Is a diffuser safe for asthma? I cannot claim it is safe or beneficial for asthma, and I will not. Whether it bothers you is individual and a medical question. Please speak to your doctor, who knows your history, before using one regularly.
What precautions help? If your doctor is comfortable with it: use filtered water, keep the room ventilated, start with a very light scent on a low setting, and stop if you notice any breathing symptoms. But the medical decision belongs with your doctor.
What could be a trigger, and why it varies
To be useful and honest at the same time, let me explain plainly what about a diffuser could act as a trigger for some people, without pretending to know how it will affect you specifically.
Added humidity. An ultrasonic diffuser raises the moisture in the air around it. For some people that is soothing; for others, humidity itself can be a trigger. This is individual.
Mineral dust. Hard tap water leaves a fine mineral mist that can irritate sensitive airways. Filtered or RO water reduces this, but it is a reason care matters.
Fragrance. For some people with asthma, any fragrance in the air, natural or composed, can be a trigger. That includes a water-based diffuser fragrance. I will not pretend otherwise.
Sensible precautions, and why your doctor decides
I want to give you practical steps, but I want to frame them correctly: they are precautions to discuss with your doctor, not a green light from me.
The claim I refuse to make: "A diffuser is safe for asthma," or worse, "it helps asthma." I will not say either. A diffuser is not a treatment, it is not therapy, and it can be a trigger for some people. Anyone telling you a diffuser is good for asthma is overstepping what can honestly be said.
If, and only if, you and your doctor are comfortable trying one: use filtered water, keep the room well ventilated, start with a very light scent on the lowest setting, run it briefly at first, and stop immediately if you notice any tightness, coughing or wheeze.
Those steps reduce some of the variables, but they do not make it safe for everyone, and they are not a substitute for medical advice. Your doctor knows your triggers, your medication and your history. The decision about whether to use a diffuser at all, and how, is a medical one that belongs with them.
The honest summary: a diffuser can be a trigger for some people with asthma, there is no one-size answer, and we make no claim that it is safe or helpful for asthma. If you have asthma, consult your doctor before regular use. This is general information, not medical advice.
Fill with clean, room-temperature water (filtered or RO in hard-water cities to avoid mineral white dust), never hot water. The mist is cool, with no heat, and it scents a room rather than purifying the air. Use only SOSA's water-based Hotel Collection fragrance in these diffusers. Raw essential oils, perfumes and carrier oils are too thick or solvent-heavy, so they can clog the ultrasonic misting plate and damage the unit.

Versailles
I trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA in Versailles, but half the questions we get are not about scent at all - they are about the machine. Indian rooms are bone-dry from AC and winter, and most gadget diffusers are too small, too loud, or quit by midnight. So we made three: Boond (300ml, desk), Sukoon (500ml, bedroom, with a remote and mood light) and Megh (6L, whole-room), each shipping with three of our fragrances.
They are cool-mist ultrasonic diffusers - an ultrasonic plate turns water into a fine, cool mist with no heating element, so there is no boiling water or burn risk, and each has an auto shut-off when the tank runs dry.
One thing I say on every listing and will say here: use only SOSA's water-based Hotel Collection fragrance. Raw essential oils, perfumes and carrier oils are thick or solvent-heavy and can clog the misting plate and damage the unit. A few drops of our water-based fragrance in the tank mists cleanly and scents the whole room.
