Why is open plan difficult for reed diffusers? Because a diffuser scents the area around itself, and an open plan is one large volume rather than several rooms it could sit in.
What about the kitchen being in the same space? Schedule the machine around cooking. Fragrance running during heavy cooking produces two smells at once rather than one.
The purest case for a machine - and the kitchen is in the same volume
Open plan is the layout that makes this whole product category make sense, and it is worth being precise about why. A reed diffuser works by evaporation into the still air around it, so it needs a room - a bounded volume of a size that its small fixed output can fill. Take the walls away and that condition disappears. A living-dining-kitchen of nine hundred square feet running continuously into a corridor is not a room with a diffuser in it; it is one large volume with a small source standing in one corner of it, and the result is a scented pocket near the console and a great deal of unscented air everywhere else. This is the single most common reason people conclude that home fragrance does not work in their house. It works fine. It was asked to do something it is not built for. A waterless cold-air nebuliser is built for exactly this. Pressurised air breaks undiluted oil into a dry nano-mist light enough to be carried by whatever air is already moving, and in an open plan there is a great deal of air moving - the air conditioning circulates across the whole volume rather than being contained by doors, which is precisely what makes open-plan homes expensive to cool and what makes them easy to scent from one point. The SOSA Vaayu at eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees states coverage of up to a thousand cubic metres, about two thousand to three thousand square feet, and in an open-plan flat inside that range one machine produces a single consistent field rather than a series of pockets. Placement follows the circulation: in the path between the main space and the corridor, or near an air conditioning return, rather than tucked behind furniture where the air is comparatively still. Now the complication, and it is specific to this layout. The kitchen is in the same volume. That is the point of an open-plan home - the cooking is part of the living space, someone can talk to guests while they finish something - and it means there is no wall between the cooking smells and the scenting. Indian cooking in particular is aromatic by design: tempering, frying, roasting spices, and those molecules are persistent. A machine running at seven in the evening while a tadka is going produces two strong smells occupying the same air, and the result is neither of them. Worse, it is the fragrance that gets blamed, because the cooking has an obvious reason to be there and the fragrance does not. So the practical guidance for an open-plan flat is the opposite of continuous running. Use the scheduling. The Vaayu has one, four, eight and twenty-four hour run windows with day selection and adjustable intensity from a Bluetooth app or its onboard buttons, which means the sensible pattern is a window that starts after the main cooking is done, or before it begins. The hour before guests arrive, while the kitchen is quiet. Late evening once dinner is cleared. Mid-morning at the weekend. And during heavy cooking, nothing, with the chimney or exhaust running and a window open on the far side of the flat so the air actually moves. That last part is worth saying with the gift, because it is the piece of advice that makes the difference in an open-plan home and it is free: ventilation while cooking, fragrance afterwards. This is the same position this shop takes everywhere - fragrance is a finishing touch, never a fix, and cooking smells have a cause rather than needing masking. Two more structural notes for open plan. Bedrooms are still behind doors, and a closed door is outside the machine's field, because the machine works through the air the home is circulating. So an open-plan flat is usually a hybrid: the machine for the whole shared volume, and a reed diffuser in the main bedroom where still enclosed air is exactly what evaporation is built for. Evening Calm at seven hundred and ninety-nine rupees for fifty millilitres or one thousand two hundred and ninety-nine for one hundred and thirty is lavender and chamomile and is the usual bedroom choice; Morning Freshness at seven hundred and forty-nine and one thousand two hundred and forty-nine is Malabar lemon with peppermint and eucalyptus, which suits a room near a kitchen because citrus and mint read as clean. And intensity in an open plan should start low: a single large volume at maximum output is the commonest mistake, and in a flat it is also what pushes scent into a common corridor when the front door opens. Three facts to hand over. The machine is waterless, so no tank and no humidity added, which matters in a closed air-conditioned flat. It runs under thirty-eight decibels, which matters in an open plan because there is no door between it and the sofa. And it arrives with four one hundred millilitre hotel-inspired oils included, so it works the evening it is opened, with refills afterwards at one thousand and forty-nine rupees for a hundred grams or one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine for three hundred - never the water-based Hotel Collection, which is for ultrasonic machines. In a new flat, open windows for the first few weeks while paint and new joinery air out before any of this begins.

Versailles
The Vaayu is the most expensive thing we make and we turn down more orders for it than for anything else in the range. Not because we do not want to sell it - because most homes do not need it. It covers up to a thousand cubic metres, roughly two to three thousand square feet, and that is a villa, a penthouse, a large open-plan flat or a house with a double-height room. An ordinary 2BHK is not that, and in an ordinary 2BHK a reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees does the job better than eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees of machine would. So the question we ask is never what somebody spent on their house. It is how many cubic metres of air are in it.
The second thing we say, and almost nobody expects it, is wait a few weeks. A brand-new home smells of paint, varnish, polish, cement and new wood, and those are not smells to cover - they need open windows and time, and they go on their own. Give the machine at the housewarming by all means, but tell them the scenting starts once the building has finished smelling of being built. It is the same rule we apply to a new car, for the same reason: adding fragrance to a smell that is fading anyway is how a good product gets blamed for a bad result.
Two honest limits. Reed diffusers do not fail in large homes, they simply do not reach - a diffuser on a console table scents the area around that console table, which is not a fault, it is physics, and several of them is a real alternative to one machine. And there are two machines above the Vaayu, the Angaan and the Meenar, which are HVAC units for showrooms and hotel floors rather than houses - so if a home is genuinely far beyond three thousand square feet, message us rather than assuming more money solves it.
