If you like floral or jasmine: Garden Bloom ₹799 · British rose, night-blooming jasmine · 8.9.
If you like woody, or want it to smell expensive: Mountain Breeze ₹849 · Himalayan pine, sage, Indian cedar · 9.4.
If you like warm and cosy: Fresh Brew ₹849 · Coorg coffee, Kerala vanilla, caramel · 9.5.
If you like clean, or you are buying blind: Evening Calm ₹799 · Kashmir lavender, chamomile · 8.9, the softest we make.
The honest gap: there is no oud anywhere at SOSA, in any format, at any price, and no sandalwood, vetiver, amber, aquatic, clean-linen or single-note rose in the reed line. Where a note genuinely exists on the ultrasonic side — real sandalwood, real vetiver, real amber — this page sends you there and names the machine it needs.
2. If you are buying for somebody else, buy Evening Calm at ₹799. At 8.9 it is the softest thing we make, which makes it the least likely to be too much in a house you do not live in. The least safe blind buy in the range is Fresh Brew at 9.5 — a wonderful bottle for the person who wants it and an imposition on the person who does not.
3. If you already know your family, the answer is mechanical. Fresh and citrus go to Morning Freshness ₹749. Floral and jasmine go to Garden Bloom ₹799. Woody goes to Mountain Breeze ₹849. Warm and cosy go to Fresh Brew ₹849. Clean goes to Evening Calm ₹799. There is no sixth branch.
4. If your answer is oud, sandalwood, vetiver or amber, the reed line has nothing for you and I will not pretend otherwise. There is no oud anywhere at SOSA in any format. Sandalwood, vetiver and amber exist only on the water-based ultrasonic side — Four Seasons-inspired, 1 Hotels-inspired and St. Regis-inspired at ₹299 — and those need a machine, not a bottle of sticks.
5. Then set the reed count before you judge the scent. Six reeds for a hall, living room or kitchen; three or four for a bedroom or home office; two or three for a bathroom, where a 50ml will run close to three months. This is free, it is reversible in ten seconds, and it moves the result further than any swap between our five scents can.
Alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free, IFRA-compliant, 0 ppm formaldehyde. Composed in Pune. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Part one — how to decide
Two principles govern everything below, and between them they settle most of the questions people send us. Neither is about which scent is best. Both are about the shape of the decision itself, which is where buyers usually go wrong long before they get as far as comparing note lists. The first principle is that dislikes are better evidence than likes. The second is that the room and the reed count decide more than the bottle does. A third card follows, because the two principles taken together point at one practical instruction that neither gives on its own.
Evening Calm₹799Ask somebody what they like and you get a mood: something fresh, something luxurious, something that smells expensive. Ask them what they cannot stand and you get a specification: not sweet, nothing that smells like a temple, anything but vanilla. Dislikes are specific and they are stable. Someone who has hated vanilla for fifteen years will still hate it next April; someone who wants "fresh" this week wanted "cosy" in December and will want it again. Likes drift with the season, the mood and the last hotel lobby you walked through. Dislikes do not.
Morning Freshness₹749Here is the number that should reframe the whole purchase. The complete SOSA strength scale spans 0.6 of a point: Evening Calm 8.9, Garden Bloom 8.9, Morning Freshness 9.0, Mountain Breeze 9.4, Fresh Brew 9.5. That is the entire distance between the quietest thing we make and the deepest. Swapping the bottle moves you a fraction of a point. Moving from six reeds to three moves you further than that, and it costs nothing.
300ml refill₹2,399If dislikes are the reliable evidence and reed count is the real dial, the instruction that follows is straightforward: choose the scent that violates none of your stated dislikes, start it on fewer reeds than you think you need, and add one reed at a time. Going up is pleasant. Coming down is not, because a room that has been over-scented for a week holds the base notes in the soft furnishings and takes days to clear even after you pull reeds out.
Part two — the complete finder
This is the heart of the page, and the only part of it you strictly need. The left column is not a fragrance family; it is the sentence a customer actually says, transcribed more or less as it arrives in our inbox. The remaining columns are the whole answer: the bottle, the size, the number of reeds to start with, and what it costs. Where the honest answer is we do not make that, the row says so and points at the nearest real thing rather than at the nearest sale.
Two notes before you read it. First, the reed counts given are starting points for a typical room of the type named, and you should adjust upwards rather than downwards, for the reason set out above. Second, several rows send you to the Hotel Collection, which is a water-based, ultrasonic-only product. It cannot go into a reed diffuser and reed oil cannot go into an ultrasonic machine. The two lines never cross over in either direction, and there is no hotel-inspired reed diffuser at SOSA. Those rows therefore need a machine as well as a fragrance: Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899 or Megh ₹3,499.
| What you say | What to buy | Size | Reeds to start | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| "I like fresh" | Morning Freshness — Malabar lemon, peppermint, eucalyptus, 9.0 | 50ml | 4 | ₹749 |
| "I like citrus" | Morning Freshness — the only citrus in the range, and real cold-pressed lemon rather than a reconstruction | 50ml, or 130ml for a kitchen | 6 in a kitchen or bathroom | ₹749 / ₹1,249 |
| "I like floral" | Garden Bloom — British rose over night-blooming jasmine, 8.9 | 50ml | 4 | ₹799 |
| "I like jasmine" | Garden Bloom — sambac/mogra jasmine with the indole held below the fecal threshold, so it stays floral above 30°C | 50ml | 4 | ₹799 |
| "I like woody" | Mountain Breeze — Himalayan pine, sage, Indian cedar, 9.4, the deepest woody we make | 50ml, or 130ml for a hall | 4 in a bedroom, 6 in a hall | ₹849 / ₹1,349 |
| "I like warm or cosy" | Fresh Brew — Coorg coffee, Kerala vanilla, soft caramel, 9.5, the deepest in the range | 50ml | 3, and add only if you are sure | ₹849 |
| "I like clean" | Evening Calm for soft clean; Morning Freshness for spa-bathroom clean | 50ml | 3 | ₹799 / ₹749 |
| "I like oud" | Nothing. There is no oud at SOSA in any format. The nearest resinous warmth is St. Regis-inspired (amber · violet · woods), ultrasonic only; in a reed, the nearest depth is Mountain Breeze | 15ml + machine, or 50ml reed | n/a · 6 for the reed | ₹299 + ₹899 / ₹849 |
| "I like sandalwood" | No sandalwood reed exists. Four Seasons-inspired (citrus · floral · sandalwood) genuinely contains it — water-based, ultrasonic only | 15ml + Boond | n/a — machine | ₹299 + ₹899 |
| "I like vetiver" | No vetiver reed exists. 1 Hotels-inspired (cedarwood · vetiver · green leaves) is real vetiver — ultrasonic only | 15ml + Sukoon | n/a — machine | ₹299 + ₹1,899 |
| "I like amber" | No amber reed exists. St. Regis-inspired (amber · violet · woods) or W Hotels-inspired (citrus · pepper · amber) — ultrasonic only | 15ml + machine | n/a — machine | ₹299 + ₹899 |
| "I don't like sweet" | Mountain Breeze — no sweetness in it at all. Then Morning Freshness. Avoid Fresh Brew | 50ml | 4 | ₹849 |
| "I don't like floral" | Mountain Breeze, then Morning Freshness. Avoid Garden Bloom | 50ml | 4 | ₹849 / ₹749 |
| "I don't like woody" | Morning Freshness or Garden Bloom. Avoid Mountain Breeze | 50ml | 4 | ₹749 / ₹799 |
| "I hate vanilla" | Any of the four that are not Fresh Brew. Fresh Brew uses real Kerala vanilla rather than vanillin, which some vanilla-haters tolerate — but I would not buy on that hope | 50ml | 4 | ₹749–₹849 |
| "I don't like heavy" | Evening Calm at 8.9 — and the real lever is reed count, not scent choice | 50ml | 3 | ₹799 |
| "I don't like perfumey smells" | Evening Calm at three reeds. The whole scale is only 8.9–9.5, so this is a dosing question far more than a scent question | 50ml | 3 | ₹799 |
| "I normally don't like home fragrance" | Evening Calm at two or three reeds — or Mountain Breeze if the objection is specifically to sweetness and floralcy | 50ml | 2–3 | ₹799 / ₹849 |
| "I want it to smell expensive" | Mountain Breeze in the hall, committed to and never rotated. The expensive signal is consistency and un-locatability, not intensity | 130ml | 6, permanently | ₹1,349 |
| "It's a gift and I don't know their taste" | Evening Calm — the safest blind buy at 8.9, the least likely to be too much in a house you do not live in. Least safe: Fresh Brew at 9.5 | 50ml | 3 — say so on the card | ₹799 |
And here is the same range read the other way round: not by the question but by the bottle. Five scents, everything in each of them, where it sits on the scale, how long it runs in both sizes, and what both sizes cost. This is the complete SOSA reed line. There is no sixth scent, no seasonal edition and no limited release waiting behind it.

Part three — the room, the reeds and the sizes
This is the practical summary of the entire programme, in the order you would walk through a flat. The hall takes six reeds and a commitment. It is the only room where I would tell you to pick one scent and never rotate it, because the hall is where a house announces itself, and a house that announces something different every eight weeks reads as a shop rather than a home. Mountain Breeze is the one I would commit to there. The living room takes the 130ml with all six reeds — anything above roughly 150 sq ft does — and runs 14–18 weeks on a bottle. The bedroom takes three. The home office takes three or four, and does better with something dry and green than with anything sweet, because sweetness in a room you concentrate in becomes a distraction by the third hour. The bathroom takes two, at which point a 50ml runs close to three months rather than eight weeks. The kitchen takes the 130ml with six reeds and citrus only — Morning Freshness, and nothing else, because citrus sits alongside cooking while floral and gourmand argue with it.
Sizing follows from that and is genuinely simple. The 50ml suits rooms up to about 150 sq ft — bathroom, bedroom, home office — and runs 6–8 weeks. The 130ml is for anything above 150 sq ft — living room, kitchen, open-plan — and runs 14–18 weeks. A ₹749 bottle is not a small version of a ₹1,249 bottle; it is the correct bottle for a smaller room, and buying the large one for a bathroom produces a bathroom that is too much rather than a bathroom that is good value. On the maintenance side, flip the reeds every three to five days for the bright and green scents — Morning Freshness and Mountain Breeze — and every five to seven days for Garden Bloom, whose heavier floral material does not need the same encouragement. Flipping gives you a lift for nothing; over-flipping simply spends the bottle faster.
Placement is where most of the remaining performance lives, because a reed diffuser has no fan and depends entirely on the room's own air. Put it in the traffic path — near a doorway, on a hall console, on the counter a metre from where you stand — because the movement of people through a room is what carries the fragrance. Never in a dead corner, where it will scent one cubic metre beautifully and the rest of the room not at all. Never under a split AC draught, which strips the light top-end material in days and leaves you living with the base of a fragrance you chose for its top. And the sequence matters: ventilate first, then diffuse. A reed diffuser sets a baseline; it is not a corrective. It will not remove last night's cooking, damp or cigarette smoke, and asking it to do so is how people end up with a room that smells of both.
If you are scenting more than one room, the duos are cheaper than buying twice and are already paired for the way homes are actually used. Day & Night at ₹1,498 is Morning Freshness and Evening Calm — bright where you start the day, soft where you end it. Fresh & Grounded at ₹1,548 is Morning Freshness and Mountain Breeze — bright where you wake, green where you think. Warmth & Bloom at ₹1,598 is Fresh Brew and Garden Bloom, which is the winter-evening pairing. Once you know which bottle you keep going back to, stop buying bottles: a 300ml refill is ₹2,399 and a 500ml is ₹3,499, and both top up the glass and the reeds you already own.
Part four — the honest gaps, in full, and what to buy instead
Here is the complete list of what SOSA does not make, said in one place rather than discovered one disappointment at a time. There is no oud anywhere at SOSA, in any format, at any price — not in the reed line and not in the Hotel Collection. In the reed line specifically there is no sandalwood, no vetiver, no teak, no patchouli, no amber, no incense and no resin. There is no aquatic, marine or ozonic scent, no clean-linen or cotton accord, no aldehydic soapy scent and no musk-led scent — soft musk appears only as a drydown beneath Evening Calm and Garden Bloom, which is a different thing from a musk. There is no tuberose, gardenia, lily, peony, orange blossom, osmanthus, ylang-ylang or magnolia, and no single-note rose: Garden Bloom is a rose over jasmine, not a soliflore. And there is no hotel-inspired reed diffuser at all.
Several of those absences have a real answer elsewhere in the house, and it is worth being precise about which. The Hotel Collection is 1 Hotels-inspired ₹299 (cedarwood · real vetiver · green leaves), Four Seasons-inspired ₹299 (citrus · floral · real sandalwood), St. Regis-inspired ₹299 (real amber · violet · woods), Westin-inspired ₹299 (white tea · aloe · cedar) and Ritz-Carlton-inspired ₹299 (white tea · bergamot · cedar), which are the two cleanest scents in the house, Shangri-La-inspired ₹299 (jasmine · green tea · white tea), the green jasmine, and W Hotels-inspired ₹299 (citrus · pepper · amber). Every one of them is water-based and ultrasonic-only, and needs a machine: Boond ₹899 for up to 150 sq ft, Sukoon ₹1,899 for 270–320 sq ft with three 15ml scents included, or Megh ₹3,499 for runtime. The two lines never cross over in either direction. Hotel Collection fragrance cannot go into a reed bottle, reed oil cannot go into an ultrasonic machine, and no amount of wanting it to work changes that.
| Buy | What it is | When it is the right answer | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Mountain Breeze 50ml ★ | Himalayan pine, sage, Indian cedar — 9.4, the deepest woody | The one-bottle answer, the woody answer and the "smells expensive" answer | ₹849 |
| 2. Evening Calm 50ml | Kashmir lavender, chamomile, soft musk drydown — 8.9, the softest we make | Bedrooms, gifts, and anyone who says home fragrance is usually too much | ₹799 |
| 3. Morning Freshness 50ml | Cold-pressed Malabar lemon, peppermint, eucalyptus globulus — 9.0 | Fresh, citrus, bathrooms, and the only scent I would put in a kitchen | ₹749 |
| 4. Garden Bloom 50ml | British rose over night-blooming jasmine, indole held below the fecal threshold | Floral and jasmine, and entryways where you want to be noticed | ₹799 |
| 5. Fresh Brew 50ml | Coorg coffee, Kerala vanilla, soft caramel — 9.5, the deepest in the range | Warm and cosy, winter, studies. The least safe blind gift | ₹849 |
| 6. Fresh & Grounded duo | Bright and green together — two rooms, two registers, one box | When you are scenting a flat rather than a room | ₹1,548 |
| 7. 300ml refill | Tops up the glass and reeds you already own; 500ml is ₹3,499 | Once one bottle is clearly the one you keep going back to | ₹2,399 |
| The honest gap: oud, sandalwood, vetiver, amber and the rest | No oud anywhere at SOSA in any format. No sandalwood, vetiver, teak, patchouli, amber, incense or resin in the reed line; no aquatic, marine or ozonic; no clean-linen or cotton; no aldehydic soapy scent; no musk-led scent; no tuberose, gardenia, lily, peony, orange blossom, osmanthus, ylang-ylang or magnolia; no single-note rose; and no hotel-inspired reed diffuser. Real sandalwood, vetiver and amber exist only in the water-based Hotel Collection, which is ultrasonic-only | Said plainly, once, rather than stretched to fit across a hundred pages | ₹299 + a machine from ₹899 |
Versailles
This is the hundredth page of this programme and the last one I will write for it, so let me say the thing all ninety-nine of the others were circling. The most useful thing a perfumer can do for a customer is narrow the field honestly, not widen it. Every instinct in this trade runs the other way. You are taught to have an answer for every request, and there is always a way to stretch a bottle to cover a note it does not contain — call the cedar in Mountain Breeze a sandalwood, call the caramel in Fresh Brew an amber, and nobody could prove you wrong for a month or two.
I have refused to do that on every one of these pages, and it has cost real sales. Somebody arrives wanting oud, reads the first line, and leaves. That is a bad afternoon and a good decision, because the alternative is that they buy something, live with it for eight weeks, and learn that we were willing to be vague with them. There are five reed scents. That is not modesty and it is not a soft launch; it is the number I can make properly with real Malabar lemon, real Kashmir lavender, real Himalayan pine, real Coorg coffee and jasmine held below the threshold where heat turns it. A sixth would have had to be a compromise, and a compromise on a shelf next to five things that are not one is visible from a long way off.
So if this page has done its job, you are leaving with one bottle in mind rather than five, and with a clear idea of which rooms it belongs in and how many sticks to put in it. Start on three. Flip them on a Sunday. Give it a fortnight before you decide. And if what you wanted was oud, or sandalwood in a reed, or clean linen, I hope the honest no was worth more to you than a plausible yes would have been. Everything is composed and made in Pune, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.
