Founder Diaries · LASIK Centre · The Signature Question
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 9 min read Updated August 2026
Yes, but only on one condition, and it is a supply condition rather than an aesthetic one. A signature scent is not a clever composition; it is a commitment to produce the same environment every time a patient walks in, for as long as the centre exists — which means it is a commitment to buy the same oil for years. That is why the first question is not which scent but which format you can still be resupplying in three years' time. In a home a supply gap is an inconvenience. In a refractive centre that has told itself and its staff the front hall smells like this, a gap is a visible inconsistency in a building whose entire proposition is that nothing is improvised. And the signature lives in the front of house only: workup and diagnostics, consultation and counselling cabins, the pre-procedure area, the laser suite and every recovery and post-operative space stay fragrance-free.
Quick answers — read this first
Yes, if you can resupply it; no, if you cannot. The reed line has a published oil refill — 300ml ₹2,399 and 500ml ₹3,499 — and the ultrasonic route has published Hotel Collection sizes at 15ml ₹299, 100ml ₹999 and 300ml ₹1,799.

⛔ SOSA does not currently sell a separate cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu. The 400ml supplied in the box lasts roughly ninety days or more at a mid setting and is the whole supply available at the time of writing. Any centre planning continuous or multi-site use must confirm current refill availability with SOSA before committing.

A signature is sameness, not distinctiveness. Same composition, same format, same setting, same placement, same run window, and one person accountable for all five. Nothing about it needs to be unusual.

What this page will not claim: a signature scent does not make patients remember you, choose you, return, review you or feel anything at all. No claim is made about enquiries, conversion or revenue, and nothing here is medical or clinical advice.
The short answer
Short answer: yes for most centres, on the reed route — one composition such as Mountain Breeze ₹849 / ₹1,349 held constant and resupplied from a 300ml refill at ₹2,399 or 500ml at ₹3,499. On the machine route, a Sukoon ₹1,899 with a Hotel Collection scent. On a Vaayu ₹11,999, only after confirming refill supply.
Why supply is the whole question here: a signature is judged on consistency, so the failure is not a bad scent — it is a different scent, or none, arriving without explanation. Patients who came for a consultation, a treatment day and a review inside a fortnight meet the same building three times. In a facility that sells precision, an unexplained change is a small crack in a large claim.
Straight answer
Should a premium LASIK centre have a signature scent?
1. Yes — if and only if you can resupply it indefinitely. Everything else about a signature is easy. Choosing the composition takes an afternoon; holding it for three years is the actual project, and it is a procurement question before it is a design one.

2. The reed route has a published resupply and is the honest default. One composition in a refillable glass bottle with six fibre reeds, topped up from a 300ml oil refill at ₹2,399 or a 500ml at ₹3,499. You reuse your own vessel. Reeds are not sold separately — a real gap in the range, and the guidance is to refresh them every few months.

3. The ultrasonic route also has published resupply. A Sukoon at ₹1,899 covers 270–320 sq ft and takes water-based Hotel Collection fragrance at 15ml ₹299, 100ml ₹999 and 300ml ₹1,799 — three 15ml bottles come in the box.

4. ⛔ The Vaayu is the one to be careful with, and I would rather lose the sale than blur it. SOSA does not currently sell a separate cold-air refill oil for it. The 400ml in the box lasts roughly ninety days or more at a mid setting and is the whole supply at the time of writing. If your plan is a permanent signature, or the same one across branches, confirm current refill availability through the contact page before you buy the machine.

5. Never substitute across formats to keep a signature alive. Reed oil cannot go into an ultrasonic, Hotel Collection cannot go into reeds, and neither goes into a Vaayu. A shortage is not solved by pouring the wrong thing in.

6. Decide the fallback in advance, and make it fragrance-free. If supply lapses, run nothing rather than a near-miss composition. Plain air is a legitimate state for a surgical front hall; a substitute scent is a visible change that invites a question you cannot answer well.

7. There is no bespoke service to ask for. SOSA publishes no private-label or custom-composition programme, and no bulk, corporate or multi-site terms. What a centre can do is choose one composition from the range and hold it — which is, in practice, what a signature is. Everything is made in small batches in Pune, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: a signature is sameness held over years, so choose the format by its resupply. The reed line has a published oil refill at ₹2,399 / ₹3,499 and the ultrasonic route has Hotel Collection sizes. The Vaayu has no separate refill oil published — ask before committing.
SOSA reed diffuser oil refill in 300ml and 500ml, the published resupply for a signature composition
The part of a signature that actually decides it
SOSA reed oil refill · 300ml & 500ml ₹2,399 / ₹3,499
A signature stands or falls on resupply, and this is the one SOSA publishes: 300ml at ₹2,399 running roughly 8–11 months, 500ml at ₹3,499 running roughly 14–18 months, poured into the glass bottle you already own. That works out at about ₹7–8 per ml against ₹15–17 per ml buying 50ml bottles. The method is simple: remove the reeds, pour to the neck, return the reeds, flip once so both ends are coated, and wear gloves. One honest gap to state plainly — reeds are not sold separately, so budget on refreshing them every few months from a new bottle rather than expecting them with a refill.

Part one — what a signature actually requires

Centres usually arrive at this question thinking about character. In practice a signature is an operations problem with a fragrance attached, and it has three requirements — none of which is a clever composition.

1
ONE · SAMENESS, NOT DISTINCTIVENESS
Five things stay constant, and one person owns all five
A signature is not a scent nobody else uses. It is the same composition, in the same format, at the same setting, in the same position, running in the same hours, every day for years. Change any one of those five and the environment changes, whatever is in the bottle. A machine nudged up on a slow afternoon, a bottle moved two metres nearer the door, a run window quietly extended — each is enough to make the hall a different room. This is the argument for a key-lock and a scheduled run window in a centre, and it is also the argument for writing the specification down: which composition, which setting, which position, which hours, and who is allowed to change it. One named person, not the front desk in general.
The rule: if nobody in the building can state the setting from memory, you do not have a signature — you have a diffuser.
2
TWO · RESUPPLY, WHICH IS THE REAL DECISION
Choose the format by what you can still buy in year three
SOSA Vaayu waterless cold-air scent machine, supplied with 400ml of oil in the boxVaayu waterless₹11,999 · ask about refillHere is the arithmetic a centre can actually plan against. On the reed route, a 130ml bottle at ₹1,349 runs 14–18 weeks, and a 500ml refill at ₹3,499 runs roughly 14–18 months, so a first year of one bottle plus one refill is ₹1,349 + ₹3,499 = ₹4,848 with resupply that is listed and buyable. On the ultrasonic route the Hotel Collection is published at 15ml ₹299, 100ml ₹999 and 300ml ₹1,799. On the Vaayu there is no separately sold cold-air refill oil at the time of writing — the 400ml in the box, roughly ninety days or more at a mid setting, is the supply. That is not a reason never to buy the machine; it is a reason to ask before you build an identity on it.
Ask before, not after: confirm current refill availability through the contact page before a centre or a chain standardises on a Vaayu.
3
THREE · A FALLBACK THAT IS NOT AN EMBARRASSMENT
Decide now that the fallback is nothing, not a substitute
Every signature will at some point face a week without stock, and the decision you make in that week should be made today, calmly, rather than then. The right fallback is fragrance-free, and it is not a failure — plain, well-ventilated air is a perfectly good state for a surgical front hall and several centres should be in it permanently. The wrong fallback is a substitute composition that is nearly the same, because near-misses are more noticeable than absences: a hall that smells of nothing reads as a hall, while a hall that smells slightly different reads as a change nobody announced. Substituting across formats is worse still and physically wrong — reed oil cannot go into an ultrasonic, Hotel Collection cannot go into reeds, and neither belongs in a Vaayu.

Part two — six routes, judged on resupply

The column that decides this table is the third one. Character, coverage and price are all secondary to whether you can buy the same thing again next year.

Signature routes · ranked by whether the supply is published
What holds each one steady, and what happens if the supply stops
Route What holds it steady Published resupply If supply lapses
One reed composition, refilled ★ Same bottle, six fibre reeds, fixed position, flipped weekly Yes — oil refill 300ml ₹2,399, 500ml ₹3,499 Buy a new 50ml or 130ml bottle. The identity survives
Sukoon with one Hotel Collection scent Lowest intensity, 4H timer, one fixed position behind the desk Yes — 15ml ₹299, 100ml ₹999, 300ml ₹1,799 Revert to fragrance-free until the same scent is back
Vaayu on the oil supplied in the box Key-lock, scheduled run window, freestanding position No separate cold-air refill oil published at present The machine runs dry and the signature stops. Ask first
Aangan or Meenar in a large eye hospital Specified with your facilities team, public concourse only Not published — the same question applies at ₹25,999 and ₹38,500 A larger version of the same problem. Confirm before ordering
The same scent across two or three branches One specification document, one accountable person, identical settings Depends entirely on the format chosen above Branches drift apart, which is worse than never matching
No signature — a consistent register instead A dry, low direction rather than a named composition Not applicable Nothing to lapse. The most robust answer of the six
The honest caveat: SOSA publishes no bulk or commercial pricing, no corporate account, no maintenance contract, no installation service, no stated warranty term, no delivery window and no multi-site programme, and does not currently sell a separate Vaayu refill oil. Warranty length, spare parts, servicing and app platform are unconfirmed. Nothing here is medical or clinical advice, and no claim is made about what a signature does for recognition, enquiries, retention or revenue. Larger and multi-site enquiries should go through the contact page before any commitment.

A composition, its resupply, and the sized machine
The SOSA principle
A signature is a promise about tomorrow, made with a product bought today. So the question a centre should ask a fragrance brand is not what it smells like — it is what happens when this bottle is empty, and the brand should answer without flinching.
Which is why the refill gap is in the middle of this page rather than in a footnote.

Part three — when a centre should not build a signature

Three centres in ten should not attempt this, and saying so is more useful than selling to all ten. The first is the centre whose front of house has no boundary to hold. A desk, four chairs and then the corridor to workup is not a front hall; it is the near end of the clinical pathway with better furniture. A signature in that space is a signature in the corridor, and no amount of consistency makes it appropriate. Spend the money on acoustics, seating and light temperature, and revisit this when there is a door.

The second is the centre that wants a signature for reasons this page cannot support. I make no claim that a recognisable scent affects how a patient remembers a practice, chooses one, returns, reviews it or decides on surgery, and I will not imply it with softer wording. The defensible reason to hold one composition is internal: it makes the environment a decision rather than an accident, and it stops the level drifting upward over months because someone new keeps deciding the hall smells of nothing. If the case for a signature depends on an effect I have just refused to claim, the case is not there.

The third is the multi-site centre that has not asked about supply. If you are standardising across two or three branches you are multiplying every constraint at once — more machines, more settings to keep identical, more people who can change them, and several times the oil. SOSA publishes no multi-location programme, no bulk pricing, no corporate account, no installation service, no maintenance contract, no warranty term and no delivery window, and does not currently sell a separate Vaayu refill oil. None of that means a chain cannot do this; it means the enquiry comes before the purchase order, through the contact page. A centre that standardises first and asks second has built an identity on an assumption.

Choosing the scent is an afternoon's work. Still having it in three years is the whole of the project.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA

Part four — what to standardise, and what to confirm first

Find your situation, then note the last column before anything is ordered. Two rows end in an enquiry rather than a purchase.

Specified as a supply decision
Six situations, and what each one should fix in writing
Your situation Signature: yes or no What to standardise, in writing What to confirm before committing
Single centre, front hall under ~150 sq ft ★ Yes — the easiest case Mountain Breeze 130ml, six reeds, one fixed position, flipped weekly Nothing. Refill oil at ₹2,399 / ₹3,499 is published
Single centre, 150–320 sq ft front hall, wants control Yes Sukoon ₹1,899, lowest intensity, 4H timer, one scent, one position Which Hotel Collection scent, and that you can buy it in 300ml
Open front of house above ~320 sq ft Yes, conditionally Vaayu ₹11,999 freestanding, key-lock on, consulting-hours run window Current refill availability — ask before you buy the machine
Two or three branches, different sizes Yes, after an enquiry One composition, one setting per size band, one named owner per site Supply for the total volume, and that no multi-site terms are published
Front hall opens straight onto the workup corridor No Nothing. Acoustics, seating and light temperature instead Whether a door is possible. Until then there is no zone to hold
You want a bespoke composition made for the practice No such service is published Choose one scent from the range and hold it — that is the signature Nothing to confirm; there is no private-label programme to ask for
Honest notes for buyers: nothing on this page is medical, clinical or safety advice, and no SOSA product is described as safe or unsuitable for any patient group, including post-operative patients — that judgement belongs to the practice and its clinicians. A diffuser adds a scent to the air; it does not clean, purify, filter, sanitise or disinfect air, and it does not remove disinfectant, damp, stale or occupancy smells. No claim is made about comfort, anxiety, waiting time, recovery, ratings, enquiries, retention or revenue. Some people are sensitive to airborne fragrance, which is why the surgical pathway stays fragrance-free and a fragrance-free seat should always exist. Coverage figures are manufacturer specifications and vary with ceiling height, air exchange and occupancy. Megh at ₹3,499 covers about 215 sq ft — less than a Sukoon — so it is a runtime and humidity machine, never a coverage upgrade. Safar at ₹3,999 has no published coverage figure. Reed strength figures are positions on SOSA's own internal scale at six reeds, and replacement reeds are not sold separately. Reed oil cannot go in an ultrasonic and Hotel Collection oil cannot go in reeds; neither goes in a Vaayu. SOSA sells no room spray; every SOSA spray is a car perfume. SOSA publishes no bulk pricing, corporate account, maintenance contract, installation service, warranty term, delivery window or multi-site programme, and does not currently sell a separate Vaayu refill oil — ask through the contact page before committing.
SOSA Mountain Breeze reed diffuser, a signature composition for a premium LASIK centre front hall
The composition I would hold, if you are holding one
SOSA Mountain Breeze · Himalayan pine, sage & Indian cedar ₹849 / 50ml
Dry pine and sage over Indian cedar, with no sweetness and no floral weight — the least spa-coded composition in the range and the one that survives being the same every day for years without becoming tiresome. Six fibre reeds rather than rattan, whose pores clog in Indian humidity; alcohol-free, phthalate-free and low-VOC on a heat-stable coconut-derived carrier, tested through 45°C summers and 85% monsoon humidity. 50ml runs 6–8 weeks, 130ml ₹1,349 runs 14–18 weeks, and the oil refill keeps it going in the same glass. Strength figures are positions on SOSA's own internal scale at six reeds, not an industry standard.

A note from Sonal

The best question I have been asked by a surgeon was not about fragrance at all. He wanted to know what happens when it stops being available — and then waited, without helping me, for the answer.

The answer is that on the reed line there is a published refill and the identity survives an empty bottle, and that on our waterless cold-air machine there is not one at present. The 400ml supplied in the box is the whole supply at the time of writing. I would rather write that sentence on every page that mentions the machine than have a centre discover it in month four with three branches standardised and nothing to pour.

It has cost sales. It has also produced the only kind of customer worth having in this category — a practice that knows exactly what it has bought and what it has not. A signature scent in a surgical building is a promise of consistency made to people who are, quite reasonably, examining every promise you make. If I cannot guarantee the second half of it, the honest thing is to say which formats can and which cannot, and let the centre choose. Composed and made in small batches in Pune, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy a refill oil for the Vaayu?
Not as a separately sold cold-air refill at the time of writing. The 400ml supplied in the box lasts roughly ninety days or more at a mid setting and is the whole supply available. The water-based Hotel Collection is not a substitute — it is made for ultrasonic machines and must never go into a Vaayu. If you are planning continuous or multi-site use, confirm current availability through the contact page before committing.
Can SOSA create a bespoke scent for our centre?
No private-label or bespoke composition service is published, so the honest answer is to choose one scent from the range and hold it. In practice that is what a signature is: the same composition, format, setting, position and run window, every day, with one person accountable for changing any of them. Distinctiveness is not the point; sameness is.
Which SOSA composition holds up best as a long-term signature in a surgical centre?
Mountain Breeze — dry pine and sage over Indian cedar, with no sweetness or floral weight to tire of. Morning Freshness works at a low reed count where cleaning products are unscented. I would rule out Fresh Brew, Garden Bloom and Evening Calm in this building. The range has no oud, no musk-forward composition and no aquatic.
What should we do if the scent is out of stock for a few weeks?
Run nothing. A hall that smells of clean air reads as a hall; a hall that smells slightly different reads as an unannounced change, which is the one impression a precision-led facility should avoid. Never substitute across formats to bridge a gap — reed oil cannot go in an ultrasonic, Hotel Collection cannot go in reeds, and neither belongs in a Vaayu.
Does the signature extend past reception if we get everything else right?
No. Consistency stops at the consultation door regardless of how well the supply is managed. Workup and diagnostics, consultation and counselling cabins, the pre-procedure area, the laser suite and every recovery or post-operative space stay fragrance-free, and a diffuser is never ducted into shared air-conditioning in a building with a theatre in it. Whether the front hall is appropriate at all in your centre is a judgement for you and your surgical team.
LASIK and vision-correction centres · the signature question
Yes — but only with supply security, and the reed route is the one that has it
One composition held constant in the front of house, resupplied from a published oil refill at ₹2,399 or ₹3,499, or a Sukoon at ₹1,899 with Hotel Collection at 15ml ₹299, 100ml ₹999 or 300ml ₹1,799. SOSA does not currently sell a separate cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu at ₹11,999 — the 400ml in the box is the whole supply at the time of writing, so confirm availability before standardising a centre or a chain on it. Everything past the consultation door stays fragrance-free. No claim is made about recognition, enquiries, retention or revenue.

SOSA range, specifications and prices used in this guide (verified August 2026): Vaayu ₹11,999 — waterless cold-air nebulisation of undiluted fragrance oil; no water, no heat, no added humidity, no white mineral dust. Coverage up to 1000 m³, about 2,000–3,000 sq ft. 400ml refillable tank lasting roughly 90+ days at a mid setting. CE, RoHS and SGS certified. SOSA does not currently sell a separate Vaayu cold-air refill oil; the 400ml supplied in the box is the fragrance available at the time of writing, so a practice planning continuous or multi-site use should confirm current refill availability with SOSA before committing. The water-based Hotel Collection is made for ultrasonic machines and must not be used in a Vaayu. Other machines: Boond 300ml ₹899 (~150 sq ft, ultrasonic) · Sukoon 500ml ₹1,899 (270–320 sq ft, 16–18 hours on low, remote and steady/2H/4H timers, three 15ml fragrances included, ultrasonic) · Megh 6L ₹3,499 (~215 sq ft — a runtime and humidity machine that covers less than a Sukoon, never a coverage upgrade) · Safar ₹3,999 (waterless cold diffusion, cordless, 20ml, about 6.9cm, three speeds, 1/2/3-hour auto-off — sold as a car and travel diffuser, personal-scale only; SOSA publishes no coverage figure for it) · Aangan ₹25,999 (HVAC nebulising, ~8,000–10,000 sq ft) · Meenar ₹38,500 (commercial HVAC, 12,000–18,000 sq ft). Water-based Hotel Collection for ultrasonic machines: 15ml ₹299 · 100ml ₹999 · 300ml ₹1,799 · pack of seven ₹1,799; scents are inspired by the atmosphere of well-known hotels — SOSA is an independent Indian brand and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or supplying any hotel group. Reed diffusers ₹749–₹1,349 (50ml 6–8 weeks, 130ml 14–18 weeks, six fibre reeds, no 100ml size; replacement reeds are not sold separately). Reed oil cannot be used in an ultrasonic machine and Hotel Collection oil cannot be used in reeds. SOSA sells no room spray or home spray — every SOSA spray is a car perfume. Nothing in this guide is medical, clinical or safety advice. A fragrance diffuser adds a scent to the air. It does not clean, purify, filter, sanitise or disinfect air, does not remove or neutralise disinfectant, damp or occupancy smells, and has no effect on comfort, anxiety, waiting time, recovery or any clinical outcome. Some people are sensitive to airborne fragrance, which is why this guide recommends that examination rooms, diagnostic areas, consultation cabins, procedure suites and post-operative areas remain fragrance-free, that a fragrance-free seating option always exist, and that a diffuser is never mounted into shared HVAC in a clinical building. Decisions about clinical policy, ventilation standards, infection control and patient suitability rest entirely with the practice and its clinicians. A persistent stale, damp or disinfectant smell is a ventilation, moisture or cleaning problem — SOSA sells no dehumidifier and no air purifier, and fragrance should never be used to cover one. Coverage, runtime and longevity figures are manufacturer specifications and typical ranges, not guarantees, and vary with room volume, ceiling height, air exchange, occupancy and season. SOSA publishes no commercial or bulk pricing, no corporate account, no annual maintenance contract, no installation service, no stated warranty term and no multi-location programme; warranty length, spare parts, servicing and app platform availability are unconfirmed, and larger or multi-site enquiries should go through the contact page before any commitment.
