Small is a legitimate brief, not a lesser one. The trouble is that most small-gift lists quietly stop being honest at the bottom of the range, so this page starts at the floor: what the smallest genuinely worthwhile gift is, and what to do when your budget sits below it.
Quick answers — read this first
What is a good small Teachers' Day gift? A 3ml attar at ₹379 to ₹399. It is the smallest thing in the SOSA range that works as a gift rather than as a token: oil in a small bottle with a dab applicator, alcohol-free and DPG-free, six to eight hours on skin. Adaa at ₹379 is the lightest and the only one with no oudh, Mastani at ₹389 is night jasmine and rose, Nawaab at ₹399 is the deepest. Give it only where you have some idea of what the teacher likes; otherwise put the same money towards a room gift with classmates.

Is there a good teacher gift under ₹300? Not in our range, and I would rather say that than dress something up. The 15ml bottles at ₹299 are refills for an ultrasonic machine and are not a gift — giving one to a teacher who does not own the machine is giving them a bottle of liquid with no use. Below ₹300 there are two honest options. Pool with classmates so the money buys one real thing. Or give a handwritten letter and nothing else, which costs nothing and is the item most likely to still exist in a year.

Is a small gift disrespectful to a teacher? No, and the opposite mistake is far more common. A gift warmer or larger than the relationship leaves a teacher working out how to respond, particularly where they mark your work. A small, well-chosen thing with a specific handwritten note reads as considered. A large one without a note reads as an errand that somebody ran. Size is not the measure here; fit is. And on a day when the whole school gives at once, a small specific gift is more distinctive than a large generic one.
The short answer
Short answer: The honest floor for a small teacher gift is a 3ml attar at Rs 379 to Rs 399, which is a real gift at a size that stays proportionate. Below Rs 300 the range has nothing worth giving, and refill bottles are not presents. At that budget the two real options are pooling with classmates, or a handwritten letter alone, which is the item most likely to survive the year.
The pick: SOSA Adaa at ₹379 for 3ml where their taste runs light, or SOSA Mastani at ₹389 where it runs to jasmine and rose. Under ₹300, pool or write a letter.
Next step: Tell us the real budget and who the teacher is, and we will tell you honestly whether to buy anything. Ask SOSA to help choose a gift.

Most small-gift lists stop being honest at the bottom of the range. This one starts there, because that is where the useful advice is.
Straight answer
What is genuinely small, still worth giving, and where does the floor sit?
The floor sits at a 3ml attar, and it is worth explaining both halves of that. What makes 3ml a real gift rather than a token is that it is a complete thing. It is oil in a glass bottle with a dab applicator, alcohol-free and DPG-free on a sandalwood and jojoba carrier, and it lasts six to eight hours on skin. SOSA Adaa at ₹379 is the lightest of the four — bergamot, green cardamom and neroli over jasmine sambac — and the only one with no oudh. SOSA Mastani at ₹389 is litchi and pink pepper over night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose. SOSA Nawaab at ₹399 is the deepest, white royal oud and aged tobacco leaf, and it is a preference rather than a default. The 3ml size is also the reason this works across a teaching relationship: it is small enough to stay proportionate, so it does not arrive asking to be acknowledged. What sits below it is nothing. There is no SOSA product under ₹300 that I would give a teacher. The 15ml Hotel Collection bottles at ₹299 exist, but they are refills for an ultrasonic machine — handing one to somebody who does not own the machine is handing them a bottle of liquid with no use, and I would rather lose the sale than see that happen. So here is what to do at that budget instead. Pool with classmates: five students at a small amount each reach a ₹749 reed, and ten reach the trio at ₹1,055, and one real thing is worth more than ten tokens. Or give a handwritten letter and nothing at all beside it. That is not a consolation prize. On a morning when a teacher is handed twenty objects, the letters are what get read that evening and kept afterwards, and the object is only ever what a note arrives in. One more caution about small worn gifts: even at ₹379, an attar goes on skin and assumes something about taste, so give it where you have some idea what they like and choose a reed otherwise. If you want help deciding at a genuinely tight budget, ask us to help choose a gift.
The floor is a 3ml attar at ₹379 to ₹399. Below ₹300 there is nothing worth giving, so pool with classmates or write a letter and give that.
The smallest thing here I would actually hand to a teacher is SOSA Adaa at ₹379 for 3ml — bergamot, green cardamom and neroli over jasmine sambac, on white musk and cedarwood. The lightest of the four and the only one with no oudh, which makes it the least assertive of the small options.

What to buy, at the small end

Sizing, plainly. 3ml is roughly a term's worth of occasional wearing, not a year's — that is what makes it proportionate rather than a statement. 6ml at ₹669 to ₹699 is the next step up and belongs to a longer relationship. And there is nothing in the range under ₹300: the ₹299 bottles are machine refills, not presents, and I will not pretend otherwise.

Three things to be straight about

Three things to be straight about when the budget is genuinely small.

1
First, where the floor actually is
A 3ml attar, and nothing below ₹300
I would rather write this sentence than a paragraph of filler about token gifts. The smallest thing in the SOSA range that works as a gift for a teacher is a 3ml attar at ₹379 to ₹399. It is complete, it is unusual enough to be interesting, and at that size it stays proportionate to a teaching relationship. Below ₹300 there is nothing. The 15ml bottles at ₹299 are refills for an ultrasonic machine, and a refill given to somebody without the machine is a bottle of liquid they cannot use. Plenty of gift lists would quietly include it to have something in the band. I would rather tell you the band is empty and point you somewhere better, because a bad gift is worse than a letter.
Tip: If somebody offers you a small teacher gift at a suspiciously low price, check whether it is a refill, a sample or a part of a set. Those are the three usual culprits.
2
Second, what to do below the floor
Pool, or write — both are better than buying something thin
Pooling is the first answer and it scales beautifully. A handful of students at a small amount each reach a 50ml reed at ₹749; a larger group reaches the attar trio at ₹1,055 or a duo at ₹1,498. One real object from several people is worth more than several tokens, it does not have to be carried home in a stack, and it takes the pressure off anybody who cannot contribute much. The second answer is to give a letter and nothing else, and I mean this seriously rather than as a softener. Teachers keep paper. On a day when a pile of objects arrives at once, the writing is what gets read in the evening and what is still in a drawer the following year.

Third, small does not mean safe
A ₹379 attar still goes on skin, and still assumes a taste
It is tempting to think that a small worn gift avoids the worn-versus-room problem. It does not. A 3ml attar is inexpensive, but it is still a personal object: it goes on skin, it is worn in front of a class, and choosing it assumes you know something about what the teacher likes. Fragrance sensitivity is real and cannot be checked from outside the relationship. So the same test applies at every price: can you name something they already wear or have mentioned liking? If yes, the 3ml attar is a lovely small gift. If no, put the money towards a pooled room gift instead, or give a letter. Small is a constraint on size, not a licence to skip the question that matters.
The SOSA principle
A refill bottle is not a small gift, it is a spare part. The distinction matters because the entire under-₹300 band in this category is built out of things like that.
A statement about what the product is for, and no claim about what any gift does for the person receiving it.
SOSA Adaa Attar
The honest floor of the range: Adaa, 3ml at ₹379 — bergamot, cardamom and neroli over jasmine sambac. The lightest of the four, and the only one with no oudh.

What you have What to do
SOSA Mastani AttarUnder ₹300
Buy nothing from us. Pool with classmates, or write a letter and give that alone. The ₹299 bottles are machine refills, not gifts.
Around ₹379 to ₹399
A 3ml attar — Adaa, Mastani or Nawaab — but only where you have some idea of the register they like.
Around ₹749
A 50ml reed diffuser. If you can reach this alone or by pooling, it is the more reliable gift than a small worn one.
A group with a little each
Pool to ₹1,055 for the attar trio, or ₹1,498 for a reed duo. One object from everybody, and nobody standing in front.

The band below this one is handled properly in teacher gifts under ₹500, and the pooled version of the same budget is in a group Teachers' Day gift from the entire class. SOSA is an independent Indian brand; nothing here is affiliated with any perfume house, designer or school, and no institution is a SOSA customer.

SOSA Mastani Attar
A small gift with more depth to it: Mastani, 3ml at ₹389 — night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose over Mysore sandalwood, oudh and vanilla.
Small, and worth giving
A 3ml attar at ₹379 to ₹399, or a pooled ₹749 reed — and nothing at all below ₹300

Most small-gift lists include something in the cheapest band because the band would otherwise be empty. It is empty. Saying so is more useful than filling it.

The limits, said plainly. There is nothing in the SOSA range under ₹300 that is worth giving a teacher, and the ₹299 bottles are refills for an ultrasonic machine rather than presents. A small worn gift still assumes a taste, so choose a reed or a letter where you are guessing. Attar longevity is six to eight hours on skin. Many schools have rules about gifts to staff — check before you buy. We make no promise about delivery timing, gift wrapping, personalisation or stock.

A note from Sonal

The under-₹300 question arrives constantly, usually from students, and it is the one place where I have had to decide what kind of shop I want to run. It would be easy to point at the ₹299 refill bottles and let somebody buy one. They are ours, they are in the right band, and nobody would complain. But a refill without the machine is a bottle of liquid with nothing to put it in, and a teacher receiving one would know that immediately.

So the floor is a 3ml attar, and I am comfortable saying the band below it is empty. What I would like people to take from that is not that they cannot give anything — it is that the two things that work below the floor cost less than the things that do not. Pooling turns small amounts into one real object. A letter costs nothing at all and is the item most likely to still be in a drawer next September.

As everywhere here, this is an ambience decision and not a claim of any outcome, therapeutic or medical. A fragrance sits alongside whatever is already in a room and we make no claim that it removes an odour; the person it is given to decides what happens to it, and their judgement overrides mine. Alcohol-free and DPG-free are ingredient facts about the attars rather than skin or allergy claims — patch-test, and where somebody may be sensitive, give the room or the letter instead. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

What is the smallest teacher gift worth giving?
A 3ml attar at Rs 379 to Rs 399. It is a complete object rather than a token: oil with a dab applicator, alcohol-free and DPG-free, six to eight hours on skin. Adaa at Rs 379 is the lightest and has no oudh, Mastani at Rs 389 is night jasmine and rose, Nawaab at Rs 399 is the deepest. Give it where you have some idea of what the teacher likes.
Is there anything under Rs 300?
Not in our range. The 15ml bottles at Rs 299 are refills for an ultrasonic machine, so giving one to a teacher who does not own the machine hands them a bottle of liquid with no use. The two honest options at that budget are to pool with classmates so the money buys one real thing, or to give a handwritten letter and nothing else.
Is a small gift rude to a teacher?
No. The far more common mistake is a gift larger or warmer than the relationship, which leaves a teacher working out how to respond, especially where they mark your work. A small well-chosen thing with a specific handwritten note reads as considered. On a day when the whole school gives at once, a small specific gift is also more distinctive than a large generic one.
How many students need to pool to reach something good?
Fewer than people expect. A handful at a small amount each reaches a 50ml reed at Rs 749. A larger group reaches the attar trio at Rs 1,055 or a reed duo at Rs 1,498. Agree the amount before collecting, keep it low enough that nobody is squeezed, and check what your school allows.
Does a cheap attar avoid the problem of guessing their taste?
No. A 3ml attar is inexpensive but still personal: it goes on skin and is worn in front of a class, so choosing one still assumes you know something about their taste, and fragrance sensitivity cannot be checked from outside. The test is the same at every price. If you cannot name something they already wear, give the room or give a letter.
