What does a stairwell do? It behaves as a chimney, moving warm air upward continuously, which is why an upper landing often smells faintly of the ground floor without anything being placed there.
Can I scent the upper floor from downstairs? No. The stairwell carries a trace upward but it is a weak one-way connection, so raising the ground floor source overdoses the ground floor without meaningfully reaching the landing.
At this size the house has a vertical dimension
Below about two thousand square feet, a home can be thought of as a floor plan: a flat arrangement of spaces, some connected and some behind doors. From 2,500 square feet upward that model usually stops working, because the house has acquired a vertical dimension. Duplexes, villas and large row houses at this size have two or three levels connected by a stairwell, and a stairwell is not a corridor. It is a chimney. Warm air rises through it continuously, all day, carrying whatever the lower floor holds upward with it. That single fact reorganises how the house should be planned, and the cleanest way to hold it is to treat the home as three systems rather than one. System one is the ground plane. This is the connected volume of the lower floor: living area, dining, the passage, and the foot of the stairs, assuming no closed doors between them. It behaves the way any single connected volume behaves, and it takes one source. Where the plan genuinely lives open, this is where the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 earns its place, because one device with nothing to fill and a saved schedule replaces six or eight separate sources and one refill routine replaces six. Where the plan is only partly open, a Megh at Rs 3,499 with its 6L tank remains the sensible unit. Placement within the ground plane follows the usual rules: console or table height rather than the floor, in the space people actually walk into rather than the corner with a socket, and out of the direct throw of an air conditioner. System two is the vertical column, and it is the one people get wrong. The stairwell moves air upward continuously, which means the upper landing of a duplex frequently smells faintly of the ground floor without anybody having put anything there. That effect is real and it is useful: it means the house reads as coherent from top to bottom, and it is a good argument for keeping one register throughout rather than different scents on different floors, since two registers meeting in a stairwell produce a third that nobody chose. But it is a weak, one-way connection rather than shared air, and the mistake it invites is trying to feed the upper floor by increasing the ground floor source. That does not work. The increase overwhelmingly stays on the ground floor, where you are standing and where you have already adapted within the hour, so the lower level becomes heavier than anybody would have chosen while the landing gains almost nothing. Give the landing its own small source instead. If it is a genuine living space - a family area, a study nook, somewhere people sit - a Sukoon at Rs 1,799 suits it. If it is a landing people pass through, a reed at Rs 749 to Rs 849 is the right product and needs nothing done to it for three to four months. System three is sealed rooms, and at this size there are a lot of them across both floors: every bedroom, every bathroom, a study, sometimes a guest suite. No machine on either floor reaches any of them, because a machine distributes through connected moving air and a closed door is a hard boundary. Each wants its own passive source, which in a 2,500 square foot house is typically six to eight reed diffusers. Bedrooms take the lightest level in the house, since dwell time there is long, everybody adapts within an hour and the occupant cannot leave the room; the source should be something they can move, cap or take out of the room without asking anybody. Bathrooms are the best value in the whole category, being small enough for one source to work evenly and the room visitors actually remember. And one just inside the entrance, permanent rather than scheduled, because arrival is the only moment anybody perceives the house properly and it should not depend on a cycle having run. Two closing rules that apply across all three systems. The kitchen is outside the plan entirely and gets nothing at any time, and in a house this size using the extraction every single time with the door shut matters more than any product here, because cooking smell is aerosolised oil that travels a long way and settles into soft furnishings on both floors. And covered terraces, balconies and verandahs - which homes of this size often have several of - cannot hold fragrance at all, because the air exchanges continuously with the outside.
Ground plane, column, sealed rooms
Ground plane, column, sealed rooms. System one, the connected ground floor - living, dining, passage and the foot of the stairs with no closed doors between them: the SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 where the plan genuinely lives open, waterless with no tank, coverage up to 1,000 m², Bluetooth app and timer control; or the SOSA Megh at Rs 3,499 with a 6L tank where it is only partly open. Place it at console or table height in the space people walk into, out of the direct throw of an air conditioner, on two short cycles anchored to arrivals. System two, the vertical column: the stairwell already carries a trace upward all day, which is a reason to keep one register throughout rather than different scents per floor, since two registers meeting in a stairwell produce a third nobody chose. Give the landing its own source rather than raising the ground floor - the SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,799 if it is a genuine living space, or a reed diffuser if it is a landing people pass through. System three, sealed rooms on both floors, typically six to eight at this size: a reed in every bathroom, one in every bedroom at the lightest level in the house from a source the occupant can move or cap, one in a study, and one just inside the entrance as a permanent presence - Morning Freshness at Rs 749, Garden Bloom at Rs 799, Evening Calm at Rs 799, Fresh Brew at Rs 849, Mountain Breeze at Rs 849, three to four months per bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml, or the SOSA Boond at Rs 799 at the door. Fragrance for machines: Hotel Collection at Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml, at three to six drops per tank, rinsing between scents, and it is not reed diffuser oil. Outside the plan entirely: the kitchen, which gets nothing at any time and where extraction used every single time with the door shut matters more than any product here, and covered terraces, balconies and verandahs, which cannot hold fragrance because the air exchanges continuously. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards.

Versailles
Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.
And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
