Why not something clever? Because his limiting factor is capacity rather than stock. Anything with a decision, a setup or a learning curve attached gets put on a shelf, and later has stopped existing.
What is the test? Count the decisions in the gift. Zero decisions is good. Any gift that needs him to choose something, configure something or read something has already failed.
Need has been replaced by capacity
The sentence is worth taking apart, because the obvious reading sends people in the wrong direction. He doesn't need anything sounds like a statement about possessions, and people respond to it by hunting for something he does not own - something unusual, something clever, something he would not have thought of. That is exactly the wrong move a few weeks into a first baby, and it produces the gifts that end up unopened on a sideboard. What the sentence actually describes, most of the time, is capacity. His day is fully committed. He is short of sleep in a way that makes decisions expensive. He has taken over the outside half of the household - the paediatrician, the pharmacy at eleven, relatives collected, the shopping, the midnight drive with a baby who will not settle - and he is managing a list that is longer than the day. In that state, receiving a new object is not free. Every gift arrives with a small processing cost: work out what it is, decide where it goes, learn how it works, choose between its options, find a place for the box. When capacity is the scarce thing, that cost is what decides whether a gift gets used, and it is invisible to everybody who is not in his position. So the test is not is this something he lacks. It is how many decisions does this gift contain. Count them honestly. Something that has to be assembled contains several. Something with settings contains one per setting. Something that needs a place in a house contains a decision about space, in a flat that has lost most of its free surface to a cot, a pram in the hall and a month of parcels. Something that needs a booking contains a decision plus a negotiation at home plus childcare, which is not a gift at all, it is an errand in nice packaging. A voucher is the purest version of this failure: it converts a present into a task and then quietly expires. Aim for zero decisions. That sounds restrictive and it is not, because several genuinely good things qualify. A hanging car perfume at four hundred and forty-nine to five hundred and nine rupees contains one action - hang it - and then nothing for weeks. It is also aimed at where a large share of his week now physically happens, and the car is the one space still entirely his, the place he sits for twenty minutes before going inside. Jasmine is four hundred and forty-nine, Lavender and Sandalwood four hundred and seventy-nine, Icy Mint four hundred and eighty-nine, Lemon four hundred and ninety-nine, Vetiver, Sea Breeze and Oud five hundred and nine. If he already has a holder, 15ml refills are three hundred and ninety-nine to four hundred and forty-nine, which contains fewer decisions still, because you are topping up something he already uses. A solid perfume at four hundred and fifty-nine to five hundred and forty-nine rupees has no learning curve whatsoever: fifteen grams of alcohol-free balm in a flat compact, opened with a thumb and applied with a finger. Four seconds, one hand, nothing to configure, nothing to spill in a bag or a glovebox, and no cap to unscrew and lose in a dark car park. Titan at five hundred is Arabica coffee, roasted wood, black pepper, frankincense and leather. Beast at five hundred and forty-nine is smoked whiskey, roasted coffee, spicy leather, amber resin and vanilla bark. Sway at four hundred and fifty-nine is dark cherry, espresso, cocoa, red patchouli and vanilla husk. Siren at four hundred and eighty-nine is black cherry, espresso, warm vanilla and cedar smoke. Sterling at four hundred and sixty-nine is coconut milk, almond nougat, white amber and powdered musk. An alcohol-free attar at three hundred and seventy-nine to three hundred and ninety-nine rupees is the same idea in a 12ml glass roll-on - undiluted perfume oil with no alcohol carrier, rolled onto pulse points, no spray mechanism and nothing to set up. It opens slowly and stays within an arm's length rather than projecting, which suits a year spent in cars, corridors and a flat where somebody is usually asleep. Nawaab at three hundred and ninety-nine is the most obviously masculine, a white oud composition built with Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron rather than a dehn al oud distillate. Ameeri at three hundred and eighty-five is Taif rose with Indian sandalwood. If he has worn the same designer fragrance for years, the Inspired By range from five hundred and ninety-nine holds that direction and names its inspiration openly rather than claiming to be the original - Tabac Noir, Khayaal, Samundar, Zaffran. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any other house. If you want to spend more, the rule does not change, it just applies at a higher price. The SOSA Safar at three thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees is a waterless car perfume diffuser and arrives as a complete thing for a man doing an extraordinary amount of driving; nebuliser refills are one thousand and forty-nine rupees per hundred grams. And if you give an ultrasonic diffuser - the Sukoon at one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine rupees, five hundred millilitres with a timer - give it with the water-based Hotel Collection concentrate at two hundred and ninety-nine, three to six drops per tank, because a machine with nothing to run in it is the single clearest example of a gift that hands somebody a decision. The three systems do not interchange, and reed oil must never go into a machine. Two closing notes. Anything for the baby is not a gift to him, it is a delivery he now has to store - and SOSA makes no products for babies or children in any case, with nothing in this range intended for a nursery, a cot, a pram or a child's belongings. And do not attach instructions. If the gift needs a paragraph explaining when it will come in handy, it has failed the test before it arrives.
Gifts with nothing to process
Counted in decisions rather than in price. Everything here is one action or none, and the device option is listed complete because a machine alone hands him a task.
| Scent | Why it suits the mood |
|---|---|
| Hanging car perfume ₹449 to ₹509 | One action - hang it - and then nothing for weeks. Aimed at where his week happens. Refills ₹399 to ₹449 if he has a holder, which is fewer decisions still. |
| Solid perfume ₹459 to ₹549 | No learning curve at all. Thumb, finger, four seconds, one hand. Nothing to configure, nothing to spill, no cap to lose. |
| Attar ₹379 to ₹399 | Rolls on. No spray mechanism, nothing to set up, and it stays within an arm's length rather than projecting. |
| Sukoon ₹1,899 with Hotel Collection ₹299 | If you want a device, this is it - complete, three to six drops per tank. The machine alone would be the clearest possible example of handing him a decision. |

Versailles
When somebody has a baby, the gifts arrive in a wave and almost every one of them is for the baby. Clothes the child outgrows in six weeks, toys for an age they have not reached, blankets in a cupboard that already has nine. It is all kind and it is all well meant. But two adults have just gone through something enormous, and by the end of the first month neither of them has received a single thing addressed to them.
That is the whole reason this section exists. We do not make anything for babies, and nothing we sell is meant for a nursery or for a child's things - we make fragrance for adults. What we can do is give somebody an answer when they say: everybody is buying for the baby, what do I give her, or him, or the two of them. Usually the answer is something small, consumable and completely undemanding, because a new parent has no free hands, no spare surface and no appetite for anything that needs setting up.
One honest thing. If the person you are buying for is pregnant, be careful with personal fragrance. A great many people find that what they want to be near changes during those months, and a bottle somebody cannot go near is a worse gift than nothing at all - so either choose something for their home or their car, or let them pick it themselves later. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 and tell us who the adult is and what you know about them, and we will tell you honestly if we think fragrance is the wrong call. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.
