Why does the 4BHK label not settle it? Because a 4BHK ranges from roughly 1,600 to 3,200 sq ft depending on city, builder and which area figure is quoted.
What if the machine is right but expensive? Split it with siblings or parents. A pooled family gift is the normal way machines in this band get given.
He is your brother - so use the two things only siblings can
Start with why this particular label is unhelpful, because it explains the hesitation. Every other property description carries information: a villa is large, a penthouse is on top, a studio is small. A 4BHK tells you there are four bedrooms and almost nothing else, because the amount of house wrapped around those bedrooms varies enormously. In some cities a premium four bedroom flat is sixteen hundred square feet of carpet area with compact bedrooms and a single living-dining strip; in others it is three thousand two hundred square feet with a family lounge, a formal living room, a separate dining room and a utility. Both are accurately described as 4BHKs, and the difference between them is exactly the difference between these two products being right and wrong. So the label cannot decide it, and the two facts that can are facts you can simply ask your brother, which is the advantage of this particular relationship. The first is the area, and specifically which area. Indian property carries three figures that are not interchangeable: carpet area is the space inside the walls, built-up adds the walls and usually a balcony, and super built-up adds a share of the lobby, staircase and corridor - the largest of the three and the one usually quoted, because it is the one on the brochure. For scenting purposes the number that matters is the space the air is actually in, so ask for carpet or built-up. Somebody describing a two thousand four hundred square foot 4BHK may have an eighteen hundred square foot home, and buying on the larger figure is how a flat ends up over-scented. The second fact is the layout, and it can move a borderline case either way: if the living, dining and kitchen run together with no doors between them and the hall opens into the same space, the flat has one large volume and a single bottle standing in it produces a scented pocket with a great deal of unscented air - which is the strongest case for a machine. If instead there is a living room with a door, a separate dining room and a kitchen that closes, then every room can have its own correctly sized source, and four bottles will beat one machine at the same area. An open eighteen hundred square foot flat can be a better machine case than a compartmented twenty-two hundred. With those two answers the decision is mechanical. Over roughly two thousand square feet of connected volume: the SOSA Vaayu at eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees, a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated for up to a thousand cubic metres, stated as about two thousand to three thousand square feet. It produces one even strength across the flat rather than pockets, and it reaches the two spaces that make a large flat feel finished and that nobody can put a bottle in: the entrance and the internal corridor. Waterless, so no tank, no humidity added in a closed air-conditioned flat and no oily film. Four hundred millilitre tank lasting up to around seventy-five days a fill. Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, one, four, eight and twenty-four hour windows, day selection, adjustable intensity. Under thirty-eight decibels, which matters in a flat because flats are acoustically tight, and five watts. Nine hundred grams, black or white, freestanding on a shelf so nothing needs drilling, or wall and HVAC mountable. Auto-stop and key lock, CE, RoHS and SGS, made in India, and four one hundred millilitre hotel-inspired oils included so it runs the first evening. Refills are the waterless nebuliser oils at one thousand and forty-nine rupees for a hundred grams or one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine for three hundred - never the water-based Hotel Collection at two hundred and ninety-nine rupees, which is a separate system for ultrasonic diffusers, and worth telling him so nobody in the family tops it up with the wrong bottle. Under that figure, or in a flat of separate rooms: reed diffusers, and they are correct rather than a compromise. Morning Freshness at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees for fifty millilitres and one thousand two hundred and forty-nine for one hundred and thirty is Malabar lemon with peppermint and eucalyptus, clean and cool, and the right choice for a flat where the kitchen opens into the living space. Evening Calm at seven hundred and ninety-nine and one thousand two hundred and ninety-nine is lavender with chamomile for a bedroom. Mountain Breeze at eight hundred and forty-nine and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine is Himalayan pine, sage and cedar. Garden Bloom at seven hundred and ninety-nine and one thousand two hundred and ninety-nine is British rose with night-blooming jasmine. Fresh Brew at eight hundred and forty-nine and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine is Coorg coffee with Kerala vanilla. A duo set at one thousand four hundred and ninety-eight to two thousand five hundred and ninety-eight rupees is the version to give, and in a 4BHK the sensible arrangement is one bottle per zone that matters rather than one for the flat - entrance, living area, main bedroom, and a second bedroom or study in use. Now the second sibling advantage, which is money. Eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees is a large gift from one person, and between siblings there is no awkwardness in splitting it - a brother and sister, or two siblings and parents, covering a share each is the normal way machines in this band change hands, and it also means somebody can be nominated to set it up. If pooling is not on the cards, the duo band is not a downgrade: it is where most housewarming gifts belong, and in a compartmented 4BHK it is the better product regardless of budget. Three closing notes. Bedrooms with closed doors sit outside a machine's field, because it works through the air the flat circulates, so a bottle belongs in the main bedroom whatever else is bought. A flat shares a corridor with neighbours, so a strongly scented home pushes fragrance into common space every time the front door opens - which is a reason to start the intensity low and raise it only if nobody notices. And in a new flat nothing starts on day one: paint, polish, varnish and new joinery need a few weeks of ventilation, because fragrance over curing paint smells of both. Fragrance is a finishing touch and never a fix.
Ask him directly, and split it with the rest of the family
Two questions a brother can ask, and one cost that can be shared.
| Scent | Why it suits the mood |
|---|---|
| Over ~2,000 sq ft and connected · Vaayu ₹11,999 | One even strength, plus the entrance and internal corridor no bottle can serve. |
| Separate rooms, or under that · reeds ₹749 to ₹1,349 | One per zone - entrance, living, main bedroom, study. Correct, not compromised. |
| One good present · duo ₹1,498 to ₹2,598 | Two registers, complete in the box, nothing to install. |
| Either way · main bedroom gets a bottle | A closed door sits outside any machine's field. |

Versailles
The Vaayu is the most expensive thing we make and we turn down more orders for it than for anything else in the range. Not because we do not want to sell it - because most homes do not need it. It covers up to a thousand cubic metres, roughly two to three thousand square feet, and that is a villa, a penthouse, a large open-plan flat or a house with a double-height room. An ordinary 2BHK is not that, and in an ordinary 2BHK a reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees does the job better than eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees of machine would. So the question we ask is never what somebody spent on their house. It is how many cubic metres of air are in it.
The second thing we say, and almost nobody expects it, is wait a few weeks. A brand-new home smells of paint, varnish, polish, cement and new wood, and those are not smells to cover - they need open windows and time, and they go on their own. Give the machine at the housewarming by all means, but tell them the scenting starts once the building has finished smelling of being built. It is the same rule we apply to a new car, for the same reason: adding fragrance to a smell that is fading anyway is how a good product gets blamed for a bad result.
Two honest limits. Reed diffusers do not fail in large homes, they simply do not reach - a diffuser on a console table scents the area around that console table, which is not a fault, it is physics, and several of them is a real alternative to one machine. And there are two machines above the Vaayu, the Angaan and the Meenar, which are HVAC units for showrooms and hotel floors rather than houses - so if a home is genuinely far beyond three thousand square feet, message us rather than assuming more money solves it.
