This is the awkward one, and it is mine to own rather than yours. The direction I recommend for a chiropractic practice is dry, clean and cool: citrus, green, herbal, pine, cedar, tea. That is the correct signal for a musculoskeletal clinic and the wrong one to have running alongside a freshly mopped floor, because lemon and pine are exactly what the cleaning industry has been using since long before I started. Two things from adjacent families in one room do not read as more of a good thing; they read as one thing not quite matching another, which is worse than either alone. A warmer or sweeter fragrance would collide less - and it would be the wrong register for a clinic all day, which is a bad trade for half an hour of peace.

This is the enquiry I find easiest to answer and hardest to answer well, because the person writing is usually convinced they have been sent a bad batch. They have not. An oil that has been stable in a warehouse in Pune does not turn peculiar between Tuesday and Wednesday. What turned is the room, and the room turns back on its own within the hour, which is the detail that makes the diagnosis obvious once you look for it.
The part I have to own is the overlap. I recommend lemon, pine, sage and cedar for clinics because they read as considered and professional rather than soft, and the cleaning industry reached the same conclusion about lemon and pine a very long time ago. That is not a flaw in the fragrance. It does mean the half hour after a mop is the least flattering half hour of your day, and no reformulation on my side changes that.

Frequently asked questions
How long should I leave the diffuser off after the room is cleaned?
Twenty to forty minutes in most clinics, and the better cue is the floor rather than the clock: when the wet has gone, the busiest part of the window has usually gone with it. Air the building during that time. Bringing a source back into a room that is still damp and still holding the agent is what produces the reading you are asking about.
Has my fragrance oil gone off?
Almost certainly not. An oil that was stable last week does not turn in a day, and the giveaway is that the room reads normally again an hour later without anybody doing anything. If a bottle genuinely has changed, it will be changed all day and every day rather than for half an hour after a clean. Keep reeds out of direct sunlight and away from heat as a matter of course.
Should the bottle be taken out of the room while it is cleaned?
Yes, and it is the single most useful habit on this page. It stops the reeds being wiped or splashed with the agent, which a fibre reed will wick up and carry for days, and it stops the bottle being put back in a different spot. Give it a home outside the room and a marked position inside it.
My reeds smell of cleaning product now. Can they be recovered?
