A traditional Diwali hamper is a box of things — some sweets, some dry fruit, perhaps a diya and a card. It is generous, but it rarely feels designed. A fragrance hamper can, if you build it the way I build one: around a single hero, in one scent family, at a tier that fits the person. Done that way it stops being a basket and becomes a gift that scents a home for months. Here is the method, in three clean tiers.

Before the tiers, the two rules I never break. First, a hamper needs a hero — one item that anchors it. Five small things of equal weight look like a sample box; a diffuser or a good candle at the centre, supported by reeds, looks like a gift someone planned. Second, keep the scents in one family. If the candle is warm amber, let the reeds lean warm too — coffee-vanilla, rose-jasmine — so the whole hamper tells one story. Mix fresh citrus with heavy oud and it reads as random.
