There is a lot of confident advice online about which essential oils are safe in a diffuser. I am going to give you a different, more honest answer, because I make these machines and I see what damages them. The truly safe choice for a SOSA ultrasonic diffuser is a fragrance built for water. I am not going to hand you a list of raw oils to pour in, because that is the very thing that clogs the plate.
Quick answers — read this first
What fragrance is safe for a SOSA ultrasonic diffuser? SOSA's water-based Hotel Collection fragrance. It is designed to blend into the tank water and atomise cleanly, which is exactly what an ultrasonic plate needs.

Are essential oils safe in an ultrasonic diffuser? Not raw ones, in a SOSA unit. Essential and carrier oils are thick and do not mix with water, so they film over the plate and can clog and damage it. A water-based fragrance avoids that.

What about perfume or room spray? No. Alcohol-based perfumes and sprays are not made for a water tank. The solvent can attack the seals and plate. Use the water-based fragrance instead.
The short answer
Safe: SOSA water-based Hotel Collection fragrance. A few drops in the tank, blends with the water, mists cleanly.
Not safe: Raw essential oils and carrier oils. Too thick, do not mix with water, film and clog the plate.
Not safe: Alcohol-based perfumes and room sprays. Solvent can attack seals and the plate.
The rule: If it does not blend into water, it does not belong in an ultrasonic tank. Cool mist, scent not purification.
Why water-based fragrance, not raw oils (illustrative)SOSA water-based fragrance — mists cleanly, made for the plateRaw essential / carrier oils — thick, can clog & damage the unit
Illustrative only. Ultrasonic diffusers atomise water; a few drops of SOSA's water-based fragrance ride the mist. Thick raw oils sit on the plate and clog it.
Straight answer
Which fragrances are safe to use in an ultrasonic diffuser?
For a SOSA ultrasonic diffuser, the safe choice is SOSA's water-based Hotel Collection fragrance, added a few drops at a time to the water tank. That is the honest answer, and it is a narrower one than most articles give, on purpose. An ultrasonic diffuser atomises water, so the only things that disperse cleanly are things that blend into water. A water-based fragrance does. Raw essential oils, carrier oils and alcohol-based perfumes do not: the oils float as a film over the plate and clog it, and the alcohol solvent can attack the seals. I will not publish a list of raw oils to pour into the tank, because doing that is the most common way people damage these machines. If you want scent that is safe for the unit, use a fragrance made for water.
Safe = SOSA water-based fragrance. Not safe = raw essential oils, carrier oils, alcohol perfumes. If it will not mix with water, keep it out.

Water-based versus oil-based, in plain terms

The whole question comes down to one bit of kitchen science: oil and water do not mix. An ultrasonic diffuser works by vibrating water into a mist, so whatever you add has to become part of that water to be carried out on the mist.

Water-based fragrance
A water-based fragrance like SOSA's Hotel Collection is formulated to disperse through the tank water. A few drops spread evenly, the plate atomises the whole mixture together, and the scent lifts out on the mist. Nothing is left sitting on the plate. This is what the machine is built to run.
Oil-based (raw essential or carrier oil)
Poured into water, a raw oil does not disperse. It floats as a slick, right over the ceramic plate. The plate cannot atomise a thick film, so the mist weakens, and the oil bakes into a sticky residue over time. This is the classic "my diffuser stopped working" story.

So when an article says "these essential oils are safe for your diffuser", the honest footnote it usually leaves out is that they are safe for the air, not for the machine. In a SOSA ultrasonic unit, a raw oil is exactly what you want to avoid.

Why raw oils and perfumes damage the plate

Use only SOSA's water-based Hotel Collection fragrance in these diffusers. Raw essential oils, perfumes and carrier oils are too thick or solvent-heavy, so they can clog the ultrasonic misting plate and damage the unit. Let me be specific about the three things people are tempted to add, and what each does.

What you add Effect on the diffuser
SOSA water-based Hotel Collection Safe. Blends into the water, atomises cleanly, plate stays clear
Raw essential oil Films over the plate, clogs it, weakens the mist, leaves residue
Carrier oil (coconut, jojoba, etc.) Even thicker. Coats the plate quickly and can stop the mist altogether
Alcohol-based perfume or room spray Solvent can attack seals and the plate; not designed for a water tank

A useful test in your head: would this pour cleanly into a glass of water and vanish, or would it float on top? If it floats, it will float on your diffuser plate too, and clog it.

Fill with clean, room-temperature water (filtered or RO in hard-water cities to avoid mineral white dust), never hot water. The mist is cool, with no heat, and it scents a room rather than purifying the air. One more honest point while we are here. A diffuser scents a room and adds a little humidity. It is not an air purifier and does not clean the air, whatever fragrance you use. Choose the water-based fragrance for the machine's sake, and enjoy it for the scent, not as a health device.

The safe rule, one line: in a SOSA ultrasonic diffuser, use SOSA's water-based fragrance and nothing thicker or solvent-based. That single habit protects the plate and the warranty.

A note from Sonal

I trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA in Versailles, but half the questions we get are not about scent at all - they are about the machine. Indian rooms are bone-dry from AC and winter, and most gadget diffusers are too small, too loud, or quit by midnight. So we made three: Boond (300ml, desk), Sukoon (500ml, bedroom, with a remote and mood light) and Megh (6L, whole-room), each shipping with three of our fragrances.

They are cool-mist ultrasonic diffusers - an ultrasonic plate turns water into a fine, cool mist with no heating element, so there is no boiling water or burn risk, and each has an auto shut-off when the tank runs dry.

One thing I say on every listing and will say here: use only SOSA's water-based Hotel Collection fragrance. Raw essential oils, perfumes and carrier oils are thick or solvent-heavy and can clog the misting plate and damage the unit. A few drops of our water-based fragrance in the tank mists cleanly and scents the whole room.

Frequently asked questions

Are essential oils safe in an ultrasonic diffuser?
Not raw ones in a SOSA unit. Essential and carrier oils are thick, do not mix with water and film over the plate, which clogs it. Use a water-based fragrance.
What fragrance is safe for my SOSA diffuser?
SOSA's water-based Hotel Collection fragrance, added a few drops at a time. It blends into the water and atomises cleanly.
Can I put perfume or a room spray in the tank?
No. Alcohol-based perfumes and sprays are not made for a water tank and the solvent can attack the seals and plate.
Why not just use a carrier oil to dilute?
Carrier oils are even thicker than essential oils. They coat the plate fast and can stop the mist altogether.
Does the fragrance purify the air?
No. A diffuser scents the room and adds a little humidity. It does not purify or clean the air, whatever you put in it.
