Chocolate fails on two of the four and has a further problem specific to this occasion, which is duration of association. A perishable gift is on a clock from the moment it is handed over, and in a household it is eaten within a day or two by whoever reaches it first - frequently not the guest who received it, and almost never with any thought about where it came from. Within a week nothing remains that is associated with the wedding.
