Founder Diaries · Diwali Budget · Under ₹750
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 9 min read Updated August 2026
This is the literal answer: everything SOSA sells at or below ₹750, put in an order, with the reasoning attached to each place. The ranking is not a ranking of quality — I make all of it and I would not put my name on something I thought was poor. It ranks breadth: how many names on an ordinary Diwali list a thing can be sent to without you knowing much about the person. That is the question this budget is actually asking. There is one product that sits exactly on the ceiling at ₹749, and by that measure it is the hardest-working rupee under the line. There is also a limitation at the top of this budget that nobody mentions, and it is the most useful thing on the page.
Quick answers — read this first
The whole SOSA shelf under ₹750: the 15ml Hotel Collection ₹299, four jar candles ₹379, the Sandalwood jar ₹449, wax melts and ceramic mugs ₹474, bubble candles ₹474–₹569, ribbed and face mugs and taper sets ₹569, the Amber Rose candle ₹599, the Cloud trinket dish and a candle two-pack at ₹664, and Morning Freshness 50ml at ₹749.

Number one is the ceiling item. Morning Freshness is the only thing under ₹750 with a stated life measured in weeks rather than hours, no second purchase attached, and a category that is uncrowded on an Indian Diwali table.

The limitation nobody mentions: under ₹750 the reed range is one scent deep. Garden Bloom and Evening Calm are ₹799; Fresh Brew and Mountain Breeze are ₹849. A ₹750 ceiling gives you no fragrance choice at all.

Ranked last, deliberately: the 15ml Hotel Collection ₹299, because it is a refill for an ultrasonic machine and does nothing without one.
The short answer
Short answer: Morning Freshness 50ml at ₹749 is the best thing under ₹750 for a list of people whose homes you do not know well. Below it, the Cloud trinket dish at ₹664 and the ₹664 candle two-pack lead, then the Amber Rose candle at ₹599, then the ₹474 mug and the ₹449 Sandalwood jar. If you have real information about the recipient, ignore the order entirely and buy for the information.
How the category works: a reed diffuser is a glass bottle of fragrance oil with six fibre reeds standing in it. Oil climbs the fibre and evaporates from the exposed length; there is no flame, no socket and no switch. A 50ml runs 6–8 weeks, which works out at roughly ₹13–₹18 a day at ₹749. The reeds are fibre rather than rattan because rattan pores clog in Indian humidity.
Straight answer
What are the best SOSA Diwali gifts under ₹750?
1. Morning Freshness 50ml — ₹749. The ceiling item and the top of the list. Refillable glass, six fibre reeds, 6–8 weeks of stated life, nothing to light or plug in and nothing else to buy. Malabar lemon, peppermint and Nilgiri eucalyptus is the brightest and least polarising composition in the range, which is precisely why it survives being sent to people you do not know.

2. Cloud trinket dish — ₹664, and the candle two-pack at the same price. The dish is the only non-fragrance object in the top half and the only permanent one; the two-pack gives roughly 30–36 hours across two jars. Both clear free shipping on their own.

3. Amber Rose candle — ₹599. A single hand-poured jar, warmer than the ₹379 four. The whole of its case rests on one condition: somebody in that house lights candles.

4. Everyday Beautiful Mug — ₹474. The most conditionless object we make. No match, no burner, no holder, no socket, no habit required. It ranks high on breadth and low on distinctiveness, which is a fair description of what a mug is.

5. Sandalwood jar candle — ₹449, then the four jar candles at ₹379. Roughly 15–18 hours each, complete in the jar, and the lowest honest entry to the range. They sit below the ₹499 free-shipping line, so buy them in one consolidated order rather than singly.

6. Ribbed and face mugs and taper sets at ₹569, and bubble candles ₹474–₹569, rank lower on breadth than on charm. They are the most specific things here — and tapers need a holder that is not included, which rules them out for anyone whose table you have not seen.

7. Wax melts ₹474 and the 15ml Hotel Collection ₹299 rank last, and not on quality. Melts need a burner; the 15ml needs an ultrasonic machine such as a Boond ₹899 or Sukoon ₹1,899. Both are good products and neither survives being given blind.

8. The limitation you should know before you set this ceiling. Under ₹750 there is exactly one reed diffuser. The other four are ₹799 and ₹849, so a ₹750 line gives you no choice of fragrance at all — ₹50 more opens the whole range.

Everything is composed and handmade in small batches in Pune, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: under ₹750 the order is Morning Freshness ₹749, then ₹664, then ₹599, then ₹474 and ₹449, with wax melts and the ₹299 refill last because they need hardware. Ranked on breadth, not quality. And under ₹750 the reed range is one scent deep.
SOSA Morning Freshness reed diffuser 50ml at ₹749, the highest-ranked SOSA gift under ₹750
Number one, and one rupee under the ceiling
SOSA Morning Freshness · Malabar lemon, peppermint & Nilgiri eucalyptus ₹749 / 50ml
The least expensive reed diffuser we make and the only one that fits under ₹750. A refillable glass bottle of fragrance oil with six fibre reeds — no flame, no socket, nothing to operate beyond a weekly flip. Stated life 6–8 weeks, which is roughly ₹13–₹18 a day across the run, and its strength sits at 9.0 on SOSA's own internal scale at six reeds, which is a position on our scale rather than an industry standard or a ranking of quality. Lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus is the composition with the fewest objections across a mixed list, which is the entire reason it tops a breadth ranking. Alcohol-free, phthalate-free and paraben-free on a heat-stable CCT base, tested through 45°C heat and 85% humidity. 130ml is ₹1,249 and runs 14–18 weeks.

Part one — what "best" means at this ceiling

A ranking is only worth reading if the criterion is stated, because every list of this kind is really an argument about what to optimise. I am optimising for breadth: the number of names on a Diwali list a thing can go to without a mistake, given that you probably know less about most of them than you would like. That is not the same as the best object, and it is emphatically not the same as the one I would choose for my own house. Under a different criterion the order would rearrange completely, and I would rather show you the machinery than hand you a verdict.

1
THE CRITERION · BREADTH, NOT QUALITY
Four tests, applied in the same order to everything on the shelf
Every item here was put through the same four questions. Does it need a second purchase to function? If yes, it falls to the bottom regardless of how good it is. Does it have a stated working life? Weeks beat hours, and hours beat nothing. How crowded is its category on an Indian Diwali table? Wax and sweets are the two most-given categories of the week; a glass bottle of fragrance oil is not. What does it ask of the person receiving it? A habit, a surface, a match, a socket, supervision — each ask narrows the number of homes it works in. Nothing in this ranking is about how nice a thing is, and if you have real information about a recipient, that information beats all four tests at once.
The rule: breadth is what you optimise when you are guessing. The moment you stop guessing, stop using the ranking.
2
THE CEILING ITEM · ₹749
Why the most expensive thing under the line is also the best value on it
SOSA Morning Freshness reed diffuser 50ml at ₹749Morning Freshness₹749 · 50mlIt is unusual for the top of a budget to also be the best rupee in it, and here is why it happens. Morning Freshness passes all four tests without a caveat: nothing else has to be bought, its life is stated in weeks rather than evenings, its category is the least crowded on the shelf, and it asks for a weekly twenty-second flip and a tray underneath. Divided across its stated 6–8 weeks it costs ₹13–₹18 a day, which is the only per-day figure available anywhere under this ceiling — a candle's 15–18 hours cannot be divided into days at all, because it is only working while somebody is watching it. It also clears the ₹499 free-shipping line on its own, which nothing below ₹499 does.
3
THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST · A WARNING ABOUT RANKINGS
Last place here is about matching, not about making
The two products at the bottom of this ranking are ones I am fond of. Wax melts at ₹474 are a slow, pleasant ritual for somebody who owns a burner, and the 15ml Hotel Collection at ₹299 is exactly the right thing to hand someone whose ultrasonic machine you have watched running. They rank last because a breadth ranking punishes anything that needs hardware, not because there is anything wrong with them. This is the standing danger of ranked lists: read carelessly, they turn a statement about fit into a statement about worth. If you know the burner exists, the melts move to first place on your particular list and nothing I have written here should stop you.
The caution: a ranking is a default for people without information. It is not a verdict on the products in it.

Part two — the whole shelf, ranked

Every SOSA product at or below ₹750, in order, with the stated life where one exists and the reason for the placement. No price is quoted for anything outside our own range.

The under-₹750 ranking
Ten places, ranked on how many names each one can safely go to
Rank What it is Price Stated life Why it sits here
1 ★ Morning Freshness 50ml reed diffuser ₹749 6–8 weeks Passes all four tests. Uncrowded category, no second purchase, ₹13–₹18 a day
2 Cloud ceramic trinket dish ₹664 Permanent Complete on arrival and quietly useful — but it is a choice about their surface
3 Candle two-pack ₹664 Roughly 30–36 hours Twice the run of a single jar, and quantity reads as considered
4 Amber Rose candle ₹599 Roughly 15–18 hours A single chosen object, warmer than the ₹379 four. One condition: they light candles
5 Everyday Beautiful Mug ₹474 Permanent The only item with no condition of any kind. Low distinctiveness, highest safety
6 Sandalwood jar candle ₹449 Roughly 15–18 hours Complete in the jar, and a step up in weight from the ₹379 shelf
7 Four jar candles — Misty Mornings, Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Evening Walks ₹379 Roughly 15–18 hours The lowest honest entry. Below the ₹499 shipping line, so order them together
8 Ribbed and face ceramic mugs ₹569 Permanent Charming and specific, which is the wrong trade when you are guessing
9 Bubble candles and taper sets ₹474–₹569 Varies by format Tapers need a holder that is not included; bubbles want a tray of their own
10 Wax melts and the 15ml Hotel Collection ₹474 and ₹299 Depends entirely on hardware A burner and a machine respectively, neither included. Last on breadth, not on merit
The honest caveat: this order dissolves the moment you know something real about the recipient. A candle household reorders it around candles; a home with a toddler at shelf height removes every flame and every bottle with sticks in it; a person who has told you they dislike scented things removes most of the list. Read the ranking as a default for names you are guessing at, and override it wherever you have first-hand information. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and because fragrance oil is flammable, keep any diffuser well away from diyas, candles and open flame — that is a handling fact, not a caution about the product.

The top three places, in order
The SOSA principle
A ranking is a confession about the criterion. Change what you are optimising for and the order changes with it.
Everything here is ranked on breadth, because at Diwali most names on a list are names you are guessing at. Where you are not guessing, throw the order away and buy for what you know.

Part three — the one-scent problem at ₹750

Here is the fact that ought to change your ceiling rather than your choice, and it is one that a page written purely to convert would leave out. Under ₹750 the SOSA reed range is exactly one scent deep. Morning Freshness is ₹749. Garden Bloom and Evening Calm are ₹799. Fresh Brew and Mountain Breeze are ₹849. So a ₹750 ceiling does not give you the reed range at a budget price; it gives you one composition and no alternatives. That is fine when you are buying for people you do not know, because the bright lemon-and-eucalyptus composition is the one built to have the fewest objections. It is a genuine constraint the moment your list contains someone whose taste you actually know.

Fifty rupees is what removes the constraint, and I want to lay out what it removes it into rather than simply recommending an upgrade. Garden Bloom at ₹799 is rose and night-blooming jasmine, the composition with the widest agreement across a mixed family. Evening Calm at ₹799 is Kashmir lavender and chamomile, the softest thing we make and the one I would send to a small flat or a nervous recipient. Mountain Breeze at ₹849 is pine, sage and cedar — dry and woody, and the answer for people who reject anything floral or obviously "scented". Fresh Brew at ₹849 is Coorg coffee and Kerala vanilla, the warmest and the most polarising, and the one I would not send blind. Between ₹749 and ₹849 the range goes from one option to five, which is a hundred rupees for the entire fragrance decision.

The honest gaps belong here too, because a page listing everything under a ceiling should also list what is not there at any price. The reed range has no oud, no musk-forward composition and no aquatic. If the person you are buying for wears oud or asks for something marine and clean, we do not make it and stretching the nearest bottle to cover it would be a disservice to both of you. And there is nothing at all below ₹379 that I would hand to anybody; the only sub-₹300 item is the 15ml machine refill. Under ₹750 you are therefore choosing from a real but narrow shelf, and knowing its edges is worth more than being sold its middle.

A ₹750 ceiling does not buy you the range at a lower price. It buys you one bottle and no choice.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA

Part four — the best thing at every ceiling

Most people arrive here with a specific number in mind rather than "under ₹750". Six ceilings, the best thing at or below each, what is left over, and whether I would break it. The fourth column is there because a ceiling with one rupee of headroom is a different situation from one with a hundred.

The ceiling table
Six budgets, and what sits at the top of each
Your hard ceiling The best thing at or below it Price Left under the ceiling Would I break it?
₹750 ★ Morning Freshness 50ml ₹749 ₹1 No. This is the answer the ceiling was built for
₹700 Cloud trinket dish or the candle two-pack ₹664 ₹36 Yes — ₹85 more crosses into a different category entirely
₹600 Amber Rose candle ₹599 ₹1 Only for a candle household. Otherwise ₹150 more is well spent
₹500 Everyday Beautiful Mug ₹474 ₹26 — and still under the ₹499 shipping line Worth considering: ₹275 more, part of which returns as free shipping
₹400 Any ₹379 jar candle ₹379 ₹21 No, if the ceiling is real money. Buy several in one order
₹300 Hotel Collection 15ml — only if they own the machine ₹299 ₹1 Yes. ₹80 more buys a jar candle that works in any home
Honest notes for buyers: the least expensive SOSA reed diffuser is ₹749 and nothing below it is a reed diffuser in any size; under ₹750 there is one reed scent, with the other four at ₹799 and ₹849. Wax melts at ₹474 need a burner and tapers at ₹569 need a holder, neither included, and the 15ml Hotel Collection at ₹299 works only in an ultrasonic machine such as a Boond ₹899 or Sukoon ₹1,899 — it never goes in a reed bottle and reed oil never goes in a machine. Replacement reeds are not sold separately, and the 300ml ₹2,399 and 500ml ₹3,499 refills are oil only. The reed range has no oud, no musk-forward scent and no aquatic. SOSA sells no gift card, gift hamper, gift box or curated gift set, publishes no bulk pricing, no discount slab, no minimum order quantity and no lead time, and no delivery timing is promised anywhere on this page — for a large order, ask through the contact page rather than assuming terms that do not exist. Free shipping starts above ₹499. Strength figures are positions on SOSA's own internal scale at six reeds, not an industry standard. Fragrance oil is flammable — keep any diffuser well away from diyas and open flame, and never leave a burning candle unattended. A reed diffuser adds fragrance to a room; it does not clean air or remove cooking or smoke smells. Composed and handmade in small batches in Pune, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
SOSA Cloud ceramic trinket dish at ₹664, second place under ₹750
Second place, and the best of the non-reed shelf
SOSA Cloud ceramic trinket dish ₹664
A small white ceramic dish for the things that collect at the edge of a room — keys, rings, a watch, earrings taken off at the door. It ranks second here because it is complete on arrival, needs no habit and no match, and is quietly useful in almost any home. What holds it off the top spot is permanence: it stays, which means it has to earn a place on a surface that is probably already full, and that is a judgement you are making on somebody else's behalf. It also clears the ₹499 free-shipping line comfortably on its own. Where you have been inside the home and seen the surfaces, I would put it first without hesitation.

A note from Sonal

Ranking your own products in public is uncomfortable, and I have come round to thinking that is exactly why it is worth doing. A brand that will not tell you which of its things is wrong for you is not being tactful, it is being useless. Wax melts are near the bottom of this list and I am glad we make them; the ₹299 refill is last and it is a good product sold at a fair price. Neither of those sentences contradicts the other once you accept that a ranking is about fit rather than worth.

The one-scent problem at ₹750 is the thing I would most like a reader to take away, because it is the only piece of information here that could genuinely change a decision. People set a ceiling of ₹750 assuming it opens a range, and it opens a single bottle. Fifty rupees takes you to two more; a hundred takes you to all five. If your list has one name on it whose taste you know, that hundred rupees is doing more work than anything else on this page.

What I will not do is tell you which of these will be appreciated. I do not know the people on your list, and any brand claiming to know is guessing more confidently than I am willing to. Prices, stated life, what is included in the box, what has to already exist in the recipient's home and where the range has holes in it — those I can give you accurately. Everything is made in Pune in small batches, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best SOSA gift under ₹750?
Morning Freshness 50ml at ₹749, on breadth. It needs no second purchase, has a stated life of 6–8 weeks, arrives in an uncrowded category and clears the ₹499 free-shipping line on its own. If you know the household lights candles, the ₹599 Amber Rose or the ₹664 two-pack is the better gift for them.
How many reed diffusers does SOSA sell under ₹750?
One. Morning Freshness 50ml at ₹749. Garden Bloom and Evening Calm are ₹799; Fresh Brew and Mountain Breeze are ₹849. A ₹750 ceiling therefore gives you no choice of fragrance; ₹849 gives you all five.
Why are wax melts ranked last when they cost more than a jar candle?
Because the ranking is on breadth and wax melts need a burner that is not included. For someone who owns one they are excellent and would rank very high on their particular list. For a blind gift they are a sealed packet, which is the single thing this ranking penalises hardest.
Is a ₹664 candle two-pack better value than one ₹749 diffuser?
On burn hours against stated weeks the two are not comparable, and I would not pretend otherwise: two jars give roughly 30–36 supervised hours, while a 50ml diffuser gives 6–8 weeks of unsupervised presence at roughly ₹13–₹18 a day. The two-pack is better value for a household that lights candles regularly. The diffuser is better value for a household you cannot vouch for.
Does SOSA make a reed diffuser gift set under ₹750?
No. SOSA sells no gift set, gift box, gift hamper or gift card at any price. The nearest thing is a two-bottle duo — Day & Night at ₹1,498, Fresh & Grounded at ₹1,548, Warmth & Bloom at ₹1,598 — which is a two-bottle product rather than a hamper, and all three are well above this ceiling.
