Drier and modern? The 1 Hotels-inspired Forest Suite. Evening room? The W Hotels-inspired Lobby Bar.
The three decisions: how much soft absorbent textile is in the room; whether there is real leather in it; and whether it is an evening room or an all-day room.
2. Use the lowest dose in the house. Two to three drops, against the five or six a marble-and-glass room needs. Hide, cut pile, wool and lined curtains take up fragrance and give it back for days — these rooms are the opposite extreme to hard, bright, stone-floored spaces.
3. If there is real leather, the clean scents are out. Cool, hygienic brightness over the tannin-and-hide smell of genuine leather reads as a freshly valeted car. That rules out the two white-tea scents wherever aniline or semi-aniline hide is present.
4. Choose as though it were permanent. It nearly is. There is no rinse cycle for upholstery, and a scent that has been running for a month leaves the textiles over roughly the next one. Test with a ₹299 bottle for a fortnight before buying anything larger.
5. Never aim the mist at the materials. Ultrasonic mist is water. It darkens and marks aniline leather, flattens and marks velvet pile, spots raw silk, and accelerates tarnish on unlacquered brass. Machine on a tray, a clear metre around it, plume into open air.

The most absorbent rooms in a home, and what follows from that
Start with the physics, because everything else in this guide is a consequence of it. Fragrance is held by porous material. Velvet is a cut pile whose effective surface area is many times its apparent size; wool rugs, lined curtains, deep upholstery, silk cushions and open bookshelves all do the same thing on a smaller scale; even leather, unless it is fully sealed under pigment, takes some up. A room built from those materials absorbs fragrance greedily and re-releases it slowly for days. Compare that with a marble-and-glass interior, which is the opposite extreme in this cluster — stone, mirror, lacquer and metal absorb essentially nothing, so scent stays airborne, disperses fast and is gone within an hour of the machine stopping. Those rooms need five or six drops and still will not hold anything overnight. These need two, and hold everything. Same machine, same bottle, opposite instruction.
Two consequences follow that nobody else states plainly. The first is commitment. Because the textiles are storing the fragrance rather than the air, a scent you have run for a month is in the pile, the rug backing and the curtain lining, and it comes out on its own schedule over roughly the next month. You cannot un-scent a velvet sofa. Choose the scent the way you chose the upholstery, because changing your mind means weeks of the old one fading while the new one arrives. The second is that leather has a strong smell of its own. Real aniline and semi-aniline hide smells distinctly of tannins and skin, loudest when new, and most fragrances fight it. Amber and dry woods share resinous and faintly animalic ground with it and sit alongside it naturally. Bright citrus and clean tea notes clash, and the result is unmistakable: air freshener over a car interior.
The three decisions
Hotel CollectionPack of 7 · ₹1,799Do the audit rather than measuring the room. List the porous things — upholstery, rugs, floor-length curtains, cushions, throws, books — and the hard things — stone, glass, brass, lacquer, bare floor. Velvet sofa plus lined curtains plus a wool rug puts you at two drops on a Sukoon. An even split puts you at three. Mostly metal, marble and glass with one velvet chair is a hard room in disguise and wants four or five — which is why brass-heavy rooms run against the rule of this family. All seven, compared for rich interiors
The whole range set against leather, velvet, wool and brass, written in interior terms rather than in perfumery ones. Two of the seven are genuinely unsuited wherever real hide is present, and the table says so. The Pack of 7 at ₹1,799 lets you check that for yourself.
| Scent | Notes | Character | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
|
The St. Regis-inspired ★ Old-World Glamour |
Amber · violet · woods | Plush, powdery, resinous | The default — velvet, real leather, jewel colour, lamplight |
|
1 Hotels-inspired Forest Suite |
Cedarwood · vetiver · green leaves | Dry, green, grounded | Leather-and-wood studies; cool grey or olive velvet; modern lines |
|
W Hotels-inspired Lobby Bar |
Citrus · pepper · amber | Bold, spiced, after-dark | Lounges, bar corners, brass-heavy rooms used for entertaining |
|
Four Seasons-inspired Warm Welcome |
Citrus · floral · sandalwood | Gracious, creamy-warm | Softer family rooms — camel velvet, warm timber, relaxed use |
|
Shangri-La-inspired Tea Garden |
Jasmine · green tea · white tea | Green-floral, garden-bright | Velvet without leather, in a lighter and airier sitting room |
| Not in this family, for reference: The Ritz-Carlton-inspired Quiet Luxury and Westin-inspired White Tea Serenity are the two to avoid wherever there is genuine leather — cool and hygienic over the tannin-and-hide smell of real hide reads as air freshener over a car interior. Dose, placement, and the caution these rooms actually need
Set the dose from the audit, not the area. Two drops on a Sukoon for a velvet-heavy room; three for a mixed one; four to five if the space is mostly brass, marble, glass and bare floor with soft accents. The reference point is that a genuinely hard interior of the same footprint needs five or six and still loses everything within the hour, so if you are scenting a marble hall and a velvet drawing room in the same flat you should be running visibly different doses in the two. Run thirty to forty minutes and then stop for a day.
Place the machine about a metre up on a console near the room's entry point, on a tray, plume pointing into open air rather than at any surface. Keep it out of the draught of an air conditioner, which will drive the entire output onto one panel of fabric. For an L-shaped or open-plan space, add a second machine in the far zone rather than increasing the dose in the first — a Boond at ₹899 does that job well, and in a small, densely furnished room it is the right machine outright.
The caution for this whole family of interiors, and it is a real one: do not aim ultrasonic mist at leather, velvet, silk or unlacquered brass. Settling water can darken and permanently mark aniline and semi-aniline hide, flatten and mark cut pile, spot raw silk, and accelerate tarnish on bare brass, which tarnishes through reaction with moisture and air. Lacquered brass will not tarnish but shows water spots. Stand the unit on a tray rather than on polished timber, and use filtered water in hard-water cities — mineral residue settles into texture far more visibly than onto a flat surface.
What to buy
One machine per zone, one fragrance you have genuinely tested, and a smaller bottle than the room size suggests. These are the cheapest rooms in the house to scent and the most expensive to get wrong.

Versailles
The rooms in this guide are the ones I most enjoy walking into and the ones I most often have to argue with. They are built from materials with presence — hide, pile, wool, warm metal — and the people who chose them chose carefully. Then they treat the fragrance as a finishing touch to be applied generously, which is exactly the wrong instinct for a room that is already holding everything you give it.
If you take one thing from this guide, make it the inversion. A marble flat needs more fragrance than its size suggests and will never hold a scent overnight. A velvet drawing room needs less than you would believe and will hold one for a week. Most homes contain both, and almost nobody doses them differently. That single adjustment does more than changing scent ever will.
And be slow about it. Buy the Pack of 7 at ₹1,799 or a single 15ml at ₹299, run two drops for a fortnight, and judge it on a quiet morning with the machine off — the version living in your fabric is the version you are buying. Keep the mist off the leather and the brass. A portion of what you spend funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.
