Why does that matter? Because almost all fragrance advice assumes the ground floor is the living floor. If yours is parking and a store, a machine there is scenting a space nobody sits in.
What about the entrance then? There are usually two thresholds: the street door at ground level and the door into the living floor above. The one that matters is the second.
In a three-storey house the ground floor often is not the living floor
Nearly everything written about fragrancing a house assumes that the ground floor is the living floor: that you walk in at street level into a hall, that the dining and kitchen are there, and that bedrooms are above. In a great many Indian three-storey homes, particularly independent houses on narrow plots in cities, that assumption is simply wrong, and following advice built on it produces a plan that misses the house entirely. The common layout runs like this. The ground floor is given over to parking, a utility area, a washing space, a store, a staircase and sometimes a room let out or kept for staff. It is a service level. The first floor is the actual living floor: the hall, the dining area, the kitchen, sometimes a bedroom. The second floor is bedrooms, and above that there is often a terrace. If that describes your house, then the first correction is obvious once stated: a machine on the ground floor is scenting a space nobody sits in. Worse, a covered parking area cannot hold fragrance at all, because it is effectively outdoor air that exchanges continuously with the street - the same reason covered terraces and balconies cannot hold it. So the machine belongs on the first floor, and the qualifying test should be run there rather than at street level. Walk that floor at an ordinary hour of an ordinary day, changing nothing, and count the closed doors between the hall, the dining area and the stair landing on that level. Zero closed doors means the living floor is one connected volume, and the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 qualifies - waterless, so there is nothing to fill before an evening or empty after, with app and timer control so a daily cycle and a hosting cycle stay separate. A compact hall on that floor takes a Sukoon at Rs 1,799 instead, and a partly open arrangement takes a Megh at Rs 3,499 with its 6L tank. If that floor is compartmented - a separate closed hall, a closed dining room - then no machine qualifies there either, and bottles serve the house better. The entrance question also changes, and this is the part people miss. A three-storey house of this type has two thresholds. There is the street door at ground level, which opens into a service area, and there is the door into the living floor above. The one that matters for fragrance is the second, because the value of a threshold position comes from somebody arriving with an unadapted nose into a space that people actually occupy. Everybody who lives in a home has adapted to its background within about an hour and perceives very little of it, which makes arrival the only moment anybody experiences the place properly - but that moment happens when they reach the living floor, not when they step off the street into a parking area. So put the permanent passive source at the top of the stairs where people enter the hall, not at the street door. A reed at Rs 749 to Rs 849, or a Boond at Rs 799 where that entrance is larger. Above the living floor, the bedroom level is treated exactly as the upper floor of any house. Long dwell means everybody adapts within an hour and perceives almost nothing thereafter, and these are rooms people cannot leave, so it should be the quietest part of the house: one reed per bedroom at the lightest level in the home, from a source the occupant can move, cap or take out of the room without asking anybody, plus one per bathroom and one on the landing. A machine up there is justified only by a family area or lounge where people genuinely sit. Two closing points that apply to any three-storey home. Do not try to serve one floor from another. The stairwell carries a weak trace whose direction changes with temperature, air conditioning and open windows, so it cannot be designed around - but because it carries something in some direction most of the time, use one register throughout the whole house so that whatever moves between floors is always the same thing. And the terrace, which houses of this type usually have, cannot hold fragrance at all.
Find the real living floor first
Find the real living floor first. If the ground floor is parking, utility and a store, it takes nothing at all - covered parking cannot hold fragrance, because the air exchanges continuously with the street. The living floor, wherever it actually is: run the closed-door walk on that level, counting the doors between hall, dining and the stair landing. Zero qualifies the SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 - waterless with no tank to fill or empty, coverage up to 1,000 m², Bluetooth app and timer control - a compact hall takes the SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,799, a partly open arrangement takes the SOSA Megh at Rs 3,499 with a 6L tank, and a compartmented living floor qualifies no machine at all. Place it in the body of the hall, several metres from the stair opening, at console or table height and out of the direct throw of an air conditioner. The entrance that matters, which is the door into the living floor rather than the street door: a reed diffuser or the SOSA Boond at Rs 799, permanent rather than scheduled, since arrival into a space people occupy is the only moment anybody perceives their own home. The bedroom floor above, the quietest part of the house: one reed per bedroom at the lightest level in the home from a source the occupant can move, cap or take out of the room without asking anybody, one per bathroom, and one on the landing - Morning Freshness at Rs 749, Garden Bloom at Rs 799, Evening Calm at Rs 799, Fresh Brew at Rs 849, Mountain Breeze at Rs 849, three to four months per bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml. A machine on the bedroom floor only where there is a family area or lounge people genuinely sit in. One register throughout the whole house, since the stairwell carries something in some direction most of the time and two registers meeting produce a third nobody chose. Fragrance for machines: Hotel Collection at Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml, at three to six drops per tank, rinsing between scents; it is not reed diffuser oil. Never scented: children's rooms, the kitchen at any time, the dining area during a meal, utility and store areas, covered parking, and the terrace, which cannot hold fragrance. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards.
| Scent | Why it suits the mood |
|---|---|
| Ground | Often parking, utility and a store. Nothing at all |
| First · ₹1,799 to ₹11,999 | Usually the real living floor. The machine belongs here |
| Second · from ₹749 | Bedrooms. The quietest part of the house |
| The entrance · ₹799 | The door into the living floor, not the street door |
Consistency across three floors is in the consistency chapter, the count is in the three-floor count chapter, and the per-floor question is in the per-floor chapter. Everything gathers in the multi-floor guide.

Versailles
Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.
And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
