the best time to do the deep work: extract the carpet and upholstery, clear the drain pans, deal with anything the monsoon left, and clean the unit properly. It all works better when the building can be aired. Drift is the failure mode in every one of these situations. Staff stop noticing, somebody raises the level, nobody ever lowers it. Key-lock the unit, name one owner, and check quarterly with somebody who has just come in. SOSA makes no claim that ambient scenting affects footfall, enquiries, dwell time or sales, and we do not make therapeutic, psychological or air-purification claims for any fragrance. Fragrance is an ambience decision and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: December is when you turn it down and clean everything.

Three things winter changes

December is the only month in the Ahmedabad year that reliably pushes a level downward, which makes it the most useful one.

Why this works
What to do in December
1 Do the late-November recheck from outside, against the written target 2 Reduce from the summer position, and record both settings 3 Switch off during hours when windows are genuinely open 4 Use the ventilated weeks for deep cleaning and unit maintenance
The point of a schedule is that nobody has to touch the dial. SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, fragrance from ₹299, a written perceived level and a seasonal recheck.
01
Slower air exchange
Same setting, stronger room
With cooling demand low the air handling moves far less air than it did in June. More fragrance is present at an unchanged setting, which is why a summer level reads heavy in December without anybody touching it.
Tip: The building stopped flushing itself.
02
An open window wins
Every time
A room ventilated by outdoor air cannot hold a perceived level, and a machine competing with a window loses expensively. Switching off during open-window hours is the sensible move rather than raising output.
Tip: Do not fight a window.
03
Winter is the maintenance window
Because the building can be aired
Carpet extraction, upholstery, drain pans, whatever the monsoon left, and a proper clean of the unit all go better when a room can be ventilated naturally. These few weeks are the best time of the year for it.
Tip: Do the deep work while you can open a window.
The SOSA principle
December is the only month in the Ahmedabad year that reliably pushes a level downward.
Which is exactly why it is the one not to skip.

The same register, lower

Keep the same register and lower the level, because the value of a house scent is that it is recognisably the same thing every time somebody comes in.

The SOSA commercial range

Whatever the space, the method is the same: find the source of any smell and fix it, draw the air volume rather than the floor plan, write down which zones stay unscented, then set a low intensity and a schedule. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the range by the size of space it is honestly built for.

Honest notes on the Ahmedabad climate: fragrance is an ambience decision only and is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. Dry air carries fragrance less readily than humid air, and continuously running air conditioning both dries and recirculates, so perceived intensity falls in the hot season independently of any setting. Dust entering a street-facing premises is a filtration, pressure and door-management matter and is not addressed by fragrance. Soft furnishings retain odour even in a dry climate and are a cleaning matter. Perceived intensity varies with the temperature contrast at the entrance, so levels are judged from the doorway. SOSA makes no claim that ambient scenting increases footfall, enquiries, conversion, retention, referrals, transaction value or customer spend, and no such claim should be made on the strength of this guide. Where association language is used it is descriptive of ordinary experience - people come to associate a place with how it feels - and is not a commercial performance claim. Ultrasonic diffusers and the machines run on the Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil, and the two are not interchangeable. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. SOSA's fragrances are made in India; the scent machines are imported. Listed prices are store prices and are subject to change. A note from Sonal

Ahmedabad is not a coastal climate and the usual Indian scenting advice does not transfer. The air here is genuinely dry for much of the year, and dry air carries fragrance less readily - so the same setting that felt balanced in a humid month reads as thinner. Add air conditioning that runs almost without stopping from March, and you have two effects pointing the same way.

Then there is the thing everybody in this city already knows about: dust. Dust is particles and fragrance is vapour - they do not cancel, they coexist, and a visibly dusty display beside a strong fragrance tells a customer a story you did not intend. Filtration, slight positive pressure, a vestibule and decent entrance matting do what no machine can, and they make the machine work afterwards.

And Ahmedabad has a real winter, which most of my Indian clients do not. A level chosen in January, with the air conditioning barely running and the doors sometimes open, will feel noticeably heavier in a tightly sealed May. Two settings, two fixed dates, and check the filter before you change either. Fragrance is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531. A part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
