Why not a bold projecting fragrance? Because his next year happens at conversational distance - cars, corridors, close quarters. Projection is a spec for a room you are trying to fill, which is not the room he is in.
What are the three formats? A car perfume at Rs 449 addresses a space; a solid perfume at Rs 459 lives in a bag and works one-handed; an attar at Rs 379 sits on skin at close range.
Projection is the wrong specification now
There is an unexamined assumption in nearly all fragrance gifting to men, which is that more projection is better. Projection is the distance at which a fragrance is noticeable - the ability to fill a room, to be detected across a table, to announce arrival. It is what the marketing of men's fragrance is almost entirely built around, and for a man whose evenings involve restaurants and whose days involve a large office, it is a defensible thing to optimise. It is not the right specification for this recipient, and the reason is simply geometry. Think about where the next year of his life physically happens. In a car, with one other adult beside him, driving to appointments. In a corridor or a waiting room, sitting next to her. In a small flat that is getting smaller as furniture arrives. And, after the birth, holding a newborn roughly thirty centimetres from his own face for several hours a day, in rooms where somebody is usually trying to sleep. At no point in that description is there a room he needs to fill. Every single one of those situations happens at conversational distance or closer, which means the useful specification is not how far it reaches but how well it behaves at close range - whether it opens quietly, whether it stays where it is put, and whether it stops being interesting after twenty minutes. That is a different product, and it is a category that alcohol-free fragrance happens to be good at, for a structural rather than a marketing reason. An alcohol carrier evaporates quickly and carries the fragrance outward with it, which is precisely how projection is engineered. Undiluted perfume oil has no carrier doing that, so it opens softly, sits closer to the skin, and unfolds slowly rather than announcing itself. That is a weakness if you are trying to be noticed from the other side of a room and a genuine advantage if you are going to be six inches from somebody's face. So, three formats, and it is worth being clear that they do three genuinely different jobs rather than being three price points of the same idea. The first addresses a space. A hanging car perfume at four hundred and forty-nine to five hundred and nine rupees is the single most useful fragrance gift for this man, because the car is where a startling proportion of his next two years takes place - scans, appointments, car parks, urgent errands, relatives ferried around, and eventually the eleven o'clock drive with a baby who will not settle. It is also the one space that stays entirely his. Jasmine is four hundred and forty-nine, Lavender and Sandalwood four hundred and seventy-nine, Icy Mint four hundred and eighty-nine, Lemon four hundred and ninety-nine, Vetiver, Sea Breeze and Oud five hundred and nine. Two-piece combinations run eight hundred and ninety-nine to nine hundred and forty-nine, 15ml refills three hundred and ninety-nine to four hundred and forty-nine if he has a holder, a Mysore Orange Blossom car spray five hundred and forty-nine, and a three-piece discovery set six hundred and ninety-nine. The premium version is the SOSA Safar at three thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees, a waterless car perfume diffuser, with nebuliser refills at one thousand and forty-nine rupees per hundred grams. The second format addresses a bag, and this is the one that gets used most often in practice. A solid perfume at four hundred and fifty-nine to five hundred and forty-nine rupees is fifteen grams of alcohol-free balm in a flat compact, applied with a finger. It cannot spill into a bag or a glovebox. It has no cap to unscrew and lose in a car park. It survives months of being carried. And it works with one hand, which is a specification nobody writes down and which becomes the most important feature of the object about a fortnight after the birth. It is also, by construction, a close-range fragrance: applied with a finger to a pulse point, it is felt by people standing next to him and by almost nobody else. Titan at five hundred is Arabica coffee, roasted wood, black pepper, frankincense and leather. Beast at five hundred and forty-nine is smoked whiskey, roasted coffee, spicy leather, amber resin and vanilla bark. Sway at four hundred and fifty-nine is dark cherry, espresso, cocoa, red patchouli and vanilla husk. Siren at four hundred and eighty-nine is black cherry, espresso, warm vanilla and cedar smoke. Sterling at four hundred and sixty-nine is coconut milk, almond nougat, white amber and powdered musk. The third format addresses skin directly. An alcohol-free attar at three hundred and seventy-nine to three hundred and ninety-nine rupees is a 12ml glass roll-on of undiluted perfume oil - the quietest thing here and the most traditional. Nawaab at three hundred and ninety-nine is the most obviously masculine, a white oud composition built with Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron rather than a dehn al oud distillate, and that is worth saying plainly rather than letting the word oud imply an attar it is not. Ameeri at three hundred and eighty-five is Taif rose with Indian sandalwood, warmer and more traditional. Adaa at three hundred and seventy-nine is bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac and white musk. Mastani at three hundred and eighty-nine is night jasmine and Damask rose. If you would rather he chose, the Attar Trio at one thousand and fifty-five rupees is three 12ml bottles in one box. If he has worn the same designer fragrance for years and you want the direction without pretending otherwise, the Inspired By range starts at five hundred and ninety-nine and names its inspiration openly rather than claiming to be the original - Tabac Noir for tobacco and vanilla, Khayaal for sparkling bergamot and neroli, Samundar for aquatic and marine, Bahaar for English pear and freesia, Zaffran for saffron with sweet amber, Chashni for sweet fruity gourmand. These are SOSA's own interpretations and are not affiliated with any other house, which is the honest way to describe them. One more thing worth saying, because this is a fragrance page in a section about babies and the line needs to be explicit. Nothing here is a product for an infant, nothing is intended for a nursery, a cot, a pram or a child's belongings, and SOSA makes no products for babies or children at all. Nothing on this page is health, medical or safety advice, and no product is described as safe or unsafe to use around anybody in particular - alcohol-free is a formulation fact about how these are made, not a safety claim. The recommendation here is about what suits the distances a new father's year is actually conducted at, which is a matter of how fragrance behaves rather than a claim about anything else.
Three formats, three different jobs
Three jobs, not three budgets. The solid perfume is the one that gets used most often in practice, for reasons of format rather than fragrance.

Versailles
When somebody has a baby, the gifts arrive in a wave and almost every one of them is for the baby. Clothes the child outgrows in six weeks, toys for an age they have not reached, blankets in a cupboard that already has nine. It is all kind and it is all well meant. But two adults have just gone through something enormous, and by the end of the first month neither of them has received a single thing addressed to them.
That is the whole reason this section exists. We do not make anything for babies, and nothing we sell is meant for a nursery or for a child's things - we make fragrance for adults. What we can do is give somebody an answer when they say: everybody is buying for the baby, what do I give her, or him, or the two of them. Usually the answer is something small, consumable and completely undemanding, because a new parent has no free hands, no spare surface and no appetite for anything that needs setting up.
One honest thing. If the person you are buying for is pregnant, be careful with personal fragrance. A great many people find that what they want to be near changes during those months, and a bottle somebody cannot go near is a worse gift than nothing at all - so either choose something for their home or their car, or let them pick it themselves later. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 and tell us who the adult is and what you know about them, and we will tell you honestly if we think fragrance is the wrong call. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.
