Nearly everyone who asks me this has already chosen the spot. It is usually a neat plinth beside reception, or a gap at the end of the second display run, and it was chosen because it looked right on the plan. The plan is the wrong document. The one you want shows where the air goes.
Quick answers — read this first
Where does the machine actually go? Where air enters the showroom, roughly a metre off the floor, and upstream of the space you want it to reach. In most Indian showrooms that means near an AC supply grille or the fresh-air intake, on the display-floor side of the entrance rather than at the door. Air movement carries the fragrance from there; nothing else in the building distributes it. Get that one decision right and you will spend far less time fiddling with the intensity setting.

Where should it definitely not go? Four places. Not at the entrance door, where a glass door exchanges the air away every time it opens. Not next to the AC return grille, which draws the output straight out of the room. Not inside a display kitchen - a customer opening a cabinet should find a cabinet. And not in the geometric centre of the hall, which feels fair on a drawing and means the machine is pushing against the airflow in one direction and with it in the other.

What does it cost, and does the position change the machine? The position changes the mounting, not the machine. One SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is freestanding, wall-mountable or mountable into the air handling, which is exactly why it can go where the air is rather than where the furniture allows. Total hardware spend: ₹11,999, one machine. Under about 750 sq ft, a SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 is the honest buy and a Vaayu would be the wrong one.
The short answer
Short answer: where air enters the showroom, about a metre off the floor, upstream of the display floor and well away from the AC return - never at the entrance door and never inside a display kitchen. Placement decides distribution; the intensity dial only decides strength. One Vaayu (₹11,999) covers most display floors, and under about 750 sq ft the honest buy is a Sukoon (₹1,899).
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999), freestanding or wall-mounted about a metre up on the supply side of the display floor, or one SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) where the whole studio is a single small room.
Next step: send the floor plan with the AC supply and return grilles marked and an arrow showing which way the room moves when the front door opens, and we will mark the position on it - Ask for a retail scenting plan.
Where the machine goes in a kitchen showroom - the rule in five linesPut it where air enters, not where the plan looks tidyAbout a metre up - fragrance falls, it does not riseNever at the door, never inside a display kitchenOne Vaayu ₹11,999; under 750 sq ft, a Sukoon ₹1,899Move the machine before you touch the intensity dial
Every one of these follows from the same fact: your building moves air in a particular direction all day, and the machine either works with that or against it. Nothing on the floor plan tells you which.

Straight answer
Where should a scent machine be placed in a modular kitchen showroom?
Where air enters the room, about a metre off the floor, upstream of the floor you want it to reach, and well away from the AC return. That is the whole rule, and the reason it is worth stating so flatly is that placement does far more work than the intensity dial ever will - a machine in the right position at a low setting fills a showroom evenly, and the same machine in the wrong position at twice the setting produces a strong patch and a dead floor. So start by finding the air. Stand under your AC supply grilles and feel which way they blow. Watch what happens when the front door opens - the room moves, and it moves the same way every time. If you want it in writing, hold a strip of tissue at grille height and at door height and see which way it leans. That two-minute exercise tells you more about your showroom than the architect's drawing does. Then put the machine on the supply side of the display floor, upstream of the aisles rather than in the middle of them, so the building's own air movement carries the fragrance across the floor instead of you asking one small fan to do it. Roughly a metre up, because the output is heavier than room air and drifts downward - a unit parked at ceiling height above a double-height display hall is scenting the roof, and one on the floor behind a plinth is scenting the plinth. Now the four positions to refuse. Not at the entrance door. A glass door in an Indian showroom opens dozens of times an hour and each opening exchanges that air with the street, so a machine at the threshold is spending its output on the pavement. Not beside the AC return grille, which is a hole that takes air out of the room - put the machine near it and the return simply removes what you just released. Not inside a display kitchen, ever: the fragrance belongs to the room rather than to a set piece, a customer opening a cabinet door should find a cabinet, and it puts a machine within arm's reach of everyone who walks the floor. And not in the geometric centre, which looks even-handed on a plan and in practice has the machine fighting the airflow in one direction while running with it in the other. The hardware follows the position rather than the other way round: one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is freestanding, wall-mountable or mountable into the air handling, which is what lets it sit where the air is rather than where the furniture happens to allow. Total hardware spend: ₹11,999, one machine. The honest concession, as always: if your showroom is under about 750 sq ft the Vaayu is more machine than you own air for, and one SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 is the right buy. Two standing limits. Fragrance is never used to mask another smell, so if the new displays are still off-gassing laminate and adhesive, no position rescues that - ventilate and wait. And plainly: no one can promise you that ambient scent moves footfall, enquiries or order value, and a supplier who quotes you a figure is selling. Ask for a retail scenting plan and send the floor plan.
Follow the air, not the floor plan. Upstream of the display floor, about a metre up, away from the AC return, never at the door and never inside a display kitchen. One Vaayu ₹11,999, or a Sukoon ₹1,899 under 750 sq ft.
One SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, which mounts three ways - freestanding, wall-mounted or into the HVAC - so the position is chosen from the air path rather than from where there is a spare surface. Under 38dB and waterless, which matters when the right position turns out to be near where people sit. Below 750 sq ft, buy the Sukoon.

The machine, and how it mounts

Placement is a mounting question before it is a product question, so what matters here is how many ways a unit can be fixed. The images link to the product pages so you can check the specifications yourself.

SOSA Vaayu
A display floor from about 1,500 sq ft
SOSA Vaayu
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft. Freestanding, wall-mountable or mountable into the air handling, which is the specification that actually decides placement. 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, app timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, auto-stop and key-lock.
From ₹11,999
SOSA Sukoon
A single-room studio under about 750 sq ft
SOSA Sukoon
Ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft, supplied with three 15ml fragrances. In one small room the placement question shrinks to a shelf away from the door and away from the AC return, and ₹1,899 is the honest spend rather than six times that.
From ₹1,899
SOSA Vaayu
The machine that can go where the air is
SOSA Vaayu
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mount, auto-stop and key-lock. 165 x 80.5 x 215mm and 0.9kg, so a wall position is a bracket rather than a building job. CE, RoHS and SGS certified. Made in India. Cold-air refill oil is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml and further supply should be confirmed with SOSA.

The three questions that find the position

Answer these in order, in the building, on a normal trading day. It takes about ten minutes and it replaces every guess you would otherwise make.

1
Find where air enters
The supply grilles and the front door are doing your distribution for you
Walk the floor with the AC running as it runs on a trading day. Stand under each ceiling grille and feel which are blowing and which are pulling - the ones blowing are supply, the ones pulling are return, and a strip of tissue settles the argument in seconds. Then open the front door and notice which way the room moves. What you are drawing is an air map, and it usually reveals that one end of the showroom is upstream of everything else. That upstream end is where the machine goes, because from there the building distributes for you and the unit never has to work hard.
Tip: Do this at the hour you are busiest, not first thing. The air behaves differently once the doors have been opening for a while.

2
Get the height right
Roughly a metre up, because the output falls rather than rises
Height is the part people improvise and it changes the result more than they expect. Cold-air output is heavier than the room's air and drifts downward, so the useful position is about a metre off the floor - roughly worktop height, which in this building is conveniently the height everything else lives at. Mounted high on a wall in a double-height experience centre, the machine is scenting air that warm air is already carrying further up and away from anybody's nose. Sitting on the floor behind a display plinth, it is scenting the plinth. Wall-mounting exists precisely so the correct height is available even where the floor offers no surface.
Tip: If you are wall-mounting, mark the height with tape and stand at it for a minute before you drill.

One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.

3
Refuse the four bad positions
The door, the return grille, a display kitchen and the middle of the room
Each of these is chosen for a sensible-sounding reason and each fails for a physical one. The door is chosen because it is where customers arrive - and it is where the air leaves. The return grille is chosen because there is usually a tidy spot beneath it - and it removes the output. The display kitchen is chosen because it looks like the natural home for the idea - and it hides the machine inside a set piece a customer will open. The centre of the hall is chosen because it looks fair - and it means half the output travels against the airflow. If your fragrance is uneven, move the machine before you touch the dial; turning it up is how a strong patch and a dead floor become a very strong patch and a dead floor.

The SOSA principle
The floor plan shows you where things stand still. The only document that matters for placing a scent machine is the one nobody draws - which way the air is already moving, all day, whether you help it or not.
Ten minutes with a strip of tissue produces a better plan than any amount of staring at the drawing.
SOSA Vaayu
Three ways to mount it: Freestanding, wall-mounted or into the air handling, so the Vaayu goes where the air path says rather than where the joinery allows. ₹11,999.

The placement plan, position by position

Every position a showroom owner has ever suggested to me, and what actually happens at each one.

The SOSA plan
Where to place a scent machine in a modular kitchen showroom
The position What to do
SOSA VaayuUpstream, near an AC supply grille
The right answer in most showrooms. The building carries the fragrance across the floor and the machine runs at a low setting rather than working hard.
On the entrance threshold
Refuse it. A glass door exchanges that air with the street all day, so this is output spent on the pavement rather than on the showroom.
Beside the AC return grille
Refuse it. The return is a hole that takes air out of the room, so it removes the output before the floor ever gets it.
Inside a display kitchen
Never. The fragrance belongs to the room rather than to a set piece, and a customer opening that cabinet should find a cabinet.
The geometric centre of the hall
Looks fair on the plan and works against itself in the room - half the output travels against the airflow, which is why centred machines produce uneven floors.
SOSA VaayuWall-mounted about a metre up, upstream
The best position in a showroom with no spare floor surface, and usually the tidiest. Mark the height, stand at it, then drill.

If your building runs on central air conditioning, the placement question becomes a slightly different one and is answered in full in where to place the machine in a showroom with central AC. And if you already have a machine and the floor is uneven, start with why some areas of a showroom are strongly scented while others smell of nothing, which is a map problem rather than a capacity one. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel.

SOSA Vaayu
Small enough to sit at the right height: 165 x 80.5 x 215mm and 0.9kg, so a wall bracket at a metre up is a five-minute job rather than a site visit. ₹11,999.
Position first, dial second
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 mounts freestanding, on a wall or into the air handling - so the position is chosen by the air, not by the joinery.

I have moved machines two metres and had owners tell me the whole showroom changed. Nothing changed except that the unit stopped standing under the grille that was taking its work away.

The SOSA kitchen-showroom specification

Two machines cover almost every kitchen showroom, with the Aangan taking over once the sensible position is inside a building's air handling rather than anywhere in a room. Cold-air refill oil is not currently sold separately, so the 400ml supplied runs 90+ days a fill and further supply should be confirmed with SOSA before you plan around it. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Find the air before you choose the spot, keep the machine roughly a metre off the floor, and move it rather than turning it up when the floor reads unevenly. Ambient scent here is a presentation decision like lighting or display styling; it is never used to mask another smell - not laminate, not adhesive, not cooking - and where a showroom is still off-gassing its own fit-out the honest answer is ventilation and time first. And plainly: no one can promise you that ambient scent moves footfall, enquiries or order value, and a supplier quoting you a figure is selling. A note from Sonal

When someone sends me a floor plan with a little cross already marked on it, the cross is almost always in one of two places: just inside the front door, or on the reception desk. Both come from the same instinct, which is that the machine should be where the customer first is. It is a completely reasonable thought and it is the wrong one, because the customer is not what distributes fragrance around a building. Air is, and air is already moving in a direction you did not choose and cannot see.

So the work is really a ten-minute walk rather than a decision. Feel the supply grilles, find the returns, watch what the room does when the door opens, and you will discover that your showroom has an upstream end and a downstream end that no drawing shows. Put the machine at the upstream end, about a metre off the floor, and the building does the distribution for nothing. I have watched owners move a unit two metres and describe the result as though they had bought a bigger machine. They had not - they had simply stopped standing it under the grille that was removing its output.

On hardware I would rather undersell. One Vaayu at ₹11,999 for a display floor from about 1,500 sq ft, mounted freestanding, on a wall or into the air handling, whichever the air path asks for. One Sukoon at ₹1,899 if the whole studio is one small room, where a Vaayu would be the wrong buy. Past roughly 5,000 sq ft with a central air handler, the conversation becomes an Aangan at ₹25,999. Nothing edible in any of them, the level judged from the consultation seat at minute ninety, and nothing bought at all while a new display is still off-gassing. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Where should a scent machine be placed in a modular kitchen showroom?
Where air enters the showroom, roughly a metre off the floor, upstream of the display floor and well away from the AC return grille. Air movement is what distributes fragrance around a building, so the position decides how evenly the floor reads and the intensity dial only decides how strong it is. In most showrooms that means near an AC supply grille on the display-floor side of the entrance, either freestanding or wall-mounted.
Should the machine go at the entrance so customers notice it first?
No. A glass entrance door in a showroom opens dozens of times an hour and every opening exchanges that air with the street, so output released at the threshold largely leaves the building. You still get a scent gradient that is strongest near the door and softens inward, but you get it free from a machine placed further in. Placing the unit at the door spends the output on the pavement rather than on the display floor.
Can I put the scent machine inside one of the display kitchens?
No, and this one is worth being firm about. The fragrance belongs to the room rather than to any single display, a customer who opens that cabinet should find a cabinet, and a machine at arm's reach on a busy floor is a machine whose setting will drift. Keep it on the air path instead, either freestanding about a metre up or wall-mounted, with the key-lock on.
My showroom smells strong in one corner and of nothing elsewhere. Should I buy a second machine?
Almost certainly not. Uneven distribution is an air-path problem rather than a capacity one, and a second machine in the same volume of air does not add coverage - the two outputs meet somewhere and that meeting point reads as a change. Find the supply and return grilles, move the single machine upstream and away from the return, and re-walk the floor a day later before spending anything.
Does better placement mean more customers walking in?
No one can promise that and I will not. SOSA has run no research that would support a figure, and there is no honest way to separate ambient scent from the displays, the lighting, the designer and everything else a customer meets in a ninety-minute visit. What good placement genuinely buys you is an even, quiet room instead of a strong patch and a dead floor, which you can confirm yourself by walking it.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with adjustable intensity, a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, operation under 38dB at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification, which are electrical and compliance marks and not medical approvals. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft and is supplied with three 15ml fragrances; the water-based Hotel Collection (₹299 / ₹999 / ₹1,799) is an ultrasonic fragrance and is not a refill for a waterless cold-air machine. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with 50ml lasting about 6-8 weeks and 130ml about 14-18 weeks. Cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml included and further refills should be confirmed with SOSA. Warranty, annual maintenance, installation and bulk terms are not published and should be confirmed before ordering. Ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision: it makes no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim, it works alongside proper ventilation, cleaning and infection control and is never a substitute for any of them, it is never used to mask another smell, and no claim is made that fragrance influences a patient's decision or any commercial outcome. Clinical areas including procedure, post-procedure and photography rooms are left unscented, and the treating clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan in their own room.
