Founder Diaries · Large-Space Scenting · Is It Worth It
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 9 min read Updated August 2026
Before anything else, the thing a host most needs to know and is least likely to be told. The SOSA Vaayu ships with 400ml of cold-air fragrance — four bottles of 100ml — and SOSA does not currently sell a separate Vaayu refill oil. That 400ml, specified at 90+ days per fill, is the whole supply available today. The water-based Hotel Collection sold for ultrasonic machines is a different product and does not go in a Vaayu, whatever the shared scent names suggest. If long-term supply matters to your property, write to SOSA and ask what is available before you spend ₹11,999. Everything else on this page is a conditional yes, and the condition is that you have an answer to that question.
Quick answers — read this first
The supply gap, stated first: 400ml in the box, no separate Vaayu refill oil on sale today, and the water-based Hotel Collection is not a substitute. Ask SOSA first.

Condition one — size: your connected common space is genuinely large, roughly 2,000 sq ft or more, or approaching 1000m³ once you multiply by ceiling height.

Condition two — absence: you are not standing in the property, so scheduling and the key-lock are worth more than raw strength.

Condition three — consistency: you want one scent held identically across every turnover without depending on a weekly human action.

Condition four — humidity: waterless nebulisation adds no moisture, which matters in a coastal or monsoon property where an ultrasonic makes the room damper.
The short answer
Short answer: yes, conditionally — if your property has a genuinely large connected common volume, if you are not there to operate anything, if consistency between guests is the thing you are actually buying, and if you have confirmed with SOSA what happens after the 400ml in the box. Meet three of those four and it is arguable. Meet fewer, and a Sukoon at ₹1,899 with reed diffusers from ₹749 does the same job for a tenth of the money.
What the machine is: a waterless cold-air nebuliser at ₹11,999. Pressurised air atomises undiluted fragrance oil into a dry nano-mist — no water, no heat, no residue. Coverage up to 1000m³, roughly 2,000–3,000 sq ft depending on ceiling height. 400ml tank at 90+ days a fill. Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, 1h / 4h / 8h / 24h timers, adjustable intensity, auto-stop, key-lock. Under 38 dB, 5W, 0.9 kg, freestanding or wall and HVAC mountable, CE, RoHS and SGS certified, made in India.
What it is not: it is not an air purifier, an odour remover or a wellness device — it adds fragrance to air, and you should ventilate before you scent. And it is not a performance lever: nobody can promise that scenting a listing moves a rating, a review, a booking or occupancy, and this page does not claim it.
Straight answer
Is the SOSA Vaayu worth ₹11,999 for a large Airbnb?
1. Answer the supply question before anything else. The machine comes with 400ml of cold-air fragrance and is specified at 90+ days per fill — about 4.4ml a day as arithmetic on those two numbers at the manufacturer's stated conditions. There is no separate Vaayu refill oil on sale from SOSA today. If you host year-round, ask them what the position will be before you order, not after.

2. Then check the size. Multiply your connected common floor area by its ceiling height. If the result is not somewhere near 1000m³ — roughly 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft at ordinary heights — you are buying reach you cannot use.

3. Then check whether you are there. The timers and the key-lock exist for properties the owner is not standing in. If you live on site, much of what you are paying for is control you will never need.

4. Then check what consistency is worth to you. One scent, at one intensity, on one schedule, identical for every guest, without anyone remembering to do anything weekly. That is the strongest honest argument for the machine.

5. Then check your climate. Waterless nebulisation puts no moisture into the room. An ultrasonic does, which in a coastal villa in August is a real consideration and in a dry Delhi winter is a benefit.

6. If you meet fewer than three, buy something else. A Sukoon at ₹1,899 covers 270–320 sq ft with a remote and timers; reed diffusers from ₹749 cover every closed room. That combination solves most large listings for well under a quarter of the price.

7. And hold the expectation at the right size. What you are buying is the guest's experience of arriving — real, describable, worth having. Not a rating, not a review, not a booking. There is no data connecting scenting to any of those, and I will not pretend otherwise.

The Vaayu is made in India; our reed diffuser fragrances are composed and handmade in small batches in Pune, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: a conditional yes. Large connected volume, an absent owner, consistency across turnovers and a humid climate are the four conditions; three of four makes it arguable. The condition before all of them is the refill question — 400ml in the box, no separate Vaayu refill sold today, so ask SOSA before you spend ₹11,999.
SOSA Vaayu waterless cold-air scent diffuser for a large Airbnb
The machine, described plainly
SOSA Vaayu · waterless cold-air nebuliser ₹11,999
Pressurised air atomises undiluted fragrance oil into a dry nano-mist — no water, no heat, nothing wet reaching a surface. Coverage is quoted up to 1000m³, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft depending on ceiling height, and that is a volume figure describing connected air. 400ml refillable tank at 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, 1h / 4h / 8h / 24h timers, adjustable mist intensity, auto-stop and a key-lock. Under 38 dB, DC 12V at 5W, 165 × 80.5 × 215 mm, 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mountable. CE, RoHS and SGS certified. Four 100ml cold-air fragrances in the box, in one of three combos chosen at checkout.

Part one — the four conditions, and why each one has to be true

₹11,999 is a serious purchase in India, and a machine bought to solve a problem it was not built for is a bad purchase at any price. The four conditions below are not marketing filters; they are the four properties of a listing that make this particular technology the right one rather than an expensive version of a cheaper answer. Meet all four and I would buy it. Meet three and it is arguable. Meet two, and a Sukoon and a handful of reed diffusers will make you happier and leave nine thousand rupees in the business.

1
CONDITION ONE · SIZE
The connected volume is genuinely large — and cubic
The published figure is up to 1000m³, and 1000m³ is a volume, not a floor plan. Multiply your connected common area by its ceiling height and convert: 2,400 sq ft at 12 ft is 28,800 cubic feet, which divided by 35.3 is about 816m³ — inside the specification with room to spare. The same 2,400 sq ft at 18 ft is closer to 1,220m³, and now you are outside it. This is why the honest coverage statement is a range of 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft rather than a single number: ceiling height decides which end you are at. If your connected common space is 900 sq ft at 10 ft, that is about 255m³, and you are buying four times the reach you can use.
The test: area × ceiling height ÷ 35.3 = cubic metres. If the answer is well under 500m³, this is not your machine.
2
CONDITIONS TWO AND THREE · CONTROL
You are not there, and you want every arrival identical
SOSA Sukoon ultrasonic cool mist diffuserSukoon₹1,899 · 270–320 sq ftA reed diffuser cannot be turned on, and that is its design rather than its failing. A machine you can schedule to the hour — 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h — at an intensity you set, in a property four hours away, is doing something no passive format can. The key-lock is the feature hosts underrate: it means a guest cannot turn the intensity up, turn it off, or change anything at all, which on a property full of strangers is worth more than raw output. And consistency follows from the same two features. A signature scent is a discipline rather than a product — one composition, held across every turnover — and the commonest reason hosts drift off it is operational, not aesthetic. A schedule that runs itself does not drift.
The honest weight: for a remote host, control is the argument. Strength is the second reason, not the first.
3
CONDITION FOUR · CLIMATE
Waterless matters more in India than the brochure suggests
An ultrasonic machine works by vibrating water into a mist and carrying diluted fragrance with it. That is a sound design for a bedroom and a poor one for a coastal villa in the monsoon, where the last thing the air needs is more moisture. Cold-air nebulisation carries the oil itself, dry, with no water at all — which is both why the reach differs by an order of magnitude and why it suits a humid climate. It is also why the mist leaves no damp film on a wall or a wooden surface. If your property is in Goa, Kerala, coastal Karnataka or anywhere that spends three months at high humidity, this specification is doing more work for you than the coverage number is. In a dry Delhi or Jaipur winter the calculation reverses and an ultrasonic's added humidity is a small bonus rather than a problem.

Part two — the scorecard, and what to buy when the answer is no

Score your own property against the four conditions. Every "no" has an alternative next to it, because a no here is not a smaller version of the same purchase — it is a different purchase.

The four-condition scorecard
What yes looks like, what no looks like, and what to buy instead
Condition A clear yes A clear no If no, buy this instead
1. Connected volume ★ 2,000+ sq ft connected, approaching 1000m³ with ceiling height Under ~800 sq ft, or the space is chopped into closed rooms Sukoon ₹1,899 plus reed diffusers from ₹749
2. You are absent Remote host, rotating cleaners, no one on site weekly You live on site or visit every few days Reed diffusers — you are the schedule
3. Consistency between guests One held scent matters more than variety You enjoy changing scent by season or by room Reed diffusers, a different composition per room
4. Humid climate Coastal or monsoon property; nothing should add moisture Dry inland winter; a little humidity is welcome Sukoon ₹1,899, or Megh ₹3,499 for runtime and humidity
Precondition. Supply You have asked SOSA and have an answer you can plan on You have not asked Do not order yet. Ask first
The honest caveat: a Megh at ₹3,499 is not a step towards a Vaayu. Six litres buys roughly a hundred hours of runtime and a good deal of humidity, but it covers around 215 sq ft — less than the ₹1,899 Sukoon's 270–320. It is a runtime and humidity machine and never a coverage upgrade. If more reach is what you want, the Sukoon is the cheaper answer and the Vaayu is the larger one; nothing sits usefully between them for coverage.

The three answers, from cheapest to largest
The SOSA principle
A conditional yes is still a yes — but the condition comes first, and here the condition is the oil.
We name the gap for the same reason we tell reed customers that replacement reeds are not sold separately: a buyer who finds out afterwards has been badly served, however good the product is.

Part three — who should not buy this, said plainly

Start with the largest group. If your listing is a 2BHK or a 3BHK flat, this is not your machine and I would not sell it to you. A 2BHK's connected living-dining is typically 400 to 500 sq ft, which at ten feet is somewhere near 130m³ — a seventh of what the Vaayu is built for. One Sukoon at ₹1,899 covers it with timers and a remote, and four reed diffusers at ₹749–₹849 cover the bedrooms and bathrooms behind their closed doors. That is roughly ₹5,000 all in against ₹11,999, and it fits the property better rather than merely costing less.

The second group is anyone whose actual problem is a smell rather than an absence of one. A flat that has been shut for nine days between guests develops its own character, and no fragrance removes it — a scent machine adds fragrance to air, and layered onto a stale room it produces a third smell nobody designed. Ventilate first, scent second, always. Nothing SOSA makes cleans air, kills anything, removes odour or changes how anyone feels, and I would rather say that clearly than let a ₹11,999 purchase be made on a misunderstanding. Open the windows for twenty minutes at the start of the turnover, deal with the drains and the bins and the fridge, and only then think about fragrance.

The third group is the one this whole page is built around: any host who cannot get an answer to the refill question and needs one. The machine holds 400ml and is specified at 90+ days per fill. That is a real quantity of fragrance and, at four 100ml bottles across a chosen combo, it is more oil than most reed households buy in a year. But there is no separate cold-air refill on sale from SOSA at the time of writing, and the water-based Hotel Collection at ₹299 to ₹1,799 is a different product for ultrasonic machines that must not go into a Vaayu. If you are planning a season, ask. If the answer satisfies you, the four conditions above are the rest of the decision.

Ask the supply question first. Everything else about this machine is easier to answer.

Part four — the questions to ask SOSA before you spend ₹11,999

Seven things worth confirming, with what I can and cannot verify from here. I would send this as one message and wait for the reply before ordering.

The pre-purchase checklist
What to ask, and what is already confirmed
Ask Why it matters to a host What I can confirm here
1. Is a cold-air Vaayu refill available, in what size and at what price? ★ It decides whether the machine runs past its first 400ml No separate Vaayu refill oil is sold by SOSA today. The Hotel Collection is not a substitute
2. Can I get the same combo again later? A signature scent is only a signature if it can be repeated Three combos exist and are chosen at checkout; future availability is not something I can promise
3. What is the warranty, and is there an AMC? ₹11,999 of equipment in a property you do not occupy Not verified — ask SOSA. The unit is CE, RoHS and SGS certified
4. Is there an installation service for wall or HVAC mounting? Mounting position changes how well a tall room is served The unit is specified as freestanding or wall / HVAC mountable; whether SOSA installs it is not confirmed
5. Which phones does the Bluetooth app support? Your cleaner may need to use it, not just you App plus onboard buttons are specified; platform details are not confirmed here
6. Are there terms for multiple units or properties? Hosts with several listings buy differently Not verified — ask SOSA
7. Are spare parts and servicing available? A nebuliser is a mechanical device in constant use Not verified — ask SOSA. The unit is 0.9 kg, 5W, and rated under 38 dB
Honest notes for buyers: the Vaayu is ₹11,999 (the product page displays a rounded ₹12,000). Waterless cold-air nebulisation of undiluted oil, coverage up to 1000m³ or about 2,000–3,000 sq ft depending on ceiling height, 400ml refillable tank specified at 90+ days per fill, Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, 1h / 4h / 8h / 24h timers, adjustable intensity, auto-stop, key-lock, under 38 dB, DC 12V / 1A at 5W, 165 × 80.5 × 215 mm, 0.9 kg, black or white, CE, RoHS and SGS certified, made in India, four 100ml cold-air fragrances in the box. SOSA does not currently sell a separate Vaayu refill oil, and the water-based Hotel Collection (15ml ₹299 · 100ml ₹999 · 300ml ₹1,799) is for ultrasonic machines only and must never be used as a Vaayu refill. Reed oil goes only in reed bottles. Coverage, runtime and consumption figures are manufacturer specifications and vary with intensity, run hours, ceiling height, ventilation and season; the per-day figures on this page are arithmetic on those specifications, not measurements. Electricity at 5W is about 0.12 units a day if run continuously, and tariffs vary by state. Warranty, AMC, installation, app platform, bulk terms and spare parts are not verified here. Nothing on this page is a health, mood, sleep, focus, air-purification or odour-elimination claim, and no claim is made that scenting affects ratings, reviews, bookings, occupancy or revenue.
SOSA Sukoon ultrasonic cool mist diffuser as the cheaper alternative
The answer for most listings that ask this question
SOSA Sukoon · ultrasonic, 500ml ₹1,899
More hosts who read this page should end up here than at the Vaayu, and I would rather say so. 270 to 320 sq ft of connected space, 16 to 18 hours on low from one fill, a remote and steady, 2H and 4H timers, and three 15ml Hotel Collection fragrances in the box. It runs the water-based Hotel Collection at ₹299 for 15ml, ₹999 for 100ml and ₹1,799 for 300ml — which is for ultrasonic machines only, never for a reed bottle and never for a Vaayu. The trade is honest: it adds a little humidity to the room, which is welcome in a dry winter and less so in a coastal August. At a tenth of the price it is the sensible first machine for almost every property under about 800 sq ft of connected space.

A note from Sonal

We put the refill gap in the first paragraph of this page on purpose, and I know how that reads on a page whose job is to sell a ₹11,999 machine. But a host who buys a scenting system for a property is buying a routine, not an object, and a routine you cannot resupply is not a routine. I would rather tell you now than have you write to me in four months.

It is the same instinct that makes us tell reed diffuser customers that we do not sell replacement reeds separately. Both are real gaps in what we offer today. Naming them costs us some sales and earns the right to be believed about everything else on the page — including the parts where I say a Sukoon at ₹1,899 will serve you better than the expensive thing.

Where the four conditions are all true, this is a very good machine and I stand behind it: dry mist, no water, a schedule that holds, a lock a guest cannot defeat, and enough reach for a floor rather than a room. Where they are not, please spend the money on the mattress. The Vaayu is made in India, our fragrances are composed and handmade in small batches in Pune, and a portion of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy refill oil for the SOSA Vaayu?
Not from SOSA at the time of writing. The machine ships with four 100ml cold-air fragrances — 400ml in total, specified at 90+ days per fill — and there is no separate Vaayu refill oil on sale today. The water-based Hotel Collection is a different product for ultrasonic machines and must not be used in a Vaayu, despite sharing scent names. Ask SOSA for the current position before you buy if long-term supply matters.
Is the Vaayu worth it for a 3BHK Airbnb?
Usually not. A 3BHK's connected living-dining is commonly 600 to 800 sq ft, which at ten feet is roughly 170–225m³ against a machine built for up to 1000m³. One Sukoon at ₹1,899 plus six reed diffusers from ₹749 covers such a property properly for a fraction of the price. The Vaayu becomes arguable past roughly 2,000 sq ft of connected space, or earlier if turnover labour is the thing you are trying to remove.
How much does the Vaayu cost to run?
In electricity, very little: 5W run continuously is 0.12 units a day, which at an illustrative ₹8 per unit is under a rupee — though tariffs vary by state and that is arithmetic rather than a bill. In fragrance, the box's 400ml is specified at 90+ days per fill, roughly 4.4ml a day as arithmetic on those numbers. Beyond that first fill I cannot give you a running cost, because no separate refill is currently sold.
Is a Megh at ₹3,499 a cheaper way to get the same coverage?
No, and it is worth being blunt about. The Megh covers around 215 sq ft, which is less than the ₹1,899 Sukoon's 270–320 sq ft. What its six litres buy is roughly a hundred hours of runtime between fills and a good deal of added humidity. Buy it for runtime or for a dry winter. Never buy it for reach.
Will scenting my Airbnb get me better reviews?
No one can promise that and this page does not. Ratings, reviews, bookings and occupancy depend on a great many things and there is no data linking a diffuser to any of them. What is honest and worth buying is the guest's experience of the first ninety seconds after the door opens. Judge the purchase on that, on the size of your property, and on how much turnover labour it removes.
