Deep, narrow shop units are the commonest showroom shape in India and the one owners apologise for most. They should not. Of all the plans I am sent, the long thin one is the kindest to a single machine, because it gives the air only one direction to go in.
Quick answers — read this first
Is a long, narrow showroom harder to scent? No - it is easier than a square floor of the same area, and the reason is geometry. A narrow plan gives air nowhere to disperse sideways, so it behaves like a conduit: whatever enters at one end travels the length rather than spreading out and thinning. A square room lets the same output wander in four directions at once. Owners of deep shop units usually expect to be told they need two machines, and almost none of them do.

Where does the machine go along the length? At the upstream end - the end where the air enters, which is often the back of the unit rather than the front. Find your supply grilles with a tissue and start there. What you must not do is put it halfway along, which feels balanced and is not: half the room is then upstream of the source, so the machine is fighting the air path in one direction while riding it in the other, and the far end gets a fraction of what it should.

Do I need two machines for a deep unit? Almost never, and the arithmetic usually settles it. A 20ft × 100ft unit is 2,000 sq ft, about 186m², which at a 3m ceiling is roughly 558m³ - a little over half of what one machine is rated for. One SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 covers up to 1000m³. Under about 750 sq ft - a 15ft × 45ft unit, say - the honest buy is a SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899.
The short answer
Short answer: with one machine at the upstream end of the run rather than two along its length. A narrow plan behaves like a conduit - air has nowhere to disperse sideways, so it travels the length instead of thinning - which makes a deep shop unit easier to scent than a square floor of the same area. Find the end where air enters and start there, even if that is the back.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) at the upstream end of the run, roughly a metre off the floor and downstream of a supply grille; under about 750 sq ft, one SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) instead.
Next step: send the plan with the length, the width, the ceiling height and every supply grille marked, and we will tell you which end of the run the machine belongs at - Ask for a retail scenting plan.

Length is not what defeats a single machine. A shut door defeats it, and a separate air path defeats it - but a long open run is the one shape where one source genuinely reaches everything.

Straight answer
How should a long, narrow modular kitchen showroom be scented?
With one machine at the upstream end of the run, and with rather more confidence than most owners of deep shop units arrive with. The instinct is that length is the enemy - that a hundred feet is simply too far for one source and the answer must be two or three spread along the way. It is the wrong model. A narrow plan is a conduit. Air entering it has nowhere to disperse sideways, so instead of spreading in four directions and thinning as it goes, it travels the length of the unit in one direction, which is exactly the behaviour you want. A square floor of the same area is genuinely harder, because the same output has four ways to wander. So the first thing to do is stop apologising for the shape. The second is to find the upstream end, and this is where people are usually surprised: it is frequently the back of the unit rather than the front. In a deep shop the plant is often at the rear, the supplies run forward from it, and the return sits near the front or in the corridor. Do the tissue walk - light tissue under each warm ceiling grille, lifting away is a supply and pulled flat is a return - and mark them on the plan. Then place two or three metres downstream of the first supply on the run, roughly a metre off the floor. What you must not do is put the machine halfway along, which feels even-handed and is the worst position on the plan. Half the unit is then upstream of the source. The machine spends part of its output riding the air path and part of it pushing against it, and the far end - which is usually where your consultation table is, because that is where the quiet is - receives the least. Now the arithmetic, because it settles the second-machine question honestly. A 20ft × 100ft unit is 2,000 sq ft, about 186m², which at an ordinary 3m ceiling is roughly 558m³. One SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is rated to 1000m³, so the machine is running at a little over half its range and will do the whole length at a low setting. Two machines there would give you two sources in one shared volume and a join in the middle. A second machine is justified only by a genuinely separate volume of air - a closed consultation room at the back, another floor, its own conditioning zone - and never by a second point along the same open run. Under about 750 sq ft, which a 15ft × 45ft unit is, the honest buy is a SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 and a Vaayu would be the wrong purchase. Whether your supplies actually reach the far end, how far the diffusers throw and whether the run was balanced after the fit-out are your HVAC contractor's questions. And none of this is a way to cover a smell. Ask for a retail scenting plan and send the run with its grilles marked.
A narrow plan is a conduit, so one machine at the upstream end does the whole length. Never place it halfway along - half the unit is then upstream of it. A 20ft × 100ft unit at 3m holds about 558m³, comfortably inside one Vaayu at ₹11,999. Under about 750 sq ft, a ₹1,899 Sukoon.
One SOSA Vaayu - rated to 1000m³, which comfortably exceeds the volume of most deep shop units, waterless, under 38dB, with app timers and a key-lock. ₹11,999 for the whole run. Under about 750 sq ft, buy the ₹1,899 Sukoon and place it by the same upstream rule.

The machine, and why one covers the run

The shape argues for one machine rather than two, and the arithmetic usually confirms it. The images link to the product pages so you can check the specifications before ordering anything.

The three rules of a long plan

Three rules, and the second one is the one that saves a showroom from buying a machine it does not need.

1
Find the upstream end
It is often the back of the unit, not the front
In a deep shop the plant is frequently at the rear, so the supplies run forward from the back and the return sits near the front or in a corridor. That means the upstream end - the beginning of the air's journey through your unit - is the end nobody would have guessed. Do the tissue walk with the system warm: hold a light tissue under each ceiling grille, and mark the ones that lift it away as supplies and the ones that pull it flat as returns. Place two or three metres downstream of the first supply along the run, roughly a metre off the floor, and let the length carry it forward from there.
Tip: Write the direction of travel on the plan with an arrow. It stops future arguments.
SOSA Vaayu
One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.

2
Refuse the middle
A machine halfway along a run spends half its output backwards
Placing the machine in the centre feels fair and is the worst decision available. Air in a narrow unit moves in one direction, so a source in the middle leaves half the floor upstream of itself, receiving almost nothing except by slow diffusion. Meanwhile the downstream half gets a strong band beginning at the machine, which is why centrally placed machines produce showrooms that read powerfully in one stretch and thinly in the other. Evenness along a run comes from entering the air path early, not from standing in the geometric centre of the drawing. The plan is a map of the floor; the airflow is a map of the room, and they are not the same document.
Tip: Judge the setting from the far end of the run, not from beside the machine.
SOSA Vaayu
One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.

3
Hand the run's design over
Whether your supplies reach the far end is an engineering question
A long run has its own engineering, and it is not mine. How far each diffuser throws, whether the supplies were balanced along the length after the fit-out changed the partitions, whether the far end of the unit is genuinely served at all or is simply living on whatever drifts down to it, how the fresh-air intake and filtration are configured - all of that belongs to your HVAC contractor or consulting engineer. If the far third of your showroom has no supply grille serving it, no scenting placement will fix that and you should be told so plainly rather than sold a second machine. Ask them, get it in writing, and treat a supplier who answers confidently with suspicion.
SOSA Vaayu
The Vaayu is HVAC mountable - what belongs in the duct run is your engineer's call.

The SOSA principle
A narrow floor plan takes away the one thing that actually weakens a single source, which is the freedom to wander sideways. The shape owners apologise for is the shape that makes one machine sufficient.
Length is a direction. It is only distance that has to be paid for, and air travels it for nothing.
SOSA Vaayu
Comfortably inside its range: A 20ft × 100ft unit at a 3m ceiling holds about 558m³ against the Vaayu's rated 1000m³, so it runs low rather than hard. ₹11,999.

The run, end to end

Walk the length with the plan and decide each stretch before you place anything.

The SOSA plan
Where the machine belongs along a deep shop unit
The position along the run What to do
SOSA VaayuThe upstream end, where air enters
The answer. Two or three metres downstream of the first supply, about a metre off the floor, in the stream but out of the blast.
Halfway along
The worst position on the plan. Half the unit sits upstream of the source and receives almost nothing; the other half gets a band.
At the shopfront by the doors
No. A busy glass frontage exchanges that air constantly, so the output goes to the pavement rather than down the run.
At the far end, near the return
No. The output is removed from the unit within seconds of leaving the machine.
SOSA SukoonA closed consultation room off the run
A genuinely separate volume if its door stays shut, and the one honest case for a second machine in a deep unit.
A second machine along the open run
Not justified. Two sources in one volume make a join rather than better coverage, and the arithmetic rarely supports it.

If the far end of your run is stubbornly quiet while the front reads strongly, walk the diagnosis in whether the machine belongs near the AC return or away from it before you buy anything else. And the family's whole method for making a floor read consistently, run or no run, is in how to create even fragrance distribution across multiple display zones. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel.

SOSA Vaayu
One source, no join: Two machines along one open run make a band in the middle that customers walk through. One at the upstream end does not. ₹11,999.

See the SOSA Vaayu Book a scenting plan
People send me hundred-foot shop units the way you would confess to something. It is the easiest plan in my inbox. Air in a narrow building has one direction available to it, and I would far rather have that than a square room where it can go anywhere it likes.

The SOSA kitchen-showroom specification

Two machines cover most deep shop units, with the Aangan taking over only where the building is genuinely large and has real air handling. Cold-air refill oil is not currently sold separately, so the 400ml supplied runs 90+ days a fill and further supply should be confirmed with SOSA before you plan a rollout. Installation, mounting support, warranty and AMC terms are not published - confirm them with SOSA. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Enter the air path at the upstream end, refuse the middle, and reserve a second machine for a genuinely separate volume rather than a second point on the same run. Ambient scent here is a presentation decision like lighting or display styling; it is never used to cover another smell - not laminate, not adhesive, not cooking - and diffuser throw, run balancing, ductwork, fresh-air intake and filtration are your HVAC contractor's questions, not a fragrance supplier's. And plainly: no one can promise you that ambient scent moves footfall or order value. Ask for a retail scenting plan before you spend anything.

A note from Sonal

The deep shop unit is the shape of Indian retail and it arrives in my inbox with an apology attached. Twenty feet wide, a hundred feet deep, and the owner has already decided they will need three machines spaced down the length. Almost none of them do, and the reason is a piece of physics that works in their favour for once: a narrow room takes away the air's ability to wander sideways, so everything you release at one end travels the length instead of spreading out and thinning. It is a conduit. Conduits are fed at one end.

The part that surprises people is which end. In most deep units the plant sits at the back, so the air's journey begins at the rear and finishes near the shopfront. That makes the back of the shop the right place for the machine and the front - the part everyone instinctively wants to scent - the very end of the line. Twenty minutes with a tissue under the ceiling grilles settles it, and then the only remaining discipline is refusing to put the machine halfway along, which feels balanced and leaves half your floor standing upstream of its own source.

On hardware: a 20ft by 100ft unit at an ordinary ceiling holds roughly 558 cubic metres, against a Vaayu rated to 1000, so one machine at ₹11,999 does the whole thing at a low setting. Under about 750 sq ft it is a Sukoon at ₹1,899 and a Vaayu would be the wrong buy. Whether your supplies actually reach the far end is a question for your HVAC contractor. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How do I scent a long, narrow modular kitchen showroom?
With one machine at the upstream end of the run. A narrow plan behaves like a conduit: air has nowhere to disperse sideways, so it travels the length rather than spreading out and thinning. Find the end where air enters using the tissue test on your ceiling grilles, place the machine two or three metres downstream of the first supply, about a metre off the floor, and let the length carry it.
Is a long showroom harder to scent than a square one?
No, it is easier at the same floor area. A square room gives the output four directions to wander in and thin out; a narrow one gives it a single direction of travel. Deep shop units are the commonest showroom shape in India and their owners usually expect to be told they need two or three machines, when the shape is actually the one where a single source performs best.
Should the machine go in the middle of the run?
No - it is the worst position on the plan even though it looks the most balanced. Air moves in one direction along a narrow unit, so a source in the middle leaves half the floor upstream of itself receiving almost nothing, while the downstream half gets a strong band starting at the machine. Evenness comes from entering the air path early rather than from standing in the centre of the drawing.
How many machines does a 100-foot showroom need?
Usually one. A 20ft by 100ft unit is 2,000 sq ft, about 186 square metres, which at a 3m ceiling is roughly 558 cubic metres - a little over half of the 1000 cubic metres one SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is rated for. A second machine belongs to a genuinely separate volume of air, such as a closed consultation room at the back, and never to a second point along the same open run.
The far end of my showroom smells of nothing. What now?
First check the grilles: if the machine is near a return, its output is being removed before it travels. If the placement is right and the far third is still quiet, ask your HVAC contractor whether that end is actually served by a supply at all, and whether the run was balanced after the fit-out. Diffuser throw, duct balancing and filtration are engineering questions rather than fragrance ones.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the planning advice applies to any brand.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with adjustable intensity, a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, operation under 38dB at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification, which are electrical and compliance marks and not medical approvals. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft and is supplied with three 15ml fragrances; the water-based Hotel Collection (₹299 / ₹999 / ₹1,799) is an ultrasonic fragrance and is not a refill for a waterless cold-air machine. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with 50ml lasting about 6-8 weeks and 130ml about 14-18 weeks. Cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml included and further refills should be confirmed with SOSA. Warranty, annual maintenance, installation and bulk terms are not published and should be confirmed before ordering. Ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision: it makes no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim, it works alongside proper ventilation, cleaning and infection control and is never a substitute for any of them, it is never used to mask another smell, and no claim is made that fragrance influences a patient's decision or any commercial outcome.
