What is not a good reason to upgrade? Staff saying they cannot smell it. Everybody adapts within about an hour, so that report is honest and almost always wrong - and a bigger machine does not fix it.
Will a machine reach my cabins? No. No machine crosses a closed door, so cabins need their own provision whatever is installed on the floor. Reeds usually remain the right answer there.
Five triggers that justify it, and three that do not
Upgrading from reeds to a machine is the right decision in plenty of stores and a waste of money in plenty of others, and the difference is entirely about which condition prompted it. Here are the five conditions that genuinely justify it, followed by three that do not, because we would rather talk a store out of a purchase than sell one that disappoints. The first real trigger is floor size. Reeds work by passive evaporation at a rate governed by reed surface area, room temperature and nearby air movement, and there is no setting that increases it. On an open trading floor of roughly 1,000 square feet or more, with a street door opening all day and air conditioning cycling, the room replaces its air faster than passive evaporation can supply it. That is a genuine mismatch of scale rather than a defect, and it is the commonest legitimate reason to move up. The second is a need for different levels in different places. A properly specified jewellery store runs the entrance, the display floor and the private cabins at three descending levels, because intensity should be set inversely to exposure time and a cabin holds people for an hour where the floor holds them for fifteen minutes. Reeds have one output. Adding or removing reeds shifts it slightly, but it is not control, so a store that has grown into several rooms with different uses has outgrown a reeds-only scheme even if none of the rooms is especially large. The third is height. A double-height showroom, an atrium or a gallery has a continuous upward current through it, and that current removes output from the occupied zone all day. Reeds cannot compensate, because their rate is fixed. A machine placed in the path of the moving air can. The fourth is footfall. A store whose entrance opens every minute or two is exchanging conditioned air for street air continuously, and the air being scented is being flushed. That does not argue for a stronger setting - high replacement argues for continuous supply - but it does argue for a supply that can be sized to the room rather than one that is fixed. The fifth is multiple branches. A group trying to hold several stores at one standard needs settings that can be specified, written down and scheduled, and scheduling is the only realistic mechanism for that, since no group can rely on twelve managers judging a level by nose in twelve cities. The Vaayu at Rs 11,999 has Bluetooth app and timer control for exactly this reason, and is waterless with no tank at all, coverage up to 1,000 square metres or roughly 10,700 square feet. Now the three reasons that are not sufficient. The first and by far the commonest is that staff say they cannot smell it any more. This report is honest and almost always wrong. Everybody who works in a building adapts to a steady background within about an hour of arriving and then stops perceiving it entirely, which is why nobody can smell their own house. So a member of staff who opened at nine cannot detect the scheme by ten, and by mid-afternoon sincerely believes it has stopped. Upgrading to a machine does not change what they perceive: within an hour of the new machine running, they will have adapted to that too, and the store will be back where it started except with a bigger unit and, usually, a higher setting. That is how stores end up over-scented, ratcheting upward over months while everybody inside continues to report smelling nothing. Before any upgrade, run the correct test: have somebody who does not work in the building walk in from the street at the busiest hour and report the first three or four seconds. If they say the store smells clean, the scheme is working and no purchase is needed. If they notice nothing at all, there is a genuine shortfall. If they notice something else - cooking, damp, a washroom, an air conditioner - the problem is a source, which is the third bad reason and which we will come to. The second insufficient reason is wanting the consultation cabins covered. This is a zoning problem, not a capacity problem. No machine of any type distributes past a closed door, because distribution happens through connected moving air and a door stops it completely. Buying a large machine for the floor in the hope that it will look after the cabins is a purchase based on a misunderstanding, and the cabins will remain exactly as they were. What the cabins need is their own provision, and reeds are frequently the best answer there on their own merits - Rs 749 to Rs 849, three to four months from a bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml, holding a low continuous level with no cycling, nothing to switch on and therefore no possibility of a room smelling prepared for a client's arrival. The third insufficient reason is a smell you want covered. Fragrance combines with an existing smell rather than masking it, and the combination is reliably worse than either alone, with the added message that somebody knew about it. A washroom with a weak extract, a pantry, monsoon damp or an air conditioner unserviced since the fit-out are all fixed by extraction, drying and servicing rather than by a larger fragrance machine. The pantry is never scented at any time, because cooking smell is aerosolised oil and extraction is the answer. If a genuine upgrade is warranted, the shape of it is usually the same: a machine for the open floor, reeds retained behind every door. The Megh at Rs 3,499 with its 6L tank suits a substantial floor and needs filling less often; the Sukoon at Rs 1,799 suits a compact floor or a large cabin; the Boond at Rs 799 a small room; and the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 a large open showroom. Machines take the water-based Hotel Collection at three to six drops per tank with a rinse between scents, and never reed oil, which can damage them - the commonest first-month failure in a newly upgraded store is a machine filled with the reed oil that was already on the shelf. And plan the routine alongside the purchase, because a machine introduces a maintenance obligation that reeds did not have: a named person, a day of the week, a written setting for each unit, and one line in the opening checklist confirming it is running. Hardware nobody owns fails around month four and nobody notices for weeks. Keep one register throughout the building and vary only the level, set rooms behind doors lower than the floor, run continuously rather than in bursts, and judge the level from the street with a fresh nose at the busiest hour rather than from inside. Lower the setting in humid months, because humid air carries fragrance more slowly and clears it less. On register, Quiet Luxury, with white tea, bergamot and cedar, is the safe general answer; White Tea Serenity, with white tea, aloe and cedar, is the softest and suits enclosed rooms; Forest Suite, with cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves, suits timber-led stores; Old-World Glamour, with amber, violet and woods, suits a large warm gold-led floor; Warm Welcome, with citrus, floral and sandalwood, is an entrance register; Tea Garden, with jasmine, green tea and white tea, is a soft green-floral; and Lobby Bar, with citrus, pepper and amber, is characterful. Staff quarters and utility areas get nothing, and staff should have a physical off switch and never have to justify using it. We make no claim that fragrance affects mood, comfort, dwell time, purchase behaviour or spend. The seven registers are Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml, and they are SOSA's own interpretations - we are independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. The commonest reason stores upgrade is the one an upgrade will not fix
Upgrading is right in plenty of stores and a waste in plenty of others, and the difference is which condition prompted it. Five justify it. Floor size: reeds evaporate passively at a rate set by surface area, temperature and nearby air movement, with no setting to increase it, so an open floor above roughly 1,000 square feet with a street door and cycling cooling replaces its air faster than they can supply it. Different levels in different rooms: a properly specified store runs entrance, floor and cabins at three descending levels, because intensity runs inversely to exposure time, and reeds have one output. Height: a double-height space, atrium or gallery has a continuous upward current removing output from the occupied zone all day, and reeds cannot compensate. Footfall: a door opening every minute or two exchanges conditioned air for street air continuously. And multiple branches: a group holding several stores at one standard needs settings that can be written down and scheduled, since no group can rely on twelve managers judging by nose in twelve cities - SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 has timer control for exactly that, waterless with no tank and coverage to 1,000 m². Three reasons are not sufficient. The commonest is staff saying they cannot smell it: honest and almost always wrong, because everybody adapts within about an hour of arriving, and upgrading changes nothing about what they perceive - within an hour of the new machine running they will have adapted to that too, leaving the store where it started with a bigger unit and usually a higher setting. Test before buying: somebody who does not work there walks in from the street at the busiest hour and reports the first three seconds. Clean means no purchase. Nothing at all means a real shortfall. Something else means a source. The second is wanting the cabins covered, which is a zoning problem rather than a capacity one - no machine crosses a closed door, so buying a bigger floor unit leaves the cabins exactly as they were; reeds from Rs 749 are frequently the best answer there anyway, holding a low continuous level with nothing to switch on so a room never smells prepared. The third is a smell you want covered: fragrance combines with it rather than masking it, and extraction, drying and servicing are the answers. If an upgrade is warranted the shape is usually a machine on the floor with reeds retained behind every door - SOSA Megh Rs 3,499, SOSA Sukoon Rs 1,799, SOSA Boond Rs 799. Machines take the Hotel Collection at three to six drops per tank, never reed oil, which is the commonest first-month failure in a newly upgraded store. Plan the routine alongside the purchase. From Rs 299 for 15ml. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards. Volume pricing is quoted on WhatsApp.

Versailles
Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.
And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
