Bookshop candle ₹379
Cloud trinket dish ₹664
Morning Freshness ₹749
Boond ₹899
If ₹749 is the ceiling: Morning Freshness 50ml ₹749 — the lowest price at which SOSA sells a reed diffuser, and the best rupee in the range.
If ₹500 is the ceiling: a jar candle at ₹379, roughly 15–18 hours, or an Everyday Beautiful Mug at ₹474. Not wax melts — those need a burner the recipient may not own.
The branch where you buy nothing from us: a household that has said it dislikes scent, a home with a newborn, someone who works for you where cash comes first, or a person who already owns the exact thing you were about to send. Four situations, all real, all covered in Part three.
2. If ₹749 is above your ceiling, the answer is a jar candle at ₹379. Misty Mornings, Bookshop, Cozy Corner or Evening Walks, roughly 15–18 hours each. Its one requirement is a household where somebody lights candles. In a home where nobody strikes a match, it is a decorative jar.
3. Two things in this band are not gifts and I will say so. The Hotel Collection at ₹299 and ₹999 is a water-based fragrance for an ultrasonic machine — useless to anyone who does not own one. Wax melts at ₹474 need a burner, which we do not sell and the recipient may not have.
4. The cheapest SOSA reed diffuser is ₹749 and there is nothing below it. No smaller size, no cheaper scent. Everything under that price is a candle, a wax melt, a mug or a ceramic dish.
5. Free shipping starts at ₹499, which compresses the bottom of the ladder. A ₹379 candle does not clear it; a ₹749 diffuser does. The real distance between the cheap gift and the honest one is smaller than the two labels suggest, and it is smaller still if you place one order rather than four.
6. At ₹899 the Boond is the odd one in the band. A 300ml ultrasonic machine, about 150 sq ft, roughly 6 hours a fill, USB-powered with a colour night light. It is a lovely object for a desk or a child's room and it is a commitment — it needs a socket, a decision to switch it on, and its own fragrance, which is the Hotel Collection and never reed oil. Give it to someone you know will use it.
7. Where several people will compare gifts, buy one product several times. Eight names at ₹799 is 8 × ₹799 = ₹6,392 and one decision. Eight different things at similar prices is eight decisions and a visible ranking on somebody's table.
8. And there is a branch where the answer is nothing from us at all — a household that dislikes scent, a home with a newborn, a person who works for you where cash comes first, or someone who already owns the thing you were about to send. Part three is that branch in full.
Everything is composed and handmade in small batches in Pune, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Part one — the three questions that decide it
Six questions is the full tree, but three of them do almost all the work. Each one eliminates a whole section of the catalogue rather than choosing between two similar things, which is what makes them worth asking in order. Answer these three honestly and you will usually be finished before you reach the table in Part two.
Bookshop candle₹379 · 15–18 hrsA candle is the best thing in this band under ₹500 and it has one hard requirement that almost nobody checks. It requires a household with the habit of lighting things, sitting down with them and blowing them out. Plenty of Indian homes do; plenty do not, and in the second kind a jar candle is a decorative object that stays sealed for two years. The question is not whether they like the smell — it is whether they will ever open it. Where the answer is no, the money is better spent on the format that requires no decision at all: a reed diffuser works from the moment the reeds go in and asks nothing of anyone afterwards except a weekly flip. Where the answer is yes, a candle at ₹379 is genuinely good value and the Amber Rose at ₹599 is the more considered version of the same gift.Part two — the routing table
The whole tree in one place. Read down the first column until you find the one fact you actually have about the recipient, then stop. The last column is there because most of these choices have an obvious alternative that is slightly wrong, and knowing why is what stops you second-guessing at checkout.
| The one thing you know | What it routes to | Price | Why not the obvious alternative |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nothing at all ★ | Garden Bloom 50ml | ₹799 | Not Fresh Brew — it is the most divisive thing we make |
| Your ceiling is ₹500 | Jar candle, one scent for everyone | ₹379 | Not wax melts at ₹474 — a burner is needed and not included |
| Your ceiling is exactly ₹750 | Morning Freshness 50ml | ₹749 | Not a ₹664 two-pack — glass outlasts wax by weeks, not hours |
| They have a small flat and a busy kitchen | Evening Calm 50ml for a bedroom | ₹799 | Not Morning Freshness — citrus beside frying reads as cleaner |
| There are small children in the home | Cloud trinket dish or a mug | ₹474–₹664 | Not a diffuser — flammable oil, reachable height, no off switch |
| Somebody in the house lights candles nightly | Amber Rose candle or a two-pack | ₹599–₹664 | Not a diffuser — you would be replacing a habit they enjoy |
| You have seen an ultrasonic machine in the house | Hotel Collection 100ml | ₹999 | Not reed oil — the two lines never interchange in either direction |
| It is a desk, a hostel room or a child's room | Boond, ~150 sq ft, ~6 hrs a fill | ₹899 | Not the Megh at ₹3,499 — about 215 sq ft, not a coverage upgrade |
| They already own a diffuser and you know the scent | The same scent again, or a candle two-pack | ₹664–₹849 | Not a second, different scent — two in one flat produce a seam |
| The honest caveat: every row above assumes the recipient wants a fragranced object in the first place, and a meaningful number of people do not. There is no row here for "buy nothing", because it does not belong in a shopping table — it belongs in the section immediately below, which is where four genuine situations get their honest answer. Note also that the range has no oud, no musk-forward composition and no aquatic; if that is what somebody has asked for, we do not have it. | |||

Part three — the branch where you buy nothing from SOSA
There are four situations under ₹1,000 in which I would rather you closed this page. The first is the person who works for you — house help, a driver, a guard, the people who keep a building running. Cash is flexible, it is the established convention, and it is what most people in that position would choose. A small object alongside it is a courtesy and a good one; an object instead of it is a substitution nobody asked for. If you want to hand over something as well, a Sandalwood jar candle at ₹449 is a sensible thing to add. The order matters more than the object: cash first, separately, and the gift second.
The second is a household that has told you it dislikes scented things. People say this plainly and it gets forgotten, usually because the person shopping likes fragrance and cannot quite believe the objection is serious. It is serious, and no amount of choosing the gentlest composition addresses it. The third is a home with a newborn or a toddler. My reasoning here is practical and I make no health claim in either direction: a reed diffuser is a bottle of flammable oil that cannot be switched off, standing at a height a small child often reaches, and if it tips it marks wood and stone. In both of these, if you still want to send something from us, send the mug at ₹474 or the Cloud trinket dish at ₹664, neither of which is fragranced — or send nothing from us at all, which is a perfectly good outcome.
The fourth is the one people find hardest to accept: the recipient already owns the thing you were about to buy. A household running a diffuser does not want a second, different composition — the two meet in a passage and produce a boundary that smells of neither, and the newer bottle is the one that gets moved into a cupboard. Here the honest options are the same scent again if you know what it is, a candle two-pack at ₹664 which sits in a different register entirely, or a 300ml oil refill at ₹2,399 if your budget can go there, which is excellent value and a poor unwrapping. And one thing that applies to every branch, because Diwali is the festival of lamps: fragrance oil is flammable — a bottle belongs well away from any diya or candle, on a tray, out of reach of children and pets. A diffuser also sits alongside diya smoke, incense and cooking rather than masking or removing any of it; where the air is heavy, the answer is ventilation, not more fragrance.
Part four — the whole under-₹1,000 shelf, audited
Every SOSA item under ₹1,000, with the two facts that decide whether it belongs on your list: whether it works on its own, and where it fails. Nothing here is padded to look longer — this is the band in full, and it is shorter than most people expect.
| Item | Price | Complete on its own? | Where it fails |
|---|---|---|---|
| Garden Bloom 50ml ★ | ₹799 | Yes — six reeds in the box, 6–8 weeks | The few people who reject florals outright |
| Morning Freshness 50ml | ₹749 | Yes | Beside a working kitchen it reads as a cleaning product |
| Evening Calm 50ml | ₹799 | Yes | Lavender has a small, firm group of detractors |
| Fresh Brew 50ml | ₹849 | Yes | The most divisive and the loudest — a poor blind gift |
| Mountain Breeze 50ml | ₹849 | Yes | Dry and austere; can read as cold in a drawing room |
| Boond ultrasonic machine | ₹899 | Needs a socket and its own fragrance | Wasted on anyone who will not switch it on |
| Jar candles — Misty Mornings, Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Evening Walks | ₹379 | Yes — roughly 15–18 hours | A home where nobody lights anything |
| Sandalwood jar candle | ₹449 | Yes | Same as above, at a slightly higher price |
| Wax melts | ₹474 | No — a burner is required and not included | Anyone who does not already own a burner |
| Everyday Beautiful Mugs | ₹474 | Yes, and it is not fragranced at all | Nothing much — which is exactly why it is the safe fallback |
| Bubble candles · ribbed and face mugs · taper candles | ₹474–₹569 | Mugs yes; a taper needs a holder | Tapers, in a house with no candlestick |
| Amber Rose candle | ₹599 | Yes | Same candle-lighting requirement as the ₹379 jars |
| Cloud trinket dish · candle two-pack | ₹664 | Yes | The dish is permanent — it has to earn its shelf |
| Hotel Collection 15ml / 100ml | ₹299 / ₹999 | No — it is a refill for an ultrasonic machine | Anyone without a machine. Never goes in a reed bottle |
Versailles
The under-₹1,000 band is where most of our Diwali orders sit, and it is also the band where I get the most emails afterwards. Almost none of them are about the fragrance. They are about a burner nobody had, a machine nobody owned, or a bottle sent to a house that already had one running. The product was fine every time. The routing was wrong.
So this page is built the way I would answer the question in a shop, which is by asking three things and then handing something over. The buy-nothing branch is in it because I have written it in enough replies to know it is real, and because a shopkeeper who never says "not this, not for you" is not worth trusting on the occasions when they do say yes.
I will not tell you any of these will be appreciated or remembered. Nobody selling you a gift can know that. What I can tell you is what each thing is, what it needs from the person receiving it, how long it lasts and where our range simply does not reach. Everything is blended and poured in small batches in Pune, and a portion of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.
