Cooling vs calming - what they actually mean
Two scent effects are commonly confused because both feel "nice". They are not the same neurochemistry.

5 cooling vs calming mistakes
1. Treating "wellness" as a single category
"Wellness" is not a scent quadrant. It is a marketing umbrella that includes both calming and cooling and a lot of stuff in between. When a brand sells a "wellness" diffuser, ask which quadrant it sits in. If they cannot tell you, assume it is heavy calming - that is the default in the Indian wellness market.
2. Using bedroom diffusers in the gym to "save money"
A bedroom diffuser in the gym is the most common home-fragrance mistake in middle-class Indian homes. It is well-intentioned - the diffuser already exists, why buy another one. The cooling vs calming distinction came out of a conversation with a customer in Dharamshala in 2023.
